ZiG Collapses Totally

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwe’s newly introduced currency, ZiG, is experiencing a dramatic collapse, with its value plummeting at an alarming rate.

This rapid depreciation has caused prices to soar uncontrollably, leading to widespread economic distress across the nation.

On Thursday, political analyst Majaira Jairosi criticized the Harare government for its handling of the currency crisis, labeling the regime’s approach as “totally clueless.” Jairosi remarked, “They repeat the same mistakes & expect different results. This is why it costs kutongwa nemadofo. It comes with a price.”

According to Jairosi, the government’s failure to address systemic issues such as human rights abuses, repression, corruption, and sadism undermines the stability of the currency and the broader economy.

“Human rights abuse, repression, corruption & sadism are contraindications to a strong currency & economic stability.

ZiG mari is collapsing before our eyes,” Jairosi asserted.

The rapid decline in ZiG’s value reflects a deeper economic malaise, exacerbating the financial struggles faced by Zimbabweans and casting doubt on the effectiveness of current economic policies.

Mnangagwa Claims Agricultural Prowess

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has made headlines with his latest assertion of agricultural prowess, boasting about the potential of his Precabe Farm. During a visit to the farm on Thursday, Mnangagwa underscored his commitment to modern farming practices and his belief in their impact on food security.

“The 21st century is driven by technology to achieve maximum yields,” Mnangagwa declared. He emphasized the critical role that soil testing plays in applying the right fertilizers, which he views as essential for optimizing crop production.

Mnangagwa’s remarks were not merely theoretical; he highlighted the impressive output of Precabe Farm as a testament to his farming methods. According to him, “Precabe Farms’ average yield per season can feed the Mozambican capital, Maputo.” This claim underscores his confidence in the farm’s productivity and his broader vision of agricultural success.

By integrating modern technology and strategic soil management, Mnangagwa aims to position himself as a leading figure in contemporary agriculture, not just in Zimbabwe but across the region. His statements reflect a growing trend among leaders to champion agricultural innovation as a pathway to economic and food security.

Curls’ Scent

The park leopard in me here,

 Watching alertly a hare,
She, straightening her
Tangled mopped blonde hair,
Taming with grace fair
Rebellious golden fur.
A flash spell with Mone,
In front of the Nettelbeckplatz fountain,
It’s veins captured our foundation,

Pressed waters  gushed, crushed

On the bronzed piano,

The sound of clapping tongues!

A precursor to days ahead,
I reflected,watched and heard
About her beauty within.
I am certain I know
Those curls are a pleasure,

When high is the moon,

And noone desires to mourn

I desire not a Knight
But play with them at
night.
Wrapped round my fingers

My heart a gentle nervous fevers,
Feeling your original curly scent
Don’t you know
Those curls are a treasure,

High are the premium stakes
A diamond needle in haystack.

As they tickle my soul,
In their Serpentine  intent,
I want to weave not bloat
Your inherited rare blonde
Into wild cute disarray!
Curls and more curls,
A field of windswept
growth.
I want to bury my nostrils
Into the heady perfume
Of your silent sworn
Curly skulled Oath,
And I won’t let anyone
Desecrate those curls again!

Nation Mourns Daniel ChingomaThe Helicopter Man

Zimbabwe is in mourning following the passing of Daniel Chingoma, a multifaceted entrepreneur, musician, and innovator, best known for designing and building the “Zimcopter”, a homemade helicopter that captured the nation’s imagination.

Chingoma’s remarkable story began with his passion for engineering and innovation. As the founding director of Taisek Engineering (PVT) Ltd, he showcased his ingenuity by creating the Zimcopter, a testament to his creativity and determination. However, his achievement was met with resistance from the government, which barred the aircraft from flying.

Beyond his engineering prowess, Chingoma was a talented musician and a visionary leader. In 2010, he ventured into politics, forming the Zimbabwe Industrial and Technological Revolutionary Party (ZITER), with a mission to drive technological advancement and industrial growth in Zimbabwe. His political ambitions culminated in his announcement to contest the 2018 presidential elections.

Govt Fails to Enforce ZiG Currency on Fuel Prices

Govt Fails to Enforce ZiG Currency for Fuel Purchases, Prof. Gift Mugano Highlights Reserve Shortages

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | The govt has announced its inability to enforce the use of the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency at fuel service stations, citing significant challenges. The official statement reveals concerns that enforcing the ZiG currency could lead to fuel shortages and a resurgence of long petrol queues across the country, a scenario that has prompted authorities to reconsider their approach.

Speaking to the National Assembly on Wednesday, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube acknowledged the risks involved in mandating the use of ZiG for fuel purchases. He explained that while Zimbabwe urgently needs to stabilize its currency and secure fuel reserves, the enforcement of ZiG at the pumps could disrupt the already fragile fuel supply chain, potentially plunging the nation into another round of scarcity.

Mthuli Ncube

Prof. Gift Mugano: “Reserves Are Insufficient”

Economist Prof. Gift Mugano has reacted swiftly to the government’s announcement, emphasizing that he had previously warned about the potential pitfalls of the policy. In a statement shared on social media, Mugano questioned the government’s claim of having sufficient reserves, stating: “If there are sufficient reserves, why is GOZ afraid to enforce the use of ZiG at fuel service stations? This means that I was right when I said that the reserves are insufficient!”

Prof. Mugano has argued that without adequate gold and foreign currency reserves, the ZiG currency cannot effectively facilitate fuel purchases or stabilize the economy. He has been vocal in his critique, maintaining that the government’s inability to implement its currency policy reflects deeper economic vulnerabilities, including a lack of gold reserves and limited access to foreign exchange.

Fears of a Fuel Crisis

The government’s reluctance to implement ZiG for fuel sales stems from fears of reigniting a petrol crisis similar to those experienced in recent years. Minister Ncube indicated that the current priority is to maintain fuel availability and stability rather than pushing for a policy that might exacerbate shortages. “We need to be very careful with how we manage our fuel stocks and currency policies,” Ncube noted, adding that further consultation and planning are necessary to avoid unintended consequences.

The Path Ahead

This development has sparked renewed debate over the viability of the ZiG currency and the broader economic strategies of the government. As experts like Prof. Mugano continue to raise alarms over the state of reserves, the public and stakeholders alike are left to wonder what measures the government will take to address the nation’s ongoing economic challenges.

With no clear resolution in sight, the focus now turns to how the government plans to stabilize the fuel supply and manage the fragile currency situation without resorting to policies that could destabilize the economy further. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Zimbabwe can navigate this latest challenge without triggering a broader crisis.

GMB Dumps ZiG, Adopts US Dollar Payments

By James Gwati- The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has officially scrapped all local currency transactions, opting to operate exclusively in US dollars.

In a statement released Friday, the parastatal announced that all payments to farmers will now be made in US dollars.
“GMB will purchase all wheat financed under the Presidential Input Programme (PIP), as well as wheat from self-financed farmers, who will have the option to sell to the GMB or the market, whichever offers the best terms. Additionally, GMB remains the buyer of last resort, and contractors will buy back contracted wheat at market prices,” read the statement.

The board also noted that it will collaborate with the Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange (ZMX) to provide commercial warehouse receipt services to all stakeholders.

The shift to the US dollar by the GMB follows the recent rejection of the Zimbabwean dollar (ZiG) by major retailers across the country.

Last week, numerous large stores began declining ZiG payments, insisting on US dollar transactions for goods and services.

The rapid decline of the ZiG has resulted in a sharp rise in the cost of goods and services, as retailers replaced prices in local currency with those in US dollars.

The scarcity of local currency has further forced the general public to rely increasingly on the US dollar for everyday transactions and savings.

Meanwhile, the black market exchange rate for the ZiG remains volatile, ranging between ZWG24 and ZWG28 to the US dollar.

Basic commodities such as flour and mealie-meal have become scarce in supermarkets, with some retailers removing local currency price tags altogether, reflecting the nation’s growing dependence on the US dollar.

Mnangagwa Is Not Munhumutapa At All, Former Zanu PF Heavyweight Openly Declares

By A Correspondent

In a recent public declaration, former Zanu PF heavyweight Engineer Walter Mzembi has sharply criticized President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his attempt to gain personal prestige by associating himself with the historic title of Munhumutapa.

Mnangagwa is slated to attend the Munhumutapa Day Celebrations at the Great Zimbabwe Ruins this Sunday, an event intended to honor the legacy of the ancient Zimbabwean rulers.

Mzembi’s remarks come as a pointed rebuke to Mnangagwa’s apparent efforts to align himself with the revered title.

In his critique, Mzembi questioned Mnangagwa’s claim to the title, asking rhetorically, “Munhumutapa wange ari muera Shumba here? Ko kungoti Murambwi Day?” which translates to “Was the Munhumutapa of the Shumba totem by any chance? Or should it just be Murambwi Day?”

The Munhumutapa title historically refers to the leaders of the Great Zimbabwean Empire, known for their significant cultural and political influence.

By using this title, Mzembi suggests Mnangagwa is attempting to falsely elevate his status and align himself with a revered historical legacy that he, according to Mzembi, does not genuinely embody.

Mzembi’s comments underscore a broader debate over the authenticity and appropriateness of contemporary political figures appropriating historical titles and symbols for personal or political gain.

His remarks reflect a growing sentiment among some critics who view such actions as a misappropriation of Zimbabwe’s rich historical heritage.

ZiG Crashes At Alarming Pace

Tshabangu Feeds Own Belly At Mnangagwa Farm As Nation Grapples With Hunger

By A Correspondent

Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has sparked controversy by defending his recent visit to Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s farm in Kwekwe.

Amid widespread concerns about food security and hunger in Zimbabwe, Tshabangu’s attendance at a high-profile event hosted by Mnangagwa has drawn criticism from various quarters.

In a statement defending his visit, Tshabangu emphasized the importance of separating politics from other aspects of life.

“I’ve been invited to President Mnangagwa’s farm in Kwekwe to see what he’s doing at his piece of land,” Tshabangu explained.

“As long as it’s something that helps keep Zimbabwe afloat, I’ll attend without failure. Politics must be separated from social life and economics. I’ll have one or two takeaways.”

The event, which included several top government officials, was seen as an opportunity for Mnangagwa to showcase his agricultural ventures.

However, Tshabangu’s attendance comes at a time when Zimbabwe is grappling with severe food shortages and economic challenges. Critics argue that such high-profile engagements might be perceived as insensitive given the prevailing hardships faced by many Zimbabweans.

Despite the backlash, Tshabangu remains firm in his stance that political affiliations should not hinder engagement in beneficial activities.

His comments reflect a broader debate about the role of political leaders and opposition figures in addressing national issues, especially when it comes to balancing personal and public responsibilities.

Gold Mining Underneath Kushinga Secondary School By ZANU PF Councillors

Geological Damage at Kushinga Secondary School: The Impact of Illegal Gold Mining

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Kushinga Secondary School, once a tranquil place of learning, is now at the mercy of illegal gold mining activities that are wreaking havoc on its grounds. The school, which serves as an essential educational institution for its community, is facing severe geological changes as unauthorized excavation threatens its structural integrity.

The Devastating Impact of Gold Mining

Photographs of the school grounds reveal disturbing evidence of these activities. Large stones and mounds of earth are scattered across the landscape, indicating recent and aggressive digging. The terrain shows signs of significant disturbance, with loose soil and rocks displaced from their natural locations. This disruption suggests that parts of the ground have been dug up and refilled hastily, potentially causing subsidence and compromising the stability of the land beneath the school buildings.

Rocks left at the school buildings after overnight gold digging

The mining activities involve digging from underneath the school, a process that threatens to cause severe damage to the foundation. Such actions can result in sinkholes, ground collapses, and other geological hazards that could render parts of the school unusable or even dangerous for students and staff. The irregularities in the ground surface, visible in the photographs, suggest the presence of hidden cavities formed by underground digging, increasing the risk of sudden ground failure.

Digging right at the school building

The Culprits Behind the Destruction

The individuals allegedly responsible for these illegal mining activities are Archford Madzimbamuto, Councillor Marongedza, Councillor Muvirimi, Councillor Chikafu, and ZANU PF Coordinator Masimba Kambunga. It is reported that these individuals have been digging for gold during the night, beginning at 8 PM and ceasing their operations by 3 AM, at which point they attempt to cover up the holes they have created. These actions have not only endangered the physical infrastructure of the school but have also raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of its students and staff.

This building could crash into the earth any time from now

Lack of Accountability and Transparency

At the time of writing, none of the alleged perpetrators had responded to requests for comment regarding their involvement in these activities. The absence of any formal response from these individuals only adds to the gravity of the situation, raising questions about the lack of oversight and the potential complicity of local authorities in allowing such destructive practices to continue unabated.

Urgent Need for Intervention

The situation at Kushinga Secondary School is a stark reminder of the broader challenges posed by illegal mining in many communities. The damage being done to the school grounds is not just a geological concern; it represents a direct threat to education and community development. Immediate intervention is needed from relevant authorities to halt these activities, ensure the safety of the school environment, and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

If left unchecked, the continued mining activities could lead to irreversible damage to the school’s infrastructure, forcing its closure and denying education to the students who depend on it. The community must rally together to protect its school, demand accountability, and secure a safe learning environment for future generations.

Call to Action for Community and Authorities

The community around Kushinga Secondary School, as well as the wider public, must demand immediate action to stop the ongoing illegal mining activities that threaten the school’s existence. This call to action extends to local authorities, government officials, and environmental protection agencies, who must urgently investigate the situation and implement measures to prevent further destruction.

It is crucial for the responsible authorities to step in and secure the school grounds, conduct a thorough geological assessment to evaluate the extent of the damage, and ensure that appropriate restoration measures are taken to stabilize the area. Additionally, there should be a transparent investigation into the actions of the individuals implicated, ensuring they are held accountable for any illegal activities.

Protecting Educational Spaces

Kushinga Secondary School serves as more than just a place of education; it is a pillar of the community, fostering growth, development, and the future of its youth. The encroachment of illegal gold mining on this vital space threatens not only the physical infrastructure of the school but also the fundamental right to a safe and uninterrupted education.

The community, local leaders, and national bodies must work together to defend such institutions from exploitation and ensure that no student or teacher has to fear for their safety due to illegal activities. Only through a collective effort can we safeguard the future of Kushinga Secondary School and other schools facing similar threats across the country.

Moving Forward

The case of Kushinga Secondary School highlights the urgent need for stronger regulations, enforcement, and community vigilance against illegal mining activities that threaten both the environment and critical infrastructure. It serves as a wake-up call to address such issues proactively, to protect not just the natural landscape, but also the institutions that form the backbone of society’s progress.

Without decisive action now, the community risks losing an essential educational facility, while the continued degradation of the land could have far-reaching consequences beyond what is immediately visible. It is time to stand together, demand accountability, and protect the places where our future generations learn, grow, and thrive.-ZimEye

Learnmore Jonasi Leaves Audience in Stitches with Hilarious Stories of Life in the U.S.

By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | New York, NY — Last night, comedian Learnmore Jonasi brought the house down with laughter, sharing his unique and hilarious perspective on American life. The crowd was in tears—not from emotion, but from uncontrollable laughter—as Jonasi poked fun at the absurdities of American portrayals of Africa and the extravagant lifestyles of American pets.

The stage as Jonasi carried the crowd into his talk

Jonasi kicked off his routine by humorously critiquing how Africa is portrayed in American movies. “I watched ‘The Lion King,’ and I found it strange that the lions have American accents,” he joked. “And don’t even get me started on that monkey with a Caribbean accent!” The audience roared with laughter, connecting instantly with Jonasi’s clever observations about Hollywood’s often absurd take on African wildlife.

The humor didn’t stop there. Shifting gears, Jonasi expressed mock envy over the luxurious lives of American dogs. “If African dogs knew how well American dogs live, they might start migrating!” he quipped. He painted a vivid picture of an American dog living it up in a stroller while African dogs might be contemplating their next move. “My dog in Zimbabwe? I don’t even have a picture of him—he’s too busy working for me, like Simon Cowell with his employees!”

The crowd couldn’t get enough of Jonasi’s wit, laughing heartily at his imaginative comparisons. The discussion lightened further with a tale of a Canadian dog named Newton, leaving the audience wondering about the dog’s origins and identity.

Jonasi’s charm wasn’t just in his words. Speaker 5 praised his stylish appearance, particularly his unique jacket designed by his sister. Jonasi quickly capitalized on the moment, joking, “I need to win a million dollars just to pay her back!” The crowd erupted in applause, cementing his place as the night’s comedic star.

As the night closed, it was clear Jonasi had won over the audience and the panel. Speaker 2 noted his flawless delivery, while Speaker 3 and Speaker 4 cheered for him to make it to the finale. With humor that hits home and a style that’s all his own, Learnmore Jonasi is clearly a comedic force to be reckoned with.

America, it seems, might soon be laughing along with him—whether they like it or not.

Zanu PF Women’s League Pushes For Chiwenga Removal

In a dramatic twist within Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu PF Secretary for the Women’s League, Mabel Chinomona, has set her sights on Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s position. The move marks a significant escalation in the party’s internal power struggles.

Reports suggest that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is backing Chinomona’s bid as a strategic maneuver to sideline Chiwenga. The ongoing factional tensions within Zanu PF are increasingly influencing the party’s dynamics, with Mnangagwa seemingly leveraging Chinomona’s ascent as a way to consolidate his own influence and remove a rival.

Chinomona’s intentions became more evident following a notable political event on Wednesday. During a gathering in Chinhoyi, she engaged with party members from Mashonaland West, where she not only reinforced her political presence but also underscored her commitment to women’s empowerment. In a symbolic gesture of support, Chinomona distributed 5,000 road runner chickens to local women, a move intended to bolster her standing within the party and demonstrate her dedication to the ruling party’s social initiatives.

This political gambit highlights the broader factional divisions within Zanu PF and the shifting alliances as key figures maneuver for position. With Mnangagwa’s apparent support, Chinomona’s challenge to Chiwenga could reshape the party’s power structures, setting the stage for a potentially pivotal realignment in Zimbabwean politics.

I Am As Soft As Wool : Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent

In a dramatic turn of events last week, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa issued a stark warning to his political adversaries, revealing the origin of his infamous nickname, “Crocodile.”

Mnangagwa’s remarks, made during an interview with CCTN, underscored his reputation for both patience and precision in the political arena.

“The Crocodile is very patient. But when it strikes, it rarely misses…” Mnangagwa declared. This metaphor, he explained, symbolizes his approach to politics and his commitment to achieving his objectives.

The nickname “Crocodile,” according to Mnangagwa, is not just a moniker but a testament to his strategic acumen and his unyielding determination.

Mnangagwa’s comments come amid ongoing scrutiny of his past, particularly concerning his role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.

Critics, including some former freedom fighters, have questioned his credentials.

They assert that Mnangagwa did not participate in significant wartime actions, such as the bombing of a train, and argue that he was not a member of the Crocodile Gang, a group linked to the liberation struggle.

Despite these challenges, Mnangagwa’s statement seems designed to reinforce his position as a formidable and resilient leader.

His invocation of the crocodile metaphor serves as both a warning to his political foes and a reminder of his enduring influence and tactical prowess.

Government Source Claims Struggling Air Zimbabwe to Resume Harare-London Flights

By A Correspondent

A government source claimed on Wednesday that the troubled Air Zimbabwe would soon resume flights between Harare and London.

Observers are skeptical about this development, given the airline’s ongoing financial difficulties.

According to the source, “Air Zimbabwe is set to re-establish Harare-London flights, with several other international routes also being considered.”

Cameroon Coach Speaks On Stalemate With Warriors

Cameroon national team coach Marc Brys has slammed the Ugandan authorities after his charges played a goalless draw against Zimbabwe in the 2025 Afcon Qualifiers.

The Indomitable Lions failed to score in their second Group J game that was played at Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

The Warriors hosted the encounter on a neutral ground due to the unavailability of approved stadiums in Zimbabwe.

Speaking to the press after the match, Brys expressed his annoyance at the Ugandan authorities after his team failed to hold a training session at the match venue on Monday.

The former African champions were not allowed to use the ground a day before the match, as per norm, because there was a match between Uganda and Congo Brazzaville happening on the same day.

The gaffer said: “It’s not easy after a tough match three days ago, the trip during the night. They refused to let us train. We didn’t train. We stayed there and the players did exercises, but we didn’t do anything tactically.

“We see all that especially in the first half with a lot of fatigue, no finesse to accelerate. It’s normal that we didn’t play well. There are matches like that where you have two possibilities. Secure the point or go for three points.”

The Belgian coach added: “In the second half, it was clear. We weren’t in a good shape in the game. We tried to win this game.

That’s why I’m very happy with my players who continued to try to score the goal to win. But it was clear. There is fatigue in the team and we have to manage that. That’s what justifies changing the four players at the same time, to instill a new drive in the team…

“The conditions are incredibly difficult to work in. We cannot continue like this. It should be a goal for Cameroon to change things.”

Miracle Money 40K Windfall Quick-Rich-Couple Runs Out Of Luck

Miracle Money Windfall Turns Sour for Elderly Couple in Zimbabwe

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe– A couple who miraculously stumbled upon a windfall of USD 40,000 through a banking error has now run out of luck. Frank and Fransisca Netsai Sibanda, both aged 65, found themselves in hot water after exploiting a technical glitch at Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe, leading to a charge of theft involving 47 counts.

Out of luck…Miracle Money elders

The elderly couple’s supposed stroke of fortune began on February 5 when Fransisca Sibanda opened a Silver Banking segment account at Stanbic Bank, allegedly misrepresented by her daughter as an employee of a company named Cominergy Construction Mining Energy. Just two months later, on April 5, a failed transaction triggered a reversal error, causing Steward Bank to credit an erroneous amount of USD 40,850.86 to Fransisca’s account.

Upon discovering the unexpected fortune, the couple reportedly went on a lavish spending spree in both Zimbabwe and South Africa, indulging in upscale markets and high-end food and beverage stores in Sandton, one of Johannesburg’s most affluent suburbs.

However, their luck soon ran dry when Stanbic Bank’s forensic department conducted a routine investigation and uncovered the irregularity. The couple was arrested, and now they face serious legal consequences. Appearing before regional magistrate Mr. Joseph Mabeza, both were remanded out of custody on USD 500 bail each.

Prosecutor Dominic Moyo presented the case, detailing how a transaction failure at a POS machine on April 5 triggered a series of miscalculations that led to the erroneous credit. Rather than reporting the mistake, the Sibandas seized the opportunity for a financial windfall, only to have their luck turn as authorities caught up with their scheme.

Now, the couple’s dream of unexpected riches has been shattered, replaced by the stark reality of 47 counts of theft. They are scheduled to appear in court again on October 14. As their brief flirtation with fortune ends, the Sibandas’ case stands as a reminder that when it comes to ill-gotten gains, luck can run out as quickly as it arrives.- Ziana

Chinomona Targets Chiwenga Post?

Shops Phase Out ZiG Pricing Regime

By Business Reporter- All big shops nationwide are declining ZiG transactions and want US dollar payments for their goods and services.

The collapse of the ZiG has led to a sharp rise in the cost of goods and services, with retailers responding by replacing price tags in ZiG with those in US dollars.

A shortage of the local currency has also forced the general public to increasingly rely on the US dollar for transactions and as a store of value.

The black market exchange rate remains high, fluctuating between ZWG24 and ZWG28 to the US dollar.

Basic commodities such as flour and mealie-meal have become scarce in supermarkets, and some retailers with these goods have removed price tags in the local currency altogether, further signalling a shift away from the troubled ZiG.

Mixed Sentiments Surround Young ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera’s Capacity

By A Correspondent

Young ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera’s tenure has sparked a debate regarding her effectiveness in leading the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. As a member of Zanu PF, opinions on her ability to drive meaningful change are sharply divided.

Critics argue that Mavetera’s affiliation with Zanu PF undermines her potential to succeed.

Isaac Phiri, a notable voice in this discourse, expressed his skepticism by likening the party to “a potholed road” that, regardless of the quality of the vehicle—symbolizing Mavetera’s capabilities—will inevitably lead to failure.

Phiri contends, “Zanu PF is a potholed road; no matter how new the car is, within a few months it is to be written off road.”

On the other hand, supporters emphasize Mavetera’s youthful energy and competence. Dumisani Mbasera, for instance, praises her with optimism, stating, “She is young and energetic; she knows what she is doing.”

This sentiment reflects a belief in her capability to bring fresh perspectives and drive progress.

Additionally, there is a sense of achievement in specific technological advancements under her stewardship.

Larzy Gora Charms highlighted the success of the Starlink initiative, noting that it “akapedza masports” (has accomplished great things), suggesting a positive impact on the sector.

However, not everyone is convinced of her effectiveness. Lloyd Makahamadze’s sharp critique, where he shouted “Clueless,” underscores a significant portion of the population that remains doubtful about her leadership skills.

In conclusion, Tatenda Mavetera’s role as ICT Minister is a topic of significant debate.

While some recognize her potential and recent successes, others remain critical of her affiliation with Zanu PF and question her overall competence.

As her tenure progresses, the impact of her leadership will likely continue to be a point of contention among stakeholders.

Will Tatenda Mavetera Steer ICT Ministry to Great Heights?

By A Correspondent

Tatenda Mavetera, Zimbabwe’s youthful Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), is embarking on a mission to elevate the country’s digital landscape. In her recent address, Mavetera emphasized a collaborative approach, pledging to work with all key stakeholders to advance her ministry’s vision.

Mavetera, who is also a Member of Parliament for the Zanu PF party, highlighted her commitment to engaging with the public. On Wednesday, she stated, “Today, my team and I are dedicating time to read and reflect on your comments and feedback.

Your insights are invaluable as we strive to improve our services and initiatives in the ICT sector.”

Her message underscores a strong focus on community involvement, as she invited citizens to contribute their thoughts on enhancing digital access, fostering innovation, and supporting local communities. “We invite you to share your thoughts on how we can enhance digital access, promote innovation, and support our communities.

What are your expectations from the Ministry of ICT? Your voice matters, and together we can shape a brighter digital future!” Mavetera said.

Despite her enthusiasm, Mavetera faces skepticism regarding her political background.

Critics argue that her affiliation with the Zanu PF party may impact her effectiveness and the ministry’s ability to achieve its objectives. Nonetheless, Mavetera’s proactive engagement strategy and dedication to soliciting public feedback suggest she is keen on making a significant impact.

As the ICT Ministry navigates this new chapter, all eyes will be on how effectively Mavetera balances her political role with her commitment to driving digital transformation in Zimbabwe.

ZANU PF Shuts Down Mbuya Nehanda Children’s Home Auxillia Watching

For years, I have struggled to get answers about a troubling issue. There was an orphanage called Mbuya Nehanda Children’s Home in Melfort, about 40 kilometers from Harare along the Harare-Mutare road. I heard it was closed in 2012 when the ZANU PF Women’s League claimed it as their property, stating they wanted to use it for their own projects. The place has since been rented out to Wilmar College.

But does anyone know what happened to the children who were living at that orphanage? Some of them ended up back on the streets, while others are currently staying at a farm called Citra Pottery, under the care of a Good Samaritan named Mr. Matanga. These children lack decent accommodation and adequate food. For them to attend school, Mr. Matanga has to request places at nearby schools like Melfort High, Rusununguko High, and Chiweshe Primary. While these schools understand the children’s difficult situation, there are still issues with obtaining basic needs like stationery, uniforms, and exam fees.

I have another question: is it true that Mbuya Nehanda Children’s Home belonged to the ZANU PF Women’s League? If so, what happened to the children’s belongings, such as cars, beds, chairs, desks, water tanks, and other movable assets?

What is the government doing to help these children? Does the First Lady, who is known for her philanthropic work, know about this situation? I grew up at that center myself, and back then, Mrs. Mugabe would often visit us, providing food, blankets, and school fees. Yet, I was surprised to hear that she was involved in renting out the place to Wilmar College — though I am not certain if that is true.

Parliamentary Committee Criticizes Mthuli Ncube’s New Fuel Transit Tax

By A Correspondent| The Parliamentary Committee on Budget has criticized Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube for implementing a new tax on fuel in transit, arguing that the policy’s disadvantages outweigh its intended benefits.

During his Mid-Term Budget Review, Ncube introduced a tax on fuel imported under the Removal in Transit (RIT) system, claiming that the funds would be reimbursed at the Port of Exit. This measure was introduced to combat transit fraud, where goods declared as transit consignments are offloaded in Zimbabwe instead of being transported to their final destinations.

However, in an analysis of the 2024 Mid-Term Budget Review, the Committee expressed concerns over the policy, describing it as overly burdensome with limited benefits.

“The committee is of the view that the payment of duty and reimbursement at the exit point will not adequately address transit fraud since transporters can offload fuel and reload with a different liquid. If ZIMRA is constrained to detect such malpractices, payment of duty and reimbursement will not address the existing challenge,” the Committee stated. They further noted that the issue would persist and that the policy undermines the ease of doing business for legitimate transit consignments, which will need additional operational funds to meet the duty obligations.

The Committee also highlighted the administrative challenges faced by ZIMRA in managing revenue that is not available for public spending, deeming the process unnecessary.

“Moreover, ZIMRA’s financial transactions are not always free of charge. This policy contradicts the Presidential mantra that ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ and will negatively impact business operations through Zimbabwe. This could lead to retaliatory measures from other countries,” the Committee added. They warned that economic agents might opt for alternative routes through other countries to avoid excessive costs and burdens.

Additionally, the Committee argued that the policy violates regional trade agreements, specifically Articles 3 and 4 of the SADC Protocol on Trade, which mandate the elimination of tariff and non-tariff barriers and the removal of import duties.

“It is the Committee’s view that ZIMRA should strengthen its administrative efforts to curb transit fraud rather than plug its administrative gaps with a flawed policy. Alternatively, requiring a commitment from clearing agents to pay duty if goods do not reach the exit point could help mitigate transit fraud,” the Committee concluded.

Korea Contributes US$1 Million To WFP’s Drought Response In Zimbabwe

HARARE – The Word Food Programme (WFP) today welcomed a contribution of US$1 million from the Republic of Korea to meet the nutrition needs of 22,000 people adversely impacted by the El Niño-induced drought, which has exacerbated food insecurity across Zimbabwe.

An estimated 5.9 million people living in rural Zimbabwe and 1.7 million in urban areas are expected to face food insecurity during the lean season, the period between household food depletion and the next harvest, expected between January and March 2025.

“Korea shares the concern on the recent food insecurity due to drought in Zimbabwe,” said H.E. PARK Jae Kyung, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Zimbabwe. “We recognise the hardships faced by the people of Zimbabwe brought about by El Niño and the importance of swift and effective assistance to the people in need to ensure no one is left behind. Our contribution reaffirms our ongoing partnership with the Government of Zimbabwe and WFP in building food security and resilience for vulnerable communities.”

Through WFP’s Lean Season Assistance (LSA) programme, which compliments the government of Zimbabwe’s Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy, the timely contribution will significantly bolster WFP’s efforts to alleviate hunger by providing targeted support to the most affected households during this critical period.

“In the face of this enormous challenge, the Republic of Korea has demonstrated its commitment to helping Zimbabwe during difficult times,” said Billy Mwiinga, WFP Deputy Country Director in Zimbabwe.

“The contribution will help WFP reach the most vulnerable individuals, ensuring they have the essential food and nutritional support needed to survive the lean season. This is not just about providing food assistance it’s about guaranteeing dignity and hope during a time of immense hardship.”

The Minister of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare, Honourable July Moyo, acknowledged the importance of partnerships in responding to the country’s growing food insecurity challenges.

“As the Government of Zimbabwe, guided by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind, we are working to make sure no one goes hungry,” he said,

“This generous contribution from the Republic of Korea comes at a critical time and will substantially enhance our capacity to provide essential support to those most affected by the El Nino induced drought, helping us to build a more resilient and food-secure future for all Zimbabweans.”

As Zimbabwe continues to experience the effects of climate variability, WFP remains committed to supporting the Government’s response to food insecurity through both emergency assistance and long-term resilience-building initiatives.

Zimpapers Slashes Journalists’ Salary By 50%

Zimpapers CEO Pikirayi Deketeke Faces Backlash Over Salary Cuts and Allegations Amidst Management Controversy.

By Shelton Muchena | In a shocking move that has sent ripples through the media landscape, Pikirayi Deketeke, the CEO of Zimpapers, has announced significant salary cuts for journalists, reducing their pay from 50% to 40% hard currency, with plans for further reductions to 35%. This decision has sparked outrage among the staff, who are already grappling with the challenges of working in an industry that has faced numerous financial constraints.

The rationale behind Deketeke’s decision has raised eyebrows and ignited fervent discussions among employees. Insiders allege that the drastic cuts are intended to fund new luxury vehicles for top management, as well as to secure an exit package for Deketeke himself, who is rumoured to be on the brink of dismissal. Whispers of his imminent departure have fueled speculation that the salary reductions are merely a desperate attempt to bolster his position before a potential firing.

The discontent among journalists has been palpable, with many voicing their frustration at the perceived lack of respect from Deketeke. “We are the backbone of this organization, yet we are treated as expendable,” one journalist lamented. “His actions show a complete disregard for our contributions and well-being.”

Further compounding the controversy surrounding Deketeke are a series of serious allegations that have been levied against him in recent months. Reports have emerged of sexual harassment complaints filed by female employees, painting a troubling picture of a toxic workplace environment. Sources within Zimpapers claim that these allegations have been brushed aside, creating a culture of fear among staff who feel they have no recourse for their grievances.

Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding tender processes within the organization, with allegations of irregularities and favouritism surfacing. It is widely believed that Deketeke has been involved in awarding contracts to companies in which he has personal interests, further compromising the integrity of Zimpapers and its operations.

As the situation unfolds, the call for accountability has grown louder. Journalists and activists have banded together, demanding an investigation into Deketeke’s leadership and the ethical practices at Zimpapers. “We will not stand by while our rights are trampled upon and our voices silenced,” declared a representative from the union representing journalists.

The mounting pressure on Deketeke is becoming increasingly untenable as employees rally together, advocating for their rights and demanding a return to fair wages and respect in the workplace. The future of Zimpapers hangs in the balance, with the potential for significant changes in leadership and a reassessment of corporate culture.

As the public and employees alike keep a close eye on developments, it remains to be seen whether Pikirayi Deketeke will face the consequences of his actions or if the status quo will prevail. The unfolding drama at Zimpapers serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ethical leadership and the need for transparency and respect within the media industry.

Harare Councillor Acquitted Of Election Related Charges

By A Correspondent| Harare Magistrate Apollonia Marutya has acquitted Harare Ward 41 Councillor Kudzai Kadzombe, who had been on trial, answering to two charges allegedly committed during the 2023 general elections.

Councillor Kadzombe, who was represented by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa, Kelvin Kabaya and Jeremiah Bamu of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, had been on trial after she was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers on 14 September 2023 and charged with assault as defined in section 89 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and obstruction of voter as defined in section 149 of the Electoral Act.

During trial at Harare Magistrates Court, prosecutors alleged that Councillor Kadzombe assaulted Saeed Musaengana, a resident and a voter, at Civic Centre area in Marlborough suburb in Harare West constituency on 23 August 2023, while he was walking on a path on his way to a polling station intending to cast his vote.

On the charge of obstruction of voter, prosecutors claimed that Councillor Kadzombe unlawfully and wilfully obstructed Musaengana, while he was on his way to a polling station, by holding him with his hands placed on his neck and grabbing the back of his neck.

But on 5 September 2024 and after standing a full trial, Magistrate Marutya found Councillor Kadzombe not guilty of committing any offence and acquitted her of the assault and the obstruction of voter charges.

Did Kamala Harris Wear Assistive Earphones During Debate with Donald Trump?

Investigative Report: No Evidence Kamala Harris Wore Assistive Earphones During Debate with Donald Trump

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | A series of viral social media posts have baselessly claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris wore earrings containing audio devices to cheat during her debate with former President Donald Trump on September 10 in Philadelphia. However, there is no evidence to support these allegations, which echo similar unfounded claims made against Trump’s previous political opponents.

Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during a presidential debate with Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Sept. 10, 2024. (AP)

Background of the Claims

The controversy began when a Sept. 10 Instagram post, which received more than 39,000 likes, alleged, “The earphone earring that Kamala was apparently wearing was created in early 2023.” The post included an image suggesting Harris wore “Nova H1 audio earrings.” Another post declared: “BUSTED! SHE’S WEARING EARPHONE EARRINGS,” featuring photos of Harris’ pearl earrings next to an image of Nova H1 audio earrings. These accusations, however, are not supported by any credible evidence.

Debunking the Claims with Facts

In fact, multiple reputable sources have countered these claims with evidence proving them false:

  1. Community Response on Social Media: On the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), a community note attached to one of the posts clarified, “Rumors are unfounded, Harris wore earrings by Tiffany & Co. that she has worn many times before,” not Nova H1 audio earrings. This crowdsourced note provides direct rebuttal from the online community itself, identifying the earrings as being part of the Tiffany HardWear collection.
  2. Fashion Analysis by “What Kamala Wore”: Susan E. Kelley, founder of the blog “What Kamala Wore,” which covers Harris’ fashion and style choices, wrote on September 11 that Harris wore her “South Sea Pearl Earrings from the Tiffany HardWear collection” during the debate. The article includes photos of the earrings Harris wore, which have an open setting below the pearls, distinctively different from the Nova H1 audio earrings seen on the company’s website. Kelley stated, “There was a bizarre narrative being pushed last night claiming the Vice President wore earrings with an audio receiver. I am comfortable stating that was clearly not the case; these are the same Tiffany earrings she has worn for months.”
  3. No Evidence of Assistive Devices: The Harris campaign did not provide an official comment on the specific allegations regarding audio-equipped earrings, but previous investigations into similar claims against other political figures have consistently found no evidence of any hidden listening devices. For instance, in 2016, PolitiFact debunked claims that Hillary Clinton wore an earpiece during her debates, and in 2020, similar accusations against Joe Biden were dismissed after closer scrutiny revealed no such device.

Repetition of Unfounded Conspiracy Theories

Claims that political candidates are secretly using assistive audio devices have become a recurring theme in U.S. elections. The New York Times has reported on “The Long History of ‘Hidden Earpiece’ Conspiracy Theories,” noting that such unfounded allegations date back at least to 2000, when Rush Limbaugh claimed Democratic nominee Al Gore used an earpiece for coaching during a television appearance.

PolitiFact, a fact-checking organization, has labeled the current claim against Harris as “Pants on Fire!”—a term used to signify a claim that is blatantly false. Caryn Baird, a PolitiFact researcher, reiterated that there is “no evidence whatsoever” to support the idea that Harris wore any kind of audio device during the debate.

Conclusion: No Basis for the Claims

All available evidence indicates that the claims about Kamala Harris wearing assistive earphones during her debate with Donald Trump are entirely without foundation. Harris wore her familiar Tiffany & Co. pearl earrings, not the Nova H1 audio earrings alleged in viral social media posts. These rumors follow a long pattern of similar unfounded claims that have targeted various candidates in past elections.

Until verifiable evidence is presented, these allegations remain baseless, and social media users are encouraged to scrutinize such claims critically.

Robbers Attack Popular DJ

Renowned Thobela FM radio presenter, Skhumbuzo Mbatha, was robbed of his valuables at gunpoint by unknown suspects on Sunday night, September 8. The incident occurred around 22:30 on the N17 ramp into N1 in Johannesburg, Gauteng.

In a detailed social media post, Mbatha recounted the harrowing experience, stating that two individuals, speaking in an “overtly foreign language,” pointed a gun at him and searched him for approximately 10 minutes. The robbers made off with his two phones and other valuables.

Mbatha, who co-hosts Ntshirogele and plays Mpho Manaka on Skeem Saam, expressed that he is still shaken by the ordeal. “I am not fine, I had guns pointed at me for a good 10 minutes,” he said. The robbers forced him to walk towards an old mine dump, where they thoroughly robbed him, before instructing him to drive away on his bike without looking back.

The incident has left Mbatha traumatized, and he is still coming to terms with the experience.

ZRP Speaks On Nyanga Violent Assault

Three women from Nyanga, who were captured on camera brutally assaulting a fellow woman, have been released on remand after appearing in court on Tuesday. The trio was arrested on Monday following a viral social media video of the assault.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Deputy Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Blessmore Chishaka, confirmed the arrest, stating, “We noted the public’s concerns over the video and confirm that the incident occurred in Nyanga. The three women have been arrested, appeared in court, and the matter is being addressed.”

The video shows an unidentified woman accusing the victim of cheating with her husband, “Baba Oliver.” Despite the victim’s attempts to defend herself, the woman, joined by two others, violently assaulted her.

This incident comes after six teenagers were arrested and convicted in July for assaulting a female colleague in Hwedza.

Mnangagwa Under Pressure To Release Jailed Schoolgirl

By A Correspondent

The opposition party Zim People First has issued a strong call for the immediate release of Nicole Chabata, a schoolgirl detained since June 16. Chabata, one of the Avondale 78, was arrested by the regime for allegedly conspiring to disrupt the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit in August.

Stephen Mazanza, the national chairman of Zim People First, has expressed profound frustration and urgency regarding Chabata’s prolonged detention.

Reflecting his deep concern as both a political leader and a father, Mazanza stated:

“As Zim People First National Chairman, who is also a father, I cannot sit and watch the regime use and abuse power to this level. This is now too much, and we have no option but to take things into our own hands.

If Nicole is not released as soon as possible, we are going to shut down schools and take to the streets. If that doesn’t work, we will do what they did before—we will fight for our independence.

We know we have friends in South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, and Mozambique who have done it before. We can do it too and liberate ourselves from our own fathers and mothers who don’t care about our lives or futures enough. Enough is enough; one day is one day, and one day is now.”

Mazanza’s statement underscores the party’s intense dissatisfaction with the current regime’s handling of the situation. He further criticized the authorities for their lack of compassion, declaring:

“How can they hold a minor from June 16 to now and have peaceful nights?

They have no shame. What I am telling them, without any fear, is that we have the joker card—or in chess, the checkmate power play.

If we go into the streets and they kill or harm anyone, it’s game over. Everything is reset.

Tozvitangidza. I am furious and not happy at all.”

Adding to the tension, Zim People First has threatened to mobilize young people to stage widespread protests in response to Chabata’s ongoing detention.

This move reflects a growing frustration with the regime’s policies and treatment of young detainees, signaling potential civil unrest if their demands are not met.

Furore As University Evicts Mashava Mine Residents…

By A Correspondent

Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) is in the process of evicting residents from Chemberi, a neighborhood in Mashava, where the university’s campus hostels are located.

The eviction is part of the university’s plan to expand its hostel facilities.

However, the move has sparked significant controversy, as many of these residents are still awaiting compensation from their former employer, Shabanie-Mashava Mines (SMM) Holdings.

Shabanie-Mashava Mines, which ceased operations several years ago, had allowed these residents to remain in the houses as compensation for their unpaid salaries.

The agreement was intended to provide some form of restitution for the delayed wages, with a promise to settle these debts in the future.

In December 2012, SMM leased its Mashava properties, including those in Chemberi, to Great Zimbabwe University.

The eviction notices have left many residents in distress. “We have been living here for years with the understanding that it was part of our compensation for the unpaid salaries,” said Thandeka Ncube, a resident of Chemberi.

“Now, we are being told to leave without any resolution to our financial issues with SMM.”

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration over the situation: “We were promised that the properties we live in were our compensation.

Now the university is expanding, and we are being forced out without any alternative arrangements or support. It’s deeply unfair.”

Great Zimbabwe University is yet to unveil plans to support the displaced residents.

Mnangagwa Hijacks Munhumutapa Day

By A Correspondent

Recent speculation has emerged suggesting that Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa plans to perform secret rituals at the historic Great Zimbabwe ruins.

According to a source within the government, Mnangagwa aims to use the rituals to strengthen his grip on power.

The source claims, “Mnangagwa’s engagement with the Great Zimbabwe monuments is intended to enhance his political authority.”

Adding to the intrigue, Mnangagwa has adopted the title “Munhumutapa,” a designation historically associated with powerful traditional leaders in Zimbabwe.

This move has been interpreted by some as an effort to align himself with the revered heritage of the ancient rulers of the region.

However, Zanu PF Youth League official Taurai Kandishaya has contested these claims, asserting that the event is primarily a celebration of Munhumutapa Day.

Kandishaya stated, “Comrades and Friends in and around Zimbabwe, you are cordially invited to the Munhumutapa Day 2024.

You will be privileged to see the magnificent GREAT ZIMBABWE walls that were built long ago, listen to youths related speech by the SADC Chairperson and President of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Stone upon Stone Great Zimbabwe ruins were Erected. Be there, join us.”

The ceremony, according to Kandishaya, is intended to honor the cultural significance of the Great Zimbabwe ruins and promote unity among the youth.

The conflicting narratives about Mnangagwa’s intentions reflect broader debates about the role of traditional symbols and ceremonies in contemporary Zimbabwean politics.

Facilitate Release of Jailed Schoolgirl, Mzembi Challenges Auxillia Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent

Former Zanu PF heavyweight Engineer Walter Mzembi has urgently called upon SADC and First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa to secure the release of Nicole Chabata, a schoolgirl currently imprisoned.

Nicole is among the Avondale 78 who were detained by the regime for allegedly planning to disrupt the SADC Summit.

Mzembi stated:

“SADC Presidents attended the 44th Summit but left Nicole Chabata, a minor, incarcerated in the notorious Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.

Despite subsequent meetings, including President Mnangagwa’s recent appearance at the FOCAC meeting in China, there has been no follow-up on whether Nicole was released in time for her O-Level exams, or on the status of other detainees.

Ironically, this detention occurred on June 16, the Day of the African Child, which commemorates the brutal killing of students in Soweto by the Apartheid regime.

Among the Presidents was Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu, a maternal figure in this predominantly male group, who should be inquiring about this girl’s situation.

Many leaders, including President Masisi, who was reportedly ‘flabbergasted’ by Zimbabwe’s Precabe Farm, neglected to speak up for Nicole.

Our founding SADC Fathers, who had firsthand experience with imprisonment, would have likely demanded a prison tour, given their own histories, such as Nelson Mandela, who spent 27 years in prison.

Cyril Ramaphosa is perhaps preoccupied with balancing his ‘historical’ GNU and is unlikely to be concerned about a girl left in such dire conditions.

President Mnangagwa, having served 10 years in prison himself, is familiar with the harsh effects of incarceration.

His own experience has made him known for being ‘unforgiving,’ a trait linked to his own imprisonment as a minor.

So, where is the empathy and brotherhood in SADC? Nicole deserves to have her childhood restored, stolen by the prison system and those who should know better.

Maiguru (First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa), where do you stand? I heard you speak thoughtfully to a London reporter last night—please advocate for this girl.

Thank you.”

Melissa Mawadzi Scams Jobseeker of £2,000 for Fake COS Papers

By A Correspondent | The UK based Melissa Mawadzi has struck again, this time scamming a female jobseeker out of £2,000 in exchange for fake Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) papers. This latest incident comes right on the heels of her husband Dennis Mawadzi being exposed by Sky News for his involvement in multiple such scamming activities.

Melissa Mawadzi

Melissa took advantage of the victim through neighbour referrals, promising to provide the necessary COS papers required for employment in the UK. Three months later, the victim has not received a single document. When questioned, Melissa responded with threats to sue for defamation, rather than addressing the missing papers. She was still to comment at the time of writing.

The businesswoman’s behaviour suggests that all this while this is what she has been doing since 2022, regularly waiting for the next victim to pounce on.

The cases covered by ZimEye, have a similar pattern of behaviour.

Are You Also a Victim?

If you or someone you know has fallen victim to the fraudulent activities of Melissa or Dennis Mawadzi, you are urged to contact the authorities or reach out to ZimEye news network to share your story and seek justice.

Ras Pompy Beds Own Friend’s Mother?

Ras Pompy Sparks Controversy by Dating Friend’s Mother, Social Media Erupts

By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | Ras Pompy, whose real name is Nyasha Reginald Mano, is at the center of a heated controversy following allegations that he has been romantically involved with the mother of one of his close friends. Born in Mbare into a family of three, with Ras Pompy as the last born, the popular figure is now facing the consequences of a relationship that has effectively turned his unnamed friend into his stepson. The report by H-Metro has triggered a flood of reactions online.

The dramatic headline, “Ras Pompy Beds Friend’s Mother,” has led to a frenzy of comments from the public, with opinions ranging from outrage and disbelief to humor and support.

Public Reactions: Outrage, Humor, and Debate

On the H-Metro platform, Stewart Nyamukondiwa was quick to add a humorous spin to the development, stating, “So the best friend becomes stepson… what an upgrade to the friendship!” His comment, accompanied by laughing and hammer emojis, captures the bizarre nature of the situation that many find both bewildering and amusing.

However, not all reactions were lighthearted. Ani Tah placed the blame squarely on the unnamed mother, writing, “I blame mother yacho Ras haana mhosva hahaha hushamwari kutopera kaauku,” suggesting that the mother should have known better than to engage in such a relationship, effectively ending friendships in the process.

Meanwhile, Herry Hedza Matebwe added a spiritual angle to the discourse, cryptically commenting, “ToBeliever kunaMost High Kwete Devil… Hatichabatik tasetta Level.. Rega tivaudze Edelino,” which translates to a reflection on morality and spiritual beliefs, implying deeper consequences of the unfolding drama.

Others, like JEYI, found an opportunity for motivation amid the chaos, commenting, “Every family has that 1 person who breaks the circle of financial struggles for the entire family. If you are reading this, may you be the person.” This comment seemed to transform the scandal into an inspiring message, albeit in a context that some might find inappropriate.

Criticism of Media Coverage

Not everyone is amused or interested in the affair. Tatenda Gwati questioned the newsworthiness of the story, asking, “School me here, what kind of news is this. Is it helpful to post such kind of news to the nation?” Gwati’s comment reflects a segment of the public that feels media should focus on more substantive content rather than personal scandals.

A Story Far From Over

As the online community continues to debate the morality, implications, and appropriateness of this new family arrangement, it is clear that Ras Pompy’s alleged affair with his friend’s mother has sparked conversations that go beyond mere gossip, touching on themes of loyalty, friendship, and family dynamics.

Born Nyasha Reginald Mano in Mbare in a family of three, Ras Pompy is the last born and now finds himself in the midst of a media storm. Stay tuned as this story develops and more reactions come to light. For now, all eyes remain on what will happen next in this unexpected drama.

Tribalist Mnangagwa Cops Bash Ndebele Villagers, Force Them To Sing Shona Chimurenga Songs

By Political Reporter— Overzealous Shona police officers in Nkayi, Matabeleland North province, are facing serious backlash for violently assaulting 11 Ndebele villagers, forcing them to march and chant Chimurenga war songs in Shona, a clear act of humiliation and intimidation.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has taken up the case, condemning the officers’ actions as a “brutal crackdown” and demanding immediate justice.

In a post on X, ZLHR stated that the villagers were subjected to senseless violence under the pretence of investigating diesel theft.

“The Nkayi villagers have called on the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to act swiftly against the rogue officers who brutally beat them and forced them to sing liberation songs in Shona,” the ZLHR post read.

Lawyers Jabulani Mhlanga and Prisca Dube, representing the villagers, lodged an official complaint with the Officer-in-Charge at Manoti Police Station, decrying the officers’ actions. They reported that violent raids were carried out across three homesteads belonging to the Sibanda, Ncube, and Lunga families, with officers claiming to be investigating diesel theft from a local businessman, Oscar Mawarire.

According to the lawyers, the officers—armed with rifles, truncheons, and whips—unlawfully assaulted villagers, including a minor, without provocation. They forced the villagers to sing Chimurenga songs in Shona and then beat them for not singing “correctly.”
Mhlanga and Dube also revealed that the officers conducted warrantless searches, seizing tools and falsely accusing the villagers of being involved in criminal activities. Despite Mawarire informing the police that the villagers were not suspects, seven were arrested and taken to a police post at Kana Mission.
The arrested villagers were denied basic rights—they were not allowed to wear shoes or warm clothing, were not informed of their rights, and endured further abuse at the police post, forced to sleep on concrete floors without blankets or access to ablution facilities. Handcuffed together, they endured racist slurs and were told they were being made an example of to prevent “Ndebele thieves” from encroaching on “Shona territory.”
After days of suffering, the villagers were released on July 15 after paying US$30 each, but no receipts were issued, nor were they given medical forms to seek treatment at government facilities. They eventually sought medical care privately before approaching ZLHR for help.
In an August 1 letter to the Officer-in-Charge at Manoti Police Station, Mhlanga and Dube demanded a full investigation into the abuses, condemning the violation of the villagers’ rights to liberty, dignity, protection from inhumane treatment, and equality under Zimbabwe’s Constitution. They insist that the responsible officers be prosecuted.
The incident has sparked outrage, with some likening it to the Gukurahundi atrocities. “Is this tribalism another operation against yet another generation of dissidents?” one villager remarked. Another villager, Mbiko KaMadlenya, who endured similar abuse during Gukurahundi in 1985, said, “I was forced to sing Shona songs and beaten for being Ndebele. It’s shocking that it’s happening again in 2024.”
The echoes of past violence are stirring deep wounds, as Matabeleland refuses to stay silent.

Starlink Humbles Econet, TelOne

By Technology Reporter- Starlink has brought local traditional internet providers who have been arrogant and ripping off Zimbabweans for decades.

The SpaceX network provider has humbled these local network companies by introducing a game-changing $30 home internet service in Zimbabwe, dubbed the “Residential Lite” unlimited internet package.

Offering speed of up to 100Mbps, this package promises to revolutionise home internet accessibility in the country.

Residential Lite is priced similarly to the Starlink Mini at $30 per month for unlimited data, but with one key advantage: it’s available for subscribers using the Standard kit.

This accessibility further disrupts the market, placing pressure on local telecom giants Econet and NetOne, as Starlink’sglobal reach and affordability make it a competitive alternative.

While both the Lite and Mini packages offer unlimited internet, there’s a critical distinction.

Lite subscribers, like Mini users, are deprioritised during network congestion, meaning they don’t receive priority over Residential Standard customers.

Despite this, the $30 price point for truly global internet access could make Starlink the go-to option for households across Zimbabwe.

This latest move by Starlink is set to shift the digital landscape, offering a faster, cheaper, and more accessible option for home users.

Setting Up Starlink: Simplicity Redefined

From the moment you set up Starlink, the dish begins scanning the sky to connect with satellites and detect any obstructions.

This process typically takes just a few minutes and ensures that your connection is optimised for peak performance.

The Starlink app adds another layer of convenience, helping users identify obstructions like trees or buildings and allowing them to adjust the dish for the best signal.

With its launch in Zimbabwe, and within one week now, Starlink has already thrown the country’s digital market into a frenzy, leaving traditional providers ( Econet and NetOne) scrambling to adapt.

The satellite-based internet provider’s cutting-edge technology and affordable packages are forcing local competitors to reconsider their strategies to keep pace with the innovation.

Zimbabwe is now the 14th African nation to welcome Starlink, joining the ranks of Botswana, South Sudan, and Sierra Leone.

Starlink’s entry into the market promises to revolutionise internet access for Zimbabweans, providing a variety of options that make reliable internet more accessible.

Affordable, Portable, and Fast: Starlink’s Game-Changing Tech

Subscribers have the option to purchase a standard dish and router for $350 (R6,248), while a portable Mini dish with a built-in router is available for just $200 (R3,570), a stark contrast to the $599 (R10,693) cost in the U.S.

What sets Starlink apart is its portability.

Devices can be used while on the move, even at speeds of over 100 km/h, making high-speed internet available anywhere in the country.

Shipping to Harare is a modest $23 (R410), and the residential subscription comes in at $50 per month (about R893), which is on par with rates in neighboring countries.

Key Features Driving Starlink’s Success:

  • Compact enough to fit on a car dashboard.
  • Delivers world-class speeds of up to 100 Mbps, even in remote areas.
  • Revolutionises industries like innovation, agriculture, education, and development.

As Starlink continues to capture the imagination of Zimbabweans, Econet and NetOne are feeling the pressure, signalingthe dawn of a new era in the country’s digital transformation.

Will local providers rise to the challenge, or will Starlink lead the way to the future of internet access in Zimbabwe? Only time will tell.

They Could Even Poison Selmor Mtukudzi

Concerns Mount Over Selmor’s Safety Amid Fears of Possible Poisoning at Upcoming Oliver Mtukudzi Festival

By Shelton Muchena | ZimEye | As tensions escalate ahead of the Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival in South Africa, fears have emerged that Selmor Mtukudzi, daughter of the late musical icon, could be at risk of poisoning by jealous individuals at the event. This alarming concern follows a public family feud in which Selmor was initially excluded from the festival by her stepmother, Daisy Mtukudzi, raising eyebrows and triggering widespread speculation over possible malicious intentions.

Selmor Mtukudzi

Daisy Mtukudzi’s decision to leave Selmor off the guest list sparked a wave of public outrage. Fans and musicians alike questioned the motivations behind the move, interpreting it as a personal attack that further fractured the already tense family dynamics. After several days of social media campaigns calling for Selmor’s inclusion, Daisy eventually reversed her decision, reinstating her stepdaughter as a performer at the festival.

Daisy Mtukudzi’s Statement (After Reversing Her Decision) was: “After reflecting on the feedback and understanding the deep emotional ties that the festival represents, I have decided to reinstate Selmor as one of the featured artists. Our family may have disputes, but our love for music and my husband’s legacy must prevail.”

However, despite this resolution, concerns have now shifted to Selmor’s safety. Friends and associates fear that the public fallout with Daisy could make her a target of jealous or ill-intentioned individuals at the event. The possibility of poisoning—a common method of eliminating rivals throughout history—has surfaced as a particularly disturbing threat.

Historically, jealousy and rivalry have often led to acts of poisoning at high-profile events. Several notable cases highlight the danger faced by public figures in similar situations:

  1. Alexander Litvinenko (2006) – The former Russian spy was poisoned with radioactive polonium-210 during a meeting in London. While political motives were largely suspected, personal vendettas were also considered in the mix of reasons behind his assassination.
  2. Yushchenko Poisoning (2004) – Viktor Yushchenko, a Ukrainian politician and presidential candidate at the time, was poisoned with dioxin during a dinner. His disfiguring illness was linked to political rivalry and power struggles, showcasing the extreme lengths some may go to sabotage opponents.
  3. Pope Clement VII (1534) – Poisoning has long been a tool for eliminating rivals. Pope Clement VII was allegedly poisoned at a banquet, with many suspecting political and jealous rivals within the church were responsible for his sudden illness and death.
  4. Georgi Markov (1978) – The Bulgarian dissident and writer was assassinated in London by a poisoned umbrella tip, believed to be ordered by the Bulgarian secret service, with jealousy and political rivalries playing a role in the plot.
  5. The Medici Family Poisonings (16th Century) – Several members of the powerful Medici family in Renaissance Italy were believed to have been poisoned by rivals and envious individuals seeking to seize power or settle personal scores.

These historical cases underscore the potential threat faced by prominent figures in the public eye, especially when personal and professional rivalries are at play. With Selmor set to perform at an emotionally charged festival honoring her father’s legacy, some fear that unresolved tensions and jealousy within her family or the broader music industry could put her at risk.

As the festival draws closer, many are calling for heightened security measures to ensure the safety of all performers, particularly Selmor. Fans, friends, and loved ones are hoping the event will remain a celebration of music and culture, rather than being overshadowed by malicious acts. The Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival, scheduled to take place on September 27, 2024, in Johannesburg, South Africa, is set to honor the life and legacy of one of Africa’s most beloved musicians, but concerns about Selmor’s safety continue to cast a shadow over the festivities.-ZimEye

Confusion Grips Checheche Growth Point’s ‘Town’ Status

Municipal Reporter- The recent appointment of a Checheche Centre Board Committee by the government has caused confusion among residents who now mistakenly believe the growth point has officially been elevated to town status.

While excitement is brewing, the reality is that the long-awaited dream of Checheche becoming a town is still in progress but not quite there yet.

The confusion is fueled by local land barons with political connections, who have long pushed for the premature transformation of the area into a town to seize land and exploit desperate home seekers.

These individuals have been pressuring the Chipinge Rural District Council to speed up the process of upgrading the growth point.

Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe, in a letter dated 31 July 2024 to Chipinge Rural District Council Chairperson Councillor Godfrey Makuyana, announced the establishment of a Checheche Centre Town Board Committee. The letter stated:
“In terms of section 57 of the Rural District Council Act Chapter 29:13, I hereby appoint Checheche Centre as a Town Board Committee. The committee will be responsible for managing and leading development at Checheche Centre.”

The operational team, chaired by Deputy Director of Rural Local Authorities Mr C. Mudavanhu, includes officials like Mr M. Mazani, Deputy Director of Spatial Planning, and Ms L. Sebele, Financial Advisor. The team has a clear set of terms to guide their work, including defining boundaries and allocating assets between the Rural District Council and the new Town Board.

Chipinge Rural District Council CEO Mr. Blessing Mamvosha clarified that Checheche is not yet a town.
The creation of the committee is a step toward managing the Centre’s affairs. “If Checheche continues to grow, it will eventually be upgraded into a local board,” Mamvosha explained.

Despite this, local residents are celebrating what they believe is the granting of town status.

Shumirayi Muyambo, a local vegetable vendor, was thrilled, saying, “We are excited! We will now have brisk business and markets for our vegetables under proper shelter.”

A prominent businessman shared similar sentiments, anticipating Checheche’s independence and even hoping for the appointment of a mayor. “Checheche will soon be one of the greatest business towns in Manicaland,” he said.

However, Claris Madhuku, Director of the Platform for Youth and Community Development (PYCD), cautioned against misinformation. “Checheche has not yet attained town status. The letter from the Minister merely sets up a semi-autonomous committee to evaluate the growth point’s potential.”

Madhuku also expressed concerns over the political agenda driving the push for town status.

He emphasised that while Checheche’s transformation aligns with the National Development Strategy 1’s decentralisation goal, the process must involve all stakeholders to resolve administrative and boundary issues.” At PYCD we have been clear that the process of conferring Checheche with town status should be exhaustive where all key stakeholders are involved so that the boundaries, assets and other sticking admnstrative issues are resolved amicably,” explained Mr Claris Madhuku

Appointed as a growth point in 1982, Checheche spans 1,055 hectares, with rising demand for land sparking boundary disputes.

While the prospect of becoming a town is promising, it remains contingent on completing the necessary stages of becoming a local board first.

The excitement is palpable, but the road to town status is far from over.

Shops Remove ZiG Price Tags

By Business Reporter- Retail shops nationwide are removing ZiG price tags and replacing them with US dollar tags as the ZiG collapses.

Mysterious Death at Yadah Hotel: Uncovering the Truth Behind Liberty Chinembiri’s Murder

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Analysis | The death of Liberty Chinembiri, a young employee at Yadah Hotel, has raised more questions than answers. What should have been an ordinary shift turned into a fatal tragedy, and the mystery surrounding his murder has exposed a web of cover-ups, deceit, and disturbing behavior within the walls of the hotel. As the investigation unfolds, troubling details are emerging about the environment at Yadah Hotel and the actions of those closely tied to its management, including prominent religious figure Walter Magaya.

The Night of Liberty’s Death: Suspicious Circumstances

Liberty Chinembiri, an employee at Yadah Hotel, was killed in the early hours of the morning under suspicious circumstances. His work shift, which normally ended at 6 a.m., was abruptly cut short when he reportedly knocked off at 3 a.m.—a highly unusual occurrence. Liberty left behind his cellphone, a key item that no one would typically abandon, especially late at night.

The unexplained early departure has fueled speculation. Was Liberty coerced into leaving, or did something urgent force him away from his duties? The official version from hotel staff is puzzling: they claim that he knocked off earlier than usual, yet no explanation has been provided for why this break from routine occurred.

More disturbingly, Liberty was not alone before his death. He was with nine other individuals, yet despite the presence of these people, he was attacked and killed. If they were truly with him, why did none of them intervene, or at least witness the crime? It raises serious doubts about their involvement or knowledge of the events that led to his murder.

The Machete Cover-Up: A Sinister Plot to Frame an Innocent Man?

As the investigation into Liberty’s death progressed, new details emerged that suggested a deliberate attempt to shift blame onto an innocent party. A young man at the hotel, identified as Wayne, was found to have purchased machetes shortly after the murder. These weapons were not meant for self-defense or investigation—they were meant to frame someone else.

Wayne’s plan was to plant the machetes on a homeless man, attempting to mislead investigators into believing that this vulnerable individual was responsible for the crime. The homeless man, who had no known connection to Liberty or Yadah Hotel, was a convenient scapegoat. But the question remains: Why would Wayne go to such lengths to frame an innocent man if neither he nor the people he was with had anything to do with Liberty’s death?

The act of purchasing and planting the machetes suggests that Wayne, and perhaps others, were involved in a cover-up designed to protect someone much closer to the heart of Yadah Hotel.

The Magaya Connection: Violence and Denial

At the center of this story is Walter Magaya, the leader of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries and owner of Yadah Hotel. His involvement in the events surrounding Liberty’s death is highly suspicious.

According to sources within the hotel, after Liberty was attacked, Magaya claimed he did not have the financial resources to pay for Liberty’s admission to the hospital. This statement, coming from a man of significant wealth and influence, raised eyebrows. Why would someone with such vast resources refuse to help a critically injured employee? Was this an attempt to distance himself from the incident?

Adding to the troubling picture is Magaya’s alleged involvement in violent incidents at the hotel just weeks before Liberty’s death. According to reports, a group of young women and men were severely beaten by Magaya himself at Yadah Hotel, leaving them unable to walk. Shockingly, they were denied medical attention, forcing them to suffer in silence. This pattern of violence and neglect casts a dark shadow over Yadah Hotel and its leadership, raising the possibility that Liberty’s death is part of a broader culture of abuse and mistreatment.

Unanswered Questions: What Really Happened to Liberty?

Despite the ongoing investigation, many critical questions remain unanswered. Why did Liberty leave work early on the night of his murder, and why did he leave his phone behind? Who were the nine people he was with, and what role did they play in the events leading up to his death? Was Wayne acting on his own when he bought the machetes, or was he instructed by someone higher up to cover for the real perpetrators?

The involvement of Walter Magaya, a man with both wealth and power, cannot be ignored. His refusal to provide medical care for Liberty, combined with his history of violence, suggests that there may be more at play than a simple case of murder. Could Magaya or others connected to Yadah Hotel be using their influence to manipulate the investigation?

A Call for Justice

Liberty Chinembiri’s death is not an isolated tragedy—it is a reflection of deeper issues within Yadah Hotel and the people who control it. The attempt to frame an innocent homeless man shows a disturbing willingness to sacrifice the powerless in order to protect those with influence. The fact that young people were beaten and denied medical care weeks before Liberty’s death suggests that this is not a safe environment for employees or guests.

The authorities must fully investigate all those involved in Liberty’s death, from the nine individuals who were with him to Wayne, who attempted to shift the blame. Walter Magaya’s role, both in this incident and in previous acts of violence, should be scrutinized carefully. Liberty’s family and the public deserve answers, and those responsible must be held accountable.

For now, the truth remains buried in a cloud of deception, but one thing is clear: this case is far from over, and the fight for justice for Liberty Chinembiri has only just begun.

Warriors, Cameroon Share Spoils

Sports Correspondent

The Zimbabwe Warriors and Cameroon played out a thrilling 0-0 draw in their 2025 AFCON Qualifier Group J match at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda on Tuesday.

The highly anticipated match saw both teams create scoring opportunities, but neither could find the back of the net. Cameroon’s Aboubakar came close in the 90+1′ minute with a shot from a corner kick, but it sailed wide of the target.

The Warriors made a late substitution in the 90+6′ minute, bringing on Hadebe for Mapfumo, while Cameroon replaced Baleba with Ntcham in the same minute.

Despite four minutes of added time, neither team could break the deadlock, resulting in a share of the spoils.

The draw leaves both teams with a point each in Group J, setting up an exciting road ahead in the AFCON qualifiers.

Selmor Added to Oliver Mtukudzi Festival Lineup After Public Outcry

By A Correspondent| Selmor Mtukudzi has been confirmed as one of the performers at the inaugural Oliver Mtukudzi Festival of Arts, set to take place at Pakare Paye Arts Centre from September 20 to 22. The festival, held in honor of her late father and music legend Oliver Mtukudzi, initially did not include Selmor on its artist lineup, sparking public outrage.

The original lineup featured prominent artists such as Jah Prayzah, Andy Muridzo, Mokoomba, Feli Nandi, and others. However, fans took to social media to express their disapproval of Selmor’s omission from an event meant to celebrate her father’s legacy.

Taking to Facebook, Selmor expressed gratitude to her fans for standing up for her. “To all who spoke up for me, you have been amazing. I’m humbled by the love you have for my father, which has extended to me. I will not take it for granted. For that reason and in honour of my father’s legacy, I will be coming to Pakare Paye. Let’s do this right,” she wrote.

In response to the backlash, festival organisers were forced to address the controversy, with the Official Tuku Music page stating that Selmor had been invited but had not responded.

Selmor, however, did not hold back, criticizing the organisers and describing her exclusion as “witchcraft in broad daylight.”

She posted a video of a past performance at Pakare Paye with her father, captioning it, “This is one of our performances at Solo Fest at Pakare Paye, one of many with my dad. #HuroyiMasikatiMachena.”

Chaos As Great Zimbabwe University Evicts Mashava Mine Residents To Expand Hostels

Mnangagwa Personalizes Munhumutapa Day Celebrations

Zim People First Demands Immediate Release of Jailed Schoolgirl Nicole Chabata

Daisy Fails To Stop Selmor Honouring Tuku

Public Outcry Forces Change as Selmor Mtukudzi Takes Center Stage at Late Father’s Tribute Show

By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | Zimbabwean music fans have rallied behind Selmor Mtukudzi, daughter of the late music legend Oliver Mtukudzi, after she was initially excluded from a tribute concert in honor of her father. The event, set to take place at Pakare Paye Arts Centre, was originally planned without Selmor’s participation, sparking widespread outrage and a wave of support for the musician on social media.

Following intense public pressure and an outpouring of support, Selmor has now been named the headlining act of the Pakare Paye show. Expressing her gratitude to those who spoke up for her, Selmor shared an emotional message: “To all who spoke up for me, you guys have been amazing. I’m extremely humbled by the love you have for my father, which has extended over to me. I will not take it for granted. For that reason, and in honour of my father’s legacy, I will be coming to Pakare Paye. Please come out in your numbers, and let’s do this the right way. I love you all❤️.”

Selmor’s announcement

The decision to feature Selmor as the main performer has been seen by many as a victory for those who felt she was unfairly sidelined. However, the situation has left Oliver Mtukudzi’s widow, Daisy Mtukudzi, facing public humiliation amid the backlash. Many Zimbabweans criticized her perceived role in Selmor’s exclusion from the event, prompting an uncomfortable spotlight on family tensions.

In response to the controversy, Tafadzwa Mugwadi, the Director of Information for the ruling ZANU-PF party, back in 2019 took to Twitter to clarify Selmor’s relationship with her late father’s second wife, Daisy Mtukudzi. Mugwadi stated:

  1. “Let me clarify the context on the Selmor & Daisy Mtukudzi matter. Selmor has always treated Daisy with the utmost respect despite what some may insinuate. It is unfortunate that this incident has been blown out of proportion.”
  2. “At her father’s funeral, Selmor demonstrated her integrity by refusing to accept donations that were meant for the widow, Daisy. She asked that any contributions be given to Daisy instead, showcasing her respect and understanding.”
  3. “This is not the time to sow division or speculate. Selmor Mtukudzi’s actions have always reflected the values of her father – humility, respect, and peace. Let us focus on celebrating the legacy of Oliver Mtukudzi, a national icon.”

Mugwadi’s comments aimed to dispel any notions of animosity between Selmor and Daisy, emphasizing the daughter’s respectful demeanor in the wake of her father’s passing.

As the date for the Pakare Paye show approaches, the renewed involvement of Selmor Mtukudzi has revitalized interest in the event, turning it into not just a tribute to Oliver Mtukudzi’s enduring legacy but also a celebration of unity and respect within the music community. Fans of the late music icon are expected to turn out in large numbers to honour his memory and support Selmor as she takes the stage in his name.- ZimEye

SA Student Assaults Teacher, Sparks National Outcry

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | A shocking video has gone viral on social media, showing a violent altercation between a student and a teacher in a South African classroom. The footage, which has spread rapidly across the internet, captures a student physically attacking a teacher in front of the class, while other students watch and record the incident.

The disturbing clip has ignited widespread debate across the country, drawing strong reactions from educators, parents, and political leaders. Mmusi Maimane, a South African Member of Parliament and leader of the “Build One South Africa” movement, weighed in on the controversy, tweeting, “We have a serious discipline crisis in our schools. No student should ever lay their hands on a teacher. We cannot end up with a country where teachers teach from bullet-proof windows.”

Maimane’s comments highlight growing concerns about safety in South African schools and the increasing incidents of violence involving students and educators. The incident in the viral video has underscored a pressing need for greater discipline and respect within the education system, sparking discussions on how best to address this alarming trend.

Authorities have yet to release details about the incident or identify those involved. However, there are calls for immediate action to ensure the safety of both teachers and students, and to restore order and discipline in classrooms across the country. The Department of Basic Education has been urged to investigate the incident thoroughly and to implement stronger measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

As the conversation continues to unfold, many South Africans are asking tough questions about the state of their education system and the urgent need for reforms to address the root causes of school violence.

Mnangagwa’s Third Term Campaigners Living In Fear Of Chiwenga

By A Correspondent| Members of ZANU-PF advocating for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend his tenure beyond 2028 are driven by concerns about the potential challenges a new administration might encounter, a political analyst has suggested.

Despite Mnangagwa’s public stance against exceeding the constitutionally mandated two terms, some factions within the ruling party are actively campaigning for his continued leadership.

The slogan “2030 vaMnangagwa vanenge vachipo” (Mnangagwa will still be in power in 2030) has become increasingly popular at ZANU-PF gatherings.

Mnangagwa’s deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, is widely viewed as a potential successor. However, discussions around a possible third term are expected to dominate the party’s upcoming conference in Bulawayo next month.

Speaking at a forum hosted by the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), political analyst Ibbo Mandaza expressed doubt about the likelihood of Mnangagwa pursuing a term extension. “I don’t believe Mnangagwa will push for an extension.

He understands the risks and complexities involved and is likely just testing the waters,” Mandaza commented.

Extending Mnangagwa’s presidency would require ZANU-PF to amend Section 91(2) of the constitution through parliamentary approval.

Mandaza pointed out that supporters of the third term are likely motivated by fears of a new administration’s impact on their future.

“They are worried about what a new leader would do, particularly in addressing the corruption and legal violations associated with Mnangagwa’s rule.

The incoming administration would face the enormous task of restoring credibility and addressing the legacies left by the current leadership,” Mandaza added.

Mai Oliver Arrested

Three women from Nyanga, including one identified as Mai Oliver, have been remanded out of custody after appearing in court on Tuesday following their arrest for assaulting another woman.

The trio was apprehended on Monday after a video of the assault went viral on social media, sparking outrage. Zimbabwe Republic Police Deputy Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Blessmore Chishaka confirmed the arrests, stating, “As ZRP, we noted the concerns of the general public following the circulation of a video where a woman is assaulted viciously by other women. We would like to confirm that this incident happened in Nyanga, and the three women have since been arrested. They appeared in court, and the matter is being dealt with.”

In the disturbing footage, Mai Oliver is seen accusing the victim of having an affair with her husband, identified only as Baba Oliver. Despite the victim’s attempts to deny the allegations, Mai Oliver and two other women proceeded to attack her.

This incident comes shortly after the arrest of six teenagers in July for assaulting a female peer in Hwedza. The teenagers have since been convicted.

Mnangagwa Challenger Backs Chiwenga In Zanu PF Succession War

By A Correspondent| Sybeth Musengezi, a prominent Zanu-PF youth who previously challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy following the 2017 coup, has publicly pledged his support for Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. This development comes as reports emerge of internal Zanu-PF maneuvers to marginalize Chiwenga, a key figure perceived as an obstacle to extending Mnangagwa’s tenure beyond 2028.

Chiwenga, widely seen as a potential successor to Mnangagwa, played a pivotal role in the 2017 military intervention that led to the ousting of the late former President Robert Mugabe, effectively handing power to Mnangagwa.

Musengezi expressed his loyalty to Chiwenga amidst the ongoing factional disputes within Zanu-PF.

“We supported Nelson Chamisa on August 23 as a matter of principle. If VP Chiwenga is indeed being sidelined in Zanu-PF, we will stand by him, also as a matter of principle,” Musengezi stated on his Facebook page. “People seem to forget that he risked his life in 2017 to put Mnangagwa in power.”

Amid these internal divisions, Mnangagwa’s allies have initiated efforts to amend the Constitution, aiming to remove the two-term presidential limit currently set to end Mnangagwa’s tenure in 2028. Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairperson, Godwills Masimirembwa, recently highlighted the party’s push to alter the constitutional provision, either by extending term lengths, increasing the term limit, or abolishing it altogether.

Although Mnangagwa has publicly claimed he has no intention to seek another term, skepticism remains due to his failure to curb the actions of his supporters. Several senior Zanu-PF figures, including former political commissar Mike Bimha, are reportedly opposed to these constitutional changes, further fueling factionalism within the ruling party.

Shops Shift Back To US Dollar Pricing As ZiG Crumbles

By Business Reporter- Major retail stores across the country have reverted to pricing goods in US dollars, as the Zimbabwean Dollar (ZiG) continues to lose its value.

Basic commodities such as flour and mealie-meal have become scarce in supermarkets, and some retailers with these goods have removed price tags in the local currency altogether, further signaling a shift away from the troubled ZiG.

As the investigation continues, the ZRP has called for calm and underscored the importance of maintaining peace and order. Further details regarding the case will be shared as they become available.-ZimEye

Harris Edges Out Trump in Fiery First Debate

Philadelphia, PA — In a highly charged first presidential debate on Tuesday night, Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to outmaneuver former President Donald Trump during a tense 90-minute face-off at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

From the outset, Harris came out swinging with a series of pointed attacks that seemed to rattle Trump, especially on issues like his rally crowd sizes, his conduct during the Capitol riot, and the growing list of former officials from his administration who are now vocal critics of his campaign.

Presidential debate in US last night

“I think Americans should see for themselves what happens at a Trump rally,” Harris quipped early in the debate, suggesting that people leave Trump’s events “early out of exhaustion and boredom.” Her comment visibly irritated Trump, who spent much of his response on immigration—traditionally a strong point for him—defending the size of his crowds rather than addressing policy.

The pattern continued throughout the night, with Harris effectively steering Trump into lengthy defenses of his past actions and statements. At times, Trump raised his voice and shook his head in frustration, further underscoring his agitation.

In one notable exchange, Trump was prompted by Harris to double down on a bizarre, debunked claim that immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were killing and eating local pets. “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats,” Trump insisted, a statement that drew swift condemnation from fact-checkers and was widely ridiculed on social media.

As the debate continued, Harris consistently capitalized on topics where Trump has faced criticism, including abortion. “Donald Trump hand-selected three members of the Supreme Court with the intention of undoing Roe v. Wade, and they did exactly as he intended,” she argued, looking directly into the camera to appeal to viewers.

Reaction and Polls Suggest Harris Victory

Immediately following the debate, early reactions and polling data indicated that Harris may have emerged as the winner. A CNN snap poll of debate watchers showed Harris leading Trump by a significant margin, with 63% saying she had won the debate compared to 37% for Trump.

Political analyst Nate Silver noted on his blog that there is “a strong consensus that Harris won the night,” citing the CNN poll results and even some cautious admissions from conservative commentators. “Even the Fox News panel that I caught at the tail end of the evening seemed to concede that it was a win for Harris,” Silver wrote.

Some conservatives, including Chris Rufo and Rod Dreher, also conceded a win for Harris, albeit with caveats. “She had a good night,” acknowledged Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican and Trump supporter, though he argued that Trump had performed better on policy.

Calls for a Second Debate

In the aftermath of the debate, there were already calls for a rematch. Fox News proposed a second debate in October, and Harris’s campaign immediately signaled their readiness. “Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?” asked Harris-Walz campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon in a statement.

Trump, however, remained non-committal when asked if he would participate in another debate. “I have to think about it,” he told Fox News, suggesting he might only consider it if it were on “a fair network.”

Celebrity Endorsements and the Broader Impact

The debate also drew attention from celebrities, with pop star Taylor Swift publicly endorsing Harris in a post signed “Childless Cat Lady,” a playful jab at a past comment by Trump’s running mate, JD Vance. Swift’s endorsement, especially popular among younger voters, added another layer to the evening’s drama.

As the dust settles from the first debate, both campaigns are gearing up for what could be an even more contentious second round. For now, though, it seems Kamala Harris has gained the upper hand, leaving Donald Trump on the defensive.- BBC/CNN

Double Murder Mystery in Chegutu as Women Found Dead on Farm

Two Women Found Dead at Stockdale Farm, Chegutu; Police Launch Murder Investigations

Chegutu, Mashonaland Central Province* – The community of Chegutu is in shock after the discovery of the bodies of two women at Stockdale Farm on Sunday, following an extensive search after they were reported missing.

Police identified the victims as Sekai Antonio, 59, and Alice Zhuwao, 54, who had been reported missing two days prior. According to National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, their lifeless bodies were found in a bushy area on the farm.

Sekai Antonio’s body was discovered with a deep cut on her head and multiple bruises, while Alice Zhuwao’s body was found approximately 100 meters away, also bearing a severe head wound. The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear as investigations continue. The victims’ remains have been transported to Chegutu Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted to determine the exact causes of death.

“The police are conducting thorough investigations to establish what led to these tragic deaths,” Commissioner Nyathi stated. “We urge anyone with information that could assist in our inquiries to come forward and report to the nearest police station.”

In a separate incident, police in Hwange are calling for public assistance to locate a suspect known only as “Usher,” believed to be connected to a murder near Chipale River in the Lusulu area. The appeal follows the discovery of Mqondisi Sibanda’s body on September 6, 2024. The 41-year-old was reportedly involved in an altercation with the suspect, which is thought to have led to his death.

Sibanda’s body was found with a cut on the forehead, suggesting a violent confrontation. Commissioner Nyathi has urged anyone with information related to this case to come forward.

Authorities are now appealing to the public to assist in both investigations to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Raging Floods Kill 20

Torrential downpours in North Africa’s arid mountains and deserts over the weekend resulted in catastrophic flooding, claiming the lives of over 20 people in Morocco and Algeria. The rare and intense storms caused widespread destruction, damaging homes, critical infrastructure, and disrupting essential services.

In Morocco, the two-day deluge exceeded historic averages, surpassing annual rainfall totals in some areas. The flooding affected regions still recovering from a deadly earthquake last year. Officials reported 18 fatalities, 56 collapsed homes, and 9 missing persons. Foreign nationals from Canada and Peru were among the victims. The government is working to restore communication and access to flooded areas, urging caution amidst the “exceptional situation”.

In neighboring Algeria, where a presidential election took place over the weekend, at least 5 people died in the desert provinces. The Interior Minister described the situation as “catastrophic”. Thousands of civil protection and military officers have been deployed to assist with emergency response efforts and rescue families trapped in their homes. The floods also damaged bridges and trains, exacerbating the crisis.

The rare deluge, predicted by meteorologists, highlights the vulnerability of North Africa’s Sahara Desert regions to extreme weather events.

Tshabangu Seizes Chamisa Money

By A Correspondent

In a recent development that has raised eyebrows, Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has reportedly been awarded a cash reward by the government.

Analysts suggest that this move is part of a broader strategy to undermine the opposition’s credibility and diminish the people’s struggle.

According to a source within ZANU PF, Tshabangu’s reward is seen as a tactic to co-opt and neutralize critical voices within the opposition.

The source revealed, “ZANU PF and CCC receive US$ 5 072 463.77,” indicating a substantial financial allocation that is part of a broader political finance distribution.

The allocation details were further clarified by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs. Under the Political Party Finance Act, the Minister has distributed Zig$70,000,000 to political parties for the year 2024.

The breakdown is as follows: ZANU PF received Zig$47,883,500, while CCC was allocated Zig$22,116,500.

This financial disbursement is seen by some as a reward for Tshabangu’s actions, which are viewed as efforts to undermine the CCC’s position and the broader opposition movement.

Critics argue that such rewards are a means to co-opt dissent and shift the political dynamics in favor of the ruling party.

Mnangagwa Ineptitude Exposed Again

By A Correspondent

In a pointed critique released on Monday, opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has sharply criticized President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s performance during his initial 100 days in office. Chamisa’s remarks underscore what he perceives as a stark failure by Mnangagwa to live up to his campaign promises and effectively address the nation’s pressing issues.

Chamisa’s statement is a reflection on Mnangagwa’s shortcomings in implementing key policies that were central to his electoral platform. According to Chamisa, the President’s record thus far is marked by a series of unmet commitments, which he labels as “blue lies”—a term suggesting deceptive promises made to gain public support.

Drawing from a mix of political analysis and cultural reference, Chamisa invoked the wisdom of the late Zimbabwean musician Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi to underscore his argument.

He quoted Mtukudzi’s song lyrics to emphasize the importance of genuine and reliable promises.

Chamisa specifically highlighted the discrepancies between Mnangagwa’s assurances and his actual performance by referencing items from the New Great Zimbabwe policy blueprint, particularly numbers 2, 3, and 6.

Said Chamisa :
“WISDOM OUTLIVES TIME…Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi once sang beautifully..Kana uchikopa kopa dhoiri rakanaka. Check out numbers 2, 3 & 6 especially number 6 from the New Great Zimbabwe policy blueprint.”

Chamisa’s critique implies that Mnangagwa’s policy blueprint, which was supposed to guide the administration’s first 100 days, has not been adequately followed.

The New Great Zimbabwe policy blueprint was envisioned as a comprehensive plan to address various national challenges, but Chamisa argues that its execution has been lacking.

By presenting his case through a cultural lens and policy analysis, Chamisa aims to hold Mnangagwa accountable and pressure the administration to deliver on its promises.

This critique not only questions the credibility of Mnangagwa’s leadership but also highlights a broader issue of trust between the government and the citizens it serves.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the effectiveness of Mnangagwa’s governance will likely remain a focal point of scrutiny, with Chamisa and other critics closely monitoring the administration’s ability to meet its stated objectives.

Striker Macauley Bonne Joins Southend United

Zimbabwean forward Macauley Bonne has signed a one-year deal with Southend United, returning to the English National League where he previously played for Luton Town. Bonne, 28, joins the club on a free transfer and will wear the number nine shirt.

“I’m really happy to be here and crack on,” Bonne said after signing. “I’ve been training with the boys and it’s a really good group. I’m looking forward to getting back to scoring goals in a league I know really well.”

Bonne was released by Gillingham at the end of last season and has been working on his fitness. He could make his debut for Southend on Tuesday evening against Eastleigh.

The club expressed their delight at Bonne’s arrival, stating: “We are delighted to announce the arrival of striker Macauley Bonne! Bonne joins us on a one-year deal with a Club option and will wear the number nine shirt at Roots Hall.”

Nees Responds To Biased Officiating Claims

Zimbabwe national team coach Michael Nees has responded to Kenya coach Engin Firat’s claims that Senegalese referee Adalbert Diouf favoured the Warriors in their encounter on Friday.

Speaking after the goalless draw in the Group J of the 2025 Afcon Qualifiers, Firat claimed the referee’s biased, saying:

“The referee should not help a team on the pitch.

“There were so many situations where I had no idea what he was seeing. Takwara should have been shown a red card for a dangerous foul in the second half.

“Billiat should have been sent off for a second bookable offense. Austin was fouled in the box, yet nothing was given. Why is it always us?”

In response to the criticism, Nees presented a contrasting perspective, praising the referee’s performance despite the high-pressure environment.

“Look from a coaching position, you don’t have the best view if the decisions are always right. You think you have the best view when it’s against your team, you protest, he must have made a mistake and so. But I think he officiated very calm.

“The yellow card against Khama [Billiat] was correct, yes. Against Gerrard [Takwara], yes, you can give. He didn’t overreact because their bench was always jumping up with every referee’s decision so he stayed calm. I think the referee had a good game. He didn’t get nervous or so.”

The gaffer added: “I think one time they wanted to die for a penalty. But the coaching bench position is not the best to really evaluate a referee’s performance. It’s very subjective. You maybe understand, had a better view. But solid, no real mistakes and good game from him.”

999 Corruption Cases Ignored, Mamombe Warns

Harare West MP Joana Mamombe Urges Finance Minister to Act on Rampant Corruption

Harare, Zimbabwe – September 10, 2024 | In a bold address to Parliament during the Mid-Term Fiscal Policy Review, Harare West MP Joana Mamombe has issued a firm call to the Minister of Finance, demanding immediate and tangible action against widespread corruption in government institutions.

Mamombe, a vocal advocate for transparency and accountability, highlighted shocking figures from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), which recorded 999 corruption cases since the start of the year. Many of these cases involve public officials misappropriating taxpayer funds. She criticized the Finance Ministry for failing to outline clear strategies to tackle these issues in its fiscal policy review.

“The Minister spoke about transparency and accountability, but he failed to clearly articulate the specific measures the Ministry intends to take to combat corruption,” Mamombe stated. She underscored the devastating impact of corruption on critical sectors, including health, education, and social services, which continue to deteriorate due to the embezzlement of public funds.

Mamombe also pointed out the government’s debt burden, with external debt standing at 58% and domestic debt at 41%. She argued that funds lost to corruption could have been redirected to address urgent issues such as drought relief and disaster recovery, notably Cyclone Idai.

The Harare West MP also referred to the Finance Minister’s recent announcement of 51 companies blacklisted over illegal dealings on parallel markets but questioned the lack of clarity on efforts to recover the misappropriated funds.

In her closing remarks, Mamombe made a passionate plea: “Citizens cannot continue to bleed from paying taxes while their money is being misused. I urge the Minister to address corruption head-on in his response. This is a critical issue for the future of Zimbabwe.”

Her call has resonated widely as Zimbabwe faces growing public frustration over corruption scandals and the lack of meaningful reform in government institutions. The Finance Minister’s response will be closely watched in the coming days.

Zimbabweans Embrace Stalink, Dump Econet

By Technology Reporter- Zimbabweans have fully embraced the newly launched and prestigious global network provider Starlink and started dumping local network providers who have been robbing them for many years.

Experts suggest that local internet service providers can either collaborate with SpaceX products or risk closing their shops.

Over the weekend, Starlink’s billionaire founder, Mr Elon Musk, confirmed the activation of the service on his X handle.
“Starlink now available in Zimbabwe!” he said.
The service is believed to revolutionise internet access, particularly in underserved urban and rural areas.

In May, the government approved Starlink’s licensing by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz).

The service, which relies on a constellation of low-orbit satellites, is reportedly capable of download speeds ranging from 50 megabits per second (Mbps) to 200Mbps, with latency of between 20 milliseconds and 40 milliseconds, a substantial improvement from the many existing internet options in the country.
The cheapest hardware package costs US$223, including shipping, and the internet service costs US$30 a month. The top-end unlimited package costs US$373 for the hardware and US$50 monthly.
There have been questions about how the service will work, whether there are intermediaries in terms of payment, and how accessible it is to the ordinary Zimbabwean.
Mr Willard Shoko, a Bulawayo-based Starlink research and high-speed Internet consultant, said there are no intermediaries in terms of monthly subscriptions.
“In terms of the monthly subscription, the user pays directly to Starlink, not to any third party or intermediary. As long as one has a Visa Card or EcoCash and that US$30, you pay directly to Starlink. So, there is no reason for the packages to increase,” said Mr Shoko.
He said prices for the kits will remain the same, as everything will be delivered to a person’s doorstep.
“There is a price for the hardware, the monthly subscription, and the handling and shipping fee, which is US$223. There are taxes and everything in that price is a one-off,” said Mr Shoko.
“So, what Starlink has done is pay all the duties and charges to DHL when you purchase the kit. When you input your address into Starlink’s system and pay for the kit and handling fees, it will be delivered to your doorstep.”
Mr Shoko said Starlink is continually innovating to make the kits more affordable for everyone.
“Starlink innovates, and you find that the dishes they have now are cheaper than the ones they used to have. Earlier, there were those that rotated, and now they don’t, especially the mini dish. It no longer comes with a portable Wi-Fi router; instead, it is integrated into the dish,” said Mr Shoko.
“Starlink used to subsidise their kits because it was expensive to produce them. But now there is a huge facility in Bastrop, Texas, where they produce over 90 000 kits per week, and they are expanding that facility. They are also working on Starship, a reusable rocket that launches their Starlink satellites into space.”

Mr Shoko said the reason why data prices in Zimbabwe were high was because ISPs are not working together.
“In other countries, there is what is called infrastructure sharing, and Starlink operates on that model. Starlink gets its internet from Liquid in Nigeria.
“Their architecture is based on working with other entities, which helps them make their prices cheaper,” he explained.
“What we need now is for local players to start working together in infrastructure sharing.”
Mr Shoko said the arrival of Starlink presents a good opportunity for local ISPs.
“How Starlink works is that when you have your Starlink terminal, it communicates with satellites in space, and then it communicates with your ground station. The ground station is like the one in Mazowe, the only one that Starlink has in southern Africa is in Nigeria.
“When we have a ground station in Zimbabwe, local ISPs can provide internet for Starlink. Then, the people of Zimbabwe and the region will benefit,” said Mr Shoko.
He noted that major ISPs have started to reduce their tariffs and introduce cheaper packages since Starlink has gone live in Zimbabwe.
ICT expert, Mr Robert Ndlovu, who runs Wozatel, said he has started installing Starlink kits in rural areas.
He said the SpaceX product offers tremendous possibilities, especially for the education of rural children.
“Starlink has the potential to transform the lives of rural communities and schoolchildren by providing reliable internet access, opening up new educational and economic opportunities, and enhancing connectivity,” said Mr Ndlovu.
“There is a community in Matopos where we are going this week to install a Starlink satellite and system. This will not only benefit the person who bought it but also the whole community.”
Mr Ndlovu said with high-speed internet, students in rural areas can access a wealth of online educational resources, including e-learning platforms, interactive tutorials, and educational videos, enhancing their learning experience.
“The advantage of Starlink is that it can facilitate remote learning opportunities, allowing students to participate in virtual classrooms, access live lessons, and collaborate with peers and teachers from other locations, bridging the educational divide,” he said.
“Government departments and offices, no matter how remote they are, can stay connected to better serve the people. So, this is what we are doing as a company that provides support in terms of installation of Starlink kits and also setting up networks for those who want to use the internet,” said Mr Ndlovu.

Cops Beat Up Ndebele Villagers, Force Them To Sing Shona War Songs

By Political Reporter- Police in Nkayi are under fire for assaulting 11 villagers, forcing them to march and sing revolutionary war songs in Shona.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has taken up the case, demanding justice for what they describe as a”brutal crackdown.”

In a post on X today, ZLHR stated that the villagers were subjected to violence under the guise of an investigation into the theft of diesel.

“The Nkayi villagers have called on the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to take immediate action against the rogue officers who severely beat them and coerced them into singing liberation songs,” read part of the ZLHR post.

Lawyers Jabulani Mhlanga and Prisca Dube, representing the villagers, lodged a formal complaint with the Officer-in-Charge at Manoti Police Station. They condemned the conduct of the officers, who allegedly carried out violent raids across three homesteads belonging to the Sibanda, Ncube, and Lunga families, claiming to be investigating the theft of diesel from a local entrepreneur, Oscar Mawarire.

Mhlanga and Dube reported that the ZRP officers, armed with rifles, truncheons, and whips, unlawfully assaulted the villagers, including a minor, without any justification. They further alleged that the villagers were forced to sing liberation songs in Shona and were beaten again for not singing correctly.

The lawyers added that the officers conducted searches without warrants and seized various tools, falsely accusing the villagers of using them in criminal activities. Despite Mawarire reportedly informing the police that the villagers were not the suspects, the officers arrested seven of them and took them to a police post at Kana Mission.

The villagers were not allowed to wear shoes or warm clothing, and their rights were not explained to them during the arrest. At the police post, they endured further abuse, were forced to sleep on concrete floors without blankets or access to ablution facilities, and were handcuffed together.

The ZRP officers allegedly made discriminatory remarks, threatening to set an example to prevent “Ndebele thieves” from encroaching into “Shona territory.” On July 15, the villagers were released after paying US$30 each, but they were not issued receipts or provided with medical forms necessary for treatment at government facilities. They eventually sought medical care at a private clinic before engaging ZLHR.

On August 1, Mhlanga and Dube wrote to the Officer-in-Charge at Manoti Police Station, demanding an investigation into the abuse. They protested the violation of the villagers’ fundamental rights, including the right to liberty, dignity, protection from cruel treatment, and equality, as enshrined in Zimbabwe’s Constitution. The lawyers insisted that the officers responsible for the brutality be prosecuted.

The incident has sparked outrage, with some comparing it to the atrocities of the Gukurahundi genocide. “Is this tribalism another operation against yet another generation of dissidents?” one villager remarked, adding, “This is unacceptable, and Matabeleland must not stand for it.”

Mbiko KaMadlenya, a villager who experienced similar abuse during Gukurahundi, said the incident was a painful reminder of the past.

“This happened to me and my relative in 1985. We were in Grade 7, forced to sing Shona songs, beaten, and kept in a police station for two weeks. Our crime? Being Ndebele. I am shocked it’s happening again in 2024.

Ex-Cop Found Dead In UK

By Shelton Muchena, England | A 35-year-old Zimbabwean woman and ex-police officer, Barbara Nomakhosi, has been found dead.

Nomakhosi was found dead in her home in Bury, Greater Manchester, last Friday night. She had multiple injuries on her body.

On the same night, a 40-year-old man, believed to be connected to Barbara’s death, tragically lost his life after being struck by a lorry on the M65 motorway between Blackburn and Accrington. Authorities are treating this incident as a suspected suicide, leading to questions about the circumstances surrounding Barbara’s death. Police have stated that there are no other suspects being sought and that there is no wider risk to the public.
Barbara had moved to the UK with dreams of a brighter future, working diligently as a care worker while drawing upon her experience from her previous role in the police force back home. Her family has released a touching tribute, stating, “Barbara was a caring and hard-working person. She was so thoughtful and always checking up on her family and friends. Barbara loved her family and enjoyed working as a carer. We loved Barbara so much, and life will not be the same without her.”

As the investigation unfolds, the community grieves the loss of a vibrant life dedicated to service and compassion. Barbara’s legacy as a devoted caregiver and a loving family member will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
