It’s believed that the perpetrators broke into the school to steal some items. The incident is being investigated.

An enraged crowd broke through police lines in the capital, Nairobi, storming the parliament building before setting parts of it on fire. The chaos erupted as MPs passed an amended finance bill, which includes several unpopular tax increases.
In an address on Tuesday evening, President William Ruto vowed to deploy all necessary means to “thwart any attempts by dangerous criminals to undermine the security and stability of our country.” He has since deployed the military to help quell the protests.

The arrest, which occurred yesterday, is being viewed by some as a possible retribution attack.
Police spokesman, Commissioner Nyathi, confirmed the arrest, stating, “The ZRP confirms that Bright Matonga has been arrested by police in Chegutu, in connection with two reports of theft made by farmers, who were leasing his farm. A warrant of arrest was duly issued by the courts. More details will be released in due course.”

The formation of the second Government of National Unity (GNU) is a momentous development in South Africa’s democracy.
Every effort must be made to ensure that the GNU remains true to its founding spirit of collaboration in good faith to drive a programme that improves the lives of all South Africa’s people.
South Africans made clear with their votes in last month’s elections that they want their elected representatives to put aside narrow interests and work together to build the country. To do so, the GNU cannot be preoccupied with jockeying for positions, tussles over appointments or squabbles within and between parties.
The success of the GNU will be measured by the extent to which we are prepared to focus not on who will govern, but on how we will govern, together.
The first GNU was established in 1994 to promote nation building and inclusivity from a racially divided past during a period of political transition. Among its main tasks was to ensure the passage of a new democratic Constitution.
Giving effect to the principles of that Constitution and the Bill of Right must be the overriding focus of this GNU. This will be done by pursing a common programme to eradicate poverty and build a more equal society, to create jobs, and to make government truly work for the people.
The GNU Statement of Intent provides a solid base for genuine cooperation between parties across the political spectrum who have signed up of their own accord.
The Statement of Intent commits the signatories to a set of foundational principles that include respect for constitutionalism; accountability, transparency and community participation in government; evidence-based policy and decision-making; professionalisation of the public service; integrity and good governance.
The parties to the GNU have agreed on priorities for the incoming administration. At the top of the list of priorities is the achievement of rapid, inclusive and sustainable economic growth to create jobs.
It will be critical that the GNU stays the course on the structural reform that is underway to improve the business operating environment and establish South Africa as an investment destination of choice. These reforms are necessary to resolve longstanding challenges in key industries and create more jobs and opportunities. We will need to build on the progress that has already been made, while accelerating the pace of reform.
The fact that there is broad consensus among the parties on the priorities of the incoming administration gives us encouragement that the GNU will indeed take the country forward. Emanating from the priorities outlined in the Statement of Intent, the parties will further refine the GNU’s programme, including through the proposed National Dialogue process.
We remain committed to consensus-building and to the representation of a broad range of interests and viewpoints within government. At the same time, we are all keenly aware that South Africans expect action, implementation and results.
In a robust defence of the first Government of National Unity in 1994, President Nelson Mandela described it as an enduring national consensus “that is neither an imposition of one party over others, nor a honeymoon premised on the fickle whims of a fleeting romance”. The same is true today.
As parties finalise the modalities of the GNU guided by the Statement of Intent, the days and weeks that lie ahead will be crucial.
The country’s hopes are pinned on the success of the GNU. Our stated commitment to work together constructively and for South Africa’s benefit has generated a great deal of goodwill that we should not squander.
South Africans are watching. We should not waste our energies on those who stand in the way of our country’s progress or lose momentum over differences that can be resolved.
We need to demonstrate in both word and deed that our programme is clear, coherent and sustainable, that our collaboration is genuine, and that the interests of the people will always come first.

From underwriting and sanitizing colonialism to coddling the thieving appetites of evil politicians, so-called Men of God provide deep moral cover while shutting down citizens’ natural instincts to resist oppression.
The Christian community in Zimbabwe, along with Econet, are twin pillars of retrogression, contemptible defenders of the reprehensible, and arbiters of the horrible. I cannot fathom any coalescence of power to dim the wheels of protest, progress, and the inherent capacity of people to demand more.
Everywhere in the march towards improvement is the overwhelming, creepy, corruptible, and smothering presence of the sneaky, spineless religious lot. Zimbabwe suffocates from the leadership of the least capable among us, who obfuscate their incapacity to do anything with a rush towards putting all into a stupor of nonsense, including defending the indefensible.
Every bad actor in town needs religious cover, and Zimbabwe has them in great quantity. They multiply like mushrooms and fester around the fetid need for moral cleansing demanded by the butchers in our midst. With a ready clutch of these religious clowns, truth finds a new name, a new swing, and new acceptance. The great damnation of our nation’s and continent’s march towards prosperity is the penury induced by the religious thugs among us.
They wax lyrical about ancient texts from other cultures while sugar-coating them with universal moral acceptance and the usual shyster shtick of better things in the afterlife. If we rid ourselves of religious corruption, social-political change is all the more possible and palpable.
With the slimy religious snake oil salespeople abundant in the verdant land of Zimbabwe, who needs to hear of prime evil They are all deeply bought and drowned in the whims and caprices of corrupt politics. To change the politics of the country and continent, do something about the dirty religious shenanigans.
Endemic corruption, dictatorial government and gross indifference to the bad material and social conditions never had a more reliable and ready partner than the hopelessly compromised Christian leadership in Zimbabwe. They provide public endorsement, prayer and supplication to an out of touch leadership and even worse forever available like locusts to give cover for exposed government. Change is only possible when we manage to rid ourselves of the cloak of endemic religious corruption in our midst.
THE ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) have proved to be masters of confusion after turning the Warriors into a laughing stock following the release of a third COSAFA squad this Sunday.

By Political Reporter- Police in Chegutu have arrested former Deputy Minister of Information Bright Matonga on allegations of stealing agricultural inputs valued at US$424,888.
Matonga was detained at Seruwe Police Station in Chegutu and is expected to appear in court at the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed Matonga’s arrest, stating that it was in connection with two reports of theft made by farmers leasing his farm.
The brief statement reads: “The ZRP confirms that Bright Matonga has been arrested by police in Chegutu in connection with two reports of theft made by farmers who were leasing his farm. A warrant of arrest was duly issued by the courts.”
The police indicated that further details about the arrest would be released in due course.
Matonga served as Deputy Information Minister in the cabinet of President Robert Mugabe.
Matonga was, in 2016, reportedly blamed for the decline of Chigwell Estate in Chegutu, a farm that, before his takeover, supported the livelihoods of approximately 500 people and contributed $4 million to Zimbabwe’s annual export revenue.
In July 2020, Matonga was listed in the BSR (Business Strategic Report) of 18 July 2020 as a beneficiary of the 2007 Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Farm Mechanisation Scheme, part of the Fast Track Land Reform Programme. According to the list, he received goods worth US$359,420 under the thematic group “Politicians.”

Giving effect to the principles of that Constitution and the Bill of Right must be the overriding focus of this GNU. This will be done by pursing a common programme to eradicate poverty and build a more equal society, to create jobs, and to make government truly work for the people.
The GNU Statement of Intent provides a solid base for genuine cooperation between parties across the political spectrum who have signed up of their own accord.
The Statement of Intent commits the signatories to a set of foundational principles that include respect for constitutionalism; accountability, transparency and community participation in government; evidence-based policy and decision-making; professionalisation of the public service; integrity and good governance.
The parties to the GNU have agreed on priorities for the incoming administration. At the top of the list of priorities is the achievement of rapid, inclusive and sustainable economic growth to create jobs.
It will be critical that the GNU stays the course on the structural reform that is underway to improve the business operating environment and establish South Africa as an investment destination of choice. These reforms are necessary to resolve longstanding challenges in key industries and create more jobs and opportunities. We will need to build on the progress that has already been made, while accelerating the pace of reform.
The fact that there is broad consensus among the parties on the priorities of the incoming administration gives us encouragement that the GNU will indeed take the country forward. Emanating from the priorities outlined in the Statement of Intent, the parties will further refine the GNU’s programme, including through the proposed National Dialogue process.
We remain committed to consensus-building and to the representation of a broad range of interests and viewpoints within government. At the same time, we are all keenly aware that South Africans expect action, implementation and results.
In a robust defence of the first Government of National Unity in 1994, President Nelson Mandela described it as an enduring national consensus “that is neither an imposition of one party over others, nor a honeymoon premised on the fickle whims of a fleeting romance”. The same is true today.

The suspects, identified as Mehluli Nkomo (35), Brendon Dube (28), and Wellington Ndlovu (34), were arrested on June 23, 2024, for attempting to smuggle firearms and Broncleer syrup into the country.
According to the ZRP’s official press statement, the suspects were found with 10 boxed 9mm P.A.K pistols, each equipped with empty magazines, and 100 bottles of 100 ml Broncleer syrup. These items were discovered concealed in a box hidden among 40 reflector vests in a Toyota Quantum vehicle. The vehicle was also towing a trailer containing the deceased body of Kudakwashe Saveka, a South African national.

Fredrick Shava is the minister responsible for the Foreign Affairs ministry that authorised the deal.
Leaked legal documents reveal that Ren-Form CC, the company awarded the tender by ZEC, was a front used by Chivhayo.
Further evidence, including leaked voice notes, suggests that Chivhayo paid bribes to several high-ranking officials to secure and expedite the corrupt contracts.
The implicated officials include ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba, Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary George Guvamatanga, CIO Director-General Isaac Moyo, and Chief Cabinet Secretary Martin Rushwaya.
Chivhayo collaborated with associates Mike Chimombe, Moses Mpofu, and Scott Sakupwanya to siphon millions from the Treasury through inflated invoices.
The scandal unravelled when disagreements arose among the conspirators over the distribution of the stolen funds.

The ministry duly responded five days later, indicating that the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa had identified seven potential suppliers — Asset Protection Africa (Johannesburg); Uni Print (Durban); UV Equip (Midrand); Lithotech (Johannesburg); Forms Media Independent (Johannesburg); Novus Print (Cape Town); and Ren-Form CC, which is based in Johannesburg. After the vetting process, three companies were shortlisted. A team headed by ZEC deputy chairperson Ambassador Rodney Kiwa, which also included Government printing experts from Printflow and Fidelity Printers, as well as a forensic scientist from the Zimbabwe Republic Police, subsequently travelled to South Africa between April 16 and 21 for a due diligence exercise. They also roped in embassy officials. Ren-Form CC emerged the ideal supplier as it reportedly had the ability to provide all the required materials, unlike the two other shortlisted companies. As per procedure, the contract for procurement of the ballot papers and ink was submitted to PRAZ (SPOC) on May 8. Four days later, on May 12, SPOC approved the procurement. The South African company was also awarded a contract to supply tents and solar lights, as its prices were deemed lower, according to a comparative schedule by PRAZ, compared to those from Lobatse Canvas, which had supplied previous tents to ZEC. In the May 12 approval letter to ZEC, PRAZ chief executive officer Mr Clever Ruswa approved the procurement of ballot papers and voting indelible marking pens from Ren-Form CC under Tender Number ZEC/DP18/2023. “At a Special Procurement Oversight Committee meeting number 17 of 2023 held virtually on May 11, it was observed that . . . the accounting officer adopted the direct procurement method in line with Section 33 (2) (c) of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act, which provides for direct procurement where, for reasons of extreme urgency not attributable to and unforeseen by the procuring entity, the procurement requirement cannot be obtained in time by means of competitive bidding procedures, and directly approached Ren-Form CC of South Africa,” wrote Mr Ruswa. “The accounting officer reported that they adopted the direct procurement method . . . because proclamation of the election date is done by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe. “The accounting officer engaged Re-Form of South Africa for negotiations on costs in line with Section 16 (1) (d) of the PPDPA (General) Regulations and was given a discount of US$1 479 243.” After the elaborate process, the elections management body then submitted papers to PRAZ on June 22 for approval, which was granted on June 27. PRAZ resultantly greenlighted the procurement of about 330 tonnes of special paper for the printing of ballots and the indelible ink pens. ZEC also bought 1 000 tents made using canvas material known as Ristop, which is renowned for being extremely tough, as well as 15 000 solar lights. Only $21 million spent Overall, ZEC spent approximately US$21 million on items such as canvas tents, ballot papers, solar lights and indelible ink marking pens for the 2023 harmonised elections. The total amount spent on canvas tents and solar lights was US$3 544 526, while ballot paper and indelible ink was priced at US$4 513 090. A further US$2 432 984 was spent on V11 securing boxes and US$8 964 603 was used to purchase information and communication technology gadgets to beef up ZEC’s digital systems. In an interview with The Sunday Mail, ZEC deputy chief elections officer Mr Simbarashe Tongai said the procurement process strictly adhered to the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act and received full approval from PRAZ. “The total amount that was spent on importing material for the elections including some donations was US$21 148 867. This includes materials like solar lights, tents, ballot papers and display kits for V11 forms,” said Mr Tongai. “For the first time since 2000, all electoral materials were delivered two-and-a-half months before the elections, which eased the downward logistics. “Previously, paper was delivered two weeks or three weeks before the elections. “100 percent of these materials were delivered on time. We have PRAZ clearances for the procurement of the materials.” The latest revelations come amid rumours from social media that ZEC allegedly enlisted local businessmen to corruptly award the tender to the South African company at inflated prices in return for kickbacks. Last week, Ren-Form CC indicated that it had engaged “a senior legal team” to “defend our name and reputation”. In a letter dated June 19 to ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba, Ren-Form CC business development executive Mr Angus Carlaw said: “At Ren-Form, we are outraged by these allegations, and we would like to set the record straight in terms of claims made by the two gentlemen concerned, which have completely no basis. “We confirm that we do not know these gentlemen and have no relationship whatsoever nor any agreement of any sort with these gentlemen relating to ZEC or any other matter.” The company said it does “not rule out taking appropriate action in Zimbabwe”.

Gertrude Ncube, the National HIV Prevention Coordinator in the Ministry of Health, announced the looming crisis at the second quarter HIV Prevention Partnership Forum organized by Safaids in Harare last week. “Donor fatigue for condom funding is a serious concern,” Ncube said. “As a country, we must decide whether to risk the gains made through our condom programming due to a lack of funding. We need to explore how to mobilize domestic funding to support condom procurement.”
Ncube highlighted Zimbabwe’s heavy reliance on partners such as PEPFAR, through USAID, to supply condoms for both the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council and the public sector. “PEPFAR has already informed us that there will be no condom funding from 2026 onward,” she added.
Dr. Tsitsi Apollo, Deputy Director of the HIV and STI Programme, stressed the urgency of finding alternative funding sources, such as Public-Private Partnerships. “What will happen from 2027 and beyond, given the global funding landscape and the allocations to countries?” she asked. “If Zimbabwe attains upper-middle-income status, we are less likely to receive external funding, as the Global Fund allocates resources based on economic status.”
Raymond Yekeye, Director of Programmes at the National AIDS Council (NAC), noted that the AIDS Levy alone is insufficient to meet the council’s requirements.
“The entire HIV response program is at a critical juncture concerning sustainability and funding,” Yekeye stated. “We need to develop a sustainability roadmap for the HIV response. The AIDS Levy currently covers only 25 to 30 percent of our needs, which is why we are considering other financing mechanisms such as the National Health Insurance Scheme.”
The AIDS Levy, introduced by the government in 1999, is a 3% tax on all income, including salaries, pensions, and investment earnings.
Funds collected are directed to the NAC, which is responsible for coordinating Zimbabwe’s multi-sectoral HIV/AIDS programs and initiatives.

By A Correspondent| Businessmen Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe presented themselves at the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission offices by appointment facing questions over alleged money laundering in ZEC election tenders.
They also face charges of misappropriating ZWL$1.6 billion meant for buying goats.
Following a brief appearance, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu left ZACC after attending an interview with their lawyer Tapson Dzvetero.
Dzvetero said “We just presented our clients to ZACC who indicated that they will call us when they need us. My clients are willing to assist with any investigation.”
By A Correspondent| Former Zengeza legislator Job Sikhala reported on social media that officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Law and Order visited his Chitungwiza residence last night in search of him.
The news came to Sikhala through messages from neighbors and friends early this morning.
Sikhala, currently abroad for medical treatment, expressed confusion and concern over the visit.
“Today, I have advised my lawyer Harrison Nkomo to go and inquire from CID Law and Order if they are truly looking for me,” Sikhala stated.
He added that if the authorities are indeed seeking him, he would interrupt his medical treatment to return to Zimbabwe and address the issue.
The former legislator suspects that the visit is connected to his recent address at the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy.
He mentioned that ZANU PF functionaries have been vocal against him following his speech in Geneva, which might have prompted the state agents’ actions.
“What also surprises me is that my absence from Zimbabwe for medicals is known by everyone and wonder why the state agents would go to look for me at my house when they know that I am not in Zimbabwe at the present moment,” Sikhala remarked.
Sikhala assured his followers that he is ready to return to Zimbabwe to clear his name once his lawyer verifies the authorities’ intentions.
“I honestly do not understand their agenda to arrest me, but be reassured that I will be back as soon as my lawyer confirms that they are truly looking for me to clear my name,” he said.

ZACC is actively seeking him in relation to a $40 million elections tender scandal that implicates high-profile government officials, including Chief Secretary to Cabinet Martin Rushwaya, Central Intelligence Organisation Director-General Isaac Moyo, and Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) chair Priscilla Chigumba.
Despite rumors suggesting he was abroad, Chivayo remains in Harare. He is embroiled in a contentious dispute with former business partners Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe, who accuse him of cheating them out of payments related to the deal. To refute a Daily News report claiming he, Mpofu, and Chimombe might be extradited from other countries, Chivayo posted a video from Organikks Restaurant in Borrowdale.

By Political Reporter- The Foreign Affairs ministry has been implicated in a corruption case involving the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and convicted criminal Wicknell Chivhayo.
The scandal centres around a US$9 million tender awarded to Chivhayo for procuring election material ahead of the last August polls.
Fredrick Shava is the Foreign Affairs minister.
The same case has also sucked in the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa, which David Hamadziripi heads.
Leaked legal documents reveal that Ren-Form CC, the company awarded the tender by ZEC, was a front used by Chivhayo.
Further evidence, including leaked voice notes, suggests that Chivhayo paid bribes to several high-ranking officials to secure and expedite the corrupt contracts.
The implicated officials include ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba, Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary George Guvamatanga, CIO Director-General Isaac Moyo, and Chief Cabinet Secretary Martin Rushwaya.
Chivhayo collaborated with associates Mike Chimombe, Moses Mpofu, and Scott Sakupwanya to siphon millions from the Treasury through inflated invoices.
The scandal unravelled when disagreements arose among the conspirators over the distribution of the stolen funds.
In response to the allegations, a public relations article published by state media defended the implicated government officials.
The ZEC stated that it had followed the legally prescribed procurement procedures and engaged all relevant stakeholders through the Special Procurement Oversight Committee (SPOC) and the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) in sourcing electoral materials from South African supplier Ren-Form CC.
However, the same article implicated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa in the corruption case, exposing more government officials involved in the scandal.

Sunday Mail has gathered that the commission actually wrote to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade on February 16, 2023 seeking assistance in identifying potential suppliers through embassies. The ministry duly responded five days later, indicating that the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa had identified seven potential suppliers — Asset Protection Africa (Johannesburg); Uni Print (Durban); UV Equip (Midrand); Lithotech (Johannesburg); Forms Media Independent (Johannesburg); Novus Print (Cape Town); and Ren-Form CC, which is based in Johannesburg. After the vetting process, three companies were shortlisted. A team headed by ZEC deputy chairperson Ambassador Rodney Kiwa, which also included Government printing experts from Printflow and Fidelity Printers, as well as a forensic scientist from the Zimbabwe Republic Police, subsequently travelled to South Africa between April 16 and 21 for a due diligence exercise. They also roped in embassy officials. Ren-Form CC emerged the ideal supplier as it reportedly had the ability to provide all the required materials, unlike the two other shortlisted companies. As per procedure, the contract for procurement of the ballot papers and ink was submitted to PRAZ (SPOC) on May 8. Four days later, on May 12, SPOC approved the procurement. The South African company was also awarded a contract to supply tents and solar lights, as its prices were deemed lower, according to a comparative schedule by PRAZ, compared to those from Lobatse Canvas, which had supplied previous tents to ZEC. In the May 12 approval letter to ZEC, PRAZ chief executive officer Mr Clever Ruswa approved the procurement of ballot papers and voting indelible marking pens from Ren-Form CC under Tender Number ZEC/DP18/2023. “At a Special Procurement Oversight Committee meeting number 17 of 2023 held virtually on May 11, it was observed that . . . the accounting officer adopted the direct procurement method in line with Section 33 (2) (c) of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act, which provides for direct procurement where, for reasons of extreme urgency not attributable to and unforeseen by the procuring entity, the procurement requirement cannot be obtained in time by means of competitive bidding procedures, and directly approached Ren-Form CC of South Africa,” wrote Mr Ruswa. “The accounting officer reported that they adopted the direct procurement method . . . because proclamation of the election date is done by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe. “The accounting officer engaged Re-Form of South Africa for negotiations on costs in line with Section 16 (1) (d) of the PPDPA (General) Regulations and was given a discount of US$1 479 243.” After the elaborate process, the elections management body then submitted papers to PRAZ on June 22 for approval, which was granted on June 27. PRAZ resultantly greenlighted the procurement of about 330 tonnes of special paper for the printing of ballots and the indelible ink pens. ZEC also bought 1 000 tents made using canvas material known as Ristop, which is renowned for being extremely tough, as well as 15 000 solar lights. Only $21 million spent Overall, ZEC spent approximately US$21 million on items such as canvas tents, ballot papers, solar lights and indelible ink marking pens for the 2023 harmonised elections. The total amount spent on canvas tents and solar lights was US$3 544 526, while ballot paper and indelible ink was priced at US$4 513 090. A further US$2 432 984 was spent on V11 securing boxes and US$8 964 603 was used to purchase information and communication technology gadgets to beef up ZEC’s digital systems. In an interview with The Sunday Mail, ZEC deputy chief elections officer Mr Simbarashe Tongai said the procurement process strictly adhered to the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act and received full approval from PRAZ. “The total amount that was spent on importing material for the elections including some donations was US$21 148 867. This includes materials like solar lights, tents, ballot papers and display kits for V11 forms,” said Mr Tongai. “For the first time since 2000, all electoral materials were delivered two-and-a-half months before the elections, which eased the downward logistics. “Previously, paper was delivered two weeks or three weeks before the elections. “100 percent of these materials were delivered on time. We have PRAZ clearances for the procurement of the materials.” The latest revelations come amid rumours from social media that ZEC allegedly enlisted local businessmen to corruptly award the tender to the South African company at inflated prices in return for kickbacks. Last week, Ren-Form CC indicated that it had engaged “a senior legal team” to “defend our name and reputation”. In a letter dated June 19 to ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba, Ren-Form CC business development executive Mr Angus Carlaw said: “At Ren-Form, we are outraged by these allegations, and we would like to set the record straight in terms of claims made by the two gentlemen concerned, which have completely no basis. “We confirm that we do not know these gentlemen and have no relationship whatsoever nor any agreement of any sort with these gentlemen relating to ZEC or any other matter.” The company said it does “not rule out taking appropriate action in Zimbabwe”.
Welshman Ncube, an official of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has acknowledged collaborating with the party’s controversial Secretary General, Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, from the outset.
In a video circulating on social media, Ncube affirms Tshabangu’s status as a bona fide member of CCC.

This second amputation, following the removal of her right arm in 2022, underscores the severe deterioration of her health, which could have been mitigated had she been allowed to seek medical treatment abroad.

By Political Reporter- The Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa has been implicated in a corruption case involving the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and convicted criminal Wicknell Chivhayo.
The scandal centres around a US$9 million tender awarded to Chivhayo for procuring election material ahead of the last August polls.
David Hamadziripi heads the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa.
Leaked legal documents reveal that Ren-Form CC, the company awarded the tender by ZEC, was a front used by Chivhayo.
Further evidence, including leaked voice notes, suggests that Chivhayo paid bribes to several high-ranking officials to secure and expedite the corrupt contracts.
The implicated officials include ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba, CIO Director-General Isaac Moyo, and Chief Cabinet Secretary Martin Rushwaya.
Chivhayo collaborated with associates Mike Chimombe, Moses Mpofu, and Scott Sakupwanya to siphon millions from the Treasury through inflated invoices.
The scandal unravelled when disagreements arose among the conspirators over the distribution of the stolen funds.
In response to the allegations, a public relations article published by state media defended the implicated government officials.
The ZEC stated that it had followed the legally prescribed procurement procedures and engaged all relevant stakeholders through the Special Procurement Oversight Committee (SPOC) and the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) in sourcing electoral materials from South African supplier Ren-Form CC.
However, the same article implicated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa in the corruption case, exposing more government officials involved in the scandal.

Sunday Mail has gathered that the commission actually wrote to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade on February 16, 2023 seeking assistance in identifying potential suppliers through embassies. The ministry duly responded five days later, indicating that the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa had identified seven potential suppliers — Asset Protection Africa (Johannesburg); Uni Print (Durban); UV Equip (Midrand); Lithotech (Johannesburg); Forms Media Independent (Johannesburg); Novus Print (Cape Town); and Ren-Form CC, which is based in Johannesburg. After the vetting process, three companies were shortlisted. A team headed by ZEC deputy chairperson Ambassador Rodney Kiwa, which also included Government printing experts from Printflow and Fidelity Printers, as well as a forensic scientist from the Zimbabwe Republic Police, subsequently travelled to South Africa between April 16 and 21 for a due diligence exercise. They also roped in embassy officials. Ren-Form CC emerged the ideal supplier as it reportedly had the ability to provide all the required materials, unlike the two other shortlisted companies. As per procedure, the contract for procurement of the ballot papers and ink was submitted to PRAZ (SPOC) on May 8. Four days later, on May 12, SPOC approved the procurement. The South African company was also awarded a contract to supply tents and solar lights, as its prices were deemed lower, according to a comparative schedule by PRAZ, compared to those from Lobatse Canvas, which had supplied previous tents to ZEC. In the May 12 approval letter to ZEC, PRAZ chief executive officer Mr Clever Ruswa approved the procurement of ballot papers and voting indelible marking pens from Ren-Form CC under Tender Number ZEC/DP18/2023. “At a Special Procurement Oversight Committee meeting number 17 of 2023 held virtually on May 11, it was observed that . . . the accounting officer adopted the direct procurement method in line with Section 33 (2) (c) of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act, which provides for direct procurement where, for reasons of extreme urgency not attributable to and unforeseen by the procuring entity, the procurement requirement cannot be obtained in time by means of competitive bidding procedures, and directly approached Ren-Form CC of South Africa,” wrote Mr Ruswa. “The accounting officer reported that they adopted the direct procurement method . . . because proclamation of the election date is done by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe. “The accounting officer engaged Re-Form of South Africa for negotiations on costs in line with Section 16 (1) (d) of the PPDPA (General) Regulations and was given a discount of US$1 479 243.” After the elaborate process, the elections management body then submitted papers to PRAZ on June 22 for approval, which was granted on June 27. PRAZ resultantly greenlighted the procurement of about 330 tonnes of special paper for the printing of ballots and the indelible ink pens. ZEC also bought 1 000 tents made using canvas material known as Ristop, which is renowned for being extremely tough, as well as 15 000 solar lights. Only $21 million spent Overall, ZEC spent approximately US$21 million on items such as canvas tents, ballot papers, solar lights and indelible ink marking pens for the 2023 harmonised elections. The total amount spent on canvas tents and solar lights was US$3 544 526, while ballot paper and indelible ink was priced at US$4 513 090. A further US$2 432 984 was spent on V11 securing boxes and US$8 964 603 was used to purchase information and communication technology gadgets to beef up ZEC’s digital systems. In an interview with The Sunday Mail, ZEC deputy chief elections officer Mr Simbarashe Tongai said the procurement process strictly adhered to the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act and received full approval from PRAZ. “The total amount that was spent on importing material for the elections including some donations was US$21 148 867. This includes materials like solar lights, tents, ballot papers and display kits for V11 forms,” said Mr Tongai. “For the first time since 2000, all electoral materials were delivered two-and-a-half months before the elections, which eased the downward logistics. “Previously, paper was delivered two weeks or three weeks before the elections. “100 percent of these materials were delivered on time. We have PRAZ clearances for the procurement of the materials.” The latest revelations come amid rumours from social media that ZEC allegedly enlisted local businessmen to corruptly award the tender to the South African company at inflated prices in return for kickbacks. Last week, Ren-Form CC indicated that it had engaged “a senior legal team” to “defend our name and reputation”. In a letter dated June 19 to ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba, Ren-Form CC business development executive Mr Angus Carlaw said: “At Ren-Form, we are outraged by these allegations, and we would like to set the record straight in terms of claims made by the two gentlemen concerned, which have completely no basis. “We confirm that we do not know these gentlemen and have no relationship whatsoever nor any agreement of any sort with these gentlemen relating to ZEC or any other matter.” The company said it does “not rule out taking appropriate action in Zimbabwe”.
By BBC- An elephant has killed a United States tourist during a safari tour drive in Zambia.
The elephant pulled Juliana Gle Tourneau, 64, from New Mexico, from her parked car and trampled during a safari drive on Wednesday.
The incident occurred near the Maramba Cultural Bridge in Livingstone when her group stopped due to traffic caused by an elephant herd, a police official told the Zambian national broadcaster ZNBC.
This marks the second fatal elephant attack on a US tourist in the southern African country this year.
In March, Gail Mattson, a 79-year-old woman from Minnesota, was killed during a game drive in Zambia’s Kafue National Park.
During that incident, an elephant charged the truck, flipped it over, killed Ms. Mattson, and injured five others.
Rona Wells, Ms. Mattson’s daughter, wrote on Facebook that her mother died in a “tragic accident while on her dream adventure.”
A video of the attack went viral, showing an elephant charging towards the vehicle.
Although none of the vehicle passengers are seen in the video, someone can be heard saying “Oh my goodness” and “It’s coming fast.”
The vehicle then stops, presumably to try to deter the elephant, but the animal hooks its tusk onto the vehicle, causing it to roll several times.
Zambian authorities have called on tourists to exercise extreme caution while observing wildlife in the country.
Zambia’s neighbours, Zimbabwe and Botswana, have also raised concerns about increasing elephant populations in their respective countries, with Zimbabwe recording deadly elephant attacks in recent years.

However , it should be noted that during the UKA rally , our colleagues did not only fail to attract a massive rally , but they failed to explain to the people what solutions they have in case by chance they formed government. Further , our UKA colleagues did not realize that they were talking to miners who have gotten back their jobs in Mopani after ECL sent them into joblessness. They did not realize that they were addressing Kitwe Council retirees who have been paid their dues after the UPND New Dawn Government revamped Mopani mine . They did not realize that they were talking to recruited youths who are now health workers and teachers . They did not realize that they were addressing marketeers who have gotten market booster loans which they never accessed under the PF leadership . We would like to urge our opposition colleagues to tell citizens what solutions they have to loadshedding, and cost of living and not wasting people’s time .
The challenge we have is that we do not have a credible opposition to provide checks and balances with solutions. What we have a jokers and political conmen who had time to run the country but corruptly destroyed the country . Zambians must remain alert remember that we are experiencing few challenges which were caused by ECL and his and the UPND shall address them the same way they have addressed free education and other sectors.

Killer Zivhu, a controversial member of Zanu PF, has expressed doubts about Welshman Ncube’s ability to lead a strong opposition party.
On Wednesday, Welshman Ncube addressed internal conflicts within the Citizens Coalition for Change, a political formation that recently removed founding president Nelson Chamisa’s image from its logo.

The convoy, which entered Zimbabwe via Beitbridge Border Post late Sunday night, was shrouded in mystery as government and military officials provided conflicting explanations for its presence.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the convoy enter Masvingo just after midnight, guarded by Military Police at all intersections along Robert Mugabe Avenue.

Sources within the military hinted that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on high alert, fearing potential civil unrest fueled by allegations of high-level corruption within the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and other public institutions.
The convoy was speculated to be headed towards a Zimbabwean military barracks, possibly carrying military assistance requested from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
However, the narrative took a twist with conflicting statements from officials. A statement from Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri’s office claimed the convoy was part of the Lesotho Defence Forces, traveling through Zimbabwe from Mozambique to Lesotho.
Contradicting this, Zimbabwe National Army spokesperson Colonel Alphios Makotore stated that the Lesotho Defence Forces were actually moving from Lesotho to Mozambique.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba offered yet another explanation, asserting that the convoy was transporting food rations for Zimbabwe National Army drills. “It’s normal for the Military Police to escort such cargo,” Charamba said. “If they were weapons, why would we let them pass through South Africa?”
Charamba also attempted to downplay concerns, emphasising that Zimbabwe has no need to arm itself and attributing recent tensions to misunderstandings involving neighbouring Zambia.
Despite these reassurances, the presence of the convoy has left many Zimbabweans unsettled.
Further complicating the situation, a statement from the International Crisis Group noted that Lesotho and Botswana had withdrawn their troops from Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province in April, contradicting claims that the convoy was related to ongoing SADC military operations.
As speculation mounts and fears of a coup linger, the Zimbabwean public remains on edge, wary of the military’s next move and the potential implications for the nation’s stability.
By Political Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has disclosed new details regarding a scandal in which it allegedly issued a tender to controversial businessman and convicted criminal Wicknell Chivayo to procure election materials for the 23 August 2023 general elections.
According to ZEC, they never engaged the Zanu PF apologist in any tender process.
However, leaked audios and documents suggest otherwise, indicating that Chivayo did receive the tender.
This evidence surfaced following a fallout between Chivayo and his former business partners, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, reportedly over the distribution of millions of USD fraudulently obtained from ZEC through inflated invoices.
Mpofu and Chimombe have accused Chivayo of fraudulently changing their contract with South African company Ren-Form and Better Brands to supply voting material to ZEC, and in the process, pocketing the proceeds of corruption alone.
However, Chivayo has denied the charges, saying Chimombe and Mpofu used advanced Artificial Intelligence to fabricate voice notes purportedly recorded and shared by the former, making it appear as if he self-incriminated.
In a statement issued on Friday evening, ZEC said that it never engaged Chimombe, Mpofu and Chivayo, saying all its procurements were above board.
Reads the statement:
We have noted with great concern social media posts and rumours circulating online, that are causing public alarm and despondency and we would like to put it on record that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has no contract nor did it procure any election material from or through individuals being mentioned in the reports.
All materials procured for the 2023 Harmonised Elections were obtained in line with procurement regulations and therewas due diligence as all tender processes were subjected to oversight.
We challenge all those alleging that the Commission has a contract with the three individuals to come forward and present the same.
We want to also publicly declare that the actual amounts used for the procurement of all the election materials were far less than the figures being mischievously circulated on social media. All election materials procured during the 2023 Harmonised Elections were delivered on time.
The Commission has also checked with the supplier who categorically stated in writing that they did not have any contract with the same individuals for the supply of election materials during the 2023 Harmonised Elections.
Furthermore, there were no third parties between the Commission and all election material suppliers.
Any statements suggesting a contractual link between ZEC and these individuals for the supply of the 2023 Harmonised Elections materials are inaccurate, misleading and mischievous and therefore should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.
The Commission assures all its stakeholders that all procurements were above board.

Chamisa’s response comes in the wake of a 64-page report and audio leaks suggesting illicit activities tied to the 2018 and 2023 elections.
Commenting on Saturday, Chamisa invoked a biblical proverb to underscore his message. He stated:

Nick Donovan, a journalist from The Sentry has trashed the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) press statement where they dismissed claims that they were working with controversial businessmen Wicknell Chivhayo, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu.
Responding the ZEC statement, Donovan said he spoke to Ren-Form whom he said described Chivhayo as their agent.
“For the record, I’ve spoken with Ren-Form whoa) say they did have a contract with, and delivered to, ZEC. b) describe Wicknell Chivayo as their agent, and said yes they paid him,” said Donovan.
