BREAKING: Attorny General Kabesha moves to stop Lungu burial in SA

President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema.

Attorney General launches public interest litigation opposing burial of former President in South Africa.

Zambia’s Attorney General, Mr. Mulilo D. Kabesha SC, has filed a public interest lawsuit in the Gauteng Division of the High Court of South Africa, Pretoria.

The suit is directed against members of the late President’s family and two other individuals, seeking an interim court order to prevent the burial of the late 6th Republican President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

The Attorney General requests that no burial take place until all disputes regarding Dr. Lungu’s final resting place are resolved—specifically, whether he should be interred in Zambia with full military honours, customs, and traditions, as mandated by Zambian law and in keeping with public interest.

In his application, the Attorney General contends that a state funeral for a former Zambian Head of State is a formal public event governed by strict military protocols and intended to honour individuals of national significance.

He further argues that, even if it were true— a point he denies— that the late President wished not to have a state funeral, such personal wishes must yield to the greater public interest.

The Attorney General also cites legal precedent, noting that the Zambian courts previously set aside the burial wishes of the nation’s founding President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, in favour of public interest considerations relating to interment at Embassy Park.

Those named in the lawsuit include former First Lady Esther Nyawa Lungu, Bertha Lungu, Tasila Lungu, Chiyesu Lungu, Dalitso Lungu, Charles Phiri, and Makebi Zulu.

The Attorney General has additionally named Two Mountains Pty (the Morgue), where Dr. Lungu’s remains are currently held, as a respondent.

This action has been brought before the Pretoria High Court under Article 177(5)(c) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia, in the Attorney General’s capacity as government representative and protector of the Zambian public interest.

Hearing of the Interim Interdict Application against the burial is expected to be heard tomorrow, Wednesday 25th June 2025 at 08:00hrs in the morning.- ZNBC

ZRP Responds to Allegations of Ration Theft by Senior Officers

By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has refuted claims that senior officers are stealing food rations meant for junior officers, following a story published in a local daily under the headline “ZRP Bosses Steal Rations: Juniors.”

In a strongly worded press statement, the ZRP emphasized that the Commissioner-General of Police is not aware of any such allegations and is urgently seeking to verify the claims. The police leadership has called on anyone with credible and verifiable information to report directly and confidentially to Police General Headquarters.

“The Commissioner-General of Police is frantically trying to ascertain the veracity of the allegations,” reads the statement signed by Commissioner Nyathi P., Chief Staff Officer for Press and Public Relations. “Anyone with credible and verifiable information is free to personally come to Police General Headquarters and confidentially give the information directly.”

The police also assured the public and its members that adequate safeguards are in place to prevent abuse of the rations facility. According to the statement, all police commanders have been made aware of these measures to ensure transparency and accountability.

The ZRP expressed appreciation for the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of police officers and reiterated that it does not condone any misuse of the support systems provided.

Air Ambulances: Govt Battles Operational Costs, Lack of Pilots

Health and Child Care Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora has revealed that Zimbabwe’s air ambulance service has already saved hundreds of lives, even as the government battles operational challenges, including a lack of local pilots.

Addressing Parliament recently, Mombeshora said the government’s air evacuation programme had airlifted hundreds of critically ill patients to major referral hospitals in Harare and Bulawayo since its launch.

“To date, 345 patients have been flown to the Harare base at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, while 66 patients were evacuated to the Bulawayo base at the United Bulawayo Hospitals,” he said. “These cases have included maternity complications, premature births, and other critical emergencies. Many lives have been saved.”

He added that plans were underway to expand the service by positioning more air ambulances in strategic regional centres such as Victoria Falls, Mutare, and Masvingo.

However, the health minister admitted that a shortage of pilots was hindering full operational capacity.

“There are currently no pilots for the helicopters,” Mombeshora said, highlighting the complexity and expertise required to operate the air ambulances.

“The air ambulance assets—namely the helicopters—are wholly owned by the government of Zimbabwe. Operating these aircraft requires highly technical expertise, including checks by IATA-certified engineering technicians before and after each flight.”

To address the shortfall, the government recently signed a contract with aviation firm Game Drive to provide certified pilots and technical staff. The company will also train Zimbabwean personnel to eventually take over operations from foreign experts, primarily Russian nationals who had been manning the programme.

“The objective is to ensure sustainability and build our own local capacity,” said Mombeshora.

The air ambulance service was introduced as part of broader efforts to improve emergency medical care and reduce preventable deaths, especially in rural and remote parts of the country where ground ambulance services are often limited.

Understanding Heartwater in Livestock

By Dr Trywell Muzerengi

Heartwater, also known as Cowdriosis, is a deadly tick-borne disease caused by the bacteria-like organism Ehrlichia ruminatum. It poses a serious threat to livestock farming, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. The disease is primarily spread by Amblyomma ticks, making tick control essential in managing outbreaks.

  1. Cause (Etiology)

Heartwater is caused by Ehrlichia ruminatum, a microbe transmitted through the bites of infected Amblyomma ticks.

  1. Economic Importance

Heartwater leads to:

Sudden death of valuable livestock

Reduced productivity (milk and meat)

High treatment and prevention costs

Loss of young, future breeding stock

  1. Transmission

Infection occurs when ticks bite and transfer the organism from infected to healthy animals.

Not contagious between animals—only tick-borne.

  1. Animals Affected

Cattle

Goats

Sheep

Occasionally wild ruminants

  1. Clinical Signs

Per-Acute Form (Very Rapid Onset):

Sudden death

Convulsions

Diarrhea

Sub-Acute Form (Gradual Onset):

High, persistent fever

Coughing and respiratory distress

May recover or die within 1–2 weeks

Subclinical Form (Mild or No Symptoms):

Usually occurs in resistant breeds

Mild fever or completely asymptomatic

  1. Postmortem Findings

Fluid accumulation around heart (hydropericardium), lungs (hydrothorax), and abdomen (ascites)

Small internal bleeding in the intestines (petechiae)

Swollen, congested brain tissue

  1. Differential Diagnosis (Diseases with similar symptoms)

Rabies

Tetanus

Poisoning

Meningitis

Babesiosis

East Coast Fever (ECF)

  1. Prevention and Control

Regular tick control: Spraying and dipping are essential.

Quarantine and monitor new or sick animals.

Use tick-free grazing areas where possible.

Early treatment with oxytetracycline can save animals—once nervous symptoms appear, chances of recovery are slim.

⚠️ Final Note:

Heartwater can devastate herds if not detected and treated early. Veterinary involvement is critical to reduce losses. Farmers should maintain strict tick control programs and seek expert help at the first signs of illness.

Harare Primary School Learner Dog Attack Sparks Widespread Anger Across Country

By A Correspondent

HARARE – Outrage is mounting across Zimbabwe following a brutal dog attack on Denzil, a young learner from Marlborough Primary School, who is currently hospitalised with serious injuries.

On Monday the boy was mauled by three aggressive dogs—two Boerboels and a Rottweiler—on his way to school.

The attack has triggered national outrage over public safety and pet owner responsibility.

Former Harare Deputy Mayor Kudzai Kadzombe issued an update confirming that the dogs were removed from the property by the City Council’s Development Control Unit and the SPCA. She stated that the dogs had escaped when their owner was leaving for work.

“The boy was being dragged by the dogs. One of them was biting him on the neck,” said Kadzombe. “He was rescued by people in a passing kombi who saw the horrific scene unfold.”

Denzil was initially rushed to Arundel Hospital before being transferred to Harare Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. He remains in critical condition.

Furious Marlborough residents and concerned parents have slammed both the dog owner and city authorities for negligence.

“This is pure recklessness! How do you leave such dangerous dogs loose in a neighborhood full of children?” fumed Tendai Mlambo, a parent at Marlborough Primary. “If these were your own kids, would this be acceptable?”

Another resident, Mrs. Rudo Chikara, demanded accountability and tougher laws. “We need serious regulations on dangerous breeds. This boy could have died! Someone must answer for this,” she said.

Community members say this is not the first time the dogs have roamed freely, and some allege that complaints had been made previously to no avail.

“This could have been avoided. Authorities were warned, and nothing was done,” said one resident who asked not to be named. “Now a child is fighting for his life.”

Calls are growing louder for the City of Harare and Parliament to implement stricter controls on pet ownership, particularly of aggressive breeds, and to impose legal consequences on negligent owners.

As Denzil continues to recover in hospital, Zimbabweans are demanding justice—not just for him, but to prevent another tragedy.

Opposition PUP Launches National Drive for Inclusive Government Protests

By A Correspondent| The People’s Unity Party (PUP) has commenced its nationwide campaign aimed at preparing Zimbabweans for forthcoming mass protests designed to urge President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa to heed calls for the establishment of an inclusive government.

Speaking to this publication this week, PUP president Mr Herbert Chamuka confirmed that the party’s leadership held a key meeting in Bulawayo last weekend, where provincial leaders overwhelmingly welcomed the initiative and pledged their unwavering support.

“Our meeting in Bulawayo was a great success. The leadership there understands the urgency of the situation and fully supports our call for an inclusive government.

“We must act before the situation deteriorates further. Zimbabweans deserve a leadership that listens, we will not stop until that goal is achieved,” said Chamuka.

The Bulawayo meeting was chaired by PUP national chairperson Thandiwe Mvunhla, who described the gathering as vibrant and inspiring.

Mvunhla told this publication that party supporters were energised by the decision to intensify the campaign for inclusivity.

“Our supporters were more than happy to hear about this development. People are fed up with the hardships they are facing daily.

“They want change, and they are ready to stand with the People’s Unity Party as we demand a government that truly represents everyone, not just a select few,” said Mvunhla.

The PUP is planning to take the same message to other parts of the country, with another meeting scheduled for this coming weekend in Manicaland Province. The Manicaland meeting will be chaired by PUP provincial coordinator Emmanuel Rapozo.

Mr Chamuka stated that the party’s programme is aimed at spreading the call for national unity and inclusivity to every province in Zimbabwe.

He warned that the current state of affairs in the country is no longer bearable for ordinary citizens and risks getting worse if urgent measures are not taken.

“The current situation is no longer pleasing. Prices of basic goods are rising, unemployment is high, and public services are collapsing. If we don’t act now, the suffering will intensify.

“That is why we are taking this campaign to every corner of the country. We want every Zimbabwean to know that together, we can bring about positive change,” said Chamuka.

The PUP’s planned protests, according to the party’s leadership, will be peaceful and in line with the country’s constitutional provisions.

The party says it is determined to ensure that the voice of ordinary Zimbabweans is heard loud and clear by those in power.

Ms Mvunhla further urged citizens to participate in the upcoming demonstrations, stressing that unity is the only way to secure the future of the country.

“We are calling on all peace-loving Zimbabweans to join hands with us in these protests. Together, we can send a clear message that enough is enough. This is about the future of our children and our nation,” she said.

The PUP’s campaign comes at a time when citizens across Zimbabwe continue to grapple with economic hardship, erratic power supplies, water shortages, and widespread discontent over governance issues.

ZIMRA’s Alarming 7.2 Billion Tax Target Angers Suffering Citizens …

By A Correspondent

HARARE – As Zimbabweans continue to battle skyrocketing prices, stagnant wages, and daily economic pressures, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has announced a new revenue collection target of US$7.2 billion for 2025 — a move that has triggered widespread frustration among already overburdened citizens.

In a statement this week, ZIMRA said it will intensify efforts to meet the ambitious target through expanded audits, drone surveillance, automation of customs processes, and digital platforms such as TaRMS and FDMS. The authority is relying on an anticipated 6% economic growth rate to drive compliance.

“The Authority will leverage expanded audit coverage, automation, and digitisation to strengthen compliance and boost collections,” a government source said. “We are optimistic, especially after surpassing our 2024 goal by 10.26%.”

But many Zimbabweans say the move is tone-deaf and ignores the painful realities ordinary people face daily.

“They keep squeezing us, but where do they expect us to get the money?” said one Harare vendor. “We are barely surviving. Taxes keep going up, but we see nothing in return—no clean water, no working clinics, nothing!”

A commuter omnibus driver in the capital added: “ZIMRA wants billions, but from who? We’re living hand to mouth. Instead of chasing the poor, they should be going after the big fish who are looting this country.”

Economists have also warned that while tax compliance is vital for national development, a heavy-handed approach may backfire if it is not accompanied by structural reforms, transparency, and improved public services.

“This strategy risks widening the gap between the tax authority and citizens,” said one independent economist. “Without visible service delivery, people will see taxation as punishment, not civic duty.”

As the 2025 fiscal year looms, Zimbabweans are urging the government to take a more empathetic approach that considers the economic pain many are enduring.

“Before ZIMRA counts its billions, it should first ask: how are the people living?” said one elderly pensioner. “Because right now, we are suffering.”

“Use Dictatorship to Build the Nation” – Zanu PF’s Kazembe Sparks Outrage with Anti-Democracy Remarks

By Tinashe Sambiri

HARARE – Zanu PF heavyweight and Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe has ignited a political firestorm after publicly declaring that democracy “doesn’t work in Africa” and urging President Emmerson Mnangagwa to adopt authoritarian rule to drive development.

In a controversial video circulating widely on social media, Kazembe quotes self-styled pan-Africanist Joshua Maponga, echoing sentiments that democracy is an ineffective governance model on the continent.

“I have got a message for you from one Joshua Maponga. President Sir, use dictatorship to build the nation. Democracy doesn’t work in Africa. Can parents consult their children when they want to have another child? That’s Maponga’s argument and it’s relevant,” Kazembe said, speaking before a visibly supportive Zanu PF audience.

The statement has drawn swift condemnation from democracy advocates and human rights watchdogs who accuse Kazembe of laying the ideological groundwork for authoritarian rule under the guise of “developmental urgency.”

However, Zanu PF loyalists rushed to defend Kazembe’s remarks, arguing that he was calling for strong executive authority to fast-track development—not the suppression of rights.

One supporter wrote in a WhatsApp group: “Pane andipa this video ku WhatsApp hanzi ko makukurudzira dictatorship. Haaaa handizvo.”
Another said, “Kazembe is simply saying we need decisive leadership. If the President wants flats at Mbare demolished and rebuilt in a month, it should be done. Just like what happened at Parirenyatwa Hospital—he visited and change happened overnight.”

Critics, however, point out that efficiency should not come at the expense of accountability, transparency, and public participation—core principles of democratic governance.

They warn that embracing dictatorship under the banner of development is a slippery slope toward entrenched authoritarianism.

Video: Dancehall Star Khonangale Releases New Song Praising Mnangagwa for Constructing Trabablas Interchange

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean dancehall artist Khonangale has released a new freestyle track praising President Emmerson Mnangagwa for the recently opened Trabablas Interchange in Harare. In the video, which has gone viral on social media, Khonangale lauds Mnangagwa’s leadership and calls for him to remain in power until 2030.

“Trabablas yakavakwa, nyika iri kufamba!” he chants, celebrating the controversial infrastructure project as a symbol of progress.

However, the song has sparked backlash from critics who argue that the praise is misplaced. The Trabablas Interchange has been mired in allegations of corruption and cost inflation, with reports that millions of dollars were looted during its construction. Engineers and civil society groups have also questioned the quality and cost-effectiveness of the project.

“Entertainers should be careful not to glorify mediocrity or endorse looting disguised as development,” said one social media commenter.

Despite the controversy, Khonangale’s track is gaining traction among ruling party supporters—another example of how music is increasingly being used as a tool for political messaging in Zimbabwe.

Zvigananda Hijack Zanu PF

By A Correspondent — Controversial businessman and Mnangagwa’s long-time ally, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, is now openly leading a parallel 2030 re-election campaign sidelining veteran party cadres and igniting fresh tensions within the ruling ZANU PF party.

Tagwirei, recently elected into ZANU PF’s Central Committee, will be the Guest of Honor at a high-profile event organised by Young Women 4 Economic Development held at NUST Ceremonial Hall on 25 June 2025.

Branded as part of the Leadership Success Series under the theme “The Land Tenure: Unlocking the Potential of Young People,” the gathering will see the launch of the Vendors 4 ED Presidential Empowerment Fund, a strategic populist move aimed at consolidating Mnangagwa’s grassroots support.

But critics say the event is less about youth empowerment and more about power consolidation by Mnangagwa’s loyalists, infamously referred to as the Zvigananda faction a term now synonymous with sycophants and corrupt praise-singers enabling Mnangagwa’s third-term ambitions.

Joining Tagwirei on the poster and backing the ED2030 project are other prominent Zvigananda figures:

  • Paul Tungwarara – Presidential Investment Advisor (Guest Speaker)
  • Owen Ncube – Minister of State, Bulawayo (Speaker)
  • Munyaradzi Machacha  – ZANU PF National Political Commissar (Speaker)
  • Tinotenda Machakaire – Youth Minister (Speaker)
  • Jabulani Sibanda – ZANU PF Provincial Chair (Speaker)
  • Tatenda Mavetera – Minister of ICT (Speaker)
  • Nyasha Mhonda – National Women Students YW4ED Coordinator
  • Sandra Ndebele – Bulawayo Chairperson YW4ED, Event Host

Analysts say this group carefully chosen for their undivided loyalty to Mnangagwa, forms the nucleus of a political machinery preparing the ground for an ED2030 campaign, a project aimed at extending Mnangagwa’s presidency beyond the constitutional limit of two terms.

Notably absent from both the program and the platform are veterans, military figures, and other long-serving ZANU PF cadres who have grown increasingly uneasy with Tagwirei’s rising political role and the growing cult of personality around Mnangagwa.

The Zvigananda takeover has deepened the party’s succession crisis, particularly irking Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who many believed was next in line after his pivotal role in the 2017 coup that brought Mnangagwa to power.

While Chiwenga remains publicly silent, insiders say he is watching Tagwirei’s manoeuvres with growing unease.

Tagwirei’s recent appointment to the Central Committee, confirmed by party legal affairs secretary Patrick Chinamasa, was facilitated through back channels. Though nominated by Masvingo province, it was Harare Province — closely aligned with Mnangagwa — that cleared a slot for him, signalling how the President’s inner circle is shaping the party’s future trajectory.

Political analysts argue that the resurrection of the ED2030 slogan, once abandoned after public backlash, reflects a deliberate effort to entrench Mnangagwa’s hold on power — and effectively block Chiwenga’s presidential ambitions in 2028.

Meanwhile, the Vendors 4 EDHairdressers 4 EDPastors 4 ED, and even Children of War Veterans 4 ED , all paraded at the NUST event, are increasingly seen not as empowerment vehicles but as political instruments in a broader re-election strategy disguised as youth and women mobilisation.

Mnangagwa Intensifies Manipulation Of Villagers Across Country

By A Correspondent

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government is ramping up the rollout of Village Business Units (VBUs) under the Presidential Rural Development Programme, touting them as transformative solutions to rural poverty.

Yet beneath the surface of this seemingly benevolent initiative lies a growing skepticism that the scheme is less about genuine development and more about political manipulation ahead of future elections.

In Buhera District, Manicaland Province, the Dzenga and Gwevu VBUs are being presented as model success stories. Supported by the Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme—implemented by the shadowy Prevail International—the units claim to offer sustainable water access and the foundation for horticulture-driven income.

“We are in our third cycle now since the establishment of this village business unit last year. We have planted tomatoes among other crops. With tomatoes alone, we are targeting not less than US$4,000,” said Joseph Mapanzure, Treasurer of the Dzenga VBU.

But analysts and rural development experts remain unconvinced. Critics argue that while these initiatives provide a veneer of progress, their implementation is often politically selective, opaque, and designed to entrench ZANU-PF’s dominance in rural areas.

“Development projects in Zimbabwe have often been tied to patronage,” said a political analyst who asked not to be named. “Villagers are presented with these schemes, but access is frequently conditional on political allegiance. It’s a classic soft-power move—development as a loyalty test.”

There is also concern about the role of Prevail International, a private contractor with close ties to government officials, which has been handed responsibility for borehole drilling without transparent procurement processes. Civil society organizations have raised red flags over the lack of accountability and oversight in how public funds and community resources are being used.

While villagers like Mapanzure may genuinely benefit from short-term gains, the broader question is whether these projects are truly sustainable or merely seasonal carrots dangled to secure rural votes.

“The government is showcasing tomatoes in Buhera while the bigger agricultural economy is collapsing,” noted an economist from a local university. “There’s no coherent national strategy—just scattered pockets of controlled success for political messaging.”

Mnangagwa’s administration may continue to exploit rural poverty for political advantage, using superficially beneficial programmes like VBUs to reinforce dependency and mute dissent.

In a nation where real structural reform is desperately needed, cosmetic fixes laced with political intent may only deepen rural marginalization in the long run.

Chapungu FC Head Coach Dies

Sports Correspondent

Tawanda Marimo, the head coach of Chapungu FC and former defender for the same club, has passed away following a short illness.

Marimo, who had a longstanding association with the Gweru-based Air Force of Zimbabwe side, died earlier this week, leaving the local football community in shock and mourning. Known for his commitment to the sport both on and off the pitch, Marimo transitioned from a solid defensive role during his playing days into a leadership position as coach, guiding the team through numerous competitive seasons.

Chapungu FC has yet to issue an official statement, but tributes have already begun to pour in from across the Zimbabwean football fraternity, remembering Marimo as a dedicated mentor, a passionate sportsman, and a respected figure in the country’s football circles.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.

“They Have Violated the Ceasefire”: Israel Vows Retaliation After Iran Launches Missile Strike

By A Correspondent

In a dramatic escalation just hours after a ceasefire was declared, Iran launched a ballistic missile toward Israel early Tuesday morning, prompting outrage from Israeli officials.

“Iran has violated the ceasefire,” said an Israeli government spokesperson, reacting to the early morning attack around 4 a.m. local time. “The Israeli army has been ordered to respond forcefully, according to news agencies,” a Middle Eastern publication reported.

The ceasefire agreement, which had brought cautious optimism across the region, is now under severe strain.

“Peace at last,” one report had declared, as Israel and Iran officially entered into a long-awaited ceasefire. However, that peace was shattered mere hours later when Iran launched its missile strike, undermining the fragile agreement.

Israel’s response is expected to be swift and significant, as regional tensions continue to rise.

Pitbull Owner Denied Bail After Deadly Dog Attack in Bluffhill

By A Correspondent

A Harare man whose “vicious” pitbulls mauled a passer-by to death in Bluffhill has been denied bail.

Mike Mupinga, who is facing a charge of culpable homicide, appeared before magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa on Tuesday. The court handed down its ruling after initially deferring judgment on Monday, citing the need for more time to finalize the decision.

Mupinga is represented by lawyer Steven Chikotora, while the state is being led by prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi.

According to the state, Mupinga owns four aggressive dogs—three pitbulls and a Rottweiler. It is alleged that on May 31, he negligently left the dogs unmuzzled at his rented property in Bluffhill, which is secured only by a low perimeter wall.

“The accused’s vicious dogs scaled over the short perimeter wall and encountered the now deceased, Samuel Machara, who was walking along a nearby street,” said Chonzi.

The dogs reportedly launched a brutal attack, biting Machara all over his body. He later died from deep wounds sustained on his neck, arms, legs, and abdomen.

When police arrived at the scene, one of Mupinga’s white pitbulls was reportedly found with bloodstains on its body.

Mupinga will remain in custody pending further court proceedings.- ZimEye

Monica Mutsvangwa Dares Mnangagwa Over Tagwirei Elevation

By A Correspondent| ZANU PF Deputy Women’s League chairperson and cabinet minister Monica Mutsvangwa has taken a veiled jab at President Emmerson Mnangagwa and controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei, openly criticising the use of money and secret meetings to influence party decisions.

In a fiery address delivered at a recent party meeting, Mutsvangwa warned against “kitchen cabinet politics” and individuals who use wealth to manipulate internal Zanu PF processes.

Her remarks come amid growing discontent within the ruling party following Tagwirei’s surprise appointment to the powerful Central Committee — a move widely seen as engineered by Mnangagwa outside normal party channels.

“We will not accept things that are decided at someone’s home,” said Mutsvangwa in a thinly veiled reference to Mnangagwa’s Precabe Farm, which has reportedly become the President’s unofficial command centre for party and government business.

She also appeared to criticize Tagwirei’s influence in the party, warning against the corrupting power of money in Zanu PF’s affairs.

“Hatidi vanhu vanofunga kuti vanogona kushandisa mari ku divider vanhu, vanhu vanongoda kudiwa zvaitwa na Mai Kuzhanje izvi (We do not want people who think they can use money to divide others,)” Mutsvangwa said. “If money was what kept someone in power, Ian Smith would still be ruling today.”

Tagwirei, a controversial business tycoon often linked to state capture and corruption scandals, was recently elevated to the party’s Central Committee, bypassing traditional grassroots structures. His influence, amplified by vast economic interests and close ties to Mnangagwa, has sparked unrest within Zanu PF’s rank and file.

Mutsvangwa, a seasoned politician and liberation war veteran, reminded her audience that the party’s historical strength came from unity, discipline, and democratic processes — not from wealth or elite backdoor deals.

“We succeeded [during the liberation struggle] because we followed the party’s direction… We accept outcomes from proper processes, but Zanu PF is not someone’s private property,” she added.

Her comments mark a rare but significant public rebuke from within Mnangagwa’s inner circle, exposing deepening cracks over the President’s alleged personalization of power and growing reliance on unelected elites like Tagwirei.

Chinese Nationals Arrested for Illegally Grabbing A Mining Company

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Two Chinese nationals have been dragged to court facing fraud charges for allegedly snatching a mining company after forging documents.

The suspects are Niu Shihao, 54, and Wang Runzhi, aged 57.

They appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, who remanded the two in custody awaiting bail consideration.

The complainant in this case is Kimsum Mining Zimbabwe [Private] Limited, being represented by one of its directors, Xiang Shuangde, a male Chinese adult aged 54.

According to the state, the company is into mining of quartz in Mudzi District at Masarakufa Block of Mines, Mudzi.

Shihao was employed by the complainant in the capacity of a general hand.

Runzhi is his wife.

According to court papers, on 27 February 2025, Xiang Shuangde and Wu Can, both Chinese nationals, formed a company styled Kimsum Mining Zimbabwe [Private] Limited under Zimbabwe company number 4609/23.

The company owned a block of mines in the Masarakufa area, Mudzi.

On formation of the company, the two assumed positions of directors and shareholders, and the company started quartz mining production in Mudzi.

After the formation of the company, accused one was employed by the complainant as a general hand, whose duties, among others, were to organize all the company’s production and operations activities.

“Both the accused persons and the complainant’s representative were residing together at the same address at the material time.

“Sometime in December 2023, the two accused persons hatched a plan to hostilely take over the company from the complainant and took all the company documents in the absence of the complainant, who was in China at the material time, and proceeded to the Company Registry Office and fraudulently added accused one as the third director of Kimsum Mining Zimbabwe [Private] Limited without the board resolution approval of the company directors,” the court heard.

Furthering their criminal act, the two accused connived and registered their company, Newrgy Mining Private Limited, with accused two as the director and another Chinese national.

Armed with the fraudulent documents, the two accused persons then approached the Mashonaland East Provincial Mines Office and fraudulently applied for the transfer of Kimsum Mining Zimbabwe [Private] Limited mining rights to Newrgy Mining [Private] Limited without prior permission and knowledge of the complainant, thereby prejudicing the complainant of his mining rights.

Acting upon the fraudulent misrepresentation by the accused persons, the Mashonaland East Provincial Mines Office cancelled the mining certificate for Kimsum Mining Zimbabwe [Private] Limited and transferred the rights to Newrgy Mining Private Limited.

The complainant later picked up the fraudulent activities by the accused persons and lodged a complaint to the Mashonaland East Provincial Mines Office, and the mining rights were reversed back to Kimsum Mining Zimbabwe [Private] Limited.

The Mashonaland East Provincial Mines Office temporarily suspended operations at the mine pending investigation of the matter.

The complainant later made a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused persons. Subsequent preliminary investigations led to the recovery of forged documents manipulated by the accused persons.

The state said as a result, the complainant suffered prejudice to its reputation and good administration.

ECL to be buried next to Winnie Mandela

Lungu Buried Tomorrow, No Body-viewing, Cameras Restricted

On Wednesday morning, June 25, 2025, the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) and the family of former Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu prepare to conduct a strictly private burial in South Africa. The Zambian government remains notably silent.

Sources close to the arrangement say no public body viewing will take place, and access to photographs will be restricted. Only a small circle is expected to access the body. Among those flown in for the private rites is Archbishop Alick Banda, a long-time clerical ally of the PF during its time in government.
PF Secures Grave for R66,000 Near Winnie Mandela’s Resting Place

The burial plot, reportedly costing 66,000 South African Rands, is located near the grave of South African icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. That detail, while symbolic, underscores the sharp divergence from Zambia’s state burial traditions.

If executed, this will mark the first time in Zambia’s democratic history that a former Head of State is buried outside the country. And crucially, not at Embassy Park, Zambia’s Presidential burial site, where Lungu’s grave remains unoccupied.

No government statement has been issued. Embassy Park has not been declared closed. There is no published burial program, no military parade, no public tribute. Just speculation and screenshots.
The PF’s confidence stems from a South African media statement, issued Monday by Minister of International Relations Ronald Lamola. While widely interpreted as a greenlight for burial, the statement is both respectful and careful.

“A state burial in Zambia represents the most fitting tribute,” Minister Lamola said, while also noting the legal obligation to honor the Lungu family’s private wishes.

No burial location or date is mentioned. No endorsement of a private South African burial is given. The message is diplomatically layered, not an approval slip.

Lungu himself, while in office, barred Hichilema from attending Kenneth Kaunda’s funeral in 2021. The irony is not lost on observers.

Lungu’s family insists on state honors while rejecting the authority of the state.

Zambia has not refused to bury Edgar Lungu.

Inmate Receives Additional Jail Sentence for Drug Dealing While Inside Prison

By A Correspondent | Tiisetso Ngulube, a 56-year-old inmate at Gwanda Prison serving a sentence for assault, has been sentenced to an additional year in prison after being found guilty of drug dealing while incarcerated.

Ngulube is being charged alongside Hloniphani Mkwananzi, 42, who is serving time for illegal gold prospecting, and Etsang Mdlongwa, 30, from Hampden Farm, Gwanda.

The two co-defendants have denied the allegations and are awaiting trial.

They will stand trial on June 27.

The trio was charged with unlawful drug dealing at Gwanda Prisons.

On June 13, 2025, while working in a prison garden, Ngulube and Mkwananzi were searched by prison officers upon returning to their cells. During the search, officers found 19 sachets of dagga (0.07kg) and four 200ml bottles of cane spirit hidden in a bucket belonging to Ngulube.

“They confessed and implicated Etsang Mdlongwa as the supplier. They admitted to trading food items they had received from relatives, 4 packs of 2kg sugar and 3 packs of instant porridge for the dagga,” the court heard.

Police detectives later retrieved from Mdlongwa’s home dagga seeds, the exchanged foodstuffs, 22 bottles of cane spirit, and empty sachets similar to those found with the inmates, with an estimated street value of the dagga being ZIG $1,400.00.

Ngulube pleaded guilty and received a sentence of 12 months in prison.

Mnangagwa Silent on Mushore’s Cause of Death

By A Correspondent — The Zanu PF government has come under scrutiny for failing to disclose the cause of death of Luke Mushore, who was buried at the National Heroes Acre on Monday amid growing doubts about his liberation war credentials.

Mushore, 76, a former Zanu PF chairman for Mashonaland Central Province and former Muzarabani South MP, died on June 13.

His elevation to national hero status was swiftly announced, but unlike previous occasions where the state provides detailed profiles of heroes including their war aliases, camps served, operations participated in, and leadership roles during the armed struggle very little was revealed about Mushore’s role in the liberation war.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in a brief and generalised eulogy delivered in a mix of English and Shona, simply described Mushore as a “reliable cadre” who played a “huge role in the liberation struggle and the Land Reform Programme.”

“Let us therefore never forget that it is through the sacrifices and dedication of the late Cde Mushore and many others that our motherland, Zimbabwe, is an independent country,” said Mnangagwa.
“The late national hero vaiva bango rakasimba rataivimba naro mumusangano weZanu PF, vaisava zinyekenyeke,” he added.

There was, however, a conspicuous absence of detail regarding Mushore’s wartime history, a striking departure from the usual tradition in which the party outlines an honoree’s training, deployments, military rank, and contributions during the liberation struggle.

This omission has fuelled speculation that Mushore’s war credentials may not meet the standards of those declared heroes before him.

The only official reference to his war involvement was a generic statement that he joined the liberation struggle in 1972 and was revered for his “steadfast commitment.”

Post-independence, Mushore is credited with establishing a productive farm in Centenary and supporting land reform initiatives, contributions more closely tied to party loyalty than battlefield achievements.

Analysts have noted that in previous hero announcements, Zanu PF has meticulously detailed the hero’s wartime aliases, the front they operated under, and sometimes even the commanders they served with.

In Mushore’s case, no such detail was provided, raising questions about whether political patronage outweighed historical merit in his elevation.

Adding to the mystery is the government’s refusal to publicly disclose the cause of his death, another break from tradition that has left observers questioning whether there is something being concealed.

Mushore is survived by his wife, Mrs. Chipo Mushore (née Musiwapinda), 21 children, and 61 grandchildren.

What Happens When You Bet on Every Game in a League? I Tried It

Many punters in Kenya enjoy a good football bet. It’s a blend of thrill, hope, and calculated risk. Personally, I’ve always been interested in sports betting – sometimes it even helped me make a decent amount on the side. But, like most things, it wasn’t always smooth. I had both winning streaks and painful losses. What helped me in the long run was knowing when to stop.

That’s why the method I’m sharing today is not for the faint of heart. It’s a high-risk idea: placing a bet on every single match in a league round and only stopping once the entire round is done. If you’re still learning how to bet on football, you might want to skip this and stick to safer strategies. But if you’ve got some experience and discipline, this could be worth a shot. I tried it – and here’s what happened. In the second part of my betting journey, I stumbled upon 1xSlots Egypt, a platform that caught my attention due to its layout and bonus offers. It reminded me that the tools and platforms you choose matter just as much as your strategy.

https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXcvi_1GOagVBE_ixt2sQoLFzy17bXZMbVXAEXS-EtuQUxjHPQdNPA9cOFcTQT8LFNa1xXTphKvJwQh-HqDHuWx5sAgoBS-S4oSeGuXBKRq6JAyRWBoAW1M8k47lfn-70Jzq19k3?key=9iiho1juIn-sUOInvdbmJA

Why This Strategy Is Risky But Interesting

The strategy I’ll explain in this article is quite risky, because you only stop betting when the league ends. Still, if you think of yourself as experienced in this area, it might be worth trying. It worked for me, so maybe it can work for you too. Below, I’ll explain in detail how the strategy works: betting on every single match in a league. Let’s go!

The Experiment: Betting on Every KPL Game

My approach was simple:

  • Place a KSh 200 bet on the Home Win (1) for every game.
  • Then try Double Chance.
  • Track the outcomes and calculate profit or loss.

Key Matches & Outcomes

Well, these were not too famous matches, but that was my choice.

Strategy 1: Home Win

I placed a flat KSh 200 bet on the home team to win each of the nine Kenyan Premier League matches played from May 2 to May 4, 2025. Out of those nine matches, five home teams won, and four failed to deliver (either drawing or losing).

This strategy gave me:

  • 5 winning bets = KSh 1,000 return
  • 4 losing bets = KSh 800 lost
  • Net profit: KSh 200

That’s a slim profit margin of just over 11% on your KSh 1,800 investment. While technically a win, it’s clear this strategy relies heavily on the home side dominating, and in the KPL, home advantage is real but not bulletproof. Draws and upsets remain common, especially when evenly matched mid-table teams meet.

Strategy 2: Double Chance – Best Way to Bet on Football?

Here, I opted for greater security: my bet will win as long as the home team doesn’t lose. They could win or draw; either outcome would keep me in profit. In this particular match week, this strategy almost swept the board.

Of the 9 games, 8 had home teams that either won or drew. Only one home team (Kakamega Homeboyz) lost, and that was a narrow 1-0 defeat to Posta Rangers. Every other home team either secured all three points or held on for a draw.

This strategy gave me:

  • 8 winning bets = KSh 1,600 return
  • 1 losing bet = KSh 200 lost
  • Net profit: KSh 1,400

That’s a much healthier profit of about 78% on my stake of KSh 1,800, which is significantly better than Strategy 1 and involves much less risk. This is an example of how to place a bet on football effectively.

Key Takeaways

I hope I gave you enough theory and practical insight to try this kind of strategy yourself. But be careful – this method can be dangerous if you’re not experienced. This can hardly be called a guide on how to bet on football for beginners. If you do decide to try and succeed, you could gain valuable experience and maybe even hit a jackpot. Just remember the principles of responsible gambling – never stake more than you can afford to lose.

Also, don’t chase losses, although with this strategy that’s hard to do. Instead, come up with a plan and stick to it, no matter the ups and downs.

Be Smart With League Size

If you’re dealing with a league that has many matches, it would be unwise to bet on them all. You can start with just one day’s fixtures, or one week’s worth. It’s your call, just do what makes sense for your budget.

This strategy showed me a lot about risk and control. If you are a beginner, stick to the basics first. Understand the leagues. You can even try AI predictions if you want a data-driven approach.

Use responsible platforms like 1xSlots login where you can manage your bets safely.

Final Thoughts

Betting on every match in a league can be exciting and educational. But it’s not foolproof. Without discipline, you could easily burn through your bankroll. Stick to your limits, avoid emotional bets, and don’t be afraid to try safer options like Double Chance.

If you plan right and think smart, you might just find a strategy that works for you. And if you’re looking for something extra to boost your next bet, check out these betting sites with birthday bonuses – a little free credit can go a long way.

Villagers Face Jail for Not Having Toilets

By A Correspondent-Makoni Rural District Council (RDC) has announced that, starting November 1, 2025, households without standard toilets will face a US$50 fine per inspection, in a bold move to curb open defecation and improve community health.

The district currently grapples with a 47% open defecation rate, a serious public health concern that exposes residents to preventable diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and dysentery.

The enforcement of the fine aligns with Statutory Instrument 228 of 2023, which makes it illegal to occupy a homestead without a functioning toilet.

Makoni RDC Chief Executive Officer Edmore Chidembo told Chipinge Times that the council is activating its environmental health bylaws to address the sanitation crisis.

“We currently have a 47% open defecation rate in Makoni Rural District, which is why we have activated our environmental bylaws. We need to improve sanitation in the district,” said Chidembo.

A public notice signed by Chidembo confirms that the fines will be charged at every inspection conducted by council authorities:

“Effective from the 1st of November 2025, Makoni Rural District Council will fine US$50 (per inspection) to each household without a standard toilet,” it reads.

The move has sparked debate, but health experts support it, saying improved sanitation is essential to preventing the spread of waterborne diseases and promoting dignity in rural communities.

Access to hygienic sanitation is a basic human right and a pillar of sustainable development. Toilets reduce environmental contamination, protect water sources, and promote better health outcomes—especially for children and vulnerable groups.

While enforcement is necessary, development stakeholders urge the council to accompany the fines with public education and support programmes to help low-income households build proper ablution facilities.

Six Die In Honda Fit Tractor-Truck Crash

By Crime and Courts Reporter-Six people have died in a tragic crash near Rusape after a Honda Fit, attempting to overtake a tractor on a blind curve, collided head-on with an oncoming Sino Howo truck.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that the accident occurred at the 142-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mutare highway.

The Accident happened Sunday evening.

All six occupants of the Honda Fit, including the driver and five passengers, died on the spot.

Their bodies were taken to Rusape General Hospital for post-mortem.

According to a ZRP press statement, the driver of the Honda Fit was heading towards Mutare when he tried to overtake a slow-moving tractor on a bend, a dangerous and reckless manoeuvre that cost all lives in the small vehicle.

The crash has reignited concerns over the reckless driving habits often associated with operators of Honda Fit vehicles in Zimbabwe.

Known for being used in unregulated public transport operations and for high-speed, high-risk driving tactics, the Honda Fit has become notorious on Zimbabwean roads.

“This is yet another example of why Honda Fit drivers have earned a bad reputation. Overtaking on a blind curve is not just illegal — it’s deadly,” said a traffic safety expert in Harare, responding to the news.

Police have called on motorists to exercise extreme caution and avoid overtaking when it is not safe to do so.

The names of the victims will be released once their next of kin have been informed.

Thousands Stranded as Qatar Closes Airspace After Iran Strikes US Airbase

By Online Correspondent/ZimEye-Thousands of travellers across Europe and the Middle East were left stranded on Monday evening after Qatar abruptly closed its airspace and suspended all flights in response to Iranian missile strikes on the US Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American military installation in the region.

The closure caused massive disruptions, particularly for passengers with connecting flights through Doha, one of the world’s busiest transit hubs.

More than 100 aircraft bound for the Qatari capital were forced to divert, with some rerouted mid-air. British Airways Flight 109, en route to Dubai, made a dramatic U-turn over Saudi Arabia and eventually landed in Zurich after a nine-hour detour.

Major international carriers, including Singapore Airlines, Air France, Finnair, and British Airways, suspended flights to both Doha and nearby Dubai.

Finnair announced a suspension of its Doha service through June 30 due to “the situation in the region,” while American Airlines, United, and Air Canada had already begun scaling back regional operations days before the strike.

The ripple effects have been global.

Airspace closures in Iran, Iraq, and Israel following the escalation are forcing airlines to adopt longer, more costly routes.

Air France flights, for example, took up to an hour longer as aircraft detour over Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Qatar Airways, which was named the world’s best airline at last week’s Skytrax Awards, confirmed the temporary suspension of its operations. “We are working closely with government stakeholders and the relevant authorities to support any impacted passengers and will resume operations when the airspace reopens,” the airline said in a statement. CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer withdrew from the Skytrax ceremony, citing “operational responsibilities due to the geopolitical situation in the Middle East.”

The chaos followed Iran’s missile retaliation for the US bombing of three suspected nuclear sites in Iran over the weekend using “bunker buster” bombs. Iran’s state media described the strikes as “a mighty and successful response to America’s aggression,” while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian posted on X: “We neither initiated the war nor seek it. But we will not leave an invasion of great Iran unanswered.”

In addition to targeting Al Udeid in Qatar, Iranian missiles also struck the Ain al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq.

The Qatari Defence Ministry said its air defences intercepted the missiles, and no casualties were reported.

Residents in Doha reported seeing missiles and interceptor fire lighting up the sky.

US President Donald Trump was reportedly in the White House Situation Room with his national security team monitoring the developments. He later responded saing that no American citizen was hurt in the “weak” attack.

Diplomatic sources said that the US and several Gulf nations had received advance warning of the strikes.

Analysts warn that further escalation—especially if Iran follows through on threats to close the Strait of Hormuz—could severely disrupt global oil supplies and lead to a surge in fuel prices.

The situation remains fluid and dangerously unpredictable.

Harare Tuck Shop Owners Plead for Government Support After Devastating Fire

By A Correspondent

A wave of despair swept through Downtown Harare on Saturday as a devastating fire tore through a section of the city’s busy informal market area, leaving at least 18 tuck shop owners counting heavy losses.

The blaze, which is suspected to have started in the early hours of the morning, destroyed goods worth thousands of dollars, leaving livelihoods in ashes and families in distress.

The affected shop owners—many of whom rely solely on these small businesses to provide for their households—are now appealing to the government and well-wishers for urgent support to rebuild their lives and restore their means of income.

“I’ve lost everything,” said one tearful vendor. “All the goods I bought last week with borrowed money are gone. I don’t know how I will recover from this.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but early reports suggest that an electrical fault or an unattended heat source could be to blame. The tightly packed shops and lack of fire safety infrastructure in the area exacerbated the damage, with flames quickly spreading from one stall to the next before firefighters could contain the blaze.

In a country already battling economic hardships and high unemployment rates, this tragedy underscores the vulnerability of informal traders who make up a significant portion of Zimbabwe’s urban economy. Many operate without insurance, safety nets, or proper business registration—making recovery an uphill battle.

Community leaders and church organizations have begun mobilizing support, calling on the government to provide emergency relief, financial aid, and long-term recovery plans. There is also growing demand for improved fire safety systems, regular inspections, and safer trading environments.

As the victims grapple with their losses, faith remains a source of strength.

“We believe God will make a way,” said another trader. “But we also need our leaders to stand with us in this moment of crisis. This is our only livelihood.”

ZANU PF Forces Villagers to Join Party Structures Amid Cell Verification Push

By A Correspondent

MASHONALAND WEST – Despite official claims of transparency and order, reports are emerging from Mashonaland West Province that villagers are being coerced into joining ZANU PF party structures under the guise of a nationwide cell verification exercise.

While ZANU PF national leaders have praised the verification campaign as a legitimate effort to modernize and digitize party records, grassroots accounts suggest a different story—one of subtle intimidation and pressure tactics used to compel villagers into membership.

The ongoing process, endorsed by senior party figures including Politburo member Cde James Makamba and Provincial Chairperson Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, has been described as peaceful and productive. Officials insist the high turnout signals strong voluntary support for the ruling party.

However, residents in several districts paint a more troubling picture. Villagers, particularly in rural areas, say they are being urged—sometimes forcefully—to submit their names to local ZANU PF structures, with threats of exclusion from government aid, agricultural inputs, or other public services if they refuse.

“They came to our homesteads saying we must register or risk losing out on food aid,” said one villager who asked to remain anonymous. “Some of us are not even politically active, but we had no choice.”

Political observers argue that the cell verification process, while presented as an internal party matter, is being used to consolidate political control ahead of future elections by artificially inflating party membership through coercion.

“This is a classic case of sanitizing forced affiliation,” said a local civic activist. “Calling it ‘verification’ is misleading when the reality is people are being pushed to align themselves with the ruling party whether they want to or not.”

Despite concerns, ZANU PF maintains that the exercise is part of its efforts to ensure accurate data and active participation in party activities. The process is also reportedly being used to build a digital database of members as the party embraces modern organisational methods.

Critics argue, however, that forced political affiliation undermines democracy and civic freedom, particularly in rural communities where government influence is deeply entrenched.

As the verification drive continues, calls are growing for independent monitoring to ensure that villagers’ rights to political choice are not being violated in the name of party organisation.

Eswatini Woman Fined, Jailed, and Set for Deportation After Illegal Entry into Zimbabwe

Gwanda, Zimbabwe – June 24, 2025

By A Correspondent | A 39-year-old woman from Eswatini, Precious Luphoko, has been convicted by the Gwanda Magistrates’ Court for unlawfully entering and remaining in Zimbabwe without valid travel documents. The court handed down its ruling on June 20, 2025, following a dramatic series of events that began earlier this month.

According to court records, Luphoko was smuggled into Zimbabwe on June 14 through the Beitbridge border post by her boyfriend, believed to be a cross-border truck driver. However, shortly after crossing into the country, she was allegedly abandoned at the Collen Bawn bus terminus.

Stranded and without shelter, she sought refuge at the home of a good Samaritan in the mining town of Colleen Bawn. The next day, June 15, the homeowner escorted her to the local police for assistance, where officers discovered that she had no valid passport, visa, or any other travel authorization.

Luphoko was immediately arrested and charged under Zimbabwean immigration laws.

Magistrates’ Court Judge ordered her to pay a fine of US$150, failure of which she would serve a one-month custodial sentence. She was also issued with a deportation order, with authorities confirming that arrangements are being made to send her back to Eswatini.

The incident highlights the continuing challenges of border security and irregular migration in southern Africa, particularly around the Beitbridge border — a known hotspot for human smuggling and undocumented crossings.

Woman with Three Husbands Sues One for Irresponsibility and Abuse

In a highly unusual domestic dispute that has stunned the Harare Civil Court, a Warren Park woman with three husbands has dragged one of them to court, accusing him of failing to provide for the family and contributing to household chaos.

Ms Sekai Makanya appeared before Magistrate Johanna Mukwesha on Monday, seeking legal recourse against Mr Tapera Mapfumo, whom she accused of financial neglect, verbal abuse, and public humiliation.

“My husband is failing to provide as a man, and when I ask him, he then becomes violent,” Ms Makanya told the court. “We have one child together, and he does not even pay school fees. He expects me to do his duties.”

Makanya said her polyandrous family structure had been openly accepted by all parties, including Mr Mapfumo, who fathered one of her children. She insisted that his refusal to take responsibility was unfair and disruptive to the household’s stability.

“He agreed to this marriage. I cannot ask my other husbands to take care of his child while he is alive,” she told the court. “Instead, he insults me and even follows me to work to embarrass me, telling people I’m a thief.”

She further alleged that Mr Mapfumo had publicly claimed missing goods from her workplace were at his home, tarnishing her reputation.

In a fiery response, Mr Mapfumo dismissed the accusations as “exaggerated” and painted himself as a victim of Makanya’s “abusive and humiliating” conduct.

“She assaulted me in public, called me useless and irresponsible,” he said. “I’m treated like a servant in that house. One day she threw my belongings out — things I bought myself!”

Mapfumo claimed that he does his part in taking care of his child and accused Makanya of trying to force him into financial submission, despite her having two other husbands.

“Makanya likes men too much,” he said bluntly in court. “She cannot expect me to provide for everything alone.”

Despite the bitter exchange, Mapfumo said he was open to resolving the matter through counselling, though he stood firm in denying the abuse allegations.

The court is expected to issue a ruling on the matter later this week.

The case has sparked a storm of public interest, particularly over the rarely publicised phenomenon of polyandry in Zimbabwe, raising complex questions about family law, gender roles, and the evolving nature of modern relationships.

Zimbabwe Could Have Bought Over 15 B2 Bombers With Funds Lost to Tagwirei’s Empire After 2017 Coup

By Farai D Hove | Analysis |

Harare – June 23, 2025

Zimbabwe could have purchased more than 15 state-of-the-art U.S.-manufactured B-2 Spirit stealth bombers with the USD32 billion that vanished through opaque deals involving controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s companies within a year after the November 2017 military coup that removed Robert Mugabe.

The revelation casts a stark light on the scale of looting that followed what was billed as a “military-assisted transition” but quickly turned into a looting spree under the new Emmerson Mnangagwa administration. Instead of stabilizing the economy, billions were siphoned off under murky transactions and command projects awarded to Tagwirei-linked firms.

Missing Billions: A Parliamentary Alarm

In February 2019, then Public Accounts Committee chairperson, opposition legislator Tendai Biti, raised the alarm during a televised session of Parliament, exposing what he described as the “disappearance of unprecedented amounts of public funds.”

“On the 27th of December 2017, one month after the coup, USD2.7 billion suddenly came direct from the Ministry of Finance; where it went is not known. There is neither a voucher for it, nor a single bank statement to account for it,” Biti stated.

Just three months later, in March 2018, another USD3.2 billion was siphoned from state coffers in what Biti described as a “financial black hole.”

“There is no voucher, no invoice, neither is there any paper trail. There is nothing you can put a finger to,” he said.

These amounts, according to Biti and independent audits, formed part of a broader $32 billion hemorrhage from the fiscus by the end of 2018—mostly channelled through companies and banks linked to Tagwirei, who had emerged as the de facto economic tsar post-coup.

What $32 Billion Could Buy: A Military Comparison

For perspective, each B-2 bomber, built by Northrop Grumman, costs approximately USD2.1 billion including maintenance and support costs. With USD32 billion, Zimbabwe could have acquired at least 15 of the world’s most advanced bombers—aircraft so powerful they are only possessed by the United States Air Force due to their unmatched stealth and strike capabilities.

While no sane nation prioritizes such extravagant defense acquisitions in peacetime, the comparison underscores the astronomical scale of the plunder: money enough to revolutionize national infrastructure, fund education for generations, or industrialize the entire SADC region—gone in under 12 months.

Tagwirei’s Empire: No Accountability, No Trail

The bulk of the missing funds were funneled through opaque deals linked to Tagwirei’s Sakunda Holdings and associated shell companies. These included so-called “Command Agriculture” programs, fuel import subsidies, and currency arbitrage schemes enabled by Reserve Bank support.

Investigations by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and the Auditor General were repeatedly blocked, and to date, no single prosecution has been made over the transactions.

Tagwirei has denied any wrongdoing and has not been convicted of any crime. However, he remains on U.S. sanctions lists under the Global Magnitsky Act, cited for “grand corruption, human rights abuses, and the undermining of Zimbabwe’s democratic institutions.”

A Nation Robbed in Broad Daylight

Economists say the plunder had lasting consequences: record inflation, widespread poverty, infrastructure collapse, and a currency in freefall. More importantly, it established a precedent for institutionalized impunity.

“We saw what looked like a liberation celebration become a gold rush for those in power,” said economist Godfrey Kanyenze. “This was not just theft—it was betrayal.”

The figures presented by Biti remain unchallenged in Parliament, with successive finance ministers failing to table documentation accounting for the money.

While some regimes misuse public funds, the Zimbabwe case has entered infamy for the speed and scale at which national wealth was liquidated.

In a single year, Zimbabwe lost the equivalent of 15 B-2 bombers, hundreds of hospitals, thousands of schools, and a decade’s worth of economic development—a post-coup bonanza that history will remember not as liberation, but as legalized looting.

Qatar Closes Airspace After Iran Strikes US Airbase

By Online Correspondent/ZimEye – Qatar has closed its airspace and suspended all flights after Iran launched missile strikes on the US Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American military installation in the Middle East.

The move, announced on Monday, comes amid soaring tensions following the US’s bombing of three suspected Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend using “bunker buster” bombs.

Iran’s retaliatory strikes mark a significant escalation in the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

The Qatari Defence Ministry said its air defence systems intercepted the incoming missiles and confirmed that there were no casualties at the base.

Residents in Doha reported seeing missiles and interceptors streaking across the sky.

Qatar’s Al Udeid base was not the only target, Iranian state media confirmed simultaneous attacks on Ain al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq.

Iranian state television described the operation as “a mighty and successful response to America’s aggression,” accompanied by martial music and patriotic slogans.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, posting on X shortly before the attack, wrote: “We neither initiated the war nor seek it. But we will not leave an invasion of great Iran unanswered.” US President Donald Trump is reportedly in the White House Situation Room with his national security team, closely monitoring developments.

The strikes have caused widespread disruption to global air travel. Qatar’s Hamad International Airport, a major international hub, was forced to ground flights.

Over 100 aircraft bound for Doha were forced to divert, with some rerouted mid-air.

British Airways Flight 109, en route to Dubai, made a dramatic U-turn over Saudi Arabia and landed in Zurich after a nine-hour detour.

Major carriers including Singapore Airlines, Air France, Finnair, and British Airways have suspended flights to Doha and nearby Dubai.

Finnair announced it would halt service to Doha through June 30 due to “the situation in the region.” Meanwhile, American Airlines, United, and Air Canada began reducing regional routes days earlier.

The ripple effects are global. Detours around closed airspace in Israel, Iran, and Iraq are increasing flight durations and fuel costs.

Air France, for example, is taking up to an hour longer per flight as routes shift over Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Qatar Airways confirmed it had temporarily suspended operations, stating: “We are working closely with government stakeholders and the relevant authorities to support any passengers that have been impacted and will resume operations when the airspace reopens.”

The airline, recently named the world’s best at the Skytrax Awards, is facing mounting pressure. CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer withdrew from the awards ceremony, citing “operational responsibilities due to the geopolitical situation in the Middle East.”

Analysts warn that further escalation, particularly if Iran follows through on threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, could disrupt global oil supplies and trigger a surge in prices.

Diplomatic sources told Sky News that the US and Gulf allies received advance warning of Iran’s missile launches.

The situation remains fluid and potentially explosive.

JUST IN: Iran Attacks US Base in Qatar

Qatar– Iran has launched missile strikes on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, prompting the Qatari government to immediately suspend all flights and close its airspace as a precaution.

The Al Udeid base, the largest American military installation in the Middle East, came under fire just days after the US reportedly dropped “bunker buster” bombs on three suspected Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend.

Iran’s retaliatory strike marks a dangerous escalation in the ongoing tensions between Iran, the US, and Israel.

Iranian state television confirmed the attack, describing it as “a mighty and successful response to America’s aggression,” accompanied by martial music and patriotic slogans. In a separate strike, Iranian missiles also targeted the Ain al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq, according to Iraqi security officials.

Qatar’s defence ministry said its air defence systems successfully intercepted the incoming missiles, and there were no casualties reported at Al Udeid. Witnesses in Doha reported seeing missiles and interceptors streaking across the sky.

A US government official confirmed that both the White House and the Pentagon are closely monitoring the situation. President Donald Trump is currently in the White House Situation Room with top security officials.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian posted on social media shortly before the strikes, stating: “We neither initiated the war nor seek it. But we will not leave an invasion of great Iran unanswered.”

Diplomatic sources told Sky News that the US and some Gulf states were given advance warning of the missile launches.

The situation remains fluid.

Schoolboy Mauled by Marauding Dogs, Saved by Kombi Passengers in Harare Suburb

By A Correspondent| Another brutal dog attack in Harare’s Ward 41 has sent shockwaves through the community, just weeks after a fatal incident in the same area. Councillor Kudzai Kadzombe issued an urgent alert to residents, confirming the latest victim — a young boy — was mauled by three domestic dogs while on his way to school.

According to Cllr. Kadzombe, the attack occurred when two Boerboels and a Rottweiler escaped from a property after the owner failed to secure them properly while leaving for work.

The child sustained severe injuries to the throat, back, and abdomen. Fortunately, quick intervention from members of the public — including passengers from a nearby commuter omnibus (kombi) — saved his life.

The boy is currently hospitalized and receiving medical treatment.

“This could have been another tragedy. We are grateful the boy survived, but this incident underlines the urgent need for responsible pet ownership,” said Cllr. Kadzombe.

She emphasized that both this attack and the earlier fatal one involved owned dogs, not strays. In response, she has organized a joint operation with the council development control team and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Beginning next week, all dogs found roaming the streets of Ward 41 will be collected by authorities.

ZRP Hunts Organizers of Alleged S÷x Party in Mutare

By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched an investigation into a viral social media post advertising a controversial “vuzu party” allegedly planned for a private location in Mutare.

According to the police, the post invites members of the public—particularly youths—to participate in the gathering, which is being described as a sex party, with men reportedly required to pay USD 20 for entry.

In a statement released on Monday, the ZRP confirmed that it is actively probing the origins and organizers of the event.

Authorities expressed concern over the potential illegality of the gathering and its implications for public morals and safety.

“The ZRP is investigating circumstances in which a viral social media post is inviting the public to participate in a ‘vuzu’ or sex party in Mutare at a private location with men allegedly paying USD 20 to enter the premise,” the statement read.

“The ZRP warns the organizers that the law will take its course without fear or favour.”

High Flying MWOS Suffer First Defeat Of The Season

Sports Correspondent

MWOS’ unbeaten run came to an end over the weekend as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to a determined Ngezi Platinum side, in what was a top-of-the-table clash.

The result saw Ngezi Platinum leapfrog MWOS to claim the top spot with 35 points — just one ahead of their opponents, who now sit second on the log.

Ngezi Platinum got off to a blistering start, with Obriel Chirinda finding the back of the net in just the second minute of the game. Although MWOS responded in the 22nd minute through Billy Vheremu, the equaliser did little to stem Ngezi’s momentum.

Ashwin Karengesha restored the home side’s lead in the 55th minute, before Chirinda completed his brace in the 73rd minute to seal all three points for Ngezi.

The defeat marks MWOS’ first loss of the campaign, ending their impressive unbeaten streak and adding new intensity to the race for the championship.

Pitbulls Owner to Know Fate Tuesday

By A Correspondent | A Harare man whose “vicious” pitbulls attacked and killed a passer-by in Bluffhill recently will know his fate this Tuesday, when Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa is expected to hand down her bail ruling.

The ruling was initially expected on Monday, but the court indicated that the judgment was not yet ready.

Mike Mupinga is being charged with culpable homicide.

Mupinga is represented by his lawyer, Steven Chikotora, while the state is represented by Rufaro Chonzi.

The state alleges that Mupinga owns four vicious dogs—three pitbulls and a Rottweiler.

It is alleged that on May 31, he negligently left his dogs unmuzzled at his rented house in Bluffhill.

The house is secured by a low security wall.

“The accused’s vicious dogs scaled over the short perimeter wall and met the now deceased Samuel Machara, who was walking along the nearby street.

“The dogs bit the now deceased all over the body,” said the prosecutor.

Machara succumbed to deep wounds on his neck, hands, legs, and stomach.

Mupinga’s white pitbull was found with bloodstains when the police visited the scene.-ZimEye

Chaminuka Slams Referee as Dynamos-FC Platinum Clash Ends in Chaos

Sports Correspondent

Dynamos coach Saul Chaminuka has launched a scathing attack on referee Qedisani Dirwai following the abandonment of their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 17 fixture against FC Platinum on Sunday.

The high-stakes match, held at Mandava Stadium, was called off in the 75th minute after Dynamos players walked off the pitch in protest over a controversial penalty decision. Referee Dirwai awarded a spot kick to FC Platinum after ruling that Dynamos captain Emmanuel Jalai had fouled Oscar Bhebhe in the penalty area.

With the score level at 1-1, the decision sparked outrage from the Dynamos camp. Players refused to resume play, forcing the match to be abandoned.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, an irate Chaminuka accused the referee of bias and called for accountability in local officiating.

“Referees are cheating, and we cannot continue playing week after week when they keep giving away matches like this,” Chaminuka told NewsDay.

“They are not fair at all. Coaches are sick because of how they handle matches, yet they face no consequences. If that penalty had been taken, they would have escaped scrutiny. At least the match commissioner has something to report. Let’s see what the match commissioner says about this game.”

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has since released a brief statement, saying it is awaiting full reports from match officials before taking any action regarding the incident.

The league could now face a disciplinary dilemma, as the fallout from this abandoned fixture may influence not only the result but also the title race in the 2024/25 campaign.

Deadly Tick-Borne Disease Alert: Understanding Heartwater in Livestock

By Dr Trywell Muzerengi

Heartwater, also known as Cowdriosis, is a deadly tick-borne disease caused by the bacteria-like organism Ehrlichia ruminatum. It poses a serious threat to livestock farming, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. The disease is primarily spread by Amblyomma ticks, making tick control essential in managing outbreaks.

1. Cause (Etiology)

Heartwater is caused by Ehrlichia ruminatum, a microbe transmitted through the bites of infected Amblyomma ticks.

2. Economic Importance

Heartwater leads to:

Sudden death of valuable livestock

Reduced productivity (milk and meat)

High treatment and prevention costs

Loss of young, future breeding stock

3. Transmission

Infection occurs when ticks bite and transfer the organism from infected to healthy animals.

Not contagious between animals—only tick-borne.

4. Animals Affected

Cattle

Goats

Sheep

Occasionally wild ruminants

5. Clinical Signs

Per-Acute Form (Very Rapid Onset):

Sudden death

Convulsions

Diarrhea

Sub-Acute Form (Gradual Onset):

High, persistent fever

Coughing and respiratory distress

May recover or die within 1–2 weeks

Subclinical Form (Mild or No Symptoms):

Usually occurs in resistant breeds

Mild fever or completely asymptomatic

6. Postmortem Findings

Fluid accumulation around heart (hydropericardium), lungs (hydrothorax), and abdomen (ascites)

Small internal bleeding in the intestines (petechiae)

Swollen, congested brain tissue

7. Differential Diagnosis (Diseases with similar symptoms)

Rabies

Tetanus

Poisoning

Meningitis

Babesiosis

East Coast Fever (ECF)

Zanu PF Is Unstoppable, Declares Tatenda Mavetera

By Tinashe Sambiri

ICT Minister and Young Women 4ED leader Tatenda Mavetera has boldly proclaimed that the ruling Zanu PF party is an unstoppable political force, reaffirming her loyalty to the party and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mavetera, who is also the Member of Parliament for Chikomba West Constituency, made the remarks during a weekend event in Mutare, where she attended victory celebrations for President Mnangagwa.

“Yesterday I was in Manicaland, Chimanimani West at our President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s victory celebrations hosted by Young Women For Economic Development Provincial Chairman Manicaland Hon Kudhlande,” said Mavetera.

In a post shared after the event, she extended congratulations to the President and the party for their 2023 election win, expressing confidence in Zanu PF’s continued dominance.

“We appreciate and continue to congratulate our President and ZANU PF for winning resoundingly the last elections. ZANU PF will win again and again. Happy Sunday,” Mavetera declared.

Her comments come amid ongoing political discourse surrounding the credibility of Zimbabwe’s electoral processes and the future of the country’s democratic landscape.

Masvingo Council Destroys Smuggled Chickens

Masvingo City Council last Friday destroyed 1, 6 tonnes of chicken which entered the country illegally, a council spokesperson has said.

The consignment which was destined for Harare was intercepted 30km from Masvingo near Mushagashe Training Center along Masvingo-Harare Road.

According to the council spokesperson, the meat had no veterinary clearances and documentation and was therefore deemed unsafe for human consumption. The chicken was burnt at Cambria Landfill under strict supervision.

Huge chicken chunks coming from South Africa believed to be GMOS and much cheaper than local meat is popular with local restaurants, backyard food outlets and fast-food chains.

“The truck was not refrigerated. The meat was hard frozen and wrapped in plastics. The packaging, transportation and labelling violate the Food Standards Act and we don’t know what the meat was exposed to,” said a source.

The action was taken in line with the Public Health Act.

“Council urges residents and vendors to only source meat from licensed and inspected suppliers to ensure community safety and prevent the spread of diseases,” said Ashleigh Jinjika.

Zivhu Urges Chamisa To Delay Political Comeback – Wisdom Or Sedation?

Tinashe Sambiri – Controversial ZANU PF politician Killer Zivhu has raised eyebrows after advising opposition leader Nelson Chamisa to delay his political return — in what some critics see as either strategic wisdom or a subtle attempt to politically sedate the youthful former presidential candidate.

Zivhu, known for his unpredictable commentary and previous sympathies toward opposition causes, took to social media over the weekend with what appeared to be friendly advice aimed at Chamisa.

“Delaying your return might be strategic, brother,” Zivhu wrote. “Wait till your generation’s competing with you or those who weren’t in the struggle are running mates. Coming back now might mean getting dissolved quickly like glucose.”

The message, wrapped in metaphor and brotherly tone, has sparked debate: is Zivhu offering genuine guidance from a seasoned political observer, or attempting to lull Chamisa into political inactivity while ZANU PF consolidates its grip?

Observers note that Chamisa’s absence from mainstream opposition politics since forming his Blue Movement has created a vacuum — one that Zivhu’s remarks could be seeking to extend.

“Timing is everything in politics,” Zivhu added. “Sometimes rushing back too soon makes you an easy target — a political snack.”

But not everyone is convinced of Zivhu’s sincerity.

“This could be classic ZANU PF double-speak,” one political analyst said. “Tell your opponent to stay quiet while you tighten your own control. It’s a chess move, not advice.”

Zivhu has a history of walking a tightrope between defiance and allegiance. He was expelled from ZANU PF in 2020 for allegedly sympathising with opposition figures and calling for political dialogue — only to later express support for the ruling party again.

As Chamisa continues to play his cards close to the chest, Zivhu’s advice — seemingly warm but strategically loaded — leaves the opposition leader with much to consider. Whether Chamisa takes the bait, or sees through it, could shape the political terrain in the months ahead.

Malema Slams Clueless Old Leaders, Says It’s Time For Young People To Lead

By Tinashe Sambiri

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has once again taken aim at what he calls “clueless old leaders,” urging Africa’s youth to rise and take charge of the continent’s future.

Speaking over the weekend at the funeral service of EFF members under the June 16 Battalion, Malema emphasized the urgent need for generational leadership change across Africa.

“The time has come for the youth to lead. We cannot continue to be governed by clueless old leaders who have no vision for the future,” said Malema.

He praised young revolutionary figures like Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré as examples of bold, youth-driven leadership that the continent desperately needs.

“The EFF calls on the youth of South Africa and the continent to follow in the footsteps of young revolutionaries like Ibrahim Traoré by rising, organising, and building a future where Africa is free from exploitation, free from foreign control, and free from leaders who serve only themselves,” he said.

Malema’s remarks were delivered with passion as he honoured the deceased EFF members, reaffirming his party’s commitment to fighting for economic justice and self-determination.

The firebrand leader’s message reinforced a growing sentiment among many young Africans who feel disillusioned by the continent’s aging political elite and their failure to deliver real change.

Advocate Nelson Chamisa Ready For Massive Return

By Tinashe Sambiri

Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has confirmed his return to frontline politics, affirming his continued commitment to Zimbabweans who still believe in his leadership and vision for democratic change.

In an interview with The Standard Newspaper recently, Chamisa dismissed suggestions that he had abandoned the political struggle, saying his decision to take a sabbatical was tactical, not a retreat.

“Over two million Zimbabweans have shown their consistent trust and support, and I appreciate that,” Chamisa said. “I will never betray these great Zimbabweans.”

The youthful opposition leader also took aim at ZANU PF’s plans to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term beyond 2028 — a controversial resolution adopted at the ruling party’s Annual National People’s Conference in October 2024.

“The whole 2030 nonsense is a desperate attempt to avoid the people, and a desperate attempt to avoid the elections,” Chamisa said. “It is an attempt to create a window for further destroying an otherwise beautiful country.”

The proposed extension has since received backing from several senior ZANU PF officials who argue that Mnangagwa must be given time to complete Vision 2030 and Zimbabwe’s development agenda.

Chamisa, however, remains critical of what he sees as creeping authoritarianism. Reflecting on his departure from the CCC, which was later taken over by political unknown Sengezo Tshabangu, Chamisa clarified that leaving the party did not mean abandoning the struggle.

“Leaving the CCC is different from leaving the people of Zimbabwe whom I so deeply respect and value,” he told The Standard. “I left the old vehicle only because ZANU PF had captured and compromised it.”

He added: “As a matter of principle, leaving the old vehicle was necessary because people now know who is and who isn’t. It’s now so clear who is with the people and who is not. The old vehicle had, by manipulation, become a creation and poodle of ZANU PF.”

Chamisa had launched the CCC in January 2022 after breaking away from the MDC Alliance amid leadership disputes. However, the CCC later fell into turmoil after Tshabangu claimed to be the interim secretary-general, triggering controversial recalls of party MPs and handing ZANU PF a two-thirds parliamentary majority through successive by-elections.

Tshabangu has since publicly endorsed Mnangagwa’s third-term bid, further fuelling claims that he is a ZANU PF proxy — accusations he continues to deny.

Meanwhile, Chamisa’s return has reignited debate about his leadership style. Political analyst Pedzisai Ruhanya offered a scathing critique, indirectly accusing Chamisa of abandoning political battles instead of confronting them head-on.

“If a thief or robber comes to your house and you are there with your family, what would you do?” Ruhanya wrote on X. “(a) run away and leave the family (b) stand up and fight the maggot (c) accuse the neighbor, flee and start another family. Suppose the thief keeps on following you, what next!!”

As Chamisa prepares for what he describes as a “massive return,” the political stakes are rising. While critics question his pattern of starting over, his supporters argue that his latest move is a necessary reset in a toxic and compromised political environment.

Fake Bulawayo Medical Doctor, Nyasha Gwazemba Resurfaces In UK Scamming Job Seekers COS Money

Nyasha Gwazemba

By Dorrothy Moyo | London, UK – June 23, 2025 – Nyasha William Gwazemba, a Zimbabwean fraudster previously arrested in Bulawayo for posing as a doctor and running a visa scam, has reportedly relocated to the United Kingdom, where he is now targeting vulnerable job seekers with a new Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) fraud scheme.

Gwazemba, who gained notoriety in 2022 for duping dozens of Zimbabweans with promises of UK work visas, is allegedly at it again. A recent victim, a Zimbabwean family, claims Gwazemba swindled them out of £700 sent to a UK account and US$1,700 transferred to his mother in Zimbabwe. The payments were made under the false promise that Gwazemba would secure a CoS, a legal requirement for non-UK residents to work in the country, for the family’s daughter.

This latest scam echoes Gwazemba’s 2022 exploits in Zimbabwe, where he posed as a UK-based doctor and charged victims up to US$600 for fake visa services. One complainant lost US$500, leading to a sting operation that resulted in Gwazemba’s arrest at a Gwabalanda fuel station. Despite boasting of police connections and avoiding conviction at the time, evidence of bank transfers linked to his account has now resurfaced, pointing to a continued pattern of deceit.

When confronted with the allegations, Gwazemba initially denied knowing the victim, stating, “I don’t know that person.” However, when presented with proof of the bank transfer, he abruptly ended the call and has since ignored further attempts to reach him.

The UK’s Home Office has issued warnings about fraudulent visa schemes, urging the public to use only licensed sponsors and official government channels for visa applications. “Individuals offering Certificates of Sponsorship or guaranteed jobs are often scammers exploiting desperate people,” a Home Office spokesperson said. “We encourage victims to report such crimes immediately.”

Zimbabwean communities in the UK have expressed outrage, with many calling for authorities to investigate whether Gwazemba is operating alone or as part of a larger syndicate. The scam has struck a nerve, particularly among Zimbabweans seeking better opportunities abroad amid ongoing economic challenges at home.

Victims of Gwazemba’s alleged fraud are urged to contact UK authorities or report to Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud and cybercrime reporting center, at www.actionfraud.police.uk. Zimbabwean authorities have also renewed calls for citizens to verify recruitment offers through accredited agencies and avoid unofficial intermediaries.

This case underscores the growing issue of visa fraud targeting vulnerable job seekers, with criminals like Gwazemba exploiting dreams of a better life. UK and Zimbabwean authorities are under pressure to collaborate and bring such perpetrators to justice.

RBZ Claims ZiG Will Be Zimbabwe’s “Dominant” Currency Soon…

By A Correspondent

HARARE – The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) claims that its gold-backed structured currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), is rapidly gaining traction—now reportedly accounting for 43 percent of all transactions processed through the National Payment System as of May 30, up from 26 percent in April.

RBZ Governor Dr. John Mushayavanhu hailed the rise as a sign of growing public trust and macroeconomic stability, asserting that “an increasing number of economic agents are now keeping ZiG in their bank accounts for relatively longer periods.”

“The prevailing macroeconomic stability has improved ZiG’s demand for transactions and saving purposes,” Mushayavanhu told State media. “This trend clearly reflects increased confidence in the local currency.”

Yet, despite the central bank’s optimism, many Zimbabweans remain unconvinced. While the RBZ points to rising transactional volumes, some analysts and citizens argue that the figures reflect policy pressure and limited currency alternatives—rather than genuine faith in ZiG.

“The so-called dominance of ZiG may be more about necessity than choice,” said an independent economist who spoke on condition of anonymity. “With tight controls on U.S. dollars and a lack of alternatives, people are transacting in ZiG because they have to—not because they want to.”

In informal markets and among small traders, the U.S. dollar still reigns supreme. “We accept ZiG, but most of us prefer the U.S. dollar,” said Tawanda, a Mbare vendor. “ZiG’s value keeps changing, and not all shops accept it for everything.”

Even as President Emmerson Mnangagwa toured RBZ vaults last week to showcase rising gold reserves—now reportedly at 3,400kg, up from 1,500kg last year—many citizens view the move as more symbolic than substantive. The central bank aims to hit 5 tonnes of gold by year-end to back ZiG, but questions remain about transparency and long-term sustainability.

The RBZ insists that it is expanding access to physical ZiG cash amid rising demand, particularly in rural areas. “Banks are currently in the process of configuring their systems to facilitate cash disbursement through ATMs,” Mushayavanhu said, adding that the cash rollout would not cause inflation or inject excess liquidity.

However, practical access remains limited. Long queues persist at banking halls, and many ATMs remain non-operational or limited to urban centers. The central bank’s assurance that “ZiG cash has consistently been accessible at all banks” has been disputed by customers on the ground.

“ZiG is not yet widely available where it matters most—in rural shops and among small traders,” said a financial services consultant. “We’re still far from a point where the public genuinely prefers it over the dollar.”

As the RBZ presses forward with its digitisation agenda and cash-lite policy, the real test of ZiG’s acceptance may lie not in statistics but in sentiment. For now, the central bank claims dominance—but many Zimbabweans are still waiting to see if ZiG is more than just another rebranded currency experiment.

Harare Battles Alarming Surge in STIs Amid Public Health Strain

By A Correspondent| Harare facing a growing public health crisis following a sharp rise in sexually transmitted infections (STIs), with over 25,000 new cases recorded so far in 2024, according to alarming new data released by the National AIDS Council (NAC).

Speaking at a community outreach event in Hopley last Friday, NAC Harare provincial manager, Mr Adonijah Muzondiona, revealed that 25,457 new STI cases have been documented this year alone, including 7,523 repeat infections. The figures signal a deepening health concern that experts say is being fuelled by persistent risky sexual behaviours, low condom use, and inadequate public awareness—particularly in informal settlements.

“The numbers are worrying. We’re seeing more people, particularly those aged 40–49, being diagnosed, and women are disproportionately affected,” said Mr Muzondiona.

The age groups 40–44 and 45–49 years recorded the highest infection rates, with 3,927 and 3,229 cases respectively. Among women aged 45–49 alone, a staggering 1,844 new cases were reported, underscoring how the epidemic is hitting older demographics that are often overlooked in sexual health campaigns.

Despite achieving significant milestones in the fight against HIV—meeting the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets for epidemic control—Harare is now confronted with a fresh challenge: a growing STI burden that threatens to reverse progress if not urgently addressed.

“While we’ve made commendable strides in controlling HIV, the STI data tells us we’re missing key segments in prevention, especially around education and behaviour change,” Mr Muzondiona added.

Experts say Harare’s high population mobility, driven by informal trade and unstable housing in areas like Hopley, contributes to the rapid spread of STIs. Vulnerable groups—such as adolescent girls, young women, sex workers, and informal traders—are at the centre of the crisis, prompting NAC to sharpen its focus on targeted, data-driven interventions.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Harare Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Charles Tawengwa, permanent secretary Mr Cosmas Chiringa acknowledged the serious funding gaps confronting the health sector.

“While the National AIDS Trust Fund has been a lifeline, we must continue to innovate and mobilise domestic resources if we are to meet the scale of the challenge,” said Mr Chiringa.

He also emphasised the need to identify and support children born with HIV, calling for strengthened prevention of mother-to-child transmission services.

In response to the surge, NAC is expanding community-focused programmes like Sista2Sista, Brotha2Brotha, and the DREAMS initiative, which empower vulnerable populations with knowledge, mentorship, and easier access to STI and HIV services.

“These platforms are critical in breaking down stigma, improving service uptake and changing harmful cultural norms,” said Mr Muzondiona.

NAC is also moving towards integrated health service delivery, combining STI prevention with HIV testing, counselling, and screening for non-communicable diseases to ensure holistic care.

However, the rising number of repeat infections reveals persistent gaps in treatment adherence, follow-up care, and community engagement—calling for sustained public awareness campaigns and expanded outreach efforts.

Musarara Caught in Crosshairs of Zanu PF Power Struggles in Mash Central

By A Correspondent| The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) Chairperson, Tafadzwa Musarara, who is also Zanu PF District Coordinating Committee (DCC) chairperson for Mazowe has found himself at the centre of a deepening factional battle within the ruling party, with insiders suggesting he is being targeted as part of a broader plot orchestrated by Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe to eliminate political rivals ahead of a potential leadership shake-up.

A letter seen by ZimEye from the Zanu PF provincial disciplinary committee accuses Musarara of absenteeism, sneaking out of meetings without notice, and failing to supervise ongoing cell restructuring exercises.

The letter, signed by disciplinary chairperson Christopher Magomo, summons Musarara to a hearing at the party’s provincial headquarters in Bindura.

However, sources within the party say the charges are politically motivated and designed to neutralize Musarara’s influence ahead of anticipated internal party elections.

Musarara is reportedly a victim of an intensifying turf war, with Kazembe Kazembe—his long-time rival—allegedly driving the push to suspend or expel him.

Speculation is growing that President Emmerson Mnangagwa might not pursue a third term, despite earlier signs suggesting otherwise. If the President abides by the constitutional two-term limit, the 2028 elections would necessitate fresh internal contests to determine Zanu PF’s new presidential candidate—potentially opening the floodgates for power-hungry factions within the party to begin jostling for positions now.

Musarara, in his written response to the disciplinary charges, questioned the validity and clarity of the accusations. He also requested evidence to support claims that he left meetings prematurely, indirectly casting doubt on the legitimacy of the process.

Party insiders allege that Kazembe has gone as far as deploying police officers to monitor Musarara’s movements, an indication of the high stakes involved.

Efforts to get a comment from Kazembe were unsuccessful.

3 Zimbabweans Arrested for Defrauding Indians in Fake Investment Scam

In a major crackdown on transnational fraud, police in Mohali have arrested three Zimbabwean nationals accused of swindling several residents of Kolkata through a bogus investment scheme promising high returns.

The trio—identified as Tinashe Gadjikwoa Preyse, Malvern Matumgamire, and Namhunga Lennon Kudakoashe—allegedly lured victims by falsely claiming ties to global organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and Abbott Pharmaceuticals, according to Kolkata Police officials.

Using forged letterheads, fake email addresses, and manipulated WhatsApp groups, the suspects allegedly ran an elaborate scam that came to light after a resident of Tollygunge filed a complaint, stating he lost Rs 1 crore (approximately USD 120,000) to the scheme.

During their arrest, police recovered six mobile phones, a laptop, and several incriminating documents believed to have been used in the fraud. The suspects have since been produced before a Mohali court and granted transit remand, paving the way for further legal proceedings in Kolkata.

By A Correspondent – Vice President Constantino Chiwenga made a bold political statement Monday morning when he arrived at the National Heroes Acre wearing a plain black scarf, a stark departure from the Zimbabwean flag-themed scarf that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has turned into his personal trademark since the 2017 coup.

Mnangagwa’s signature scarf, now synonymous with his rule, has been widely adopted by ministers, Zanu PF officials, and supporters who use it as a symbol of loyalty and supposed patriotism.

Critics argue the scarf has been weaponised to extort businesses, silence dissent, and project allegiance to the Mnangagwa faction of the ruling party.

Chiwenga’s choice to wear a neutral black scarf, at a high-profile state event, has been interpreted as a subtle but deliberate snub of Mnangagwa’s political branding.

Coming amid persistent rumours of deepening factional tensions within Zanu PF, the move is likely to fuel speculation about a looming leadership rift ahead of the party’s next elective congress.

President Mnangagwa will this morning preside over the burial of liberation war veteran Luke Mushore, known by his Chimurenga name Joboringo, at the national shrine.

Mushore, who joined the liberation struggle in 1972, was declared a national hero last Friday after his death on June 13.

The cause of death has not been made public.

3 Areas Your Business Needs to be Compliant

Small to medium businesses make up a significant proportion of all businesses worldwide.

Current estimates indicate that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for approximately 90% of all businesses globally, a figure that remains consistent across various countries, and they contribute to approximately 90% of global employment. However, small businesses face numerous challenges in the current economic climate. The reality is that the current business landscape isn’t set up to help small businesses thrive.

One area that appears to favor larger and more significant businesses over smaller ones is compliance. There are multiple areas of business that require compliance, and these can vary from sector to sector, industry to industry, and even country to country. However, as a business owner, understanding and managing compliance is within your control. You need to do your due diligence to understand exactly where you need to be compliant, what is expected of you, and what you need to put in place to ensure that you meet all relevant legislation and regulations, therefore operating legally.

With this in mind, what part of your business do you need to focus on to ensure that you are fully compliant at all times?

Tax

In the UK, small businesses are required to comply with various tax laws. These include income tax, VAT, and corporation tax. However, in Zimbabwe, you will need to pay income tax, value-added tax and withholding taxes, meaning that you must ensure you are up-to-date on your income expenditures and all accounts and records at all times and that you file all your tax returns on time as well.

For small businesses, however, paying for an accountant can be quite costly. However, mtd software can assist you in making all your tax payments and records digitally, allowing you to see exactly what you need to pay when you need to pay it, ensuring that you meet your legal requirements regardless of your country of operation or the type of business you run.

Data Protection

There are many strict protection laws around the world. For example, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe has strict rules on the type of data that businesses can collect, store, and use. It’s crucial to ensure that you are meeting all data protection guidelines for all the countries in which you operate your businesses, which may be accessed. Failure to follow data protection rules is a serious offense and can result in consequences ranging from minor to substantial fines and even imprisonment in severe cases. This highlights the importance of adhering to regulations.

Employment Law

Many countries have complex sets of employment laws that govern the treatment of employees. For multinational companies, it’s crucial to seek expert advice and guidance to understand the different rules and regulations pertaining to your employees in each country. These laws can range from pay and conditions to discrimination, whistle-blowing, and much more. For example, some countries, such as the UK, have minimum wage and overtime laws as well as anti-discrimination and workplace safety laws.

While in America, the federal laws include the Fair Labor Standards Act, which covers minimum wage and overtime, the Civil Rights Act for non-discrimination, and the Americans with Disabilities Act for individuals with disability.

It’s really important that you understand exactly what areas of compliance you need to meet and put measures in place ot do just this.

Harare Battles Surge in STI Cases

By Health Reporter-The National AIDS Council (NAC) has raised alarm over a surge in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Harare, with 25,457 new cases recorded so far in 2024, including 7,523 repeat infections.

Speaking in Hopley last Friday, NAC provincial manager Adonijah Muzondiona highlighted that the hardest-hit groups are adults aged 40–49, with women disproportionately affected. Among 45–49-year-olds alone, women accounted for 1,844 cases.

Muzondiona attributed the rise to risky sexual behaviour, low condom use, and limited awareness, especially in informal settlements and among mobile populations. Despite Harare meeting UNAIDS 95-95-95 HIV targets, the spike in STIs points to persistent gaps in sexual health education and service delivery.

Efforts to curb the rise include data-driven interventions targeting adolescents, sex workers, young women, and informal business communities. Programmes like Sista2Sista, Brotha2Brotha, and DREAMS are being used to encourage testing and break down cultural barriers to healthcare.

Representing Harare Provincial Affairs Minister Charles Tawengwa, permanent secretary Cosmas Chiringa stressed the need for increased domestic funding. “While the AIDS Trust Fund is in place, more innovation and investment are needed,” he said.

Despite resilience in STI and HIV programme funding, Muzondiona warned resources remain inadequate. “We must sustain our gains and scale up prevention and treatment services, particularly for vulnerable groups,” he said.

NAC is urging communities, stakeholders and individuals to promote safe sex, reduce stigma and increase healthcare access as part of a collective response to the growing STI crisis.

When to Cash Out in Aviator: Timing Tips for Better Results on 1Win

https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXcGa9Jozn-MtQjFgPs2vqfvnWkpPxLBpX1vLVFineg2M8OXoxVIYTQJY1wAKgRtJt9V4htklDZU5TP03poRc3zoGz-ggKWpWZlDDsM1xOCY1_7bcLTIwDb8smPoaDvD1Cd_a7g9Iw?key=DaaJ6GQrMSteU6ZsE_dn3Q

Cashing out is one aspect of the betting experience that practically every player looks forward to. After all, it signals that your bet was successful, and you can withdraw your cash. Interestingly, in most traditional betting formats, you can delay your cash out until the end of the event, without much consequence.

However, the Aviator crash game works with a completely different set of rules. In this popular predictive game, timing your cash out is everything. The blink of an eye could mean the difference between profit and loss or between winning big and losing everything in the game.

That’s why knowing when to cash out is a must-have strategy for players, especially in casinos like 1Win, where the game is extremely fast-paced. In this article, we break down some timing tips that can help you cash out in the nick of time while playing Aviator 1Win. This article also outlines the game’s format and highlights common mistakes to avoid.

Quick Refresher: How It Works

Aviator is a popular crash-style game where everybody starts out winning, but the longer you wait, the bigger your reward and the higher the risk. Once you hit play, the plane begins to rise, and as it climbs higher, the multiplier value increases. The point the plane reaches when you cash out determines your winnings from the game. However, if the plan crashes before you cash out, you lose the bet.

Immediately, the plane takes off, and the multiplier value begins to increase. This means that players get a low payout but a higher success rate here than in most other casino options. Punters with a higher risk appetite can take a chance and let the plane soar for bigger rewards.

The best part is that anyone can verify that the results of every round of this game are random because it uses a provably fair algorithm.

Aviator Cash Out Advice: Strategies That Actually Work

https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXfXdDoegQQriS_U267NQBiSssyqQqyy8cM9OmBxhwvwUVs6DKlYWL4IrYHXC_mA4TIQ3FQ7Ax7B7DZ8xsA30LpIWtB9WaNs6fOnu8Ej9NgODxhBCgngdwgEu7YAxMSrHhLPdK37?key=DaaJ6GQrMSteU6ZsE_dn3Q

Punters enjoy the thrill of the fast-paced and rewarding playing style. But aside from the fun, you can boost your winnings from the game if you play your games with a smart strategy. Every result is random, but a good 1Win betting strategy can put the odds back in your favor.

Low-Multiplier Strategy (1.50x – 1.80x)

Many experienced punters opt for this strategy because it has a higher chance of success. The trick here is to continuously cash out bets at low multipliers. With this technique, the reward on each round will be consistently low, but it is the safest bet because bets below 1.80x are unlikely to lose.

Mid-Multiplier Strategy (2.00x – 3.00x)

If you are looking for more excitement than low payouts can offer, this is the strategy for you. Here, the risk and reward system is balanced; you play with a little more risk for a bigger payout. This strategy is ideal for punters who can remain calm and hit the cashout button when they should, without getting jittery.

High-Risk/High Reward (5.00x+)

This strategy is reserved for players who are willing to risk losing money for the chance to win big while playing. Luck and calmness are crucial when using this strategy, as players can easily lose money in consecutive rounds. To play it safe, skilled players use small bets when using a risky strategy like this one.

Using Auto Cash-out on 1Win

We can have the best strategies, but as human beings, we are still moved by emotions, so a lot of punters don’t stick to their plan, especially when the stakes are high. However, 1Win lets players execute their strategies with its auto cashout feature.

Why It Helps

Instead of being moved by greed or fear and cutting your losses too early or staying in the game too late and losing money unnecessarily, this automated cashout feature can handle it for you. In addition, if you are playing with a 1Win betting strategy like the low multiplier technique, you need consistency in many games to get the best from the technique, and auto-cashout is perfect for that.

Smart Targets:

The perfect target to go for depends on your budget and playing style, but this simple breakdown should help you know how to set up your auto bets:

  • Safe: 1.60x
  • Balanced: 2.00x
  • Aggressive: 3.50x+

Ultimate Aviator Timing Strategies: Analyzing Patterns and Multipliers

Fast-paced games like this are played against the clock, and punters who know how to win on Aviator online should game the system can secure the best payouts. Even though the results of each round are provably random, if you look at the data well enough, you’d observe trends that can make the odds tilt towards you.

For instance, statistics show that the safest time to make the safe cashout in Aviator is between 1.2x and 2x multipliers. This is why punters who use the low multiplier strategy have a higher success rate, because the plane is more likely to crash outside this range than within it.

Also, if you are playing for big rewards, you can play multiple games, as even though most of them will result in losses, a big win occurs approximately 10% of the time. If you are interested in wins as high as 10x, the odds also drop to about 5% of rounds.

When to Wait and When to Quit

Even though the outcome of the games is random, as a player, you can’t afford to place random bets and leave the game to chance. With every bet you place, observe the trend to improve your chances in the next round. There is no strict mathematical pattern to this strategy; instead, it involves simply following your instincts and making bold yet smart bets.

For example, when a streak of low multipliers occurs, many players believe that a big multiplier is due. Since the game randomly shoots out low and high multipliers, it will have to generate a high multiplier after a streak of low ones. The real problem for most players is knowing when the streak of low multipliers will come to an end.

Similarly, after a big payout, punters expect the multipliers in subsequent rounds to be low, and often they are. However, it is essential to recognize that these techniques are largely based on hunches that could easily be incorrect. But when you’re playing with luck, the best time to cash out is when your gut tells you to “Take the profit”. Also, set your limits and know when to stop because players who stay in because others are winning often end up losing a lot of money.

Avoid These Cash-Out Mistakes

Playing this game is a lot of fun, but players who lose control often end up hating the game because once you lose money, you can’t get it back. However, you can avoid making some costly mistakes while gambling by looking out for the common errors that people typically make.

  • Chasing a 10x for too long:  Punters who spend too much time playing for a big win can lose a lot of money before they get that big break. As a player, you have to be ready to cut your losses and stop playing when it is necessary.
  • Ignoring auto cash-out: The auto cash-out feature can save you from making a lot of mistakes and emotional decisions when playing. Additionally, since this is a time-based game, manually handling this feature is too risky for players who can’t remain calm while the game is in progress.
  • Increasing bet size after a loss: Before any game starts, experienced players typically have a strategy in mind that they enter the game with. This technique also requires the players to have a budget that they are limited to. Playing like this helps ensure that the player remains disciplined while gaming.
  • Playing while emotional or distracted: Gambling involves real money, so it should always be done with a clear and calm head. Simple mistakes like doubling down and losing more money after a bet can be avoided by closing the game whenever you are not in the right headspace to play.

Bonus: Dual-Bet Cash-Out Strategy

Instead of playing with one bet, you can increase your chances of Aviator winning moments  with a flexible two-bet technique. The trick here is to place two bets and let one make a small profit to make up for a potential loss on the other, while the other one shoots for a bigger win.

The first bet will be placed with an auto cash-out restriction that would be placed in a safe region. On the other hand, the second bet can be set to manual or with a high auto cash-out limit. Since the first bet is a safe bet, a win on that end would reduce the money lost on the second bet if it doesn’t come through.

Also, if you are interested in other popular betting experiences, don’t miss this overview of the most popular bets on Supabets in South Africa.

Whenever the bigger bet hits, the punter gets a big payout. However, the risk here is that even though the first bet is a safe bet, it isn’t 100% guaranteed.

Final Tips for 1Win Players

Gambling can be a lot of fun, but it should only be enjoyed when done responsibly. Players should keep this in mind when playing fast-paced games like this one, as emotional bets can result in significant losses in a matter of seconds. In addition, playing with a plan also makes you more likely to leave the casino with more money than you came in with.

  • Start every round of the game with a plan. Just like football needs tactics, this game demands that you have a plan. First, create a budget for your spending and set a time limit for your gaming sessions. If you want to improve your chances of winning, also pick a strategy and stick with it till you’re done playing.
  • Observe the results of every game:  Pay attention in every game and see what works for you and what doesn’t.
  • Find the perfect bonus offer for you: Check out all the bonus offers that casinos put forward. Not all offers will fit your playing style, so you have to experiment and find the best one for you.
  • Play without pressure or emotions: The only way to do this perfectly is to bet with money you can afford to lose. If you gamble with borrowed money, you will be on edge while playing and end up making bad decisions.

Concluding Remarks: Timing in Aviator

https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXfXdDoegQQriS_U267NQBiSssyqQqyy8cM9OmBxhwvwUVs6DKlYWL4IrYHXC_mA4TIQ3FQ7Ax7B7DZ8xsA30LpIWtB9WaNs6fOnu8Ej9NgODxhBCgngdwgEu7YAxMSrHhLPdK37?key=DaaJ6GQrMSteU6ZsE_dn3Q

In Aviator, timing is everything. No matter how big or small your bankroll is, what matters is that you know when to stay in the game and the moments to cash out. You don’t need some huge Aviator best multiplier to walk away with big winnings; you just need consistent, well-timed decisions.

Tagwirei Undermines Chiwenga

By A Correspondent-The recent elevation of controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei into ZANU PF’s Central Committee has reignited tensions in the ruling party’s simmering succession war, particularly provoking Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is widely believed to harbour ambitions to succeed President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Tagwirei, long regarded as Mnangagwa’s frontman and a major benefactor of the ruling elite, revived the polarising ED2030 slogan at a ZANU PF meeting in Harare last week.

The slogan, which had faded from use, is associated with hardline Mnangagwa loyalists seeking to extend his stay inoffice beyond the constitutionally mandated limit of two terms, effectively blocking Chiwenga’s path to the presidency in 2028.

Tagwirei now joins a growing list of Mnangagwa-aligned figures — including Christopher Mutsvangwa, Jabulani Sibanda, Mabel Chinomona, Tatenda Mavetera, July Moyo, and Owen Ncube — who have publicly pushed narratives seen as undermining the Vice President.

Despite the provocations, Chiwenga has maintained a calculated silence, a tactic he has used since tensions with Mnangagwa became public after the 2017 military-assisted coup.

The 2017 coup, which ended Robert Mugabe’s 37-year rule, brought Mnangagwa to power with Chiwenga’s military backing.

It was widely expected that Mnangagwa would serve a transitional role and eventually hand over power to Chiwenga.

However, cracks emerged soon after, with Mnangagwa consolidating power and systematically sidelining his former military allies.

Since 2018, the rivalry has intensified, albeit covertly.

Mnangagwa has promoted civilians loyal to him into key security and political positions while purging or demoting those aligned with Chiwenga.

The return of ED2030 is seen by analysts as a calculated move to test public sentiment and party loyalty ahead of the 2026 ZANU PF Congress, where succession could be formally contested.

Tagwirei’s recent co-option into the party’s highest decision-making body outside of Congress was confirmed by legal affairs secretary Patrick Chinamasa, who described the businessman as “a dormant but committed ZANU PF cadre.”

Although the initial recommendation for Tagwireyi came from Masvingo province, it was Harare that ultimately made room for him in the 300-member committee — a gesture many see as orchestrated by Mnangagwa’s inner circle.

“Your co-option into the Central Committee is a breath of fresh air,” said Chinamasa. “You will certainly be impactful toZANU PF’s political fortunes in Harare and other urban settings.”

Tagwirei’s rise from behind-the-scenes financier to visible political actor signals a new phase in ZANU PF’s succession dynamics.

Long operating in the shadows through his sprawling business empire and opaque dealings with state institutions, his formal entry into politics is seen as a direct challenge to Chiwenga’s claim to the throne.

Chinamasa warned that Tagwirei should prepare for backlash from “malcontents” seeking to “tarnish his reputation,” a thinly veiled reference to internal critics — possibly including military-aligned figures who remain loyal to Chiwenga.

Three Zimbabweans Arrested in India for US$127,000 Cyber Fraud

By A Correspondent –Three Zimbabwean nationals have been arrested in India for allegedly masterminding a sophisticated cyber fraud operation that defrauded a senior pharmaceutical executive of over ₹1.1 crore (approximately US$127,000).

The suspects, Tinashe Gadzikwa Praise (22), Malvern Matumgamire (25), and Nyamhunga Lenon Kudakwashe (23), were apprehended in a dramatic early morning raid in Kharar, a township in Mohali, Punjab. The arrests followed a cross-country manhunt led by Kolkata Police’s cyber crime unit, in collaboration with local Punjab authorities.

According to The Times of India, the trio allegedly posed as representatives of a reputed UK pharmaceutical company and the World Health Organization (WHO) to perpetrate the scam.

Their scheme targeted 53-year-old Sandip Guha, a senior executive based in New Town, Kolkata. Investigators say the con revolved around the kola nut — a tropical fruit commonly used in pharmaceutical treatments for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

The accused reportedly lured Guha into a bogus international trading deal, promising high returns from the importation of kola nuts from India. To lend credibility to their claims, the fraudsters sent forged documents and emails, used UK-based WhatsApp numbers, and even arranged small kola nut deliveries to build trust.

Guha, convinced by the operation’s apparent legitimacy, transferred a total of ₹1,10,41,250 through multiple RTGS transactions to various Indian bank accounts.

After realising he had been duped, Guha filed a complaint in May, prompting a swift investigation. Cybercrime officers traced the suspects’ digital footprint to Mohali, where the arrests were made on Saturday.

“The accused had rented a flat in the Golf Link area of Mohali,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime & Traffic) Rupesh Kumar. “We recovered six mobile phones, one laptop, and several forged documents and bank papers from the scene.”

The suspects are expected to be transferred to Kolkata on a transit remand for further interrogation. Authorities say they are investigating possible links to a wider international fraud network.

“This case is significant as it exposes a transnational cybercrime ring operating from Indian soil,” an officer said, adding that additional arrests may follow as investigations continue.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to cyber fraud, impersonation, and criminal conspiracy.

Veteran State Media Journalist Graduates with a PhD

By A Correspondent-One of Zimbabwe’s most senior and respected journalists, Limukani Ncube, has graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of South Africa (Unisa), marking a significant milestone in both his personal journey and the broader media profession.

Ncube, a former Sunday News editor with 27 years of experience in journalism, received his PhD last week under the College of Human Sciences at Unisa’s Pretoria campus.

His academic achievement comes at a time when a growing number of Zimbabwean journalists are pursuing postgraduate studies to deepen their knowledge, enhance leadership capacity, and contribute to the intellectual development of the profession.

His doctoral thesis, titled Unmasking the Intersection Between Economy and Media: A Case of Digital Journalism in Zimbabwe, explores one of the most urgent and globally relevant topics in the media landscape — the impact of digital disruption on journalism.

Grounded in the critical political economy of the media and industrial organisational theory, Ncube’s study examines how economic forces and technological change are reshaping newsroom practices and the sociology of news production in Zimbabwe.

He argues that contemporary journalism is no longer threatened by the scarcity of information, but by an overflow of content and the rise of disruptive technologies that are fundamentally transforming how news is produced, distributed, and consumed.

In response, he calls for journalism to be reimagined — with a renewed focus on innovation, adaptability, and responsiveness to audience needs in the digital age.

Currently serving as one of Zimpapers’ top newsroom managers and chief content officers, Ncube is at the forefront of efforts to steer the media conglomerate through a period of intense transformation.

Zimpapers, which owns The HeraldThe ChronicleThe Sunday MailThe Sunday NewsKwayedzaUmthunywaManica Post, ZTN television, and radio stations such as Star FM and Capitalk — is undertaking a major reconfiguration of its operations.

This includes shifting to new digital workflows, embracing multimedia platforms, and finding sustainable monetisationmodels.

As Ncube’s research reveals, Zimbabwe’s media sector is grappling with a dual crisis, the country’s prolonged economic instability and the relentless pace of technological disruption.

His academic work not only diagnoses these challenges but offers insights into how newsrooms can evolve and remain relevant in a rapidly changing environment.

Ncube’s transition from newsroom veteran to scholar exemplifies a broader trend in Zimbabwean journalism, where professionals are increasingly turning to academia to enrich their practice, deepen critical analysis, and contribute to shaping the future of the media in the country and beyond.

Fake Goods Expose Rot in Mnangagwa’s Trade Controls

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwe’s market is being swamped by counterfeit and substandard products, exposing deep flaws in the government’s efforts to regulate imports and protect consumers. The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) has voiced serious concerns over the continued failure of the Consignment-Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA) programme, which was meant to safeguard local markets from low-quality goods.

Speaking at a recent stakeholder workshop, CZI officials warned that fake and mispriced imports are slipping through the country’s porous borders despite the presence of the CBCA system, introduced in 2015 to certify imports at their source.

“As the private sector, we supported CBCA to protect our markets,” the CZI said. “But the system is clearly falling short—non-compliant products continue to flood in.”

The CBCA requires pre-shipment inspection of selected goods to ensure they meet Zimbabwean safety and quality standards. While the intention is to protect consumers and encourage fair competition, the business sector says the system is increasingly burdensome—and ineffective.

CZI pointed out that formal businesses are bearing the brunt of compliance, while informal traders sidestep the system entirely. Inspection delays, once expected to last just 3 to 5 days, now stretch up to three weeks, disrupting supply chains and driving up operational costs.

“The CBCA framework unfairly targets formal importers,” CZI said. “Meanwhile, the informal sector continues to thrive, importing uncertified goods that undercut legitimate products.”

The problem is compounded by the unwillingness of some international suppliers, particularly from China and Europe, to cooperate with the certification requirements. This forces Zimbabwean companies to seek alternative suppliers—often at higher cost—worsening the country’s competitiveness and putting pressure on consumer prices.

“Ultimately, the cost of compliance is passed on to the consumer,” CZI added. “The system risks becoming a channel for corruption instead of a tool for quality assurance.”

In response, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce acknowledged the shortcomings and pledged to work with industry players to refine the CBCA system. Officials emphasized that the programme remains central to Zimbabwe’s Industrial Reconstruction and Growth Plan, and that ongoing reforms—including those introduced through Statutory Instrument 35 of 2024—aim to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

“We’re not here to impose policies, but to listen,” a ministry representative said. “We are committed to continuous review and improvement, with feedback from all stakeholders.”

The ministry also announced plans to pursue ISO 9001 certification, signalling a broader commitment to aligning Zimbabwe’s quality control systems with international best practices.

As fake goods continue to flood the market and cripple legitimate industry, many are questioning whether the CBCA programme is a failed experiment—and whether the Mnangagwa administration has the will or capacity to clean up its broken trade enforcement systems.

Government Orders Schools To Accept ZiG Transactions

By Tinashe Sambiri

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerai Moyo has issued a stern warning to schools that are refusing to accept the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) as a form of payment for school fees, declaring that such defiance will not be tolerated under the country’s official multi-currency system.

Speaking in Harare last week while addressing Junior Parliamentarians, Moyo urged the young leaders to expose schools engaging in this practice, promising immediate action.

“Why are schools out there rejecting the ZiG currency as payment for fees?” Moyo asked. “Give us the names of such schools. We want to deal with them. We are in a multi-currency system, and ZiG is legal tender in this country.”

Moyo emphasised that no school has the authority to reject the local currency, adding that the government has made it clear that both ZiG and other approved currencies are to be accepted in all transactions.

“Any school refusing to accept ZiG is operating outside the law,” he said. “It is the responsibility of every institution, especially those in education, to uphold national policy.”

The ZiG, introduced by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in April 2024 to replace the Zimbabwean dollar (ZWL), is backed by the country’s gold and foreign currency reserves. Despite this, some schools and service providers have continued to demand payment exclusively in U.S. dollars, frustrating parents and guardians who receive income in local currency.

Minister Moyo reaffirmed that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will not hesitate to take disciplinary measures against any non-compliant school.

“We will take action,” he said. “No one is above the law.”

His remarks come amid growing public concern over the inconsistency in how currencies are being accepted across the education sector, with some parents accusing schools of discriminating against low-income families who cannot access U.S. dollars.

Moyo concluded by urging the Junior Parliamentarians to play their part in holding institutions accountable:
“You are the voice of the students—help us make sure no learner is turned away simply because their parents paid in ZiG.”

My Wife Stole from Me To Enrich Her Ex Hubby

What began as a quiet domestic dispute in the high-density suburb of Dzivarasekwa has exploded into a sensational courtroom drama—after a heartbroken husband accused his wife of secretly stealing from their household to fund the life of her ex-husband. Stanford Marutsa stood before a Harare magistrate to reveal how his wife, Daisy Masembura, allegedly used his hard-earned money to support another man—while their own children went without.

Harare – June 23, 2025

By A Correspondent | A Dzivarasekwa man, Stanford Marutsa, has dragged his wife, Daisy Masembura, to the Harare Civil Court, accusing her of stealing from him to financially support her former husband and his family.

Appearing before magistrate Ms Johanna Mukwesha, Marutsa claimed that Masembura took US$1,500 from him without consent and used the money to buy a tombstone for her ex-husband’s late brother. He told the court that he discovered the transaction after reading messages on his wife’s phone, including one from her ex-husband’s mother thanking her for the tombstone purchase.

“I took my responsibilities as a husband seriously, only to find out that I was working hard to support another man’s family,” said Marutsa. “Our own children are suffering while she sends her ex’s cousins to school and sells household property to support him.”

He also alleged that he had been stalked by unknown individuals, which he suspects is linked to his wife’s actions. He further claimed that rumours of Masembura’s alleged infidelity had begun circulating in their community.

In her defence, Masembura denied the allegations, describing them as “baseless and hurtful.” She maintained that her relationship with her husband was built on trust and challenged him to provide concrete evidence to back his accusations.

“I’m shocked and saddened by these accusations. I would never destroy my marriage,” Masembura told the court.

After hearing submissions from both parties, the court ruled in favour of Marutsa, granting him a protection order against Masembura. Magistrate Mukwesha also warned Masembura against economically abusing her husband.

The ruling brings to light a rare case of alleged economic abuse within a marriage, underscoring the complexities of trust and financial accountability in domestic relationships.

Tafadzwa “Detective Kedha” Chidawa Convicted of Kidnapping Harare Businesswoman

Harare – 23 June 2025

By Showbiz Reporter | Controversial former police officer and self-styled detective Tafadzwa Chidawa, popularly known as “Detective Kedha” or “Boss Kedha,” has been convicted of kidnapping in a case that has reignited public debate over his vigilante-style crime-busting activities and chequered past.

Harare magistrate Tapiwa Banda last week found Chidawa guilty of kidnapping Shallom Gandiya, a director at Jaimy Technologies, following a botched private investigation that turned into an unlawful abduction. Chidawa was fined US$200 for the offence, while being acquitted on charges of assault, impersonation, and cyberbullying.

According to State prosecutor Dzidzai Josiah, the incident occurred on March 5, 2024, when Chidawa—working alongside a group that included Gandiya’s boyfriend Lazarus James—forced her into a car and held her captive for five hours. She was shuttled around the city before being dumped at Harare Central Police Station, where Chidawa attempted to legitimise the abduction by presenting a fraudulent crime reference number from ZRP Gweru. The fake reference number was quickly exposed by police investigators, prompting Gandiya to file a formal complaint.

LIVE-STREAMED VIGILANTISM

Chidawa’s conviction comes less than a year after he was filmed live on Facebook executing a similarly dramatic and unlawful operation, this time targeting socialite Patricia Jack. The incident, which occurred in May 2024, saw Chidawa and a group that included musician and comedienne Mai TT scale a durawall at a private lodge in Harare under the pretext of effecting a “citizen’s arrest.” The group falsely claimed to be law enforcement agents. The incident shocked many, while others praised it as bold action against alleged fraudsters—until the legal implications became clear.

WHO IS TAFADZWA “BOSS KEDHA” CHIDAWA?

Chidawa’s life reads like a thriller novel—part former cop, part self-styled detective, part political aspirant, and all controversy.

Police Service and Criminal Accusations

A former member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Chidawa left the force under a cloud in 2019. His tenure included allegations of malicious damage to property in 2014 and a high-profile robbery case in 2019, in which he and fellow officers were accused of seizing and misappropriating US$11,000 from a money changer. In 2023, he was named in the theft of a vehicle from a ZIMRA car yard in Chirundu, prompting police to issue an alert for his arrest.

Failed Foray into Politics

In 2023, Chidawa ran for Parliament under the ZANU PF banner in Harare but suffered a crushing defeat. He managed just 3,992 votes, far behind Citizens Coalition for Change candidate Shakespear Hamauswa, who garnered over 19,000 votes.

Rise as a Vigilante Influencer

Post-retirement, Chidawa reinvented himself as a Facebook-based crime crusader. With thousands of followers, he became known for his dramatic live streams in which he ambushed suspected criminals and “exposed” scammers. His viral videos have included street chases, citizen arrests, and dramatic confessions—though critics have consistently raised questions about legality, due process, and safety.

PUBLIC REACTION AND LEGAL IMPLICATIONS

The conviction marks a major turning point for Chidawa, whose rise to social media notoriety has long existed in a legal grey zone. While many supporters credit him with helping expose Zimbabwe’s underworld of scammers and thieves, legal experts say his actions—particularly involving impersonation and abduction—violate basic constitutional protections.

“This is not law enforcement; it’s mob justice with a smartphone,” one legal analyst told The Herald.

CONCLUSION

Tafadzwa Chidawa remains a polarising figure. His supporters see him as a fearless vigilante, taking action where the police have failed. But critics—and now the courts—are beginning to label him a dangerous outlaw operating outside the law. With this conviction now on record, further scrutiny into his operations and alliances seems inevitable.

Whether Chidawa will tone down his activities or continue pushing the limits of self-appointed justice remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the public fascination with “Detective Kedha” is far from over.

Top Kwekwe Prophet Arrested for Murder

By Crime and Courts Reporter –Police in Kwekwe have arrested a prominent self-styled prophet and eight of her congregants in connection with the suspected ritual killing of a man during a spiritual ceremony.

The prophet, Charity Mafirowanda (46), was taken into custody along with Talent Khumalo (42), Bongani Paraffin(33), Admire Makota (23), Ronald Mandiedza (24), Margret Zireba (21), Lyton Ndlovu (19), Arnold Mashiri (23), and Pauline Banda (33).

The group is accused of causing the death of Micky Chuma (54) on June 18, 2025, during a cleansing ceremony held at a church shrine in Mbizo.

According to police, the suspects allegedly administered a concoction to Chuma in a bid to exorcise what they believed were evil spirits. The ritual reportedly turned fatal, resulting in Chuma’s death.

In a bid to conceal the incident, the suspects are alleged to have transported Chuma’s body from the shrine to his home, where they placed it on a bed and covered it with blankets to make it appear as though he had died in his sleep.

Investigations are ongoing, and police say the accused will face murder charges. Authorities have warned the public against participating in dangerous unregulated spiritual practices that put lives at risk.

ED Challenger Acquitted

By A Correspondent| A Harare magistrate has withdrawn assault charges against former Zanu PF activist Sybeth Musengezi after the State failed to locate its key witness.

Musengezi had been facing allegations of assaulting airtime vendor Norest Taruberekere, who allegedly disrupted a press conference he was addressing in central Harare on the state of the economy.

According to accounts from the day, chaos erupted when two men—reportedly vendors—stormed the Media Centre, where the briefing was taking place. Wearing green aprons and with their faces covered, the intruders tore down Musengezi’s banners and forced him to end the event prematurely.

Journalists present at the scene witnessed the confrontation, which culminated in police forcibly removing Musengezi from the venue and placing him into a waiting truck.

During court proceedings, prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawo informed magistrate Kudzai Mthombeni that the State’s case could not proceed due to the unavailability of the complainant, Taruberekere. With the key witness missing, the prosecution withdrew the charges.

Musengezi was represented by human rights lawyer Doug Coltart.

Mamelodi Sundowns Go Down Fighting

Sports Correspondent

Mamelodi Sundowns put on a spirited display in a thrilling seven-goal encounter against European giants Borussia Dortmund, ultimately falling 3-4 in a friendly match that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

It was a match that showcased the Brazilians’ grit, resilience, and attacking flair, even as they faced one of Europe’s most formidable sides. Goals from Lucas Ribeiro (11’), Iqraam Rayners (62’), and Lebo Mothiba (89’) highlighted Sundowns’ intent and refusal to back down.

Dortmund responded with clinical precision, as Felix Nmecha (16’) cancelled out Ribeiro’s early opener before Serhou Guirassy (34’) and Jude Bellingham (45’) gave the visitors a 3-1 lead heading into halftime. A freak own goal by Sundowns’ defender Khuliso Mudau (60’) widened the gap, but Rayners’ strike just two minutes later reignited hope for the home side.

Mothiba’s late goal in the 89th minute gave Sundowns a chance to push for a dramatic equaliser, but Dortmund held firm in the dying minutes to seal the narrow win.

Despite the loss, Sundowns walked away with their heads held high. The performance drew admiration from supporters, with many applauding the team’s courage and attacking intent.

“A hard fought battle right to the final whistle! Not the result we were looking for but a performance to be proud of! One more game to play!” the club posted after the match, reflecting both disappointment and pride.

With one more game left in their schedule, Sundowns will look to build on this momentum and continue proving their credentials on the international stage.

Leaked Muchinguri Letter Over Army

The National Chairman of ZANU PF
Cde O.C.Z. Muchinguri
22 June 2025

Dear Cde Muchinguri,

RE: Unprocedural Co-option of Tagwirei into the Central Committee

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent co-option of Kudakwashe Tagwirei into the Central Committee of ZANU PF. Based on the party’s constitution, it appears that this decision does not conform to the established rules and procedures.

Specifically, the constitution outlines clear guidelines for both membership and leadership positions. Tagwirei’s elevation to the Central Committee, despite being only a cell member, does not meet the required criteria. According to the constitution, waivers are typically granted to individuals who have previously held security positions in government or who are government employees.

The fast rise of Tagwirei above the guns

Failure to observe the party’s own constitution—as well as the Constitution of Zimbabwe—undermines the principles of accountability, transparency, and fairness. It also raises concerns about the party’s commitment to upholding its rules and the broader rule of law.

I urge the leadership of ZANU PF to review this decision and ensure it aligns with the party’s constitution. The people of Zimbabwe deserve leaders who are genuinely committed to the principles of democracy, accountability, and good governance.

INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE:
Cell member 1 year before elevation

Branch structure 2 years before election

District structure 3 years before elevation

DCC 4 years
Provincial structure 5 years

  • Tagwirei (no structure, no membership)

Yours faithfully,
Concerned Comrade

America Unleashes Airstrikes On Iranian Nuclear Facilities

By A Correspondent

In a dramatic escalation of Middle East tensions, President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States has launched targeted airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, marking a major turning point in U.S. military involvement in the region.

Taking to Truth Social to announce the operation late Friday night, Trump declared:

“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space.”

The president further hailed the operation as a milestone moment, writing:

“This is an HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISRAEL, AND THE WORLD. IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR. THANK YOU!”

Trump also amplified a message on social media declaring:

“FORDOW IS GONE,” referring to Iran’s heavily fortified underground nuclear enrichment facility near the city of Qom.

The strike follows a week of high-level deliberations within the Trump administration over whether to formally join Israel’s ongoing military campaign against Tehran. The operation makes President Trump the first sitting U.S. leader since the 1979 Iranian Revolution to order direct airstrikes on Iran’s key nuclear infrastructure.

Sources familiar with the operation say the U.S. deployed B-2 Spirit stealth bombers, specifically chosen for their capability to carry the Massive Ordnance Penetrator—widely considered the only weapon capable of penetrating Iran’s deeply buried nuclear bunkers.

Each B-2 bomber is capable of carrying two of the 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs, and analysts believe these were crucial in striking the hardened Fordow site, as well as facilities in Natanz and Esfahan.

As of now, Iran has not officially responded to the U.S. strike, but regional tensions are expected to spike significantly in the coming hours. The global community is bracing for the potential fallout as Washington now finds itself fully engaged in a volatile conflict with far-reaching implications.

President Trump has not indicated whether further military action is imminent, but in his latest Truth Social update, he warned:

“Iran has been warned. The U.S. will do what it must. Peace through strength!”

Mnangagwa Minister Threatens Schools Refusing to Accept ZiG as Fees Payment

By A Correspondent

Minister Garwe Turns Up the Heat on Mayor Coltart “Amid Corruption Storm”

By A Correspondent

Minister of Local Government and Public Works Daniel Garwe has intensified his spotlight on Bulawayo City Council, fuelling speculation that the real target of his latest moves is none other than the city’s Mayor, David Coltart.

The Minister’s recent remarks and actions appear less about governance reform and more about political posturing ahead of the next electoral cycle, observers say.

Speaking in reference to a looming Commission of Inquiry into Bulawayo’s local authority, Garwe declared: “We have made the recommendation that we need to have a thorough investigation of all our urban local authorities because there is a lot of decay.” While he did not mention Mayor Coltart by name, the repeated focus on Bulawayo—despite broader national governance issues—has drawn attention.

The Ministry’s spokesperson, Gabriel Masvora, confirmed that recommendations have already been made for the establishment of inquiries across all urban councils. However, the spotlight remains fixed on Bulawayo. “The ministry simply recommends to the President and as stated by Hon. Garwe, recommendations have been made aimed at having thorough investigations targeting all urban local authorities,” said Masvora.

According to Masvora, “Section 2(1) of the Commission of Inquiry Act (Chapter 10:07) gives the President the prerogative to appoint a Commission of Inquiry into the conduct of any officer in the Public Service.”

Critics, however, see the developments as a thinly veiled political offensive. Mayor Coltart, who has been vocal about national and local governance reforms, now finds himself at the centre of what some believe is an orchestrated effort to undermine his leadership.

“What’s happening here has all the signs of a politically motivated move. Corruption is not unique to Bulawayo, but Minister Garwe keeps circling the city like a hawk. It’s hard not to see this as targeting Coltart,” said a political analyst.

This narrative is further supported by subtle efforts to rally residents against the mayor. Residents’ associations have begun echoing government sentiments, and some believe this is part of a broader strategy to isolate and discredit the mayor.

Bulawayo United Residents Association (BURA) chairperson, Mr. Winos Dube, expressed dismay at past corruption cases within the council: “As residents, we were disappointed and disheartened that the very people we had entrusted with the running of the city’s affairs were the very people who were pulling it back.”

The comment, though in response to earlier scandals involving Deputy Mayor Edwin Ndlovu and Finance Chairperson Mpumelelo Moyo—both implicated in a US$20,000 “facilitation” fee scandal—is now being leveraged to build a case for deeper intervention in City Hall.

Meanwhile, Mayor Coltart has remained largely silent in the face of the mounting scrutiny, though sources close to him suggest he sees the move as an attempt to distract from national governance failures.

With the President yet to announce whether a Commission of Inquiry will officially be set up for Bulawayo, all eyes remain on Garwe’s next steps—and the political implications they carry.

Hilarious ZimDaily Cartoon Of ZANU Youth League Flying To Iran To Fight In War

By Trackman Ncube | In the chaotic aftermath of President Trump’s shock-and-awe strike on Iran, an unlikely group of heroes emerged from the tarmac of Harare International Airport. Mai Welly, bulging her strong backside, DJ Fanta wielding his trusty club, led the charge as he rallied DJ Towers, the flamboyant machete-wielding DJ, and the spirited ZANU PF Youth League. The trio, depicted in a wild cartoon by Zimbabwe Daily, had hatched a hilarious plan to board an IranAir flight to Tehran and fight for Iran in this sudden global upheaval.

As the sun rose over Zimbabwe on June 22, 2025, the group gathered at the gate, their mismatched outfits—Mai Welly in her tattered blanket, DJ Towers in his colorful scarf, and the Youth League in green uniforms—drawing laughs from onlookers. “WW3 here we come!” they shouted, mimicking the cartoon’s bold caption, as they stormed the plane with bags of snacks and makeshift weapons.

The flight to Iran

Inside, the IranAir crew blinked in confusion as Mai Welly declared, “We’re here to save Iran!” DJ Towers spun records to boost morale, while the Youth League practiced their battle chants. Unaware of the strike’s scale, they imagined themselves as Iran’s last line of defense, fueled by Trump’s fiery tweets echoing through their phones.

Mid-flight, news of the bombing hit, and the cabin erupted in a mix of panic and pride. Mai Welly, undeterred, proposed a mid-air strategy session, sketching battle plans on a napkin. DJ Towers suggested a “boom-boom beat drop” to intimidate enemies, while the Youth League vowed to outshout any retaliation. Their absurdity peaked when they tried to parachute into Tehran with a tangled mess of scarves, only to land in a field, laughing hysterically.

Back in Washington, Trump’s address loomed, but for this ragtag crew, their “historic moment” was a comedic misadventure—proving that even in war, a little Zimbabwean humor could lighten the load.

Mnangagwa Administration’s Incompetence Exposed As 70 Succumb To Diarrhoea

By A Correspondent

A document obtained by ZimEye.com from the Ministry of Health and Child Care has confirmed that at least 70 people have died from diarrhoea-related illnesses across Zimbabwe since the beginning of 2025—laying bare the deteriorating state of the country’s public health system under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

The internal disease surveillance report, dated June 2025, paints a grim picture of widespread infections and preventable deaths, exposing systemic failures in sanitation, access to clean water, and critical drug availability.

“The cumulative number of deaths due to common diarrhoea stands at 70,” the report reads. “The cases are widespread and have been reported across all provinces, with high incidence in communities lacking access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.”

The report reveals that between January and early June, thousands of diarrhoeal cases were recorded, with the Ministry attributing the spike to poor water quality, unhygienic conditions, and a crumbling healthcare infrastructure.

“Major contributing factors include consumption of contaminated water, poor hygiene practices, and limited access to health care services due to ongoing stockouts of essential medicines,” the document states.

The report highlights that in several districts, clinics are unable to provide even basic medical responses. “Some health centres are operating without oral rehydration salts, antibiotics, or intravenous fluids—leaving both children and elderly patients vulnerable to severe dehydration and death,” the ministry warns.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has recommended urgent nationwide interventions. These include “the immediate restoration of water and sanitation infrastructure, reinforcement of hygiene promotion activities, and emergency medical supply distribution to affected areas,” according to the report.

Despite these recommendations, critics argue that the report serves as further proof of chronic government neglect and mismanagement. While the Ministry admits to the crisis, the report does not outline any decisive action already taken—only what “should” be done.

As the death toll continues to rise, the Ministry’s own data now stands as a damning indictment of the Mnangagwa administration’s inability to protect its citizens from one of the most basic and preventable public health threats in the 21st century.

I have finally graduated with a Master’s Degree in International Environmental Studies after an incredible two-year journey at NMBU – Norwegian University of Life Sciences.

Two years ago, I made a bold decision to venture into a field entirely unrelated to my bachelor’s degree in International Marketing. My motivation? Passion and opportunity!

With a honey production start-up rooted in indigenous research, I was eager to demonstrate that preserving pollinators is essential for climate change resilience. As I traveled across Southern Africa, setting up apiaries in Zimbabwe, I realized I needed validation and qualification.

When I began this program, I had no idea what lay ahead; I underestimated the challenge of mastering new terminology, scientific concepts, qualitative research, and numerous journal readings each lesson. Every week brought fresh anxiety and pressure. READ MORE ON HER LINKEDIN

Wicknell Chivayo Gave Barwe Paltry USD370 And Demanded Worship

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Wicknell Chivayo’s gift to senior journalist Reuben Barwe was a total no more than a paltry USD370, ZimEye reveals.

The money which the tenderpreneur (42) made Barwe (69) who is his own father’s age, to record a video of thanking the Chikurubi Maximum Prison ex inmate, is not at all the USD100,000 stashes of money he was seen being handed. Neither is it the celebrated USD200,000 considering the Toyota Land Cruiser’s car value.

It is a mere salary shortfall that’s being backdated for Barwe who has been underpaid since his his first day working for the Ministry Of Information and subsequently ZBC- for a total 45 years of service.

He has been on a salary of no more than USD700 since independence.

Factoring the USD200,000 over the 45 year period, Barwe only received USD370,00, which money will serve him, since ZBC is not able to pay him package. The state broadcaster has been doing worse than underpaying Barwe, it has not been contributing to the employees’ pensions fund.

…….

The figure over the period of employment

Commenting when he was handled the highly celebrated gift, Barwe lyrically told Chivayo,
“May where you have removed this be added more!” PICTURE

While Chivayo and Emmerson Mnangagwa give Barwe a paltry total no more than USD370 that was his own salary in 2025, the President is remunerating a foreign journalist Christian Amanpour’s husband a whopping USD550,000 for just one interview. (See the leaked emails below)

Tagwirei Provokes VP Chiwenga

Although the initial recommendation for Tagwirei came from Masvingo province, it was Harare that ultimately made room for him in the 300-member committee — a gesture many see as orchestrated by Mnangagwa’s inner circle.

“Your co-option into the Central Committee is a breath of fresh air,” said Chinamasa. “You will certainly be impactful toZANU PF’s political fortunes in Harare and other urban settings.”

Tagwireyi’s rise from behind-the-scenes financier to visible political actor signals a new phase in ZANU PF’s succession dynamics.

Self-Proclaimed Prophet Arrested for Alleged Ritual Murder in Kwekwe

By A Correspondent| Police in Kwekwe have arrested a self-proclaimed prophet and eight of her congregants in connection with the suspected ritual killing of a 54-year-old man during an alleged exorcism ceremony.

Charity Mafirowanda (46), who claims to be a spiritual healer, was taken into custody alongside Talent Khumalo (42), Bongani Paraffin (33), Admire Makota (23), Ronald Mandiedza (24), Margret Zireba (21), Lyton Ndlovu (19), Arnold Mashiri (23), and Pauline Banda (33). The group is accused of causing the death of Micky Chuma on June 18, 2025, at a church shrine located in the Mbizo suburb of Kwekwe.

According to police reports, the suspects allegedly administered a concoction to Chuma during a spiritual cleansing ritual aimed at exorcising what they believed were evil spirits afflicting the victim. The ritual reportedly turned fatal, resulting in Chuma’s death at the scene.

In an apparent attempt to conceal the incident, the group allegedly transported Chuma’s body from the shrine to his residence. Authorities say the body was placed on his bed and covered with blankets in an effort to create the illusion that he had died in his sleep.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrests and said investigations are ongoing.

“This is a deeply disturbing case. We urge members of the public to seek medical help from qualified professionals and to report any suspicious or unorthodox practices to law enforcement,” said Inspector Mahoko.

The suspects are expected to appear in court in the coming days to face murder charges.

Details in ZANU PF Veteran’s Death

By A Correspondent-President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to preside over the burial of liberation war veteran Luke Mushore, popularly known by his Chimurenga name Joboringo, at the National Heroes Acre on Monday.

This follows the official conferment of National Hero Status on Mushore on Friday, in recognition of his unwavering commitment and distinguished service to Zimbabwe during and after the liberation struggle.

In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage confirmed the burial arrangements. Mushore’s body will be airlifted to Centenary on Saturday, where friends, family, and provincial leadership from Mashonaland Central will have the opportunity to pay their final respects.

His remains will lie in state at his rural home at Braeburn Farm before being returned to Harare on Sunday. The body will be received at Charles Gumbo Barracks ahead of Monday’s official state burial.

The nation has been urged to unite in remembrance of a man whose dedication to Zimbabwe’s liberation and post-independence development helped shape the course of its history.

Mushore joined the liberation struggle in 1972 and was among the early cadres who played a critical role in the fight for independence.

Trump Orders Airstrikes on Iranian Nuclear Facilities: “Historic Moment for America, Israel, and the World”

Mnangagwa’s Mini Cabinet Dominates Alice Pote Funeral

By A Correspondent-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inner circle descended on Chivi, Masvingo Province, Friday for the lavish burial of Alice Pote, the 33-year-old business prodigy and close family associate, in a display that blurred the lines between funeral, political rally, and state-sponsored spectacle.

What was expected to be a solemn farewell transformed into a grandiose, high-powered send-off marked by pomp, feasting, and political theatrics.

Pote, a director at Pote Holdings and owner of the popular Stallion Cruise Bus Company, died last Monday from acute respiratory failure and a pulmonary embolism.

Yet even in death, she commanded attention. Her burial brought together a who’s who of the ruling elite, led by President Mnangagwa’s younger brother, Patrick Mnangagwa, who attended on behalf of the First Family.

Also present were Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube, Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Ezra Chadzamira, Deputy Health Minister Sleiman Kwidini, and several other senior government officials.

Mourners travelled from across Zimbabwe and beyond, including a delegation from Dubai effectively grinding business to a halt in Zvishavane and parts of Masvingo as thousands gathered to honour a woman remembered for her charisma, ambition, and meteoric rise in the male-dominated transport industry.

The Pote family spared no expense. In what felt like a state banquet, 10 cattle, 50 pigs, and 500 chickens were slaughtered to feed the masses.

The atmosphere was festive, complete with music, dancing, ululating, and endless praise, an extravagant celebration of a life lived boldly and unapologetically.

“She was a lioness,” one mourner said. “She didn’t wait for opportunities — she created them.”

Though she hailed from a family of powerful entrepreneurs, Alice carved her own path. Her Stallion Cruise buses became symbols of her relentless work ethic, and she emerged as a role model for aspiring women entrepreneurs, especially those from rural communities.

The presence of ZANU PF heavyweights and government dignitaries added a political charge to the event, with many quietly interpreting the funeral as a public show of the Pote family’s deepening ties to the Mnangagwa administration, a bold reminder of their growing influence.

Yes, tears were shed, but it was the sheer scale of the spectacle, the political undertones, and the audacious celebration of success that defined the day.

Alice Pote is gone, but her farewell was nothing short of legendary.

Mini Party at ED Ally’s Burial

Alice Pote burial

By A Correspondent-What was meant to be a solemn farewell for Alice Pote, the late business dynamo and close associate of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, exploded into an opulent, high-powered send-off that felt more like a mini-rally-meets-carnival than a burial.

Pote, just 33 when she died last Monday from acute respiratory failure and a pulmonary embolism, was laid to rest Friday in her rural home of Chivi, Masvingo Province.

But if anyone expected quiet mourning, they were met instead by a spectacular showcase of wealth, political muscle, and indulgent feasting — a dramatic tribute to a woman who lived large and rose fast.

The burial drew mourners from all corners of Zimbabwe and beyond, including a delegation from Dubai, temporarily shutting down business activity in Zvishavane and parts of Masvingo as thousands flooded the small district to honour her.

A director of Pote Holdings and owner of Stallion Cruise Bus Company, Alice was not only the younger sister of tycoon Anthony Clever Pote, she was a symbol of fearless ambition in a man’s world.

The Pote family spared no expense to honour her legacy.

In a scene that could rival a royal feast, 10 cattle, 50 pigs, and 500 chickens were slaughtered, feeding multitudes as music, laughter, and praise-songs rang out beneath the summer sky. Many called it “a celebration befitting a queen of enterprise.”

“She was a lioness,” one mourner declared. “She didn’t wait for doors to open — she kicked them down.”

Alice was remembered as a trailblazer who stormed the male-dominated transport industry, turning her Stallion Cruise brand into a household name.

She broke stereotypes, mentored many, and carried the hopes of rural girls aspiring to take their place in boardrooms and bus depots alike.

ZANU PF heavyweights, government officials, and influential business figures thronged the event some whispering that the scale of the funeral was also a demonstration of political and financial clout by the Pote empire, which has grown visibly close to the Mnangagwa establishment.

Though tears were shed, it was the spectacle — the glitz, the power, the narrative of triumph cut short — that lingered in the minds of many.

Alice Pote may be gone, but her send-off was nothing short of legendary.

Trump Bombs Iran Overnight, Declares “Historic Moment” in Global Military History

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Washington D.C. — In an unprecedented and swift move that has stunned both allies and adversaries, U.S. President Donald J. Trump launched a massive military operation against Iran overnight — mere hours after declaring intent to do so. The operation, which he has branded a “historic moment” for the United States, Israel, and the world, marks one of the most aggressive and immediate responses by any American president in recent history.

In a pair of posts on his verified social media account, Trump confirmed both the operation and his readiness to retaliate further if Iran responds.

“ANY RETALIATION BY IRAN AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL BE MET WITH FORCE FAR GREATER THAN WHAT WAS WITNESSED TONIGHT,” Trump wrote in a defiant statement. He signed it off with: “THANK YOU! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.”

Only two hours earlier, he had announced a planned address from the White House at 10:00 PM, describing the military campaign as “very successful” and declaring:

“This is an HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISRAEL, AND THE WORLD. IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR.”

Trump’s immediate action is drawing comparisons to historic U.S. military strikes, but unlike previous administrations, he did not wait for diplomatic consensus or congressional debate. The president moved with unflinching resolve, launching the operation within the same day of his initial warning — a departure from the traditional measured approach taken by his predecessors.

His declaration that Iran “must now agree to end this war” suggests that the campaign was not merely a warning strike, but a full-scale strategic escalation.

Meanwhile, Iran’s leadership has yet to respond publicly, but tensions across the Middle East are palpably escalating.

This sudden and bold move now opens up questions about Trump’s future intentions, his redefined doctrine of pre-emptive force, and the implications for global security.

In a comment, the Head of Iran’s Nuclear Safety System Center said:

“Despite the criminal actions early this morning in the attack on nuclear facilities, due to prior precautions and measures taken, no radioactive contamination or nuclear radiation has been observed outside these sites and facilities.

“They tried to break us, but failed again!”
Our scientists outsmarted their bombs — no radiation, no damage, no fear. Iran stands tall, prepared and protected.
This land is guarded by knowledge, faith, and courage.”

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said “The world must not forget that it was the United States that initiated a dangerous war against Iran.”

Zanu PF Veteran Declared National Hero

By A Correspondent-ZANU PF has conferred national hero status on liberation war veteran Luke Mushore, who passed away last week.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, Honourable Monica Mavhunga, during a visit to the Mushore family homestead in Centenary on Friday afternoon.

Mushore, who was widely known by his Chimurenga name Dick Joboringo, was born in 1949 and was among the early cadres to join the armed liberation struggle in 1972.

His contribution to Zimbabwe’s independence has been described by party officials as unwavering and selfless.

Further details regarding his burial arrangements at the National Heroes Acre in Harare are expected to be announced soon.

Mugabe Vindicated As ED Breaks Looting Record

By A Correspondent-The late former President Robert Mugabe once warned that Emmerson Mnangagwa lacked the temperament and integrity to lead Zimbabwe.

Today, that prophetic caution appears to have come full circle as the Mnangagwa administration sinks deeper into an unprecedented looting spree, with high-level corruption now described as “widespread and systemic” by the government’s own watchdog.

Mugabe, who was ousted in a 2017 military coup that ushered in the so-called “Second Republic,” famously resisted handing over power to Mnangagwa, reportedly telling close associates that his long-time aide was “not presidential material” and would drag the country into a new era of unrestrained kleptocracy.

His fears are now being vindicated.

Confidential government documents obtained by the Zimbabwe Independent reveal a damning web of corruption implicating cabinet ministers, permanent secretaries, and senior bureaucrats who are siphoning millions from state-owned enterprises.

The funds are being diverted to finance opulent lifestyles — luxury vehicles, overseas junkets, DSTV subscriptions, gym memberships, and even hotel bills — all under the guise of “inter-ministerial collaboration.”

The looting is bleeding parastatals already in financial distress and exacerbating the burden on taxpayers, many of whom are earning below the poverty line and facing increasing taxation. Alarmed by the scale of the abuse, the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has issued an unusually blunt directive, warning that the illegal expenditures are “undermining corporate governance, compromising service delivery, and placing unsustainable pressure on the fiscus.”

According to the OPC’s Corporate Governance Unit (CGU), ministries now treat state enterprises as personal piggy banks, forcing them to bankroll unapproved activities well outside national budget frameworks.

“The Corporate Governance Unit has observed that an increasing number of state enterprises and parastatals are facing challenges with regard to increasing requests for financial and material support from their line ministries,” the June 17, 2025 circular reads.

In shocking detail, the memo outlines how public entities were strong-armed into financing foreign delegations, purchasing luxury vehicles for ministry officials, and paying for social programmes with no relation to their mandates. These included DSTV subscriptions, private club and gym memberships, stationery, car rentals, and allowances.

The directive invokes Section 23 of the Public Entities Corporate Governance (General) Regulations under Statutory Instrument 168 of 2018, which expressly prohibits the misuse of public funds and warns that culpable executives and board members will be held personally liable.

While a similar caution was issued in 2019, analysts say this renewed crackdown signals deeper frustration within government over the entrenchment of corrupt practices and a growing appetite to enforce accountability — at least on paper. However, critics remain skeptical, citing the government’s long-standing failure to prosecute high-profile looters.

“These payments are often requested by line ministries notwithstanding that line ministries funding is provided through the Treasury national budget,” the circular notes, adding that such actions are “undermining good corporate governance and stewardship of public resources.”

The CGU directive reminds executives that they are legally bound to resist unlawful orders and report them. But in a political culture where whistleblowers are punished and enforcers are complicit, the looting seems likely to persist.

For many Zimbabweans, this latest scandal reaffirms Mugabe’s chilling forecast — that Mnangagwa’s presidency would not bring reform, but rather usher in a more ruthless and institutionalised form of looting.

ZRP Cops Jailed for Taking Bribes

By A Correspondent

HARARE COPS JAILED FOR TAKING BRIBES AT CHECKPOINT

Two Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers have been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of accepting bribes while manning a checkpoint near Sunway City Special Economic Zone in Harare.

The officers, Dennis Tafadzwa Chivaku and Sharon Madondo, were convicted of criminal abuse of duty and sentenced to four years in prison, with one year suspended on condition of good behavior — meaning they will serve three years behind bars.

While on duty at the checkpoint, Chivaku and Madondo were discovered to be soliciting bribes from motorists, particularly targeting individuals involved in illegal sand poaching in the area. The officers were reportedly charging US$5 per truck to allow the vehicles to pass without interference, a blatant violation of their roles as public officers entrusted to uphold the law.

Authorities acted swiftly after receiving reports of the corrupt activities. A trap was set, and the operation successfully caught the two officers red-handed while accepting bribes. They were arrested and taken through a full trial at the Harare Magistrates’ Court, where they were both found guilty.

The conviction and sentencing of the officers serve as a stern reminder that corruption within the ranks of law enforcement will not be tolerated. The case highlights the importance of integrity and accountability, especially among those tasked with protecting the law and serving the public.

Public reaction has been mixed, with some expressing disappointment in the conduct of the officers, while others have called for more widespread crackdowns on similar corrupt practices across the country.

Emotional Send-Off For Stallion Cruise Bus Company Owner

By A Correspondent

Thousands of mourners gathered in Chivi, Masvingo Province, to bid a heartfelt farewell to Alice Clever Pote, the well-known businesswoman and owner of Stallion Cruise Bus Company. The younger sister of Pote Holdings founder Anthony Clever Pote, Alice was laid to rest in an emotional ceremony attended by senior Government officials and dignitaries.

The funeral drew mourners from across Zimbabwe and as far as Dubai, bringing business in the area to a halt as people came to honour a woman widely admired for her strength, ambition, and generosity.

In keeping with her giving spirit and as a celebration of her remarkable life, the Pote family slaughtered 10 cattle, 500 chickens, and 50 pigs to feed the multitudes who came to pay their respects. Many spoke of how Alice, a rural girl who rose to prominence in the business world, had defied stereotypes and served as a beacon of inspiration for women across the country.

Despite coming from a family of successful entrepreneurs, Alice chose her own path, courageously venturing into the male-dominated transport sector, where she built a respected brand and earned her place at the top through determination and vision.

Alice passed away on Monday at the age of 33 due to acute respiratory failure and pulmonary embolism. Her untimely death has left a void in both her family and the business community.

High-ranking officials from ZANU PF were in attendance.

Politics Of Money Will Destroy Parties

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The politics of money and the buying of power in Zimbabwe is a complex issue, deeply intertwined with the country’s economic struggles and authoritarian tendencies.
Several individuals within Zimbabwe’s political landscape have been accused of using wealth either to ascend to power or to maintain their positions. Some have amassed wealth and used it to gain recognition; others have used money merely as a vehicle to access the corridors of power. They may hold no formal political positions, yet wield significant political and financial influence.

One need not look further than Wicknell Chivayo — a businessman and ZANU PF supporter known for his flamboyant lifestyle and generous handouts, often gifting cars to influential figures. His wealth and influence have sparked controversy, with many questioning the source of his funds and accusing him of benefitting from government contracts and corruption. Because of his wealth, Chivayo now appears to have considerable control over key power structures. He was once heard boasting that power now rests in his hands.

Chivayo’s confidence seems justified by the support he receives from powerful figures. However, from a political standpoint, some of his behavior can be damaging to the Head of State. The power of money is such that Chivayo’s shortcomings are often overlooked or masked by his wealth.

A critical point to consider is the role played by the informal economy and currency dynamics in all of this. Informal money traders play a vital role in Zimbabwe’s monetary system, as citizens seek to protect their livelihoods amid hyperinflation and economic instability. Many Zimbabweans — including professionals such as teachers — exchange their salaries in Zimbabwean dollars for U.S. dollars on the street, reflecting a deep mistrust in the government’s economic stewardship.

This economic trend inevitably feeds into the political landscape. As money becomes a decisive factor, those with the most financial resources become key influencers. Their wealth exposes a silent form of protest and reflects the tension between the government’s monetary policies and the people’s need for economic survival.

Those with money effectively hijack both the party and the nation, as their financial power speaks louder than their political legitimacy.

Former President Cde Robert Mugabe and ZANU PF built a business empire through largely unchallenged means. However, some corrupt elements within the party used unorthodox tactics — including land expropriation and manipulation of government contracts. These actions tarnished Mugabe’s administration, which became synonymous with corruption. The party’s business interests often overlapped with those of its leaders. It’s important to note that allegations of corruption and financial misconduct are contested, and those implicated were not necessarily acting on behalf of the party. The party itself has denied any wrongdoing.

Nonetheless, these cases highlight the complex and often troubling intersection of wealth, power, and politics in Zimbabwe.
Due to the influence of money, individuals with financial power have bought their way into political positions. The fear is that such individuals lack respect for the electorate. In contrast, leaders elected by the people tend to remain loyal to their supporters because they owe their positions to the people’s vote.

The dangerous trend now emerging in Zimbabwean politics is the rise of “black Trumps” — wealthy individuals whose financial might allows them to dominate the political scene. When such figures are allowed to assume power, they risk creating a legacy of authoritarianism that compounds the country’s economic woes and stifles democratic space.

The durability of authoritarian rule in Zimbabwe may well be reinforced by the wealthy’s grip on key institutions — including the security sector. Indeed, the rich already appear to have significant influence over both the security apparatus and essential departments within the party and the state.

The current economic system also limits citizens’ freedom to choose their preferred currency, thereby fueling the informal economy and creating opportunities for exploitation by those with access to capital. Advocates argue for a multi-currency regime that would provide individuals with greater flexibility and autonomy — particularly in a nation with a significant diaspora and an unstable currency. However, those who benefit from the prevailing financial chaos are unlikely to support economic reforms.

This brings us to a current case in the news: Elder Cde Kudakwashe Tagwirei reportedly purchased vehicles for Harare Provincial office holders. Shortly thereafter, he was co-opted into the Central Committee of the party.
Was it his money or his patriotism that earned him this appointment?

Ultimately, the politics of money and power buying in Zimbabwe reflects a broader pattern of economic hardship, historical complexity, and authoritarian governance. Addressing this issue requires a nuanced understanding of how politics, economics, and society intersect.

Entering politics through financial means carries several serious risks, including:

Loss of credibility: Perceived attempts to buy political office erode public trust and damage reputations.

Corruption: Financially motivated access to power often breeds embezzlement, bribery, and favoritism.

Undue influence: Wealthy politicians may prioritize the interests of their donors or allies over the public good.

Inequality: Money-driven politics exclude capable but underfunded individuals from participating.

Short-termism: Leaders who purchase influence often pursue immediate gains over sustainable development.

Reputational harm: Involvement in money politics taints both individuals and the parties they represent.

Legal challenges: Financial influence in elections can lead to violations, including vote-buying and corruption.

Democratic erosion: Monetary politics threaten the principle of equal representation.

These drawbacks compromise the integrity of the political system and contribute to ineffective governance.

As ZANU PF welcomes Elder Comrade Kudakwashe Tagwirei into the Central Committee, vigilance is essential.

ZANU PF is the people, and the people are ZANU PF.

ZANU-PF Grassroots Reinvention: Dr. Rugeje Leads the Mash Central Strategic Imperative

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | In Zimbabwe’s ever-evolving political landscape, the ruling ZANU-PF party is undergoing a significant internal transformation: a nationwide verification of party cells. Although it may appear to be a routine bureaucratic exercise, this initiative—led by senior Politburo officials such as Lt Gen (Rtd) Dr. E.A. Rugeje, Secretary for Economic Affairs—marks a substantial shift in strategy. With the precision of a seasoned marksman, Lt Gen (Rtd) Engelbert Rugeje led the process in Mashonaland West. It reflects an important realization: even the most deeply rooted political parties must continually reinvent themselves, especially when national objectives like Vision 2030 are at stake.

Gen Englebert Rugeje on the campaign trail

Dr. Rugeje’s statement in Mashonaland Central, “Musangano wakasimbira kumasero” (the party’s strength lies in the cell), demonstrates a solid grasp of political mobilization. It affirms that real political power doesn’t rest in surface-level numbers, but in active, verified grassroots membership. For decades, political effectiveness has often been gauged by perceived size and coverage. However, without accurate data, these impressions can be misleading, discouraging genuine engagement and hampering informed policy-making.

Addressing the meetings… Gen Englebert Rugeje

This is where the ongoing cell verification exercise becomes vital. Its objectives are clear and practical: to establish verified membership, digitize records, and enhance direct communication with members. The shift to an electronic database is particularly noteworthy. In an age where digital efficiency is essential, this move allows ZANU-PF to streamline operations and move beyond outdated, cumbersome systems. It is not mere headcounting—it is about constructing a responsive and dynamic network aligned with both party needs and national development goals.

Eliminating “inactive or ghost members” is a key part of this process. It reflects a desire for authenticity and accountability within party structures. Inflated membership numbers—though symbolically impressive—ultimately hinder the party’s ability to accurately gauge its support base and allocate resources effectively. By rationalizing its membership, ZANU-PF can better understand its constituency, identify areas needing focused attention, and tailor its programs to address members’ actual needs.

Beyond internal efficiency, this initiative also contributes meaningfully to Zimbabwe’s development strategy. As Dr. Rugeje emphasized, strong party cohesion and grassroots connectivity play a vital role in advancing Vision 2030—Zimbabwe’s goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy. A well-organized party anchored at the community level is best positioned to communicate government policies, mobilize public support for development initiatives, and collect feedback from citizens. This two-way flow of information is crucial for accountable governance and inclusive development.

Naturally, such a wide-scale undertaking is not without its challenges. Verifying members across the country and navigating logistical hurdles will test the party’s resolve. However, the commitment shown by Politburo leaders like National Political Commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha indicates strong dedication to the initiative’s success.

Ultimately, ZANU-PF’s nationwide cell verification is far more than administrative housekeeping. It is a strategic investment in the party’s future—a pragmatic adaptation to modern political demands, and a critical step toward aligning internal structures with national aspirations. By fortifying its grassroots base, ZANU-PF is not only strengthening its electoral prospects, but also enhancing its capacity to lead Zimbabwe toward a prosperous future.

Dry Weekend for Harare as Water Crisis Deepens

By Municipal Reporter-Residents of Harare are bracing for yet another dry weekend after the City Council announced a shutdown of water supplies across several suburbs due to a major pipe burst at the Warren Control water distribution centre.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 18, Acting Town Clerk Engineer Phakamile Mabhena Moyo said the system had been temporarily shut down to allow engineers to assess, clean, and repair the damaged pipeline. Two other burst pipes along the network will also be attended to during the same period.

Suburbs set to be affected include Tynwald, Southerton, Eastlea, Hillside, Braeside, Milton Park, and even Parirenyatwa Hospital — one of the country’s largest referral health facilities. The Central Business District (CBD) is also expected to experience severe disruptions. However, some high-density suburbs in the western parts of the city — such as Glen View, Budiriro, Kuwadzana, and Mufakose — will remain unaffected.

Mabhena Moyo urged residents in affected areas to use water sparingly until repairs are completed.

This latest shutdown adds to Harare’s long-standing water woes, which have plagued the capital for decades. A toxic mix of ageing infrastructure, corruption in procurement, poor planning, and political interference has left millions of residents without reliable access to clean water. The city’s water system, originally designed for a population of fewer than half a million people, now serves over 2.5 million — with little to no significant investment in infrastructure upgrades.

In recent years, tender scandals involving the procurement of water treatment chemicals and pipe maintenance contracts have further crippled the city’s ability to provide consistent service. Residents often go for days — sometimes weeks — without running water, and when it does come, it’s frequently contaminated and unfit for drinking.

Waterborne diseases such as typhoid and cholera have become endemic in some suburbs, with health experts warning that continued neglect of the water infrastructure poses a serious public health threat. Attempts by donor organisations to assist have been frustrated by political turf wars between the opposition-led council and central government agencies aligned to the ruling ZANU PF party.

This weekend’s shutdown is a reminder of the capital’s fragile infrastructure and the urgent need for structural reforms and transparent, well-managed investment in the city’s water systems. Until then, Harare’s residents remain trapped in a cycle of crisis management, filling buckets and tanks in anticipation of the next dry spell.

Mnangagwa Admin in Looting Spree

By A Correspondent-The Emmerson Mnangagwa Mnangagwa administration is sinking in unprecedented looting spree, with high-level corruption now described as “widespread and systemic” by the government’s own watchdog.
