By A Correspondent-Self-imposed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu has openly told legislators aligned to him that he has secured a deal guaranteeing their continued stay in Parliament beyond 2028 under a proposed government of national unity (GNU).
Tshabangu made the remarks during a caucus meeting with 20 MPs and senators loyal to him at Parliament yesterday. His revelations have reignited accusations that he is acting in concert with Zanu PF to undermine the main opposition and neutralise its electoral gains.
In a competing meeting held on the same day, CCC faction leader Jameson Timba addressed 45 CCC MPs and senators in Harare, signalling deepening divisions within the opposition party.
A statement issued by Tshabangu’s faction declared:
“The party leadership reiterated the importance of constructive engagement with the government and key stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to national economic recovery and long-term development, extending beyond 2028.
The caucus reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a genuine national dialogue process that will pave way for an inclusive government of national unity to stabilise the country and reset the democratic agenda.”
Tshabangu’s statements have sparked outrage within opposition circles, with many viewing the comments as confirmation of a behind-the-scenes alliance with Zanu PF aimed at legitimising a disputed 2023 election outcome and facilitating a power-sharing arrangement that excludes legitimate opposition leadership.
Critics argue that Tshabangu’s actions since controversially recalling dozens of CCC MPs have consistently served the interests of the ruling party. His recall letters were readily accepted by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda—a Zanu PF politburo member—despite legal and constitutional challenges. This enabled Zanu PF to regain ground through by-elections and effectively dismantle CCC’s parliamentary majority.
Timba, speaking to NewsDay, dismissed Tshabangu’s GNU ambitions as a fantasy propped up by Zanu PF handlers.
“The attempt by Sengezo Tshabangu, having learned from his handlers to rig himself into the bona fide leadership of the CCC through a caucus, collapsed like a deck of cards when only 21 legislators turned up,” Timba said.
“The caucus that we called was well attended, with 45 attendees and eight apologies.”
Tshabangu has long been accused of being a Zanu PF proxy, a claim bolstered by his actions, which have consistently benefited the ruling party’s strategic goals. His meetings with State actors, perceived protection from legal scrutiny, and calls for a GNU have fed suspicions that he is part of a broader strategy to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2028 elections.
Observers warn that any GNU formed without a legitimate electoral mandate risks entrenching authoritarianism under the guise of national unity, while sidelining citizens’ democratic will expressed at the ballot box

HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration is once again under fire for alleged duplicity, as top government officials and politically connected elites are poised to hijack a lucrative housing development project meant to benefit war veterans.
This follows the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding involving the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, and a little-known private entity, Prevail Group of Companies.
The agreement, marketed as the “Presidential Stands for Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Programme,” promises residential stands to at least 50,000 war veterans—but critics say the deal reeks of cronyism and deception.
Behind the patriotic rhetoric lies a well-worn pattern: Mnangagwa’s government pledges empowerment for liberation war fighters, only for politically connected “fatcats” to swoop in and claim the spoils.
“This is yet another case of war veterans being used as campaign bait,” said a senior official from a veterans’ association who spoke on condition of anonymity. “These tenders are never transparent. They’re handed out to companies owned by friends of the powerful, while actual war veterans continue to live in poverty.”
Prevail Group of Companies, the beneficiary of the development contract, has raised eyebrows for its sudden involvement in such a high-stakes national project. No public tender process was announced, and little is known about the company’s track record. This has fueled suspicions that the project is more about enriching elites than honoring veterans.
President Mnangagwa has long touted his regime’s commitment to improving the lives of liberation fighters. “The Second Republic is concerned about the welfare of veterans,” he claimed through Minister Monica Mavhunga. However, past initiatives, including the so-called Presidential War Veterans Borehole Programme and the Housing Scheme, have failed to reach many intended recipients—often marred by corruption, lack of follow-through, and political favoritism.
“Section 23 of the Constitution mandates support for war veterans,” said Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe. “This agreement honors that.” But legal experts argue that meaningful constitutional support cannot exist without transparency, accountability, and fair access to opportunities.
Dr. Paul Tungwarara, chairperson of Prevail Group, said, “We are happy to be part of this initiative,” but failed to provide details on how the company was selected or how it intends to execute the project.
As construction looms, disillusionment among war veterans grows. Many fear that, like previous schemes, this will be a smokescreen for looting.
“This is classic Mnangagwa,” said a retired freedom fighter in Highfield. “Make a loud announcement, shake hands for the cameras, then disappear while your friends eat. We fought for land, not lies.”
In the face of growing economic hardship and broken promises, war veterans—once a core pillar of ZANU-PF’s support base—are increasingly questioning the sincerity of a government that continues to speak their language while betraying their cause.

@FarawoTinashe dismisses reports that have shut down school learning in Chinhoyi over an alleged stray lion spotted on a CCTV camera. (picture enclosed).
A viral audio circulated early morning 22 May with a male voice saying, “ Hello guys there is a lion that has been found in our neighbourhood right now. I am standing at Bhebhe’s home. If you have children they must stay indoors. There is a line that has been spotted right now there are National Parks here now.
“It was not caught, stay in home.”
But Mr Farawo tells ZimEye there is lion at all. He tells the news network in a brief interview as follows-
“There’s no need for people to cause unnecessary panic in the community by spreading fake news because our reaction team went to the ground and there was nothing.
“What I am telling you is a formal report that when I receive such distress calls, we go on the ground and do assessments. We have gone on the ground to do assessments and there is nothing like that according to our assessment from our reaction team.
Question- but there are lions, are there not, in the caves?
Answer: “We have an enclosure and those lions are domesticated and they do not live in the wild; “
Question- And there’s no lion that has leaked?
Answer: “No, no, no. There is no need to count. There are only two lions there.” – ZimEye
By A Showbiz Reporter-Afro-fusion sensation Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora, has landed in hot water after a warrant of arrest was issued against him, four months after he was involved in a New Year’s Day car crash in Harare.
The “Mavanga” hitmaker, who was driving a Toyota Aqua at the time of the accident, is accused of negligent driving and failing to take responsibility for damages caused to another motorist, Patikayi Murisa, whose Peugeot 407 was hit at the intersection of Harare Drive and Borrowdale Road.
What has shocked many is not just the incident itself, but Mbeu’s conduct in the aftermath, which has left fans and observers questioning his integrity as a public figure.
“It has been five months of hell for me because Mbeu has not been picking up my calls after he caused the accident on January 1,” Murisa told H-Metro.
“I didn’t know him personally, but as a celebrity, I expected him to cooperate in resolving the matter. Instead, he vanished.”
Murisa said efforts to resolve the matter amicably hit a brick wall as Mbeu allegedly ignored calls, refused to communicate, and even referred Murisa to his wife, Faith Mashami — who later claimed she was no longer with the musician.
Screenshots of WhatsApp conversations shared with this publication confirm that Mashami eventually told Murisa to reach out to Mbeu directly, stating:
“We are no longer staying together.”
Murisa, who had initially hoped to avoid legal action, said he was left with no choice but to approach the police, leading to the issuance of the warrant of arrest.
“They had agreed to fix my car, which is still parked at home. I didn’t want it to end this way, but he gave me no option,” Murisa added.
Ironically, it was only after the warrant was issued that Mbeu resurfaced, reportedly pleading for a meeting with Murisa at Highlands Police Station.
Contacted for comment, Mbeu admitted the delay but maintained he is now cooperating.
“I know the guy, I’m meeting him on Thursday. We are actually talking,” he said.
In a now-controversial post on social media, Mbeu reflected on surviving the accident, writing:
“On the 1st of January 2025, just a day before my second born’s birthday, I got into a horrible accident and almost lost my life… I owe God my life. I will rise again and even stronger! Mbeu ndini!”
However, critics argue that while he had time to post about the crash online, he failed to do the honourable thing and make amends with the man whose vehicle and life were upended.
In a country where celebrities are expected to be role models, Mbeu’s silence, deflection, and delay raise uncomfortable questions about the social responsibility of public figures.
Kadoma – 22 May 2025
By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | A terrifying collision between a haulage truck and a freight train occurred near Kadoma early Wednesday morning, sending shockwaves across the region and raising renewed concerns about railway crossing safety in Zimbabwe.
The crash, which happened at an unmanned rail crossing, left the lorry completely wrecked, with debris scattered across the tracks. Eyewitnesses who arrived shortly after the impact described a harrowing scene of mangled metal and chaos.
“There was a loud bang that shook the ground,” said one witness. “By the time we rushed to the scene, the truck was split open. It’s a miracle anyone made it out alive.”
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of casualties, but emergency services, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police and National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) officials, swiftly attended the scene.
According to initial assessments by NRZ engineers, the collision severely damaged the rail line, disrupting freight operations between Harare and Bulawayo. Recovery operations were still ongoing late into the afternoon.
NRZ confirmed in a statement that investigations are underway to determine whether the truck driver ignored rail safety regulations or if visibility was compromised. The crossing, locals say, has long been a hazard due to lack of boom gates and warning signals.
”…the driver and his passenger jumped off the truck and left it to ram into the last two wagons of the passing train.
The two men were rushed to hospital where they were treated and discharged,” NRZ said in their statement.
No official fatality figures have been released, and police have urged the public to stay clear of the site to allow for recovery work.
This story is developing.

By Sports Reporter –Angry community members in Epworth have disrupted a planned night church vigil after a local church posted a flyer deemed anti–renowned karateka and fitness trainer Sensei Mugove “Monya Mugo” Muhambi.
The leader of The Light of the World Church of All Nations, Prophet Michael Williams was forced to cancel an all-night prayer vigil scheduled for this weekend after residents in Epworth objected to the event’s theme, accusing the church of mocking the late martial artist.
The church’s flyer, which surfaced this week, promoted the vigil under the provocative theme: “OPERATION MAMONYA NGAAFE”, loosely translated as “Operation: The Bouncers Must Die.”
The backlash was immediate, with many interpreting the slogan as a direct reference to Sensei Mugo and fellow bodybuilder Naison Masaka—both of whom passed away within days of each other.
Sensei Mugo died in a car crash in Harare, sending shockwaves through the fitness and martial arts community.
Social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp groups comprising his friends and fans, were flooded with outrage.
Many condemned the church for what they viewed as a callous and poorly timed message. Some even called for Prophet Williams to be held accountable.
Ironically, Williams is a neighbour of the Muhambi family. In an audio statement obtained by H-Metro, he defended the flyer, saying it was grossly misunderstood.
“Yes, I am a neighbour to the Muhambis and I considered the late Mugove as my brother,” Williams said.
“The poster was designed and circulated on May 3, weeks before his tragic passing. Out of respect, we have since cancelled the event. The theme was spiritual in nature—it had nothing to do with Mugove personally. It was never intended to cause harm or offence.”
Despite the cancellation, the flyer has stirred deep emotions in Epworth and within Zimbabwe’s fitness and martial arts circles. Critics say the theme—regardless of when it was conceived—shows a lack of awareness and empathy.
Sensei Mugo was laid to rest on Monday at the Epworth Cemetery, with thousands in attendance—a testament to his impact and popularity. Among the mourners was Sports Minister Anselem Sanyatwe, who described him as “a true warrior whose discipline, dedication, and service to the community transcended sport.” Several senior government officials also attended the funeral.
Some members of the public have also questioned why Sensei Mugo was not buried at what they consider more “prestigious” cemeteries like Zororo or Glen Forest. However, sources close to the family revealed that the decision to bury him in Epworth was both sentimental and practical. Born and raised in the area before relocating to St Martins, Mugo maintained strong family ties in Epworth. His older brother Elson—a former boxer, fitness trainer, and councillor—is also buried there.
As the controversy begins to subside, community leaders have called for mutual respect in moments of grief and faith, cautioning against divisive language and sensationalism that risks deepening wounds.

The announcement was made earlier today by the Office of the Mayor of Reading, accompanied by a photo of the new Mayor alongside her Deputy, Councillor Paul Gittings.
Councillor Mpofu-Coles, a respected community leader and humanitarian, takes over the ceremonial reins of the town, becoming one of the few Black women to hold the prestigious civic role in Reading’s history. Known for her advocacy on issues such as refugee support, social justice, and integration, Mpofu-Coles brings a wealth of experience and dedication to public service.
Her appointment comes at a time when the town continues to expand its focus on inclusivity, sustainability, and community cohesion.
Councillor Paul Gittings, a seasoned member of the council with decades of service in local government, has been elected Deputy Mayor. Gittings has long been active in environmental and social policy areas, and is expected to support the Mayor’s agenda with his deep institutional knowledge.
Community leaders and residents have hailed the election as a progressive step forward. Formal inauguration activities are scheduled for later this month, with civic events planned throughout the year under the new mayoral leadership.- ZimEye

Harare – 21 May 2025
By Dorrothy Moyo | The Supreme Court of Zimbabwe has upheld the conviction and six-year jail sentence of Alex Tombe, who was found guilty of attempting to solicit a US$20,000 bribe in a high-profile judicial corruption scandal aimed at securing a lighter sentence for convicted gold smuggler Henrietta Rushwaya.
The court confirmed the decision of the High Court, dismissing Tombe’s appeal and reinforcing the judiciary’s stance against corruption. Tombe’s co-accused, former prosecutor Pardon Dziva, is already serving a 10-year sentence for his central role in the bribery scheme.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the scheme was exposed after Progress Maringamoyo, a lawyer still at large, allegedly approached Wellington Takavarasha, a close associate of Rushwaya, claiming that Dziva could influence the outcome of Rushwaya’s sentencing if paid US$20,000.
Rushwaya’s sister, Helliatte, reported the bribery attempt to the Police Anti-Corruption Unit (PACU), which then launched a sting operation. In a carefully coordinated trap, marked bills were prepared and an exchange was arranged at a Kebab restaurant in central Harare. Both Dziva and Tombe were arrested after receiving US$10,000 in marked currency.
While Tombe was not part of the initial negotiation, the Supreme Court found him guilty on the grounds that he knowingly facilitated the handover of the bribe money—an act that directly contravened the law.
This case is one of the most significant rulings to date in the state’s anti-corruption drive and casts a long shadow over Zimbabwe’s judicial system, particularly as it implicates senior legal figures. The fugitive Maringamoyo remains on the run, with authorities urging the public to provide any information on his whereabouts.
The NPA said the ruling sends a clear message: “Judicial corruption will not be tolerated, and every link in the chain of criminal interference will be held accountable.”
By A Correspondent- The education sector is collapsing, with more than 15,000 teachers having resigned or taken early retirement.
The teachers are fleeing the collapsing education sector under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration due to poor salaries, deplorable working conditions, and psychological distress, teachers’ unions have revealed.
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) president Takavafira Zhou said the mass exodus reflects a growing crisis that is crippling the country’s education system, particularly in the sciences where critical shortages are now widespread.
“Yes, we have received such cases,” Zhou said. “What is most worrisome is the delay in processing retirement benefitsfor those who formally retire — some even die before accessing their pensions. The sciences — Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Combined Science and ICT — are the most affected.”
Zhou added that while accurate data is hard to obtain, estimates show that Zimbabwe is losing between 15,000 and 20,000 teachers annually due to desertions.
“These statistics are computable,” he explained. “Apart from monthly provincial reports, the Salary Services Bureau provides monthly updates on members whose dues can no longer be deducted after leaving the profession.”
Zhou accused the government of deliberately punishing teachers, saying many have been demoralised by continuous blame and lack of support, despite doing their best under dire conditions.
“There is a general feeling that the government is fixing teachers for a crime best known to the employer. Many are psychologically affected.”
He also slammed the government’s top-down imposition of curricula reforms with little consultation, planning, or provision of teaching materials.
“There is little room for genuine engagement. The government imposes changes without appropriate educational taxonomy, prudence, interoperability, or standardisation — let alone resources for implementation.”
The exodus of educators marks a deepening crisis in Zimbabwe’s public sector, with long-term implications for the country’s human capital and development prospects.

The Lotteries and Gaming Board has raised alarm over the rapid increase in illegal online gambling activities in Zimbabwe, linking the trend to the country’s worsening economic crisis and a lack of proper regulatory tools.
Presenting a report to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence, Home Affairs, Security Services and War Veterans Affairs, the board acknowledged the widespread growth of unauthorized online betting platforms.
A government source stated, “The report attributed the rise in illegal online gambling to technological advancements, increased accessibility, and the borderless nature of online activities, which pose regulatory enforcement challenges.”
The report also pointed to internal limitations, including staffing shortages, that hinder efforts to shut down illegal gambling operations. “The board also cited inadequate personnel as a hindrance to closing illegal gambling shops sprouting across the country,” the source added.
It further noted a notable increase in both foreign and local investment in the gambling sector in recent years, sparking concerns about the rising concentration of gambling outlets. In response, the board has implemented measures to manage gambling density, including limiting the number of licensed outlets and introducing more rigorous vetting processes for applicants.
The report additionally warned of the potential for gambling platforms to be exploited for illicit financial activities. This has led the board to adopt stricter monitoring and regulatory measures aimed at curbing financial crimes within the industry.

A group of concerned Zimbabwean citizens has made a formal appeal to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, urging them to intervene in what they describe as a national crisis marked by presidential incapacity, widespread corruption, and captured state institutions. The letter, dated 20 May 2025, outlines serious allegations against President Emmerson Mnangagwa and calls for his immediate retirement in the interest of restoring constitutional order and protecting national integrity.
See letter below:

From: The Citizens of Zimbabwe
Date: 20 May 2025
RE: Request for Intervention on State Capture and Presidential Incapacity
Dear Commander Defence Forces,
We, the citizens of Zimbabwe, have sent Blessed Geza to speak on our behalf, highlighting the urgent need for your intervention in addressing the rampant state capture and corruption perpetrated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his associates.
Despite overwhelming evidence, there has been a glaring lack of investigation or accountability, suggesting a culture of impunity. Our constitution, specifically Section 212, empowers the Army to restore order, protect territorial integrity, peace, the rule of law, and democratic institutions.
We bring to your attention the following pressing concerns:
We implore you, as the guardians of our nation’s integrity, to intervene before it’s too late. We seek your assistance in restoring the rule of law, ensuring accountability, and protecting our democratic institutions.
We have faith in the Zimbabwe National Army’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and defending our nation’s interests. We urge you to take swift and decisive action to address these critical issues.
Please note this is just a cover note — a detailed report is attached.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Yours sincerely,
The Citizens of Zimbabwe

Two women from Mutare and Harare are facing legal consequences after allegedly forging Ordinary Level certificates to gain entry into nursing training programs at Parirenyatwa and Chitungwiza hospitals.
The accused are Lisa Chiedza Chivasa (22), from Hobhouse in Mutare, and Tendai Florence Muroiwa from Harare.
Muroiwa has already been convicted and sentenced to one year in prison, wholly suspended on condition of good behavior. She was also ordered to perform 210 hours of community service at Greendale Clinic.
Chivasa appeared before the same magistrate and was granted US$50 bail while awaiting trial.
According to the state, on May 16, 2025, Chivasa misrepresented her academic qualifications while applying to the Parirenyatwa School of Nursing. She submitted a forged certificate claiming to have passed five O’ Level subjects, including a C in Combined Science, a C in Agriculture, and an A in Mathematics.
However, the state alleges that Chivasa actually received an E in Combined Science, a D in Agriculture, and was ungraded in Mathematics.
The forgery was uncovered by human resources manager Macdonald Magavu during a routine verification of credentials. He alerted loss control officers, leading to a police report and Chivasa’s subsequent arrest.
Nomsa Kangara appeared for the state in the matter.

Both Samsung cellphones were on the charger. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
“Police arrested a man for theft. All the stolen cellphones were recovered from the accused person who resides in a separate room to where the complainants stay.

By A Correspondent- At least 15,000 teachers have resigned or taken early retirement, fleeing the collapsing education sector under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration due to poor salaries, deplorable working conditions, and psychological distress, teachers’ unions have revealed.
Today’s workplaces are using more digital tools and becoming more flexible. With more teams and remote work, businesses must find better ways to manage time and productivity. Because of this, there is now a greater need for digital workforce tools. For example, timesheet software is used to track hours, simplify tasks and assist in making better decisions. In this article, we will examine how timesheet software helps modern workplaces become more efficient, accurate and perform better.
Timesheet software is used by businesses to monitor the time employees spend on different tasks, projects or work hours. The main features are tracking time, managing who is present and producing reports. Most tools let employees clock in and out, either by themselves or automatically and managers can review and approve their timesheets. Advanced systems allow you to track your projects, analyze time spent and connect with payroll or project management tools. Using timesheet software instead of manual methods guarantees correct records, saves everyone time and makes things run more smoothly for both parties.
The Timesheet app helps a lot in making project planning more effective. When managers know how employees spend their time, they can use resources more effectively. This information reveals which projects are more urgent and where there are uneven workloads. With time, you can identify patterns that help you improve future project estimates, avoid delays and prevent wasting or lacking resources. As a consequence, businesses can improve how their teams work and guarantee that all deadlines and budgets are met.
Advanced analytics in today’s timesheet tools help turn raw time data into useful productivity information. Managers can check visual dashboards and reports to see how many tasks have been completed, how projects are advancing and how efficient employees are. They help us notice trends in performance, find areas that are not working well and determine which processes should be improved. Using this information, organizations can improve their processes, make workflows more efficient and achieve higher results without adding more work.
Good strategy depends on having accurate information at all times. With timesheet software, you can trust the data you get to help with planning, budgeting and forecasting. The software helps with making decisions about a client’s profitability and future hiring plans by giving accurate information. It helps leaders avoid unexpected issues, be more open, and address business problems before they become serious. In the end, timesheet software helps more than just track time; it also supports the company’s growth over time.
With timesheet software, everyone can see how time is being used within the team. If employees can easily see their time entries, it encourages them to be responsible and trustworthy. When everyone can see the tasks and workloads, there is less chance for misunderstandings. It also encourages team members to take charge of their time. One of the key benefits of timesheet management is this transparency, which helps each employee improve and unites the team around shared goals and standards.
Using timesheet software ensures that performance reviews are based on real data and not on assumptions. Managers can see what each staff member has done by tracking time and tasks accurately. As a result, everyone’s contributions are recognized and the team moves forward using measurable data. When employees are confident they’ll get fair feedback, it makes them feel better and encourages them. Basically, it sets up a system where advancement and rewards depend on how well and how much an employee performs.
With more companies using remote and hybrid work, timesheet software becomes very useful. Employees can use any device to log their hours and handle their tasks, whether they are at home, in the office or traveling. Because of this, work can be done efficiently from any place. Team members are informed in real time and managers can see how the work is progressing without having to watch over every detail. Working flexibly and still being responsible helps employees balance their work and personal lives, feel more independent and be happier at work.
Selecting the best timesheet software means looking at how it matches your team’s priorities. Automation, real-time status, reporting features and simple user interfaces should be your main priorities. Combining systems is required your new software should be easy to use with your current payroll, HR and project management applications. A system is valuable if it supports your business growth yet stays easy to understand. Protecting employee data should be a top priority when creating your network. Any solution worth using will handle functionality, work in any situation and be secure for long-term compliance.
Using timesheet software helps managers and employees plan better, work more efficiently and achieve more. It changes time tracking from a simple task into a useful way to make decisions and hold people accountable. With more digital and flexible workplaces, using dependable timesheet software helps a business succeed in the long run. When workflows are improved and transparency is supported, it changes from a tracking tool to a key factor in sustainable growth and efficiency.

A credit controller at Varichem Pharmaceutical Company was on Wednesday arraigned before the court facing charges of theft of trust property after allegedly embezzling US$300,000 from his employer.
Milton Goremusandu, 42, appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa, who remanded him in custody until Thursday for a bail ruling.
Goremusandu is alleged to have committed the offence in collaboration with his subordinate, Edwell Sibanda, a debtor’s clerk, who is already on remand.
According to court documents, earlier this month the complainant received a tip-off from a whistleblower indicating that Goremusandu and Sibanda were working together to steal funds from the company.
“A preliminary internal investigation revealed that between 2021 and May 2025, the accused collected cash from various company clients—Trinity Pharmacy (US$252,930), Vidamac Pharmaceuticals (US$36,350), Asca Health Care (US$33,220), and Care Point Pharmacy Chinhoyi (US$24,829)—but failed to bank or submit the received funds,” read the court papers.
Goremusandu allegedly instructed Sibanda to process fraudulent journal entries that debited customers who did not owe the company and credited those who had paid, in a bid to conceal the theft.
Using this method, the accused is said to have prejudiced the company of a total of US$347,329.
The matter was reported to the police on 12 May 2025, leading to Sibanda’s arrest at his workplace two days later.
On 18 May 2025, police searched Goremusandu’s residence and recovered a grey Toyota Fortuner SUV valued at approximately US$60,000 and a white Toyota Corolla Axio worth around US$10,000. The vehicles, believed to be proceeds of the crime, were found in the possession of his wife, Miranda Rutendo Mativenga.
The total amount allegedly stolen stands at US$347,329, with two motor vehicles valued at US$70,000 being held as exhibits

Warriors head coach Michael Nees and his assistant Takesure Chiragwi will not be available to lead the national team at the upcoming COSAFA tournament.
The duo is set to travel to Morocco with the senior national team, which is scheduled to play two international friendly matches against Niger and Burkina Faso.
With their absence confirmed, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has begun the search for an interim coach to guide the Warriors during the COSAFA competition.
Last year, the team was led at the tournament by Jairos Tapera, who stepped in on a temporary basis. It remains to be seen whether ZIFA will turn to him again or appoint a new face to take charge of the campaign.

Zanu PF MP for Mberengwa Central, Tinashe Shumba, is at the centre of controversy after the rapid construction of a fuel service station near Mucheke River in Masvingo, raising concerns about political influence and regulatory shortcuts.
The GTS-branded station, believed to stand for “Goga Tinashe Shumba” — a combination of the MP’s nickname and initials — was completed and operational within five weeks.
Located in the proposed site for Masvingo’s new Central Business District and smart city, it is currently the only structure in the undeveloped zone.
Shumba, who has a background in gold mining and was once a security guard, denied ownership of the station. “I’m merely a contractor at the site,” he told The Masvingo Mirror, distancing himself from direct links to GTS despite evidence from Chronicle identifying him as the proprietor of multiple GTS stations in Mberengwa and Kwekwe.
The project initially faced resistance from the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), which halted construction in February for non-compliance.
“The new GTS service station was ordered to stop construction work on 11 February 2025 because it did not yet have an EMA certificate of development,” said an official at EMA Masvingo.
However, the ban was lifted within days, and by May 12, the station was already serving customers.
Critics argue the speed and approval process reflect preferential treatment. “If it were any ordinary citizen, they’d still be battling with paperwork. This is what unchecked political power looks like,” said a local resident who declined to be named.
Shumba is no stranger to controversy. In 2024, the Deputy Judge President, Justice Garainesu Mawadze, issued a court order barring him and Kubatana Mining Syndicate from evicting villagers in Mberengwa in pursuit of gold mining. Villagers accused him of using armed men to intimidate them and boasting that no authority could stop him.
According to Chronicle, Shumba rose from humble beginnings to become a symbol of government empowerment, leveraging gold mining ventures to build a growing business empire that now includes fuel retail.
Whether the GTS service station is a mark of entrepreneurial success or a case of political privilege remains a divisive question in Masvingo — but for now, the pumps are running.

Call for Intervention by Citizens to the Zimbabwe National Army on State Capture and Presidential Incapacity
We, the citizens of Zimbabwe, implore the Zimbabwe National Army to intervene in the pressing issues of state capture and presidential incapacity. The current administration, led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been marred by corruption, nepotism, and regionalism, resulting in widespread suffering and the undermining of the rule of law.
Corruption
President Mnangagwa and his close associates have been involved in numerous corrupt activities, including:
• Corruptly awarding companies formerly owned by the Zimbabwe National Army to Kuda Tagwirei.
• Awarding state tenders to cartels without following procurement procedures.
• Involvement in the “goat project,” involving the transfer of funds to Mnangagwa’s account in the Mpofu and Chimombe court case.
• Forcibly seizing mines from their rightful owners and awarding them to Mnangagwa’s family members and associates.
• Awarding tenders to cartels that charge unreasonable and exorbitant prices, with 100% funding from the Treasury, yet no work has been done. A case in point is Wicknell Chivhayo, who was awarded the Gwanda Solar Project, but to date, nothing has materialised. Over and above that, Chivhayo received millions of dollars even after a court challenge by ZESA.
Failure to Address Bread and Butter Issues
The President has failed to address critical issues affecting ordinary Zimbabweans, including:
• Poor remuneration for civil servants, with salaries below the poverty datum line.
• High unemployment rates, leading to increased crime and drug abuse among the youth.
• Essential services have collapsed due to corruption and mismanagement. Vision 2030 should focus on upgrading and building new infrastructure, not merely maintaining existing structures. Hospitals are in a dire and deplorable state. Our roads have become death traps for our loved ones. Poor water reticulation systems are a public health hazard. Everything is now being termed a “presidential scheme,” raising serious questions about the role of line ministries.
• Natural resources are being diverted for personal gain rather than being channelled through relevant ministries for the benefit of all Zimbabweans.
Presidential Incapacity
There are growing concerns about the President’s health, specifically vascular dementia, which may impair his ability to perform his duties. According to Section 97 of the Constitution, if the President is incapacitated due to a medical condition, Parliament should investigate with a view to his removal from office. Section 97 clearly outlines the grounds for removal: gross misconduct, wilful violation of the Constitution, and physical or mental incapacity. There is clear evidence that President Mnangagwa has violated the Constitution, which warrants his removal from office.
Attempt to Extend Presidential Term Limit
The 2030 Agenda includes a plan to amend the Constitution to extend the presidential term limit to 2030, in violation of Sections 91(2) and 328(7). This attempt has received mixed reactions, with the majority supporting the 2013 Constitution as it stands. Amending the Constitution requires two separate referendums, a costly process that diverts funds from critical needs such as healthcare. Our road network has become deadly, and water reticulation failures pose serious health risks. We, the citizens, oppose any constitutional amendment designed to benefit Emmerson Mnangagwa and his close associates.
Human Rights Abuses
The current regime stands accused of numerous human rights abuses, including:
• Suppression of Freedom of Speech, Association, and Expression
The regime has deployed the police to deter citizens from peacefully demonstrating, despite constitutional guarantees of these freedoms.
• Arbitrary Arrests and Detention
On March 31, 109 citizens were arrested and only granted bail after one month. Journalist Blessed Mhlanga was also arrested and spent nearly three months in remand prison before being granted bail.
• Compromised Judiciary
Zimbabwe’s judiciary has been captured and compromised, eroding public trust and allowing those in power to act with impunity.
Nepotism, Regionalism, and Tribalism
The President has consistently promoted nepotism and regionalism, appointing relatives and extended family to key positions and prioritising personal and regional interests over national well-being.
We, the citizens of Zimbabwe, urge the Zimbabwe National Army to intervene in these urgent matters to restore the rule of law, accountability, and transparency.
We have appended our signatures as citizens from all 10 provinces on the attached separate page.

Foreign nationals in Gauteng Province, South Africa, must now pay set fees to access public healthcare services, as provincial authorities implement stricter cost-recovery measures.
The move has sparked debate amid growing concerns about access to emergency medical services for non-citizens.
A recent case involved a Zimbabwean national who was billed R5,000 (about US$278) after receiving emergency care at a public hospital in the province — a clear example of the province’s new billing policy in action.
“These tariffs are necessary. We’re not a charity organisation — we have to ensure our facilities are sustainable,” said a senior official from the Gauteng Department of Health, who confirmed the new fee structure.
The department outlined the following standard charges for foreign nationals:
Outpatient/Emergency Visit: R5,000 (US$278)
Cardiology Services: R125,000 (US$6,965)
Cancer-related Conditions: R120,000 (US$6,686)
Medical Cases: R50,000 (US$2,786)
Routine Surgical Cases: R50,000 (US$2,786)
All Maternity Cases: R15,000 (US$835)
The Gauteng authorities argue the policy is aimed at managing the financial strain on its health system and ensuring public facilities can recover costs for services rendered to non-residents.
However, critics warn that the high fees could prevent vulnerable individuals from seeking life-saving care. “This policy could deter people from coming forward in emergencies — it’s a dangerous precedent,” said one health rights advocate who asked to remain anonymous.
As the debate continues, human rights groups are calling for a balance between cost recovery and the right to health for all people, regardless of nationality.
Ziyambi Defends Zimbabwe’s Debt Strategy in Parliament, Calls for Written Queries on “Disputable” Stats
Harare – 21 May 2025
Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi on Wednesday defended the government’s handling of Zimbabwe’s national debt, telling Parliament that while statistical claims about the country’s debt levels may be “disputable,” the situation is being actively managed through regional and international mechanisms.
Responding to tough questions from opposition MPs about rising debt concerns, Ziyambi urged lawmakers to submit detailed queries in writing, stating that some figures being circulated require interrogation and verification.
“The question is based on some statistical analysis figures that I may not agree with,” Ziyambi said during the session. “These figures need to be interrogated, and I believe the House deserves the actual data on the debt.”
Ziyambi revealed that Zimbabwe is working through a debt resolution programme championed by former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano, in collaboration with African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina. The programme aims to bring together creditors and stakeholders for a high-level debt roundtable on May 26 under the AfDB’s auspices.
“We are engaging at the highest level to resolve our debt situation,” said Ziyambi. “What is very important is that we have managed to clear our arrears with the IMF — we don’t owe them anything. The rest of the debt is manageable.”
The Justice Minister emphasized that further clarity will be provided in a formal response if Parliamentarians present their questions in writing, allowing government to table a comprehensive report showing “our debt status in actual percentages.”
Zimbabwe’s public debt remains a sensitive issue, with critics warning it is crowding out social spending and public investment. As of early 2025, Treasury estimates indicated that total public debt had surpassed US$18 billion, including external arrears. The government, however, insists it is pursuing debt clearance and restructuring under a credible roadmap.
More updates are expected following the May 26 debt dialogue involving the African Development Bank and other key partners.- ZimEye

Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) has suspended one of its students, Linos Munogweyi, for allegedly posting “threatening and derogatory” remarks against the institution’s management on a WhatsApp group, a move that has sparked debate over academic freedom and freedom of expression.
In a letter dated May 13, 2025, GZU Registrar Dr. S. Gwatidzo informed Munogweyi of the verdict following a disciplinary hearing held on May 2. The Student Disciplinary Committee found him guilty of contravening the university’s code of conduct and the Great Zimbabwe University Act.
“On 15 February 2025, at about 2054 hours, you used a WhatsApp group to unlawfully and intentionally post threatening and derogatory messages against the University Management, inciting other students to take action,” reads part of the letter.
As a result, the university has suspended Munogweyi for two semesters, with immediate effect. The letter further warns that any repeat of the offense will lead to “further and more severe disciplinary action.”
The development has drawn sharp criticism from student activists and opposition figures. Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youth assembly spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma condemned the suspension, calling it an attack on students’ rights.
“This is simply unacceptable by GZU,” Chuma said. “We can’t have tertiary institutions suspending students for exercising their freedoms. A university should be a place of sharing new horizons of knowledge, not muzzling of students.”
The university has not publicly detailed the specific contents of Munogweyi’s messages, but sources say the student had expressed dissatisfaction over administrative issues and called for student mobilisation.
Critics argue that GZU’s disciplinary measures are becoming increasingly punitive, stifling dissent and curtailing the democratic space within higher education institutions.
As of now, Munogweyi remains suspended and has acknowledged receipt of the disciplinary verdict. It is unclear whether he intends to appeal the decision.

In a strategic move widely seen as an effort to consolidate political dominance in rural Zimbabwe, the ruling ZANU PF party has pledged nearly US$15,000 to fund income-generating projects in Mwenezi East’s Ward 15—just months after a series of similar rollouts in other rural constituencies.
The funding, announced by Mwenezi East legislator Honourable Sheilla Chikomo during a community gathering in the Turf area on Monday, will support poultry, fish, and goat farming initiatives. While officially framed as empowerment, the timing and focus of the financial injection have sparked debate over whether the ruling party is leveraging development funds to cement loyalty ahead of future elections.
“This is an ongoing programme. We want our people to be empowered and to stop relying on handouts,” Chikomo said. “As the President always says, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’, we are fulfilling our promises to the electorate.”
The pledge is targeted at beneficiaries aligned with all wings of the party, a detail that critics argue exposes a deeper political agenda disguised as economic support. In a region long regarded as a ZANU PF stronghold, the latest cash injection may serve more as a campaign tool than a development intervention, analysts suggest.
Despite the controversy, residents expressed cautious optimism about the projects, which they hope will bring lasting change to the remote community’s economy. Whether the initiative delivers on that promise—or merely serves as another means of political entrenchment—remains to be seen.

Okahandja, Namibia – 21 May 2025
Joseph Madhimba, a towering figure in Zimbabwe’s media and academic circles, has died in Namibia. He passed away this morning in Okahandja, about 60km north of Windhoek, after a prolonged illness stemming from a stroke suffered in early 2024. He was 70.
Madhimba was one of the most iconic newsreaders in the history of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), having joined the broadcaster shortly after Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980. Trained in journalism in Montpelier, France, and with a stint at Agence France-Presse (AFP), Madhimba brought a rare sophistication to Zimbabwean newsrooms during ZBC’s golden era—an era tragically curtailed by political capture.
He rose from sub-editor to lead newsreader under the stewardship of Claude Mararike, then head of news. Madhimba’s deep voice, composure, and commanding presence became synonymous with evening news bulletins, where he worked alongside other luminaries such as Grey Tichatonga, John Gambanga, Busi Chindove, Isidore Gwashure, Robin Shava, Everisto Mwatse, Caleb Thondhlana, Patrick Nyamhunga, Dorcas Munyoro, Praexedes Dzingare, Noreen Welch, Themba Bassopo-Moyo, and the late Alice Chavunduka.
Despite the exceptional talent at ZBC, the broadcaster quickly became a casualty of state control, with ZANU PF transforming it into a crude propaganda vehicle. This political interference not only stifled creativity and professionalism but also ruined the credibility and viability of what could have been a continental media powerhouse. Madhimba’s departure from ZBC mirrored the exodus of talent frustrated by the channel’s politicisation and decline.
After leaving broadcasting, Madhimba relocated to Namibia where he transitioned into academia and finance. He lectured at the Polytechnic of Namibia and built a respected profile in the region’s educational and financial sectors.
He suffered a debilitating stroke in early 2024 which eventually led to heart failure. Madhimba had been in and out of hospital for the past 12 months before his passing.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon.
Mourners across Zimbabwe and Namibia have begun paying tribute to a man remembered not just for his impeccable delivery on screen, but also for his intellectual depth and quiet defiance in the face of a shrinking media space.- ZimEye

Former legislator and outspoken political commentator Killer Zivhu has weighed in on the unfolding drama surrounding war veteran Blessed Geza, claiming the embattled figure was used as a sacrificial pawn by his associates to test President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s response to opposition against the controversial 2030 term extension agenda.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Zivhu stated, “This comrade was used by his friends to test ED’s reaction regarding 2030. They exploited him, knowing they lacked the power to remove ED. Now, they’re enjoying life with their families while the comrade is in hiding.”
Zivhu’s comments come amid reports that Geza has gone into hiding after issuing a fiery public address accusing Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga of betraying the liberation struggle and enabling state capture. The speech sparked national attention, particularly as it invoked military imagery and constitutional arguments about leadership failure.
In a further jab, Zivhu warned the public against following leaders “who are clueless,” bluntly stating in Shona, “Geza waperara uyu” (Geza is finished). His post was accompanied by an image calling for Geza’s arrest on charges of treason and inciting a coup.
Zivhu’s assertion implies that internal actors within or around ZANU PF may be testing the waters for dissent, but using less influential figures like Geza to gauge the consequences—while distancing themselves from any backlash.
Meanwhile, legal and political observers have pointed out that calls for arresting Geza over his statement could be unconstitutional and violate his right to free expression, particularly where it concerns public interest on presidential fitness and constitutional governance.
The controversy also reflects deeper tensions within the ruling elite about Mnangagwa’s alleged ambitions to extend his term beyond constitutional limits, a move that has attracted both domestic and international scrutiny.
As of now, Blessed Geza’s whereabouts remain unknown, and no formal legal proceedings have been announced. However, the calls for his arrest, amplified by state-linked social media accounts, suggest that the state may be building a narrative to isolate or criminalize dissenters ahead of a possible constitutional showdown.

As Namibia’s newly inaugurated President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah begins her diplomatic engagement with Zimbabwe, her visit has stirred questions over whether she will confront President Emmerson Mnangagwa on his government’s alleged human rights abuses.
While the official agenda of President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s visit to Harare focuses on strengthening bilateral ties and promoting regional cooperation, critics and human rights activists are urging her to use the opportunity to speak out against the repression of dissent, abductions of opposition members, and continued clampdowns on civic space in Zimbabwe.
Political analyst Jeffryson Chitando expressed hope that the Namibian leader will not shy away from addressing the issue. “We hope Ndaitwah will reprimand Mnangagwa over gross violation of human rights. As a respected figure in the region and a woman with a strong liberation background, her voice carries weight,” Chitando said.
The visit, part of Nandi-Ndaitwah’s familiarisation tour of SADC member states, comes amid increasing scrutiny of Zimbabwe’s human rights record, especially after the controversial 2023 general elections and rising reports of politically motivated arrests.
Although her itinerary includes discussions on trade, agriculture, energy, and education, civil society groups argue that silence on human rights violations would be a missed opportunity for the Namibian president to assert a moral and democratic stance.
“It’s time regional leaders stop treating human rights as a side issue,” said one Harare-based activist. “True regional solidarity must include standing up for the oppressed.”
Whether President Nandi-Ndaitwah will use her diplomatic platform to address these concerns remains to be seen—but expectations are high among those hoping for a shift in SADC’s often-muted response to governance issues within member states.

A 22-year-old illegal gold panner, Omega Mazivangeyi, tragically lost his life last Saturday after suffocating in a poorly ventilated mine shaft at Zaina Mine in Penhalonga.
According to Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, Mazivangeyi died after inhaling toxic gas deep inside a 20-meter shaft. “Mazivangeyi breathed in a toxic gas that killed him instantly,” said Chinyoka.
Mazivangeyi, from Nyabadza Village under Chief Mutasa in Honde Valley, had entered the mine in the company of a friend, Gift Mtetwa. The two arrived at the disused mine around 11 a.m. with the intention of illegally panning for gold.
“Mazivangeyi used a rope to descend into the shaft while Mtetwa remained outside. After a while, Mtetwa noticed that Mazivangeyi was not responding and climbed down to check on him,” explained Chinyoka.
However, upon entering the shaft, Mtetwa was quickly overwhelmed by the gas and had to climb out immediately. He then alerted fellow panners who assisted in reporting the incident to Penhalonga Police Station.
A joint operation by the police and Redwing Mine’s rescue team was launched, resulting in the retrieval of Mazivangeyi’s body. Authorities discovered that the shaft had been sealed off using soil and logs, severely restricting airflow.
“This shaft had limited ventilation, which contributed to the accumulation of toxic gases inside,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Authorities have since reiterated the dangers of illegal mining, especially in unregulated and abandoned shafts, warning that such activities continue to claim lives.
The body of the deceased was taken to the local mortuary for a post-mortem.
Six Chinese Nationals Granted Bail After Trespassing and Erecting Illegal Structures at Protected Chiredzi Mine
Chiredzi – 21 May 2025
By Dorrothy Moyo | Six Chinese nationals who illegally invaded a protected mining site and began constructing buildings without the owners’ consent were yesterday granted US$200 bail each by Chiredzi Magistrate Tendai Mutamba.
The accused — Huang Dongqiang, Liang Xiaoan, Li Anming, Huang Honguei, Chen Qinbo, and Yuan Feng — are jointly charged with local accomplice Nyasha Chauke. They face allegations of unlawfully refusing to vacate Oneiric Mine in Ndali, which is registered under special grant number 7809.
According to court records, the group was arrested on Thursday by detectives from the Chiredzi Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit (CID MFFU) following a complaint by the mine owners.
Prosecutors said the Chinese nationals, who reside at Mupinga Business Centre, conspired with Chauke to enter the mine without permission. They began erecting permanent structures on the site despite warnings from the rightful owners.
The mine operators reportedly discovered the developments on April 21, 2025, and formally ordered the group to halt construction on May 7. However, the accused continued with their activities, prompting a police report.
When questioned by law enforcement, the suspects failed to produce any legal documents authorising their presence or construction activities on the site.
All seven accused have been remanded to appear in court again on June 5 as investigations continue. Authorities say more charges may be considered depending on the outcome of the probe.
This case adds to growing tensions around foreign involvement in Zimbabwe’s mining sector, where allegations of illegal extraction, land invasions, and environmental violations have become increasingly common.- ZimEye
Flooding Crisis Hits University of Zimbabwe’s NC1 Hostel, Students Displaced
Harare – 21 May 2025
By A Correspondent | A dozen University of Zimbabwe (UZ) students have been displaced following a severe flooding incident at the NC1 hostel, sparking outrage over the institution’s deteriorating infrastructure and continued neglect of student welfare.
Footage shared by the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) shows water gushing through corridors and pooling across hostel floors, with some rooms rendered completely uninhabitable. Students can be seen wading through ankle-deep water as they attempt to salvage belongings.
“This is NC1, a UZ hostel which is flooding. The institution has not only failed to pay lecturers but even to provide basic services for students,” ZINASU posted, questioning who would bear the cost of emergency alternative accommodation.
The flooding, whose source remains unconfirmed, is being interpreted as symptomatic of broader governance failures at the institution. Critics say the crisis highlights a chronic neglect of infrastructure maintenance, while the university continues to face allegations of financial mismanagement and poor prioritization of resources.
“This is not just water damage. This is evidence of a system that has completely broken down,” said a student who requested anonymity. “There are no contingency plans, no emergency response, and no accountability.”
The flooding comes amid broader unrest at UZ, where lecturers have repeatedly gone unpaid and student amenities continue to collapse. Parents and guardians are now demanding answers from university authorities on why safety and sanitation standards are being ignored.
The university has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident or the relocation plan for affected students.

Authorities say Mpofu accused the elderly woman of bewitching him — a claim that has sparked outrage and reignited concerns about the continued violence related to witchcraft allegations in rural Zimbabwe.
Christine Ncube sustained severe burns in the attack but was rescued by fellow villagers. She was initially treated at St Luke’s Hospital before being transferred to Mpilo Hospital for further care.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police condemned the incident and reminded citizens that such acts of violence are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of belief systems. Investigations are ongoing.

SHADAYA RETREAT FLOP SPARKS BACKLASH: Social Media Claps Back at ‘Alpha Male’ Icon
21 May 2025
By Showbiz Reporter | A men’s retreat headlined by controversial “alpha male” influencer Shadaya Knight flopped spectacularly over the weekend, prompting ridicule across social media — with even DJ Sparks, known for his own polarizing takes, declaring, “The Alpha male community failed their own GOAT.”
The event, branded as a “Men’s Getaway Trip With Shadaya,” was scheduled for 16-18 May with a US$220 entry fee, promising participants accommodation, quad bikes, zip-lining, and even a “summit” on Mt. Nyangani. But it appears the hype didn’t translate into turnout, with eyewitnesses and social media users suggesting it was either sparsely attended or altogether abandoned.
…..
The Alpha Bubble Bursts
Shadaya, who rose to fame via misogynistic social media commentary targeting single mothers and “modern women,” appears to have miscalculated the strength of his following in real life. As DJ Sparks bluntly put it, “This event flopped beyond recognition.”
Commenters echoed a common sentiment: that Shadaya’s rise was artificially inflated by controversy and algorithmic promotion — not genuine influence or community support. “Social media can elevate idiots to places they do not deserve,” wrote one Facebook user. “You insult a group of people and the next day you are a ceRebrity.”
Another user added: “CarpeDem happened… saka paive pakashata,” referencing a previous controversial influencer whose following also crashed after public backlash.
Women Clap Back
Tanya Sawadye, one of many commenters slamming Shadaya, noted: “That guy only eats because he insults women, especially single mothers… Maybe he should have charged single mothers to come confront him or punch him. He would have made money that way because that’s how he eats.”
When challenged on her assertion that women should be “worshipped” by the likes of Shadaya, she doubled down: “They are his god — they feed him.”
The Lesson?
Ironically, the most striking takeaway is that DJ Sparks — often dismissed for superficial content — is the one asking meaningful questions. ZimEye’s post sums it up: “What’s the lesson here, if DJ Sparks is sparking some sense?”
This event’s failure highlights a broader truth: performative masculinity online does not equal real-world support. Shadaya’s echo chamber may be loud on Twitter, but it’s silent where it counts — in the seats.
As one commenter put it: “Shadaya abooker cage match uko” — a jab at how he’s better off stirring drama than hosting actual leadership retreats.
The Shadaya flop may serve as a watershed moment for Zimbabwean influencer culture. It has exposed the fragility of platforms built on division, misogyny, and rage. As the dust settles, it seems Zimbabwe’s so-called “alpha male” movement may have met its beta moment.- ZimEye

Zimdancehall sensation Jimmy Mudereri, widely known as Silent Killer, has hit back at a US$122,170 lawsuit filed by UK-based promoter Y2K Entertainment Music and Arts, following accusations that he failed to perform at a major international festival.
The legal action stems from Silent Killer’s alleged no-show at the SAMA Festival in Leicester on April 19, 2025. According to Y2K Entertainment, the artist was expected to perform alongside a lineup of top Zimbabwean acts, but he allegedly refused to board his flight despite checking in at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on April 18.
Organisers say they were forced to make costly last-minute arrangements to replace the artist, leading to significant financial losses and major disruptions to the event.
In response, Silent Killer has dismissed the lawsuit and expressed his readiness to defend himself in court, maintaining that he will address the matter through proper legal channels.
By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Citizens Coalition for Change Member of Parliament, Happymore Chidziva who was accused of raping a minor girl three times last year has been cleared of wrongdoing by a Harare magistrate.
Chidziva was found not guilty by magistrate Letwin Rwodzi after a full trial during which he denied the allegations.
In acquitting him, the court ruled prosecution had insufficient evidence warranting a conviction.
Prosecutors were alleging that Chodziva raped the minor after promising her employment and a better life.
The court heard the first incident allegedly took place at a hotel in Harare in April last year.
Chidziva was accused of having given the girl US$25 after the abuse.
It was also alleged that he instructed her to buy morning after pill using the money to avoid pregnancy.
The court was further told that Chidziva allegedly abused the girl in July last year.
It was alleged that she told her that he had found a job for but took her a lodge in Waterfalls where he allegedly raped her again.
It was also alleged that Chidziva raped the girl in August last year at a hotel in Harare.
At that time the girl was staying with her friend and her family in Ushewekunze.
Her family had also made a report for a issuing person because the girl did not return home when Chidziva allegedly called her in July 2023.
The magistrate said there was no evidence linking him to the alleged crime.
Rwodzi also said the state failed to prove that Chidziva had promised the minor a job.
With improved internet and increased smartphone usage, numerous new digital businesses are beginning to flourish. One of the rapidly growing entertainment sectors globally right now is iGaming. It encompasses online casino gaming, slots, sports betting, and other online gaming. In Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and South Africa, iGaming has been a tremendous source of revenue and employment. Now, Zimbabwe has a real chance to build its own iGaming industry and benefit from it. If done right, this could become one of Zimbabwe’s strongest digital opportunities.
Zimbabweans have increasingly turned to the internet over the last couple of years for day-to-day activities. From online financial services such as EcoCash to banking and shopping applications, the nation is gradually becoming more digital. The majority of citizens connect to the web via mobile phones, meaning they are already utilizing the same type of technology behind iGaming sites. Furthermore, most of the population of Zimbabwe is young. Young individuals are generally more apt to experiment with new technology and digital entertainment, particularly if they find it interesting and enjoy it.
This is the reason why iGaming is so ideal for Zimbabwe. Online gaming websites can provide anything from live games, sports books, and casino games that all gamers can access on a smartphone. If Zimbabwe provides the correct climate for iGaming companies, then jobs could increase, tax revenues to the government will be higher, and the youth will utilize their digital skills for a productive cause.
One of the largest obstacles for those who wish to begin an iGaming company is obtaining access to well-known and trusted games. This is where aggregators such as Hub88 come in. They provide easy-to-use software, such as casino slots aggregator software, that allows companies to provide a huge amount of varied games via a single easy solution. Instead of negotiating with each individual game developer, entrepreneurs can join Hub88 and be instantly ready to provide hundreds of top-tier games from major developers.
It makes it much cheaper and quicker to launch an online casino. It also enables customers to enjoy a superior experience, with better choices, high-quality, fairness, and well-proven games. The technology also encompasses key tools to assist businesses with regulation compliance, player protection, and smooth-running operations.
There is also significant value in dealing with quality casino game providers, and Hub88 assists in bringing them to casinos. The providers create the games that players get to play. Some of the most recognized providers have exciting slot machines, card games, live dealer games, and much more. These games are created to run well on both computers and phone devices.
Feature | Why It Matters |
One-time Integration | Connects you to many games at once |
Fast Launch | Get your online casino up and running quickly |
Trusted Game Providers | Access popular, fair, and tested games |
Fewer Technical Challenges | Easy to use without needing advanced coding |
Support for Regulations | Helps meet legal and safety requirements |
Zimbabwe has to do its share of work before iGaming can develop in the right way. The country needs strong laws that support online betting companies while also protecting players. Right now, there are only a few rules for online gambling, which puts both business owners and gamblers at risk. To address this, the government should strive to learn from other nations. For example, countries like the United Kingdom and Malta have strong systems in place that guarantee games are not rigged and firms are not shady.
Provided Zimbabwe adopts fair regulations, local businesses and other investors will be safely able to build their own platforms. This would create more jobs in areas like customer support, website upkeep, content writing, and advertising. Schools and training centers can also begin offering programs that prepare individuals with the skills to work in iGaming, so the young people can learn tech and business skills.
Online news sites and outlets like ZimEye.net have also been discussing the future of Zimbabwe and the rise of digital industries. As more become educated of the potential of iGaming, the nation may be more receptive to embracing and developing this exciting new industry.
iGaming Could Spark a Digital Business Boom in Zimbabwe
If Zimbabwe makes it happen, iGaming can be one of the country’s most successful digital industries. Zimbabweans use mobile phones, mobile wallets, and web entertainment in great numbers. Thanks to aggregators like Hub88, it no longer takes massive amounts of capital or technical expertise to launch an iGaming business. Entrepreneurs can now start a business with less risk and more chances of success.
The benefits extend beyond the bottom line. A sufficiently regulated iGaming sector can provide employment, draw in foreign investment, boost tax revenues, and provide the youth with new opportunities to acquire useful digital skills. Zimbabwe can also position itself as a gateway to iGaming for the whole of Southern Africa, assisting neighboring nations in developing their own digital entertainment sectors.

Former Dynamos player, popularly known as Monya for Hire, has delivered a scathing critique of Bernard Marriott Lusengo’s leadership, accusing him of running down the once-revered football club.
“We stand with genuine and loyal Dynamos supporters,” he declared. “I’m not speaking out because I’m bitter about no longer being at the club—I have a good job that provides for my family. What I’m bitter about is how the team has been mismanaged under the current leadership.”
Monya emphasized that his passion for Dynamos runs deep and that his criticism stems from love for the club. “Serving Dynamos came with sacrifices. Some of us are now living with disabilities because of our time on the pitch, and we are still owed money which we haven’t even demanded back—out of respect for the badge.”
He accused Marriott of ignoring warnings and surrounding himself with unsuitable personnel. “During my time at the club, I consistently raised concerns about his leadership. I told him that appointing the wrong people for the wrong reasons would destroy the team. Instead of addressing the issues, I was framed and pushed out.”
The former player also took issue with Marriott’s alleged hostility towards club legends. “The way he mistreats former players makes you question whether he ever truly played for Dynamos. Just look at how he treated Richard Chihoro (MHDSRIP), a man who stood by him for over 40 years. That speaks volumes about his character.”
Calling for a new era of openness, he concluded, “We want accountability and transparency, not empty promises. Our concerns are legitimate, and we won’t be silenced.
Dynamos is more than just a team—it’s family. All we want is to see it evolve, grow, and thrive, not remain trapped in stagnation.”

Zimbabweans based in the United Kingdom have launched a campaign to block First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s upcoming visit to the UK in June, accusing her of being complicit in human rights abuses and the continued suffering of Zimbabweans under the ZANU-PF regime.
The First Lady is reportedly expected to attend the FLAIR Summit, where she is slated to speak on women’s empowerment—a move that has sparked outrage among the Zimbabwean diaspora, who say she has no credibility to speak on such matters.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, activist Shamiso Moyo took to Twitter over the weekend, rallying Zimbabweans in the diaspora to unite and act.
“Together we can stop this enabler from coming to the UK. Time to mobilise and say no—she is a cruel woman who enjoys the suffering of fellow women,” said Moyo.
Moyo, like many in the diaspora, is accusing Auxillia Mnangagwa of being part of a regime that has overseen economic collapse, political repression, and gender-based violence in Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabweans, we can stop this tyranny—@edmnangagwa—if we come together. ED and family must be pushed back. Auxillia needs to be pushed back. She is a mafia and she knows nothing about empowerment of women,” she added.
In one of the more controversial calls, she said, “Please gather rotten eggs and bless her with the eggs.”
Critics say Mnangagwa’s appearance at an international women’s summit is a stark contradiction to her record back home.
“Auxillia Mnangagwa cannot be allowed to come to the FLAIR Summit to speak about women empowerment which she has no clue about. For 45 years she has been part of ZANU-PF which has championed the downfall of Zimbabwe. For the past 8 years she has been a useless First Lady,” read another widely circulated post from Moyo.
The campaign to block her visit comes amid growing frustration among Zimbabweans abroad, many of whom fled the country due to political persecution and economic hardship.
Organisers are reportedly planning protests and are lobbying UK authorities to deny her entry or at least bar her from participating in the event.
As of now, there has been no official response from the First Lady’s office regarding the planned UK visit or the protests.
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has approached the High Court seeking an order declaring some provisions of the Private Voluntary Organisations (PVO) Amendment Act unconstitutional and to have them annulled.
According to ZLHR, some of these provisions arbitrarily criminalize legitimate and critical development and human rights activities, while imposing excessive regulations on PVOs.
In an application filed on May 16, ZLHR contended that the PVO Amendment Act, which was enacted and published in the Government Gazette on April 11, 2025, represents a significant infringement on the rights of its members, as the organization is an independent entity established by law.
“ZLHR opines that the impugned amendments contained in the PVO Amendment Act constitute unconstitutional over-regulation, over legislation and criminalisation of innocent important charitable, developmental and human rights work.”
The organisation further argues that the PVO Amendment Act violates various constitutional rights, including the freedom of assembly and association outlined in section 58(1), freedom of expression under section 61, the right to administrative justice guaranteed by sections 68(1) and (2), the right to a fair hearing protected by section 69(1), (2), and (3), and section 71, which safeguards property rights. ZLHR also claims that the problematic provisions of the PVO Amendment Act are vague, poorly drafted, and grant arbitrary powers, resulting in over-regulation of PVOs.
“The PVO Amendment Act centralises arbitrary power in the hands of the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare and the Registrar’s office, leading to excessive executive interference in the internal operations of PVOs,” the organisation said in its application.
It said these provisions effectively empower the Executive to control PVOs and deregister those deemed undesirable on unclear grounds.
In light of these concerns, ZLHR seeks a High Court order of constitutional invalidity for sections 4, 5 as read with section 9(5), sections 6, 13A, 14, and 21 of the Private Voluntary Organisations Act (as amended by the PVO Amendment Act) to be declared ultra vires the Constitution and subsequently set aside.
The order will be subject to confirmation by the Constitutional Court in accordance with section 175(1) of the Constitution, and that any constitutional invalidity ruling issued will be suspended for 12 months following confirmation by the Constitutional Court to allow the respondents time to amend the contested legislation for constitutional compliance.

Tinashe Sambiri – In a fiery rebuke directed at President Emmerson Mnangagwa, opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has lashed out at what he describes as the President’s mishandling of Zimbabwe’s affairs, accusing him of running the country as if it were his own personal tuckshop.
Chamisa’s remarks come in response to recent statements made by Sengezo Tshabangu, the self-declared Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), who controversially expressed support for Mnangagwa’s 2030 agenda. Tshabangu’s endorsement has drawn widespread criticism, with many within the opposition accusing him of attempting to legitimise ZANU PF’s rule under the guise of opposition leadership.
The former CCC president minced no words in his reaction:
“ED’s games shall not be tolerated anymore! We’re suffering and struggling every day. Zimbabwe is a country, not a personal tuckshop,” Chamisa declared, directly accusing Mnangagwa of personalising state resources and governance.
Chamisa’s comments tap into growing frustration among Zimbabweans over the economic crisis, widespread corruption, and alleged authoritarian tendencies of the ruling ZANU PF party. His metaphor of a “tuckshop” — a small, often informal store — underscores his claim that Mnangagwa is treating the state as a private enterprise for personal gain, rather than as a public institution accountable to its citizens.
Political analysts note that the clash also reveals deeper fractures within the opposition. Tshabangu, who controversially recalled dozens of CCC MPs in 2023, has been accused of being a ZANU PF proxy, further intensifying tensions in the country’s already volatile political landscape.
Chamisa’s latest remarks reaffirm his position as a vocal critic of the current administration and a persistent advocate for change. As the country moves toward 2030, his message is clear:
“Zimbabwe must be led with integrity, vision, and for the benefit of all—not the enrichment of a few.”
With political temperatures rising, all eyes are now on how both ZANU PF and the opposition will navigate this contentious political terrain—and whether Zimbabwe’s future will reflect the will of its people or remain, as Chamisa warns, a tuckshop in the hands of the few.
Dear Editor,
I write this letter deeply disturbed by an incident that recently occurred at Riverton Academy in Masvingo Province, where a learner was allegedly caned by the Headmaster for arriving late to breakfast.
For a school that charges an eye-watering US$6,235 per term, one would expect a learning environment that upholds the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and respect for students’ rights—not corporal punishment reminiscent of a bygone era.
Discipline in schools must never come at the expense of a child’s dignity or safety. There are countless constructive ways to instill time management and responsibility in students without resorting to physical violence. The fact that a senior school official allegedly resorted to beating a student over a meal-time issue raises serious questions about the leadership and values being imparted at this institution.
What message is being sent when a child is punished with violence instead of guided with empathy? And how are parents expected to continue entrusting their children—and their hard-earned money—to a school that appears to condone such actions?
This incident must be thoroughly investigated by education authorities, and if confirmed, appropriate disciplinary action must be taken against those responsible. Our children deserve learning environments built on care, respect, and psychological safety.
Sincerely,
Concerned Observer

ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, has declared President Emmerson Mnangagwa a “God-given leader,” urging members of the Johane the 5th of Africa International Church to continue supporting him through prayer.
Machacha was addressing hundreds of congregants in Madziva over the weekend, where he commended the Apostolic sect for what he termed its “patriotic spirit” and contribution to the country’s development.
“President Mnangagwa is a God-given leader. We must all continue praying for His Excellency, President Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, so that he may continue advancing the country’s development agenda,” said Machacha.
He further encouraged the Vapositori community to remain united and aligned with national goals, praising the church for its “peace-loving nature and dedication to building the nation.”
“We are grateful for your support. You are not just worshippers—you are partners in development. Your contribution to agriculture, family values, and community building cannot be overstated,” Machacha added.
His remarks come at a time when the ruling party has intensified efforts to rally support from religious communities ahead of anticipated political developments and economic reforms.
The Johane the 5th of Africa International Church, like many Apostolic sects in Zimbabwe, holds a substantial following, especially in rural areas, and has been viewed by ZANU PF as a critical constituency.
Machacha’s comments drew mixed reactions online, with critics accusing the ruling party of exploiting religion for political gain, while supporters applauded the message as a unifying call for faith and patriotism.
There was no immediate comment from church leadership on the political remarks, though congregants reportedly welcomed the gesture and pledged continued prayers for the country and its leadership.

The future of Nyokayemabhunu, a prominent Zimbabwean activist known for his outspoken criticism of the government, remains uncertain as he battles extradition from South Africa back to Zimbabwe. His case has ignited strong reactions both within Zimbabwe and among the diaspora, with supporters fiercely opposing any move to return him to face possible persecution.
Supporters warn that returning Nyokayemabhunu to Zimbabwe could put him at grave risk. “If he is sent back, he might face harsh imprisonment or worse, given Zimbabwe’s troubling record on dissent,” said a close ally. The fears are rooted in the country’s history, where activists and critics have often suffered violent repression.
As the extradition hearing proceeds, there is a growing campaign urging South African authorities to grant Nyokayemabhunu asylum. “We are urging the South African government to protect him from the oppressive reach of the Zimbabwean regime,” one activist declared.
A key concern is that Nyokayemabhunu holds sensitive information that could expose corruption and factionalism within Zanu-PF, the ruling party. His potential testimony could be damaging to those in power.
An opposition activist based in South Africa warned, “We are leaving no stone unturned. The Zanu-PF regime has deployed lawyers to try and seize this case, and they are fabricating additional charges against Nyokayemabhunu. We must mobilize — Nyokayemabhunu needs our support now more than ever.”

Business mogul and real estate tycoon Dr. Phillip Chiyangwa has urged President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and his administration to draw lessons from Burkina Faso’s leadership model under President Ibrahim Traoré, emphasizing the importance of swift and effective execution of national development initiatives.
Dr. Chiyangwa, a senior member of ZANU PF and former parliamentarian, stressed the urgent need to cut down on bureaucratic red tape, reduce delays in the tendering process, and minimize excessive formalities that hinder progress.
He argued that fast-tracked, results-driven action is key to transforming Zimbabwe’s economic landscape.
As chairman and founder of Native Investments Africa Group, Chiyangwa oversees a diverse business empire that includes property development, manufacturing, construction, hospitality, and tourism. His portfolio includes well-known entities such as ZECO Holdings, Pinnacle Holdings, and Tsivo Holdings.
His reference to “the Traoré Factor” highlights admiration for the bold steps taken by Burkina Faso’s young leader. Ibrahim Traoré, born on March 14, 1988, has served as interim President of Burkina Faso since taking power in a coup in September 2022. At just 37 years old, he is one of the world’s youngest heads of state.
Since assuming leadership, Traoré has aggressively pursued national sovereignty and economic independence. Notably, he has distanced his country from former colonial ties with France and championed regional cooperation through the creation of the Alliance of Sahel States.
One of his standout achievements came in November 2023, when his government approved the establishment of the nation’s first gold refinery. This strategic move aims to retain more value from Burkina Faso’s rich gold resources by refining them domestically, rather than exporting raw ore. The project is expected to generate 100 direct jobs and up to 5,000 indirect ones, with the facility projected to process around 400 kilograms of gold daily.
In a bid to clean up the artisanal mining sector and curb gold smuggling, Traoré in February 2024 suspended the issuance of export permits for small-scale producers. This crackdown is intended to boost regulatory oversight, curb illegal trade, and ensure the country’s mineral wealth contributes more directly to government revenue.
Chiyangwa’s appeal signals a call for Zimbabwe to take bold, reform-driven leadership cues from Burkina Faso, with a focus on self-reliance, streamlined governance, and tangible development outcomes.
Crime and Courts Reporter– The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has come under fire for ambushing unsuspecting motorists by publishing a list of 290 vehicles allegedly caught violating traffic light regulations through the newly installed Electronic Traffic Management System (ETMS) in Harare’s Central Business District.
In a statement issued on 17 May 2025, the ZRP appealed to the owners of the listed vehicles to report to the police within seven days to assist with ongoing investigations. The police insist the initiative is part of broader efforts to enforce traffic laws and restore order on the roads.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has embraced Electronic Traffic Management and is appealing for cooperation from 290 motorists… The motorists or vehicle owners are urged to fully cooperate and assist in the maintenance of law and order in the country,” read the statement, signed by Police Commissioner P. Nyathi.
However, the rollout of the digital surveillance system has triggered a wave of criticism, with many motorists accusing the police of silently implementing the system without adequate public education or signage to warn drivers of its existence.
“It’s a trap,” said one motorist whose vehicle appeared on the list. “We were never informed about the cameras or where they are located. Now they want us to present ourselves to the police like criminals.”
Observers have slammed the ZRP for what they describe as a punitive approach that prioritizes revenue collection over genuine road safety. While the police have hailed the move as a modern solution to urban traffic chaos, critics argue that the authorities failed to run proper public awareness campaigns before activating the monitoring system.
“What we are witnessing is not enforcement but entrapment,” said a transport sector analyst. “Any change in traffic law enforcement, especially one involving new technology, must be accompanied by widespread education and engagement with the public.”
Motorists have also expressed concern over the lack of clear guidelines on how violations are determined and whether drivers will be given access to footage or evidence of the alleged infractions.
Vehicle owners or individuals in possession of the implicated cars have been instructed to report to the ZRP National Traffic offices at Mkushi Academy (formerly Morris Depot), or contact the National Complaints Desk via landline at (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197.
As public frustration mounts, legal experts are warning that the legitimacy of the citations could be challenged in court if the police cannot prove that proper notice and awareness measures were taken prior to enforcement.

WHEN GOD HAS ORDAINED IT, THE DEVIL CAN’T STOP IT…FAMBA ZION…🙏🙏🙏
A few weeks ago, I joyfully donated a brand-new 2025 Range Rover Autobiography SV and a Land Cruiser LC300 series to “HIS GRACE” BISHOP NEHEMIAH MUTENDI, in honour of his STEADFAST leadership of the Zion Christian Church and his TIRELESS dedication to God’s work. I was deeply SADDENED to learn on social media that the driver sent to collect the Range Rover vehicle was unfortunately involved in an accident at Featherstone, causing reasonably bad damage to the whole front and left side of the vehicle. While I have not taken time to verify every detail of this REGRETTABLE incident, it has all but confirmed that every time a GOOD DEED is done for a MAN OF GOD, the enemy will rise to frustrate, delay or destroy it 🙄. But the DEVIL IS A LIAR, because NO WEAPON formed against the work of God will EVER prosper.
This incident , rather than discourage me , has IGNITED an even GREATER FIRE 🔥within me. Where others might see a setback and celebrate what they think is one’s DOWNFALL, I see God’s invitation to BLESS even BIGGER, even BETTER and even BOLDER. It is on this account and out of deep reverence for His Grace, especially after witnessing the RECORD-BREAKING, spirit-filled Easter Conference at MBUNGO, that I’m thrilled to once again extend and REPLACE the Range Rover with this brand new 2025 MERCEDES-BENZ MAYBACH GL600 FACELIFT, valued at US$550 ,000. A man of God, called and anointed such as Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi, deserves the VERY BEST of luxuries without blemish, without any DENT, without compromise and without stain, just as he stands before God’s people. On another friendly note I take this opportunity to sincerely apologize for not being able to attend this year’s EASTER CONFERENCE however that won’t STOP ME from emptying my pockets to avail HIS GRACE with another small donation towards your charity work this year. I am currently away on vacation but on my return and at your earliest convenience please be kind enough to spare some time out of your busy schedule to allow me to come and officially handover yet another 1 million dollars to you.
“HIS GRACE ” please kindly accept this small token of my GREATEST appreciation for your continued SELFLESS sacrifice in the work of GOD and for being a dedicated SHEPHERD of those you have been called to serve. Your vehicle is ready for collection at EXQUISITE MOTORS and I will instruct VICTOR to deliver it himself to you.
Nothing in this world, NOT EVEN the devil himself, can stop what God has purposed. I remain UNSHAKEN. I remain UNDEFEATED. I remain OBEDIENT to the voice of God, led by compassion, driven by LOVE and determined to uplift the work of God. May the Lord continue to bless you abundantly, expand your territory and multiply the works of your hands as you teach, intercede, and provide for the underprivileged and vulnerable across our nation.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY…🙏🏼🙏🙏
My Chilling Encounter with an International Identity Theft Syndicate I recently embarked on a piece investigating the growing Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) scam, which targets people seeking legitimate work opportunities in the UK. This scam involves fraudsters promising unsuspecting victims CoS documents in exchange for large sums of money, only to vanish once payment is made. I had no idea that following this trail would lead me straight into the web of an international criminal one that would eventually target me personally.
During my investigation, I traced one of the main suspects operating from Zimbabwe but using a UK cell number +447537169257. After gathering enough evidence, I decided to confront him with the findings. I expected either a denial or a nervous retreat. Instead, what followed shook me to my core.
With unsettling calmness, the individual sent me a scanned copy of a British passport (see attached document) and advised me he is opening a bank account with Monese bank. What left me speechless was not the passport itself, but the details on it. My full name and a photo that had clearly been pulled from the internet. He casually told me that he intended to use it to open bank accounts across Europe, the United States, and South Africa. The level of confidence he displayed revealed that this was not the work of a petty criminal, this was the hallmark of an organised, international fraudster.
The implications were chilling. He was not just conning hopeful job seekers. He was using stolen identities including mine to create entirely new fraudulent financial profiles. I realised I had uncovered a larger, more dangerous operation than I had anticipated. This was identity theft and international financial fraud on a global scale.
My immediate concern is no longer just the CoS scam but the risk that this impersonator could open bank accounts, commit financial crimes or launder money all under my name. The potential damage to my reputation, personal credit and legal standing is immense. Despite reporting the matter to local authorities, the global nature of the scam means this requires action beyond borders.
My biggest challenge now is how to alert international banks and financial watchdogs. I am not a high-profile figure with direct access to banking regulators across continents, yet I know this fraudster is actively working to exploit my identity. What I need is a coordinated alert system that banks and credit agencies can access to flag suspicious attempts to open accounts under my name.
This experience has taught me that online exposure, even in legitimate situations, comes with serious risks. It also underscores the need for stronger global cooperation in identifying and neutralising transnational fraud rings, especially those operating in countries with weak regulatory enforcement.
This should send shivers down the spine of every individual, because the truth is, you are no longer safe. If someone can sit behind a computer in Zimbabwe, lift your photo and personal details from the internet and create a fake passport in your name to open bank accounts across the world, then we are all vulnerable. It does not matter whether you are a celebrity, a professional, or simply a private citizen, the digital footprints we leave behind are now tools for criminals. This is not just my story, it is a wake-up call for everyone living in a world where identity theft has gone global and the criminals are always one step ahead.

By Sports Reporter- Thousands of mourners gathered to bid farewell to Sensei Mugove Muhambi, a beloved martial arts expert and fitness trainer, who was laid to rest at Epworth Cemetery following a tragic road accident that claimed his life over the weekend.
Known in the fitness and wellness community as “Monya Mugo”, Muhambi was celebrated not only for his discipline in martial arts but also for his unifying presence in Zimbabwe’s health and sports circles. The funeral procession, which began at his St Martins home and moved through Seke Road and Chiremba Road, brought traffic to a standstill—a powerful symbol of the deep respect and admiration he inspired.
Lieutenant General (Rtd) Anselem Sanyatwe, now serving as the Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, sent a condolence message to Mugo’s family.
In a heartfelt tribute, General Sanyatwe described Muhambi as “a true warrior whose discipline, dedication, and service to the community transcended sport.”
The emotional send-off was attended by athletes, fitness enthusiasts, martial artists, community leaders, and ordinary Zimbabweans who had been touched by Muhambi’s work. His impact as a mentor, motivator, and health advocate resonated far beyond the gym.
Sensei Mugo is survived by his wife and two children. His passing leaves a void in Zimbabwe’s sporting and wellness landscape, but his legacy will live on through the lives he transformed.

By A Correspondent-The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) is seeking to hire external experts to replace lecturers who have been on strike for the past two months, in what appears to be a last-ditch effort to restore normalcy at the country’s oldest tertiary institution.
Lecturers at UZ have downed tools indefinitely, demanding a salary of US$2,500. Currently, they earn around US$230, plus a local currency component equivalent to approximately US$200.
In a circular addressed to faculty deans, the UZ administration requested updates on the status of individual lecturers regarding teaching and learning activities. It also asked for a list of modules not currently being taught, as well as recommendations of “potential experts” who could be engaged as adjuncts to take over those responsibilities.
Deans were further instructed to submit strategic plans for fulfilling the university’s academic mandate, including the supervision of student projects and dissertations.
However, the move has sparked backlash from the Association of University Teachers (AUT), which urged its members to reject the university’s call.
“Do not submit to slavery! Ignore them. They need us more than we need them,” the AUT said in a circular to its members. “Let them go ahead with their plan to hire part-timers—security guards, drivers, and miners—to teach Block 4. We are not part of that.”
The AUT also called on lecturers to stay away from work throughout the university’s ongoing Research, Innovation, and Industrialisation Week, which is being held at the main campus.
“It is them who shall showcase innovative skills—skills that earned them houses and allowances ahead of lecturers,” the AUT added, in reference to perceived preferential treatment of non-academic staff and administrators.
Education experts have warned that the prolonged strike is likely to undermine the quality of education at the institution, already under pressure from chronic underfunding and brain drain.

By A Correspondent| The opposition political party, People’s Unity Party (PUP), has warned that the party is preparing for nationwide demonstrations if President Emmerson Mnangagwa continues to ignore their calls for the formation of a Government of National Unity (GNU) to address Zimbabwe’s worsening economic crisis.
Speaking after a weekend executive committee meeting held in Bulawayo, Chamuka said the situation in the country was now unbearable for ordinary citizens, and urgent intervention was needed.
He said his party has been calling for a Government of National Unity, but the ruling party, ZANU-PF, has turned a blind eye.
“We just want a peaceful dialogue to push for a Government of National Unity because the situation in Zimbabwe is no longer normal. People are suffering.
“Prices are going up , and our local currency has lost value countless times. If this government continues to ignore our calls, we will mobilise people across the country and go to the streets,” Chamuka told reporters.
Chamuka also revealed that his party is preparing to take legal action against the Ministry of Finance and President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa over the ongoing currency instability, which he said has left millions of Zimbabweans in poverty.
“The Ministry of Finance has failed us. They keep changing currencies, from bond notes to RTGS and now ZiG, but nothing has improved. Instead, people are poorer than ever.
“We will go to the courts to demand answers. We also want to challenge President Mnangagwa’s government for failing to act and allowing the economy to collapse while citizens suffer,” said Chamuka.
Zimbabwe has experienced multiple currency changes in recent years. The latest, Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), was introduced in 2024 to replace the Zimbabwean dollar, which had lost significant value.
However, despite government claims that ZiG would stabilise the economy, prices of basic goods continue to rise, and public confidence in the local currency remains low.
According to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT), annual inflation rose again in 2025, with the cost of living increasing sharply, especially in urban areas.
Many families can no longer afford basic necessities such as mealie meal, cooking oil, and transport.
Alice Phiri, the party’s Administration Officer, echoed Chamuka’s sentiments, saying the planned demonstrations are meant to pressure the government to act in the interest of ordinary people.
“We discussed this issue as a party and agreed that mass action is now the only option. Our members are not happy with how things are being run.
“There is no electricity, no clean water, hospitals have no medicine, and people are hungry. The government must listen to the cries of the people,” said Phiri.
The PUP is not the only political voice calling for urgent economic reforms.
Civil society groups, trade unions, and churches have also expressed concern over the deteriorating situation.
The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has been releasing statements calling on the government to address workers’ wages, which remain below the poverty line.
The average civil servant reportedly earns less than US\$300 per month, making it difficult to survive in a country where most goods are priced in United States dollars.
Despite the economic hardships, the government insists that the introduction of ZiG will eventually restore stability.
However, analysts argue that without confidence in the leadership, fiscal discipline, and political will to address corruption, Zimbabwe’s economy will remain stuck.
Chamuka said the PUP will announce the dates of the protests soon, and that the party will also engage lawyers to push the legal case forward.
“We are serious. Enough is enough. Zimbabweans have suffered too long. We will take the fight to the streets and to the courts. We are not afraid,” he added.
Efforts to get a comment from the Ministry of Finance and ZANU-PF spokespersons were unsuccessful at the time of writing.

ZANU PF continues to deploy strategic community outreach programs in rural Zimbabwe, with critics saying such efforts serve more to secure political loyalty than to address long-term developmental needs.
In a recent example, the ZANU PF-linked group Boyz Dza Mdara held a free medical outreach in Mutorashanga. While praised by local leaders and villagers for bringing temporary relief to under-served communities, analysts argue that such initiatives are timed to maintain political dominance in rural areas.
“They know people here are desperate,” said a local teacher who requested anonymity. “So they give them health check-ups or food just before elections or major party events. It’s a way of keeping them dependent.”
During the event, Masango village head Mr. David Mupedzamasango publicly thanked the government, but added a plea: “We continue to appeal for more boreholes so that we minimise disease outbreaks when we have access to clean water.” His statement reflected the broader sentiment—gratitude for the help, but frustration over persistent neglect.
Ndengeza village head Mr. Pedziswa Togarepi also commended the outreach but hinted at the underlying struggle. “We have the elderly who cannot walk or travel to the clinics. Bringing services here is helpful—but this shouldn’t be a one-time thing,” he said.
Medical practitioner Ms. Michelle Phiri emphasized the practical benefits: “We are offering free consultancy and diagnosis to the people. We are also offering discounted specs so that we meet the needs of everyone according to their budgets.”
Yet some see these acts as calculated charity.
“ZANU PF often packages these handouts as development,” political analyst Tapiwa Chivanga said. “But the real aim is to present the party as a savior in areas where it has failed to invest in proper infrastructure for decades.”
ZANU PF officials deny any political motive. “Our President Dr. ED Mnangagwa always reminds us that nyika inovakwa nevene vayo—a nation is built by its own people,” said Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution deputy director Mr. Tichaona Chiwiro.
Mr. Andrew Mugabe, provincial chairperson of Boyz Dza Mdara, insisted the project was people-driven: “We mobilised this effort using our own resources and going forward we intend to construct a clinic here in Windsor.”
Despite these promises, rural Zimbabweans remain heavily dependent on sporadic outreach events. While the government rolls out its National Community Health Strategy aiming for a health post every five kilometers, communities continue to wait—for water, for clinics, and for lasting change.

What should be a season of celebration is becoming a nightmare for many Zimbabwean students, as a growing number fall prey to fake overseas university recruitment schemes.
Ambitious school leavers with excellent exam results are being deceived by con artists posing as legitimate education consultants. These scammers exploit students’ dreams of studying abroad by promoting false “fully funded scholarship” offers to top global universities.
A recent investigation by Check Point has revealed a troubling surge in these fraudulent operations, which are targeting recent A-Level graduates eager to secure placements at international institutions.
The fraudulent networks—often orchestrated by Zimbabweans living overseas—are taking advantage of hopeful students’ limited access to reliable information and urgent desire for better opportunities.
The scams typically begin with polished social media ads and online listings, claiming affiliations with reputable universities in countries like the UK, US, India, Canada, and South Africa.
Applicants are drawn in by the professionalism of the process, which appears legitimate at first glance.
Unfortunately, many only realise the deception after parting with large sums of money and receiving nothing in return.
Harare – 19 May 2025
Harare Magistrate Tapiwa Banda has sentenced two Mahomed Mussa security guards to five years in prison after they were convicted of stealing US$195,000 from their employer in a carefully orchestrated inside job.
The convicted pair, Jeremiah Kwenda and Phineas Moyo, were both on duty at Mahomed Mussa Wholesalers on the night of December 21, 2024, when they allegedly colluded with an accomplice, Chamunorwa Muvhuti, to pull off the high-stakes theft.
According to court records, the two guards allowed Muvhuti to hide inside the premises after other workers had left. Later in the night, Muvhuti used a sharp metal object to force open a portable safe containing the large sum of cash. The theft was discovered the following day, prompting a swift police investigation.
In a dramatic turn, detectives tracked down Muvhuti on Christmas Day, arresting him in Pfungwe, where he had gone to pay lobola using part of the stolen funds. He was found with US$186,100, which he led police to recover. During interrogation, he implicated Kwenda and Moyo as key accomplices in the robbery.
Magistrate Banda initially handed each of the guards a five-year custodial sentence, but suspended two years on condition of good behaviour. An additional 18 months were suspended on condition of full restitution, meaning both will serve an effective 16 months behind bars.
Police have since confirmed that part of the stolen funds was successfully recovered, bringing partial relief to the complainant.

Two members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) are standing trial at the High Court in Masvingo for allegedly beating a fellow soldier to death during a violent altercation at a nightclub.
The accused, Prosper Ncube (35) and Innocent Mazvuru (36), both stationed at Infantry 4/2 Brigade in Gutu, are alleged to have fatally assaulted Simbarashe Albert Gama—an army officer based in Harare—on 28 April 2024 during the early hours of the morning at MDD Nightclub near Mpandawana Growth Point.
According to court records, the confrontation began when the two accused men questioned Gama’s military identity after he claimed to be a soldier. When Gama failed to produce his military ID, they allegedly restrained him with a shoelace and began a brutal assault.
Eyewitnesses reported that Gama was repeatedly punched and kicked in the face until he bled and collapsed. Efforts to intervene by a barman, Cephas Mudyiwa, and patron Hardlife Maheya, were allegedly rebuffed by the accused.
Prosecutors allege that after assaulting Gama, the two soldiers took US$45 and a mobile phone from his pocket before fleeing the scene.
Military Police officer Tapera Mbizvo responded to the incident and found Gama unconscious. He was first taken to the 4/2 Camp Battalion Clinic before being transferred to Gutu Mission Hospital and later to Josiah Magama Tongogara Army Hospital in Harare. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries two weeks later.
The trial is being presided over by Justice Helena Charewa. Innocent Mazvuru is represented by Omen Mafa of Mutendi, Mudisi and Shumba Legal Practitioners.

MTHWAKAZI REPUBLIC PARTY [MRP] PRESS STATEMEN AS ZANU-PF THUGS RE-START ILLEGAL FARM INVASIONS IN MATABELELAND
The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has learned with shock and outrage about the new wave of illegal farm invasions in Matabeleland. Our President, Cde Thembisani Mfulongatshi Mpofu, witnessed firsthand the unlawful activities when he and other party leaders visited a group of disgruntled white farmers.
These farm invasions are a clear demonstration of ZANU-PF’s disregard for the law and the rights of citizens in Matabeleland. Farms such as Sentinel in Beitbridge, forcefully grabbed by Kembo Mohadi, and WestAcre farm along Plumtree road, partially taken by a ZANU-PF member, are just a few examples of this egregious behavior. The ZANU-PF party members and Central Intelligence Organization Officials are reportedly targeting a number of farms in Matabeleland, which include Marula FARM Marshlands owned by Zeitsman, they are threatening to kill Mrs Knott if she doesn’t vacate the farm, the White farmers are no longer feeling safe.
As a party, we say nothing for us without us. If you want to invade farms, go and do it in Mashonaland. We in Matabeleland will not sit idly by while people come from Mashonaland East to take our land by force. This is a blatant disregard for the Constitution of Zimbabwe, specifically Section 71, which guarantees the right to property.
These actions also contravene international law, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 17, which states that everyone has the right to own property alone or in association with others. Furthermore, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Article 14, guarantees the right to property.
The MRP will not stand idly by while our citizens are threatened and intimidated. We will protect the rights of all citizens by all means necessary. We call on the authorities to take immediate action to stop these illegal activities and uphold the rule of law. We urge people from Mashonaland to refrain from using ZANU-PF to occupy our land by force.
We demand that the government takes immediate action to:
The MRP will continue to advocate for peace, justice, and the protection of our citizens’ rights.

Mr Mangena passed away last Sunday and was laid to rest at the Nkulumane Provincial Heroes Acre.
Mrs Mangena was granted liberation war heroine status instead of being given national heroine status.
“Mrs Mangena was one of the women who carried the struggle forward by supporting soldiers. She is one of the women who were dedicated to supporting the liberation struggle,” Zanu PF Secretary General, Obert Mpofu said.
The late Mrs Mangena contributed to the liberation struggle through resource mobilisation during the armed struggle for independence.
“Let us take a leaf from the Mangena’s, their dedication to the struggle is something that should be emulated,” Zanu PF Bulawayo Provincial chairman, Jabulani Sibanda said.
Lotshe Mangena, the only surviving child of the Mangena’s, extended appreciation to the government for also recognising the supportive role played by his mother in the liberation struggle.
“I want to thank the government for granting my mother this status. It goes to show that the role played by women during the liberation struggle is also recognised,” he said.

By Showbiz Reporter-Top South African Amapiano DJ Kelvin Momo left Zimbabwean fans fuming on Saturday night after a disappointing performance at the much-hyped Carpe Diem Season 2, held at First Capitalk Sports Club in Harare.
The event, which had been marketed as a premium celebration of Africa’s top electronic music talent, turned sour after headline act Kelvin Momo arrived more than two hours late for his set. Momo showed up at 10:30 PM—well past his scheduled performance time of 8:00 PM—and played for less than an hour before abruptly ending his set, leaving fans frustrated and short-changed.
The event had kicked off at 3 PM and drew hundreds of Amapiano enthusiasts, many of whom had forked out as much as US$30 for VIP access in anticipation of extended sets by top-tier DJs.
“I feel robbed. We came here expecting at least three hours of Kelvin Momo, but he barely played. For what we paid, this is unacceptable,” said one disgruntled fan.
Another headline act, Kabza De Small, also failed to deliver a memorable set, further dampening the spirits of attendees who had braved the evening chill in hopes of a musical feast under the stars.
Carpe Diem had promised an electrifying showcase of Africa’s finest Amapiano talent. The lineup included Kelvin Momo, Kabza De Small, DJ Madeherbelieve, DJ Ash T, DJ Sfiso, Thakzin, DJ Tapiwa, Mimi, and Jay, with organizers marketing the event as a one-of-a-kind celebration of the continent’s vibrant electronic music scene.
The Carpe Diem series has grown into a signature event in Zimbabwe’s entertainment calendar, celebrated for its fusion of sound, culture, and community. The first season featured over 12 DJs from across Africa and was praised for its high energy and pan-African spirit. It was this track record that raised expectations for an even better Season 2.
Set in the relaxed, open-air setting of First Capitalk Sports Club, the event encouraged fans to bring picnic blankets, cooler boxes, and charcoal heaters to create a laid-back, communal atmosphere. But for many, the night ended on a sour note due to poor time management and what fans described as “unprofessional conduct” by the headline performers.
Despite the backlash, the event organizers, led by seasoned promoter Walter Wanyanya, were praised for maintaining high production values and ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. However, many now say the credibility of the Carpe Diem brand could suffer if headline artists fail to respect fans and deliver promised performances.
With social media abuzz with disappointed reactions and calls for refunds, it remains to be seen whether Carpe Diem can bounce back and restore confidence among its loyal fan base.
A Central Region Soccer League match between Shabanie Mine and Gwanda Pirates was abandoned in the 68th minute after a disturbing incident of fan violence. The match, played at Maglas Stadium, took a dark turn when fans of the two teams clashed in the stands, resulting in a fan being stabbed with a knife.
The violent outbreak marred what should have been an exciting football match, with the safety and well-being of spectators compromised. The incident has raised concerns about security measures at football matches and the behavior of fans.
Details surrounding the incident are still emerging, but it’s clear that the situation escalated quickly, prompting match officials to abandon the game. The authorities are likely to investigate the incident and take necessary actions to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The abandonment of the match serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining safety and security at sports events. Football is meant to be a source of entertainment and unity, not violence and harm.

Veteran Zimbabwean striker Nyasha Mushekwi has continued his impressive scoring run at his new Chinese League One side, Dalian Kun City.
The 37-year-old joined the club ahead of the 2025 season after parting ways with Yunnan Yukun, who were promoted to the Chinese Super League in 2024. Despite his age, Mushekwi has remained a potent force in front of goal, netting six goals in nine appearances to become Dalian Kun City’s top scorer.
His most recent strike came in a 2-1 victory over SZ Juniors on Friday, underscoring his value to the team and his enduring class on the pitch.
Mushekwi’s stellar form adds to a distinguished career in China, where he has now scored over 100 goals across both the Super League and League One since his move in 2016.
Though currently trailing the league’s top scorer, Guy Mbenza of LN Tieren, by five goals, Mushekwi’s consistency continues to be a key asset for his club as they push for success this season.
Army Revolt Rumours Dismissed as “Deadly Nonsense” — VP Chiwenga Returns from Rome Amid Turmoil
By A Correspondent | ZimEye | 19 May 2025 – Harare, Zimbabwe | Government sources have strongly dismissed swirling reports claiming the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) held a private meeting today without Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and that they had withdrawn security personnel from the two leaders.
“There is no such development,” a senior government source told ZimEye on Monday. “The murmurs are there, that the VP has let them down. But the army cannot withdraw security from the president and they cannot meet privately and publish it. They will be killed straight away.”
The sources insisted that any authentic military arrangements of such a sensitive nature would never be made public. “If the army arranges something, it will never be published,” one source said, shutting down speculation of a brewing military revolt.
The Vice President, who reportedly returned from Rome today, has not commented on the rumours. Meanwhile, ZDF Commander General Valerio Sibanda was confirmed to have been attending a presidential agricultural meeting focused on the arrival of goats and sheep from Belarus — a project already drawing internal criticism over a lack of veterinary expertise and practical benefit to the armed forces.
While government insists that the president’s security remains intact, the source acknowledged that “ordinary army personnel can withdraw security from the Vice President, but not from the President. That’s impossible.”
Presidential Spokesman George Charamba had not commented at the time of writing.
The controversy was sparked by reports that army commanders had convened without their superiors to protest years of poor conditions, particularly the deteriorating welfare of soldiers. In 2022, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri publicly lamented that soldiers had been reduced to rations of just sadza and beans, with many living in townships under squalid conditions due to lack of barracks accommodation.
“Our forces are renting accommodation and they’re being insulted daily,” Muchinguri told Parliament. “Sometimes they go without food, even uniforms — these are constitutional requirements.”
Despite the denials, deep internal frustrations remain evident. Other legislators have repeatedly warned that the government’s continued neglect of the army and police forces could become a national security threat.
Muchinguri herself is still to respond to viral accusations by war veteran is that she is receiving US$30,000 from corrupt people in order to block the constitutional removal of the president.
Still, the official message seemed repeatedly clear by mid afternoon Monday: no mutiny has taken place, and any attempt by the military to independently challenge presidential authority would be “met with instant consequences.”
This is a developing story.

Controversial Zanu PF politician and former legislator Killer Zivhu has sparked heated debate after declaring that President Emmerson Mnangagwa cannot be ousted from office in a matter of months, dismissing the opposition’s push for his removal as “a joke.”
Speaking over the weekend, Zivhu argued that Mnangagwa’s rise to power was the result of decades of political groundwork, and any attempt to remove him hastily would be futile.
“The main point many are missing is that it took ED over 50 years to prepare himself to be President,” said Zivhu.
“Yet, some people want to remove him in just three months. It’s a joke.”
He directed his criticism at war veteran Blessed Geza, who has openly challenged Mnangagwa’s leadership.
“Geza spent most of his time insulting people. Now, he wants to remove ED urgently. It won’t happen,” Zivhu added.
In a separate post, Zivhu questioned the effectiveness of Zimbabwe’s educated populace, suggesting that despite high literacy levels, the country still struggles with poor decision-making and lack of progress.
“Honest discussion: Despite having educated citizens, Zimbabwe faces economic and infrastructure challenges. What’s the disconnect? Is education being utilized effectively for national development? Kana kuti ringori dzungu rokuti takadzidza, hapana zviripo madhti chete,”* he said, using blunt language that drew strong reactions online.
Zivhu, known for his outspoken and often unfiltered commentary, has previously clashed with both ruling party elites and opposition figures. His latest remarks have once again placed him at the center of political discourse, as the country inches toward the next electoral cycle with growing tension and uncertainty.

ZANU PF-aligned social media activists, commonly referred to as “varakashi,” have once again taken to Facebook to shower praise on controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo, despite his tainted history with failed government contracts—including the multi-million-dollar Gwanda Solar project that never materialized.
In a recent wave of online posts over the weekend, the ruling party’s digital foot soldiers went as far as claiming that Chivayo’s wealth will soon rival that of Zimbabwe’s only internationally recognised billionaire, Econet founder Strive Masiyiwa.
“I KNOW YOU DIDN’T KNOW THIS,” one post read. “Sir Wicknell has a higher net worth than DJ Khaled.
DJ Khaled’s net worth is only $95 million USD, whilst Sir Wicknell has over $800 million USD. Soon he will be a billionaire, making him the second billionaire in Zimbabwe after Strive Masiyiwa.”
The posts further boasted about Chivayo’s lavish lifestyle, claiming, “DJ Khaled owns one private jet whilst our Sir has 2. Mansions and car collection too — Sir Wicknell is just leading from the front.”
One supporter went on to declare: “Muhombe Murume Uyu! Zimbabwe is blessed to have him.”
Chivayo, who rose to prominence through his close ties with the political elite, continues to court controversy.
In 2015, his company Intratrek Zimbabwe was awarded a US$172 million tender for the Gwanda Solar Project, but nearly a decade later, the site remains undeveloped—despite millions reportedly disbursed upfront.
While his followers laud his spending sprees and donations, critics argue that his wealth reflects deeper issues of corruption and unaccountability in public procurement processes. Still, Chivayo maintains a significant online following, amplified by ZANU PF supporters who frame him as a symbol of success.

The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) has sparked outrage after initiating plans to hire external experts to replace lecturers who have been on strike for two months over poor wages—currently pegged at a mere US$230 per month.
Lecturers are demanding a salary of at least US$500 to match the rising cost of living, but authorities have so far failed to meet their demands. In a desperate bid to restore operations, the UZ administration has instructed faculty deans to compile lists of unstaffed modules and propose names of “potential experts” to be hired as adjuncts.
A source at the university slammed the move, calling it a “direct insult” to experienced academics who have served the institution for years under increasingly difficult conditions.
“Instead of addressing our legitimate concerns, the university is now trying to bring in outsiders—possibly with no experience in our context—just to silence the protest,” the source said. “This shows how little value is placed on our expertise and how the government continues to undermine the dignity of educators.”
The local currency component, which fluctuates heavily due to inflation, has offered little relief. “We are tired of being treated like disposable labour. How does one survive on US$230 in this economy?” the source added.
Despite calls for dialogue and intervention, no resolution has been reached, and tensions continue to rise as students face prolonged academic disruptions.

Independent candidate Gift Gonese says he is determined to humiliate the ruling Zanu PF party in the upcoming Gutu East by-election set for June 14.
Gonese, who previously ran under the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) banner in the 2023 general elections, has now entered the race as an independent. He officially submitted his nomination papers last week, marking his return to the political arena in what he describes as a “people-driven” campaign.
Speaking on his campaign efforts, Gonese said, “We are on the ground campaigning and we have a lot of support. We have been on the ground for a long time.”
He faces off against Zanu PF’s candidate Zvarevashe Masvingise and Zivanai Nzvenga of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA).
Gonese’s decision to contest independently comes amid growing dissatisfaction among opposition supporters over internal divisions and lack of direction, particularly after the recall of several CCC legislators earlier this year.
Locals in Gutu East have expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises and deteriorating infrastructure, something Gonese hopes to capitalise on. His campaign is reportedly focusing on service delivery, accountability, and reconnecting with the grassroots.
The Gutu East by-election is being closely watched as a litmus test for Zanu PF’s grip in rural constituencies and for how independent voices may shift the balance in contested electoral zones.

By A Correspondent – Controversial former Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) chairperson, Jabulani Sibanda, has resurfaced on the political scene following a lengthy period of silence.
Sibanda, who now serves as the Zanu PF Bulawayo Provincial Chairperson for war veterans, made a public appearance at the burial of Mrs Sikhubekiso Madeya Mangena, widow of the late national hero and legendary ZIPRA commander, Rodgers Alfred Nikita Mangena. The burial took place at Nkulumane Provincial Heroes Acre on Thursday.
Mrs Mangena was posthumously granted liberation war heroine status in recognition of her vital role in supporting the armed struggle through resource mobilisation.
“Mrs Mangena was one of the women who carried the struggle forward by supporting soldiers. She is one of the women who were dedicated to supporting the liberation struggle,” said Zanu PF Secretary General, Obert Mpofu.
Sibanda, speaking at the event, praised the Mangenas’ unwavering commitment to the liberation cause.
“Let us take a leaf from the Mangenas. Their dedication to the struggle is something that should be emulated,” he said.
Sibanda, a polarising figure within Zimbabwe’s liberation movement, rose to national prominence in the early 2000s as a vocal defender of the Zanu PF-led government during the height of the land reform programme. He is widely remembered for leading the infamous One Million Man March in support of then-President Robert Mugabe in 2007 and for his militant rhetoric against opposition supporters.
During his tenure as War Veterans leader, Sibanda was implicated in orchestrating violence and intimidation during several election cycles, including the 2008 and 2013 polls. His combative stance and public threats against perceived enemies of the revolution earned him notoriety, although he was later sidelined by Zanu PF amid internal factional disputes.
Despite this, his re-emergence at a state-sanctioned event suggests a possible rehabilitation within the ruling party structures, particularly in Bulawayo.
The late Mrs Mangena is survived by her son, Lotshe Mangena, and nine grandchildren.
“I want to thank the government for granting my mother this status. It goes to show that the role played by women during the liberation struggle is also recognised,” said Lotshe during the proceedings.

Amid growing frustration within Zimbabwe’s education sector, a local teacher has penned a powerful open letter to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the government, exposing the harsh financial realities many educators endure.
The anonymous teacher appeals for urgent salary adjustments, pointing out that the current monthly wage of around US$340 is far below the cost of living. The letter lays bare a budget deficit that leaves no room for basic survival, let alone emergencies—highlighting how the low pay cripples teachers’ ability to provide for their families and maintain professional morale.
See letter below:
To the Government of Zimbabwe,
I am writing to humbly request consideration for a salary increase above the Poverty Datum Line (PDL) for teachers like myself. With a monthly income of approximately $340, I struggle to cover essential expenses.
A breakdown of my actual monthly expenses reveals the stark reality:
– Rentals: $150
– Food: $200 (for four)
– School fees: $200 (estimated monthly, $600 per term for boarding)
– Transport: $80
– Medication: $200 (for a family of four, private doctor)
– Others: $300
– Emergency fund: $130
Actual Total Cost: $1260
Given my income of $340, it’s clear that my salary is insufficient to cover basic needs, let alone save for emergencies.
I kindly request that the government consider increasing our salaries to better align with the cost of living and international labour standards.
After addressing the above issues, let’s boldly talk about Mission, Vision, and Values, and how they can be meaningfully implemented when teachers’ basic needs are met.
We appreciate the visit made by our Education Minister, Dr. Moyo, but feel that he should have immediately advocated for a salary package for teachers if he was a keen observer of our challenges.
Sincerely,
ZIMBABWEAN TEACHER

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Twelve years after promising a supernatural gold boom that would lift Zimbabweans out of poverty, Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa has now stunned followers by suggesting he has wiped entire forests clean—leaving not even a lizard behind.
Back in 2013, Makandiwa prophesied that “gold will bulge out of the ground everywhere”, triggering national hysteria and a rush of hope that divine intervention would end Zimbabwe’s economic struggles.
In those days he was also filmed while flanked by fellow preacher Uebert Angel, who at the time confessed to living in extreme poverty, stating: “I went to the bank, you know, on my computer. Minus two. Hey, I said, baby, go and boil water. We will cook today.”
Fast-forward to 2025, both men are now mired in global controversy following exposure in Al Jazeera (and ZimEye) Gold Mafia investigative documentary series—implicated in vast gold smuggling operations, fake miracle claims, and fraud.
In an extraordinary sermon surfaced 16 May 2025, Makandiwa shifted from prophetic promises to bleak confessions of scarcity, declaring:
“He knows how to hunt but there isn’t any… there are no lizards in this forest,” he said.
This chilling metaphor was delivered in the context of a broader diatribe on poverty, state control, and personal power, as Makandiwa lamented that men are being “controlled by poverty” and nations are being kept in disempowerment by design. He went to the extent of mocking the men saying their wives are the ones now getting jobs through sex. The speech was riddled with erratic and repetitive phrases such as “I’m not going to go there” repeated over 20 times in a 9 minute row, raising concerns over coherence and accountability.
Analyst Howard Nyoni known for exposing religious and political fraud, juxtaposed Makandiwa’s 2013 declarations with his 2025 admissions, branding the preacher’s promises as empty and manipulative. The image montage shows clippings of NewsDay and The Herald headlines reporting his gold prophecy, alongside more recent investigations implicating him in gold mine torture and smuggling.
Nyoni questioned whether the only “gold” Makandiwa was ever referring to was symbolic—or a smokescreen for self-enrichment. As his lavish mansion appears in the background of these revelations, Zimbabweans are left with nothing but shattered dreams and scorched forests.
In 2012, the only yellow many say they ever saw from Makandiwa and Angel were the shirts they wore while kneeling before their Ghanaian mentor, Prophet Kusi Boateng. More than decade later, their real yellow gold is now their clothing.
Twelve years later, millions are poorer, forests are stripped, and not even a lizard is left.
