People Power Is Giving Mnangagwa Sleepless Nights, Declares Chamisa

By Tinashe Sambiri

Citizens’ leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa on Friday paid heartfelt tribute to the late Spencer Ndemera, a former security aide to the late MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai, who was brutally murdered last week in Harare.

Speaking at Ndemera’s funeral in Glen View South, Chamisa described the slain activist as a dedicated servant of the people and a steadfast contributor to Zimbabwe’s democratic struggle.

“Spencer was a true hero of the people’s struggle,” Chamisa said. “We worked with him since the days of President Morgan Tsvangirai. He was loyal, disciplined, and committed to the cause of freedom.”

Chamisa used the solemn occasion to reflect on the current state of the nation, expressing concern over the worsening economic conditions under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership. He criticised the government’s failure to address the country’s deepening crisis and accused the regime of fearing popular resistance.

“Naiye wamunofunga kuti akatiremedza, naye akatoremerwawo,” he said. “Ukanomubvunza kuti akakuremera ndiani, anogona kuti ndakaremerwa nemukomana.”

Chamisa went on: “Of course, we all know that we are grappling with a deepening economic crisis. That’s our main challenge. You all know who is behind the crisis.”

Ndemera, who was also a local entrepreneur and community caretaker, was found dead in his Glen View home following an alleged assault by tenants. His murder has sparked outrage and calls for justice from across the political spectrum and wider community.

Mnangagwa Unleashes Violent Crackdown Over Military Petition Demanding His Resignation

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Harare – 23 May 2025 — President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been accused of unleashing a violent crackdown against citizens linked to a petition calling for his resignation, in what critics describe as a growing campaign of repression against dissent.

“This is now a clear abduction case that is being arranged by a small group in the ruling upper class,” said Gifford Gomwe, one of the main petitioners, in an interview with ZimEye.

His mother, 72-year-old Edna Musarurwa, was reportedly abducted on Friday evening from her home in Budiriro, Harare, by a group of armed men believed to be state operatives. She was later dumped near a police checkpoint in Norton.

The petition, submitted earlier this week to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), cites President Mnangagwa’s alleged incapacitation and corruption and demands his immediate retirement. The document was officially acknowledged by military officials, and sources say its reception has provoked anxiety within the presidency.

ZDF insiders confirmed the petition invoked Section 212 of the Constitution, which mandates the military to defend the Constitution, peace, and the rule of law. “It’s being treated internally as a quasi-legal instrument — almost like a lawsuit against the President,” a military source revealed. The document is reportedly gaining support among mid- and lower-ranking officers.

The petition’s signatories include Gomwe, Tawanda Jena, Rose Chirenje, and Sarudzai Rushwaya — all of whom are now reportedly being targeted in an aggressive manhunt.

President Mnangagwa has not issued an official response, but his spokesperson George Charamba appeared to allude to the issue on social media, taking a veiled swipe at ZimEye editor Simba Chikanza. “Hauneti here nhai Simba – WHEN DO YOU GET TIRED?” he tweeted.

Mnangagwa has previously warned that anyone opposing the extension of his presidency “will have their days on earth reduced,” reinforcing concerns about his administration’s intolerance of opposition voices.

The current crackdown mirrors a similar incident in March when activist Blessed Geza was allegedly targeted by state agents. Analysts see these actions as part of a broader strategy to neutralize political threats, particularly within the security establishment.

While Gomwe briefly contacted ZimEye to confirm his safety, his exact location remains unknown. The Ministry of Defence and President Mnangagwa’s office were contacted for comment but had not responded by the time of publication.

Malema Mocks Trump and Ramaphosa: “Old Men Gossiping About Me”

By A Correspondent

South African opposition leader Julius Malema has hit back at a high-profile meeting between U.S. former President Donald Trump and President Cyril Ramaphosa, calling it nothing more than “a group of old men gossiping about me.”

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader made the sharp remark after reports emerged that Trump paused the meeting at the White House to show a video clip of Malema chanting the controversial slogan “Kill the Boer,” a chant that has drawn international attention.

Trump reportedly used the moment to raise concerns over what he described as the ongoing “killing” and displacement of white farmers in South Africa, echoing long-standing claims of so-called “white genocide” — a narrative Malema forcefully rejects.

“There is no significant amount of intelligence evidence about white genocide,” Malema wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “A group of older men meet in Washington to gossip about me.”

He added: “We will not agree to compromise our political principles on land expropriation without compensation for political expediency.”

Malema and his party have consistently championed the expropriation of land without compensation as a key policy to address historical injustices in land ownership.

Earlier this year, President Ramaphosa signed into law a contentious land reform bill allowing the government to expropriate land in specific circumstances without payment. While the law has sparked fierce debate domestically and abroad, the government maintains that no land has yet been seized under the new legislation.

Malema’s defiant stance underscores deep political divisions in South Africa and highlights how the land question remains a lightning rod issue — both at home and in global politics.

Former Morgan Tsvangirai Aide Brutally Murdered In Harare

By A Correspondent

Rangarirai Spencer Ndemera, a former security aide to the late MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai, has been brutally murdered under disturbing circumstances at his home in Glen View, Harare.

Ndemera, who ran a catering business and also served as a caretaker at a local property, was reportedly assaulted by tenants last week. His body was later discovered by neighbours after he had gone missing for several days.

“He was last seen on Friday,” said one neighbour. “We started getting worried when he didn’t answer calls or come out of the house. That’s when we alerted the police.”

Police have since launched an investigation into the incident, with the circumstances surrounding Ndemera’s death still unclear. Local residents suspect foul play and are calling for a swift response from authorities.

Victor Chifodya, a former Ward 30 councillor in Glen View and a lifelong acquaintance of Ndemera, expressed shock and demanded justice. “I knew Spencer since we were boys. He was quiet and hardworking. Whoever did this must be brought to book,” he said.

The community is now rallying around Ndemera’s elderly mother and young daughter, who are reportedly in distress. His wife passed away in 2018, leaving the two as his only immediate family.

“He was the only breadwinner,” a concerned neighbour noted. “We are worried about what will happen to his mother and child now.”

Starlink “Gets SA Licence” Days After Ramaphosa Humiliated By Trump

Pretoria – Days after President Cyril Ramaphosa faced a public snub from former U.S. President Donald Trump, the South African government has announced draft changes to ICT legislation that could pave the way for Elon Musk’s Starlink to legally operate in the country. The move has reignited tensions over racial justice, economic sovereignty, and geopolitical interference.

Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi on Friday gazetted a proposed amendment to ICT sector regulations. The changes would relax the 30% equity requirement for previously disadvantaged individuals (PDIs) in new ICT investments—an obligation that had effectively blocked the South African-born Musk’s satellite internet company from entering the local market.

Starlink’s Push and Musk’s Racial Controversies

Musk, the world’s richest man and CEO of SpaceX, has repeatedly lashed out at South African regulations, claiming he was being excluded from the local telecommunications sector because he is white. In a widely criticized post earlier this year, Musk accused the ANC government of “anti-white racism” and promoting “reverse apartheid,” echoing long-standing right-wing narratives used to undermine Black economic empowerment in post-apartheid South Africa.

Critics argue that Musk’s public statements are part of a broader disinformation campaign, particularly his amplification of the debunked “white genocide” myth—a claim that white farmers in South Africa are being systematically targeted and killed. This conspiracy theory, often promoted by far-right groups in the United States, has been condemned by South African civil society, researchers, and human rights groups as both inaccurate and inflammatory.

Musk’s remarks have drawn outrage not only for their racial insensitivity but also for their geopolitical implications. His social media megaphone has emboldened calls within U.S. conservative circles for sanctions against South Africa, accusing the government of violating white minority rights—a narrative that many in Pretoria view as a form of neocolonial interference.

Trump, Ramaphosa, and the White Genocide Myth

The timing of the Starlink announcement is politically charged. It comes just days after former U.S. President Donald Trump, now back in office following his re-election in January, publicly criticized President Ramaphosa for “failing to protect white farmers,” referencing the same false genocide claims Musk has propagated.

Trump’s administration previously flirted with the idea of sanctioning South Africa over land reform policies, and his renewed remarks have once again strained diplomatic relations between the two countries. Earlier this week, Ramaphosa was noticeably absent from a group of African leaders invited to a high-level investment summit hosted by Trump in Washington—a move widely interpreted as a political slight.

Insiders in the Department of International Relations say the South African government is walking a diplomatic tightrope: attempting to maintain relations with the United States while resisting external pressure that undermines the country’s sovereignty and transformation agenda.

BEE Policy Shift to Benefit Multinationals

The proposed amendments to the ICT regulations are framed as part of a broader investment drive. According to Malatsi, the changes would allow multinational companies to fulfill Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) requirements through “equity equivalent investment programmes” instead of direct ownership.

“Currently, the rules around who can acquire a license in the ICT sector require a minimum of 30% ownership in the hands of historically disadvantaged individuals. The equity equivalent programme allows multinationals to meet empowerment obligations through alternatives like investing in local suppliers, enterprise development, job creation, and skills development,” Malatsi said in a statement.

Opposition from the EFF

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have strongly rejected the policy shift and any deal involving Starlink, accusing Musk of racial provocation and economic imperialism.

“Starlink represents a threat to local industry and national security. It is owned by an individual who has peddled lies about a genocide in South Africa in an attempt to gain unregulated access to our market,” the EFF said in a fiery statement.

The party also questioned Musk’s motivations, stating: “One wonders why Elon Musk is so desperate to invest in a country he claims is committing genocide. A genuine humanitarian would see genocide as a reason not to invest.”

The EFF vowed to fight the deal “in Parliament, in the courts, and in the streets if necessary,” warning that South Africa’s sovereignty is “not for sale to billionaires.”

Starlink’s Quiet Lobbying Efforts

Despite public controversy, Starlink has been quietly lobbying behind the scenes for regulatory changes. Sources within the Department of Communications confirmed that high-level talks between government officials and Starlink representatives have been ongoing for months, intensified by growing demand for rural internet access.

South Africa remains one of the few major African economies yet to grant Starlink full operational rights, even as the service expands across the continent, including in Nigeria, Kenya, and Mozambique.

Conclusion

While the policy changes are being sold as a pragmatic move to unlock investment and expand internet access, critics warn that they may set a dangerous precedent—allowing foreign billionaires who undermine South African sovereignty and racial justice to do business on their own terms.

As the battle lines are drawn in Parliament and the courts, the Starlink saga is becoming more than just a telecoms story—it is now a lightning rod for race, power, and post-colonial sovereignty in South Africa’s fragile democracy.

Violence At Scottland Match

By Sports Reporter-The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match between Scottland FC and Chicken Inn was abandoned in dramatic fashion at Rufaro Stadium on Friday, 23 May, following crowd trouble sparked by a controversial late penalty.

With the match deadlocked at 0–0 in the 90th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to the hosts, Scottland FC — a decision that incensed Chicken Inn players, who vehemently protested and initially refused to allow the game to proceed.

Tensions escalated further as objects were hurled onto the pitch from the stands, disrupting preparations for the penalty. Chicken Inn goalkeeper Donovan Bernard refused to continue, citing safety concerns due to the flying missiles.

Police were called in to disperse the agitated crowd, but the volatile atmosphere forced officials to abandon the match.

In a statement issued on Saturday, PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare expressed regret over the incident and said the league would take appropriate action once official reports were received.

“The Premier Soccer League wishes to advise its stakeholders that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Scottland FC and Chicken Inn FC, played on Friday, 23 May 2025, at Rufaro Stadium, was abandoned.

We await the Match Commissioner and Referees’ reports on the matter for determination in accordance with the PSL Rules and Regulations. Furthermore, both clubs will be requested to submit written reports on the events that transpired.

The PSL regrets any inconvenience caused to its members, stakeholders, and partners,” said Bare.

She added that no further comment would be made until all relevant documentation had been received and reviewed.

The incident has raised concerns over crowd control and player safety in local football, with the league now under pressure to take decisive disciplinary measures.

Stay Covered Anywhere With 4×4 Vehicle Insurance.

Having a four-by-four vehicle gives one freedom, authority, and adaptability. Whether you are navigating off-road paths, rural roads, or urban streets, your car is meant to handle more than a standard vehicle. But greater capabilities also bring special hazards. Having the appropriate 4×4 vehicle insurance by comparing different policies at https://www.quoteradar.co.uk/ is crucial—not only for legal protection but also for peace of mind wherever you drive.

What Makes 4×4 insurance Special?

4 × 4 vehicles, also known as four-wheel drives, are often used in ways regular cars are not. You could drive off-road, tow heavy weights, or alter your car for increased performance. Normal vehicle insurance might not offer sufficient protection for these events.

Specialist 4×4 insurance is meant to reflect the specific usage of these cars. It takes into account several elements, including stronger engines, higher value, extras, and off-road driving. This guarantees you are adequately covered in the event of an accident, theft, or damage.

Why Do You Need a Particular 4×4 Cover?

Many owners of 4×4 assume a typical vehicle insurance policy would be adequate. This could be a significant disaster, though. A basic policy might not pay out if you use your car for work, take it off-road, or make changes. Specific 4×4 insurance is vital for the following few reasons:

  • Most usual policies cover driving on-road; off-road use is not covered. Your claim might be denied if your 4×4 gets damaged off-road and your insurance hasn’t approved covering that use.
  • Many owners of 4×4 add light bars, raised suspension, winches, or massive tires. These changes might not be reimbursed unless you inform your insurer.
  • Four-by-four vehicles are heavier and may be costlier to fix. They are also often employed in challenging surroundings, raising the risk of damage.

Ensure your insurance covers Europe if you intend to take your 4×4 abroad for a road or off-road excursion. However, not all policies provide this coverage; limits might be present in some policies. See whether off-road driving is addressed abroad and which nations are included. A specialist policy guarantees your car is covered for what you really use it for—beyond only the minimum road mileage.

Advice On Finding The Appropriate 4×4 Insurance:

Choosing the appropriate cover need not be difficult. These are some suggestions to assist you in finding the best plan for your requirements:

  • Be Upfront About How You Utilize The Car: Whether it’s daily commuting, weekend off-roading, or work-related use, always inform your insurer. Hiding usage information could void your cover.
  • Declare All Changes: Any variation from the factory norm has to be reported. Even cosmetic modifications could impact your policy.
  • Compare Specialist Providers: Some insurers concentrate on four-by-four vehicles and know their particular risks better than general suppliers. A quote from them is worth consideration. Visit and get QuoteRadar 4×4 insurance uk to find competitive insurance at affordable rate.
  • Think About Voluntary Excess And No-Claims Discount: Raising your excess might lower your premium, but only if you are willing to pay more in the event of a claim. One also wise approach is to protect your no-claims bonus.
  • Look For Supplementary Coverages: Search for extras, such as breakdown cover, off-road recovery, or legal aid, particularly if you often travel to isolated places.

Multi-Vehicle or Club Discounts:

Some insurers provide multi-vehicle discounts if you own more than one car—particularly if you possess a fleet of off-road or 4×4 vehicles. This helps each car be adequately insured and lowers your total expenses. Moreover, suppose you belong to a 4×4 club or off-roading group. In that case, insurers may offer reductions just for being a member, recognizing that enthusiasts often take better care of their cars and adhere to safety standards.

Final thoughts

4×4 vehicles are meant for versatility, work, and adventure. That much power, however, does carry obligation. The correct 4×4 insurance guarantees you coverage on the road, off it, or anywhere between. Don’t accept a standard policy that does not match your vehicle usage. Take the time to look for a personalized cover that will boost your driving confidence. Stay covered anywhere—your 4×4 can go wherever you want with the correct insurance.

Tagwirei Names “Real Chigananda” In Masvingo

By A Correspondent

Controversial ZANU PF-linked businessman Kuda Tagwirei on Friday sparked laughter and raised eyebrows when he jokingly named Obey Chimuka, director of Fossil Contracting, as the “real chigananda” during an official event in Masvingo.

Speaking at the Leadership Success Series and Land Tenure Implementation Programme held at Masvingo Polytechnic, Tagwirei, who is the CEO and Chairperson of Sakunda Holdings, introduced Chimuka to the audience with a mix of humour and irony.

“This is Obey Chimuka, the director of Fossil Company. Uyu ndiye chigananda manje,” Tagwirei said, laughing as the crowd responded with giggles. “This young man, you need to know him.”

The term chigananda has become widely associated with ZANU PF elites accused of looting state resources or benefitting disproportionately from government-linked contracts. Ironically, Tagwirei himself is often named among the so-called zvigananda, having faced allegations of corruption and state capture over the years — claims he has repeatedly denied.

The event was attended by several high-profile figures, including the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Ezra Chadzamira; ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Chairman Hon. Senator Clemence Mavhenyengwa; Vice Chairman T. Mugabe; Commissioner Kondongwe; Miss Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa; and Permanent Secretary Pazvakavambwa.

Minister of ICT Tatenda Mavetera also graced the occasion. Her ministry, in partnership with Sakunda Holdings, is set to roll out the Leadership Success Series and Land Tenure Implementation Programme across all 10 provinces, with Masvingo being the first stop.

Tagwirei’s remarks, while seemingly made in jest, have stirred renewed conversation around the controversial term chigananda, especially given the presence of senior government and party officials at the event.

20,000 Families Face Eviction In Epworth

By A Correspondent- More than 16,500 homes in Epworth are set to be demolished in what is shaping up to be one of Zimbabwe’s largest mass evictions in recent years, evoking memories of past forced removals that left thousands homeless.

The government says the targeted structures were built on land originally set aside for schools, clinics, industrial zones, and key infrastructure such as Harare Drive. The latest crackdown comes amid a broader campaign to restore urban planning order and curb the influence of land barons, who have illegally parcelled out state land to desperate home seekers.

This development emerged during a workshop on Thursday, where local authorities in Harare Metropolitan Province presented updates on their draft master plans to Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Charles Tavengwa.

Epworth Local Board’s Spatial Planner, Mr Pardon Chibuwe, said the affected homes were located on land meant for public amenities.

“Our study shows that about 16,500 households have illegally settled on land meant for schools, clinics, and industrial use,” he said. “These settlements create land-use conflicts that the local board must now urgently resolve.”

Chibuwe blamed unscrupulous land barons for the illegal occupation and said the local board was exploring densification as a partial solution. This would involve downsizing residential stands and constructing vertical housing units to accommodate displaced residents — though this process would still involve some evictions.

“We have about 2,500 stands averaging 300m² earmarked for densification,” he said, acknowledging that Epworth now has no land left for essential services such as cemeteries, schools, churches, or industry.

The same concerns were echoed by Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume, who warned that illegal settlements now threaten to outnumber legal, rate-paying households in the city.

“We plan to demolish about 5,000 houses, but this is just a small fraction of the over 100,000 illegal structures across Harare,” Mafume said. “Children are walking 8 km to school, clinics are non-existent, and homes are flooding — all because of unregulated development.”

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Mafume added:

“These illegal homes are built on schools, clinics, open spaces, and sports grounds. We paused demolitions due to elections and the SADC summit, but the issue must now be corrected.”

Chitungwiza Municipality’s Director of Works, Mr Talent Mushinga, also raised the alarm, noting that residential sprawl without industrial and commercial development has left the satellite town heavily reliant on Harare for jobs and services.

“Forty-six years after independence, Chitungwiza remains predominantly residential, with no central business district or high street of its own,” he said. “We’re struggling to rein in land barons and balance residential growth with industrial development.”

Minister Tavengwa said the master planning process was part of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s “Call to Action” initiative, launched in 2023 to improve local governance and service delivery.

“Of the four metropolitan local authorities, three — Epworth, Chitungwiza, and Ruwa — have submitted their draft plans. Harare is still finalising theirs, partly due to funding delays,” he said.

A Troubled History of Evictions

The looming demolitions in Epworth are reminiscent of Operation Murambatsvina in 2005, when the government razed informal settlements across the country, leaving over 700,000 people homeless or without livelihoods, according to United Nations estimates. The operation drew international condemnation for its brutality and lack of alternative housing plans.

Despite years of promises to regularise informal settlements, Zimbabwe continues to experience land chaos driven by urban migration, a broken housing market, and corruption within local government and political structures.

Is Gen. Chiwenga Really “History”? A Look at Mwanawevhu’s Claim

Mwanawevhu’s comment

NEWS ANALYSIS: Is General Chiwenga Really “History”? A Look at Mwanawevhu’s Provocative Claim Amid a Military Petition Against Mnangagwa

By Dorrothy Moyo

24 May 2025

Tichatonga Mwanawevhu’s bold Facebook post declaring General Constantino Chiwenga “history” has triggered heated debate, especially as it emerges that the military has formally accepted a petition calling for the retirement of President Emmerson Mnangagwa — the very man Chiwenga is accused of selling out to. Mwanawevhu’s post, accompanied by a 2018 image of a visibly frail Chiwenga, suggests that the retired general no longer commands influence and has abandoned his comrades for self-preservation.

But how accurate, or perhaps premature, is this conclusion?

1.

The “Chiwenga is History” Claim

Mwanawevhu asserts that Chiwenga is finished — mentally and politically — arguing that he long ago sold out, opting for survival over resistance. He implies that Chiwenga is now merely a passenger in Zimbabwe’s political journey, with others like Valerio Sibanda and Kudakwashe Tagwirei poised to take centre stage.

This claim rests on two major premises:

  • That Chiwenga no longer holds leverage within the military or ZANU PF, and
  • That the ongoing succession manoeuvres exclude him.

While it is true that Chiwenga has appeared absent in key political decisions and has seemingly aligned himself with Mnangagwa since the post-2017 coup dispensation, it’s too soon to declare his political obituary.

2.

The Petition to Retire Mnangagwa

The most compelling counterpoint to Mwanawevhu’s narrative is the recent development where military officers accepted — and stamped — a constitutional petition led by civilians calling for President Mnangagwa’s retirement due to incapacitation and corruption. This signals fractures within the security sector, which remains Zimbabwe’s ultimate power broker.

If Chiwenga were truly a spent force, as suggested, then such a petition would never reach a military desk without immediate rejection. His very legacy is built on decisive moves within the military, including the 2017 ouster of Robert Mugabe. The military’s quiet acceptance of the petition suggests one of two things:

  • Either Chiwenga is strategically silent but supportive of Mnangagwa’s exit, or
  • He has lost control, but others within the military are now taking the baton — a scenario that would still trace its lineage to his legacy.

3.

Tagwirei’s Political Entry and Sibanda’s Rise

Mwanawevhu hints at a “Tagwirei-Sibanda” future, with the fuel tycoon stepping into politics and the army commander Valerio Sibanda replacing Kembo Mohadi. Indeed, Tagwirei’s growing visibility and political ambitions are no secret. However, his entry does not equate to Chiwenga’s total irrelevance — not unless the military officially casts him off, which has not yet happened.

4.

Health, Image, and Reality

The use of a 2018 photo of a sickly Chiwenga is a powerful visual statement but misleading in real-time analysis. Chiwenga has since made several recoveries and resumed visible government roles. Using outdated imagery to support claims of his current weakness diminishes the objectivity of the argument.

Conclusion:

Mwanawevhu’s analysis reflects a growing public frustration with Chiwenga’s silence and perceived capitulation, but declaring him “history” may be premature. The military’s quiet rebellion through the petition process could indicate either Chiwenga’s subtle resurgence or a legacy that outlives his active involvement.

Until there is a decisive move — either by Chiwenga or against him — his role in Zimbabwe’s fluid power matrix remains ambiguous but far from finished.

The proposed name change, part of a broader corporate repositioning strategy, will be put to a vote at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) scheduled for 13 June, to be held virtually. Shareholders are being encouraged to log in and weigh in on what could be a defining moment for the company’s future.

According to a circular released on Friday, the rebrand is more than cosmetic — it’s a strategic move designed to align the company’s identity with its expanding ambitions in the tech and innovation space, while honouring its roots.

“The initials ‘TN’ are a tribute to the founder of TN Bank, Tawanda Nyambirai,” the circular states. “It’s a powerful nod to a legacy of innovation and excellence in finance, law, and asset management.”

Nyambirai’s name now enters the same echelon as global financial icons — J.P. Morgan, Barclays, Wells Fargo — and now, potentially, TN CyberTech.

The board describes the shift as not just a name change but a full-scale strategic reset. Directors have been authorised to oversee all steps necessary to finalise the rebrand, pending approval from the Registrar of Companies.

The symbolism runs deep.

“TN stands for innovation, dignity, industry, faith, originality, and humility,” the statement reads — values Nyambirai has upheld throughout a distinguished 30-year career.

The move could significantly reshape public perception of the brand and sharpen its competitive edge in Zimbabwe’s fast-evolving fintech and financial sectors.

Rebrand or resist?
Shareholders will decide. And the next chapter begins with just two letters — T.N.

Mnangagwa Hoodwinks The Elderly With Food Hampers

By A Correspondent

MHONDORO-MUBAIRA – In a move critics say masks deeper issues of economic mismanagement and social neglect, the Government on Wednesday handed out food hampers, blankets, and essential supplies to elderly residents in Mhondoro-Mubaira—an act many see as symbolic rather than transformative.

Marketed under the banner of “leaving no one and no place behind,” the event appeared more as a carefully staged photo opportunity than a genuine solution to the persistent hardships faced by the elderly in rural Zimbabwe. While the donations offered temporary relief, many questioned the sustainability of such once-off gestures in addressing long-term poverty and exclusion.

Traditional leaders who attended the event offered cautious praise, though their remarks reflected more on the need for consistency than celebration.

“As traditional leaders, we are grateful that government programmes are reaching our communities,” said Village Head Mr. Victor Jarube of Chimbiro. “We received seed and inputs before the rains, and now we are receiving blankets and food. This reflects a leadership that has the people at heart.”

However, behind the scenes, frustration simmers among local communities who see the repeated donation cycles as a smokescreen. The handouts, which come without a broader strategy for elderly welfare—such as access to pensions, proper healthcare, or housing support—are seen by some as political bait.

Village Head Mr. Fibion Rushare of Mukono highlighted the challenge: “We have received blankets for our clinics, which is a huge boost for our waiting mothers. The elderly have also benefited. This is significant given that many of them live alone and have limited access to basic services.”

Yet, for many in Mhondoro-Mubaira, the reality remains unchanged. The donations offer only short-term comfort, while the root causes of suffering—rampant inflation, underfunded health systems, and isolation—go unaddressed.

As winter sets in, the symbolic hampers may win headlines, but they do little to thaw the chilling conditions endured by Zimbabwe’s forgotten elderly.

Auxillia Mnangagwa Walks On Red Carpet In France, Totally Ignoring Plight Of Suffering Zimbabwean Women

By A Correspondent

While First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa graced the red carpet at UNESCO Africa Week in Paris this past week, many Zimbabwean women back home watched in frustration as their daily struggles went unaddressed by the very person tasked with championing their causes.

Draped in elegance and celebrated as a guest of honour by UNESCO, Dr Mnangagwa used the platform to meet with France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron, and discuss pressing global issues. But for many in Zimbabwe, the dazzling Paris visit highlighted a growing disconnect between political elites and the everyday woman struggling with poverty, inflation, and lack of access to basic healthcare.

“I don’t understand how she can speak about child protection in France while our own hospitals don’t even have painkillers,” said Ruvimbo, a single mother from Chitungwiza. “The women here are suffering, and we are invisible to our own leaders.”

Despite addressing topics like women empowerment and child protection during her one-hour closed-door meeting with Madame Macron, critics argue that these issues remain neglected at home. Women’s rights activists expressed disappointment that the First Lady could prioritize international diplomacy over immediate local concerns.

A government source who requested anonymity acknowledged the disconnect. “While the First Lady’s trip was diplomatically significant, the optics were unfortunate,” the source said. “There is a real and growing perception that the leadership is more concerned about international appearances than domestic impact. It’s something we need to reflect on seriously.”

Back in Zimbabwe, grassroots women’s organizations continue to plead for tangible support—from maternity wards without electricity to young girls dropping out of school due to period poverty. Many say they feel left behind.

“We’re tired of lip service,” said a community leader in Mbare. “We don’t need red carpets. We need action. We need dignity.”

As Auxillia Mnangagwa returns from her high-profile engagement abroad, the question remains: will the suffering voices of Zimbabwean women finally be heard above the applause of foreign audiences?

Tamsanqa Mlilo on DD

I was rummaging through my modest library and stumbled upon some interesting facts about the late Dr Dumiso Dabengwa.

Sometime in 1988 he fielded questions.
A journalist asked, “Do you think your contribution in the struggle has been appreciated? For instance, do you think if you died, you would be buried at Heroes Acre?
Dumiso Dabengwa: (Chuckle) “I made my contribution to liberate my country. It got its independence, and that ends there. All that I look forward to is to see the country develop- to see the ideals for which we struggled recognised and put into practice”.

Journalist: “Do you feel bitter with the authorities over your arrest and detention, or is there any mutual bitterness between you and them?”

DD. “I did as any human being would have done. I had my own bitterness about the way I was treated. But I did not-and still do not- begrudge anybody because I think in the first place somehow, somewhere, someone was misled and failed to realise our complete innocence in all the allegations made against us.”

I was shattered when news started filtering in that Dr Dumiso Dabengwa had passed on. His death robbed Zimbabwe of a formidable voice of reason and moderation. Death be not proud. The late senior Zapu leader and Zipra commander was a man of courage and moderation and his demise left a permanent void in Zimbabwe.

I was never close to him, but what I know is mostly gleaned from secondary sources, largely from comrades who served under him during the protracted liberation struggle.

All of them without exception have expressed much admiration and regard for the revered fallen hero.

I vividly recall intensely following his Treason Trial on BBC Focus on Africa for updates and any developments. I also checked The Newsweek and Time magazines.

I was overcome with anger and desperation when Dumiso Dabengwa and his colleagues were detained after acquittal by the highest court in the land.

That sombre day will remain ingrained in my memory for a long time. They had to languish at Chikurubi Maximum Prison for many years at the pleasure of the Prime Minister Robert Mugabe.

Even the late Zapu leader Dr Joshua Nkomo during the launch of his memoirs in London, Nkomo: The Story of My Life, expressed his disgust and dismay at the continued detention of top Zipra commanders after their acquittal by the courts. They were eventually released after spending almost half a decade at the notorious Chikurubi prison.

Sadly, General Lookout Masuku did not survive the prison years. He died in chains.

The vindictive Zanu PF regime had callously turned down the Zapu request to temporarily release Dabengwa to bury his friend and colleague General Lookout Masuku. The late Zimbabwe National Army Deputy Commander General Lookout Masuku was eventually laid to rest at Lady Stanley Cemetery in the outskirts of Bulawayo city.

My first encounter with Dumiso Dabengwa was at Large City Hall during a performance by Amandla Cultural Ensemble. I got an opportunity to greet him and wish him well as he had just been released from detention.

The second time was in South Africa through Joshua Mhambi. I dropped everything that day to meet DD. I had some burning questions related to the exile years in Zambia, execution of the liberation struggle and his wasted years in Mugabe’s jail. He was candid and forthright in his responses. Dr Dabengwa was a national asset and an inexhaustible fountain of knowledge and wisdom.

The meeting started early in the evening and stretched until morning.
That same night, we had our tea moment with President Jacob Zuma at his house.

Although Dr Dumiso Dabengwa sadly passed away a few years ago, his memories will linger on forever. He was a true liberation hero and consistently upheld the values and ethos of the liberation struggle as espoused by the late ZAPU leader Dr Joshua Nkomo and his peers.

Dumiso Dabengwa was laid to rest next to His Mother and Father in Ntabazinduna. A Memorial Service was held today in Ntabazinduna,

Armed Unit Abducts Gomwe’s Mother in Crackdown Over Military Petition

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Harare – 23 May 2025 – More than eight armed men were Friday dispatched in a targeted operation to track down four Zimbabweans behind a petition recently submitted to the military demanding President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s immediate retirement.

The dramatic move follows the submission earlier this week of a formal petition to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), calling for Mnangagwa’s removal on grounds of incapacitation and corruption. The document, stamped and acknowledged by military officials, has reportedly unsettled the President and triggered high-level security responses.

ZimEye understands that Gomwe’s mother was abducted Friday evening at around 8pm from her home in Budiriro, Harare, and transported to her son’s rural homestead in Zvimba. The operation is part of an ongoing manhunt for Gifford Gomwe, one of the petition’s main authors, alongside Tawanda Jena, Rose Chirenje, and Sarudzai Rushwaya.

The President, who has not publicly commented on the matter, is accused of instructing the armed men.

His spokesperson George Charamba appeared to weigh in cryptically via social media, directing a jab at ZimEye editor and the Gold Mafia documentary researching founder Simba Chikanza, tweeting: “Hauneti here nhai Simba – WHEN DO YOU GET TIRED?”

President Mnangagwa operates a zero tolerance to dissenting voices’ policy with which he states that anyone opposing the extension of his presidential term will have their days on earth reduced as a consequence.

On their way from Harare to Zvimba, the unnamed men decided to dump Gomwe’s 72 year old mother, Edna Musarurwa.

“When they took my mother from Harare when they were approaching Norton at Karina, they dunpled her near the road block that’s close to the Norton police station,” Gomwe told ZimEye.

He continued saying, “This is now a clear abduction case that is being arranged by a small group in the ruling upper class.”

Meanwhile, sources confirm that the original petition remains secured and untampered with in military files. The contents invoke Section 212 of the Constitution, a clause empowering the defence forces to uphold the Constitution, peace, and rule of law.

Military insiders say the petition is being treated internally as a quasi-legal instrument – a “lawsuit” against Mnangagwa – and has generated significant support among mid- and lower-ranking officers. The President is reportedly furious that ZDF officials received the document without rejecting it.

The latest clampdown mirrors a similar operation carried out against activist Blessed Geza in March, in what analysts see as a widening attempt to silence dissenters and prevent a military-political shift.

President Mnangagwa was reached for comment.

Gomwe’s whereabouts where unclear at the time of writing, although he briefly notified ZimEye hinting he is safe, though unsettled.

The ministry of defence was reached for comment and none was availed at the time of writing. – ZimEye | LIVE BROADCAST FOLLOWS

Murambatsvina Hits Hundreds In Mabvuku

By A Correspondent- Hundreds of families in Donnybrook Chizhanje, Mabvuku, face imminent eviction after the government issued a directive ordering them to vacate the area by the end of the month.

The eviction has reignited fears of a return to Operation Murambatsvina, the 2005 mass demolition campaign that left over 700,000 Zimbabweans homeless.

The land in question is claimed by Shelter Zimbabwe, a private land developer suspected of having long-standing ties to top ZANU PF politicians.

Shelter Zimbabwe has accused so-called land barons of illegally subdividing and selling housing stands to desperate home seekers.

The developer argues that the settlements violate the Regional, Town, and Country Planning Act, and insists that the land was never approved for residential use.

According to residents, the evictions come after years of uncertainty and broken promises. Many purchased their stands from politically connected land barons operating under the guise of community development.

These middlemen, often protected by ruling party officials, sold the stands without formal title deeds or municipal approval.

Shelter Zimbabwe’s ownership of the land traces back to a controversial allocation process during Zimbabwe’s land reform era, when vast tracts of peri-urban land were handed to politically aligned developers under opaque circumstances.

Several directors of Shelter Zimbabwe are said to have close personal and business ties to senior ZANU PF officials, raising concerns that the evictions are part of a broader political and economic strategy to consolidate urban land control.

In many such cases, residents say they were encouraged by ZANU PF-linked cooperatives and ward leaders to “regularize” their occupation through small payments, with promises that the land would eventually be formally approved. “They told us to build and that the party was working on our papers,” said a Mabvuku resident, who now fears losing her home.

The Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) confirmed the dispute and issued a stern warning to home seekers.

The looming demolitions have stirred painful memories of Murambatsvina, which the United Nations once described as a “violation of international law.” With elections behind them, critics say the ruling party is now clamping down on settlements it once tolerated for votes.

Meanwhile, residents of Donnybrook Chizhanje are pleading for intervention and a halt to the demolitions. “We built our homes here because we had nowhere else to go. If they destroy our houses, where do they expect us to live?” asked another resident.

Trump’s Sad Ignorance Could Make Julius Malema President Of SA

THIRD EYE ANALYSIS
Trump’s White House Meeting Backfires: Malema’s Rise, Ramaphosa’s Poise, and South Africa’s Global Spotlight
By Dr. Raymond Chamba

In a world that’s increasingly defined by spectacle, symbolism, and seismic political realignments, the recent White House engagements between U.S. President Donald Trump and President Cyril Ramaphosa may have just redrawn the global political canvas—unexpectedly handing Julius Malema a golden coronation.

Let me take a different view on what has just unfolded.

Circulating pictures paired against each other

What we witnessed was not merely a diplomatic courtesy call or the airing of grievances about South African farm murders. No. This moment spiraled far beyond its intended script. It became a global catalyst. The South African cause has now gone planetary. And as the world hurtles toward the 2028 election cycle in both South Africa and the United States, this spectacle revealed deeper truths: ideological confrontations are becoming existential, not just electoral.

A Clash of Worlds—and Orders

The Trump doctrine, now in its second iteration, is no longer just a clash of cultures—it’s a declaration of indifference to everything that does not serve immediate, transactional self-interest. In that worldview, decency, continuity, and diplomacy are foreign concepts. Trump’s America is not just post-truth—it is post-ally, post-principle, and dangerously post-moral.

But President Ramaphosa’s handling of this moment was nothing short of remarkable. With calm dignity, restraint, and strategic clarity, Ramaphosa did not only address Trump. He addressed the world. “Rama-poise” was on full display—statesmanship in the face of provocation.

And in that quiet, deliberate grace, he may have unintentionally elevated his most vocal domestic rival.

Malema: Anointed by Absence, Empowered by the Spectacle

Julius Malema was not in the room, but somehow he emerged as the central figure. The corporate-political elite pushing a Government of National Unity (GNU) in South Africa may seek to sideline the “rabble rousers” of the EFF and MK Party, but this White House moment turned that strategy on its head.

The message sent—perhaps unintentionally—was clear: Malema is inevitable.
In trying to control the narrative, the establishment handed it to him for free.

He doesn’t need to fight for visibility anymore. The world saw, the lights dimmed, and the stage was set. What we witnessed was a silent coronation, conducted with the very gravitas that elite institutions thought they had reserved for more “acceptable” leaders.

And now? He shall never lack friends. He shall never lack resources.

The Global Reverberations

This isn’t just about South Africa. Everything that happens now, especially in the era of instantaneous digital consumption and surveillance, spills over borders. The struggle for Western democratic identity—a contested, fragile, ongoing experiment—is now playing out on African soil, too.

If American institutions—so historically selective in their moral judgments—cannot express unambiguous support for a stable South African center, then capital and influence will inevitably shift toward the forces they once feared. But here’s the twist: those very forces now look attractive in a world tired of hypocrisy and double standards.

Investment will flow—not just for profit, but for alignment. South Africa is now the global theatre of economic intrigue and political transformation.

The Soundtrack of a New Age: Grand Political Amapiano

We are entering a new reality—a grand performance where politics is being choreographed to the rhythmic unpredictability of Amapiano. Noisy, layered, youthful, rebellious, and unforgettable. South Africa is no longer on the periphery. It is the main stage.

The 2025 White House meeting crystallized the fights ahead—in both South Africa and America. The traditional order underestimated the power of political optics in the age of algorithmic acceleration. They forgot that narratives now move faster than policy, and those who control symbolism control sentiment.

Whether you hate him or love him, prepare yourselves for the idea of President Julius Malema. This was not the end of a chapter. It was the beginning of a new political genre.

We will watch. We will listen. Welcome to the Amapiano of global realignment.

ANOTHER CHIVAYO ACCIDENT: Wicknell Car Money Donation Backfires As Reuben Barwe Slips “You Removed This From Somewhere”

screen grab of Reuben Barwe’s thank you message on video

BREAKING | “YOU REMOVED THIS FROM SOMEWHERE”: Reuben Barwe Slips, Sealing Wicknell Chivayo’s Fate in International Money Laundering Probe

23 May 2025 – Harare

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | A dramatic new twist has emerged in the unfolding corruption saga surrounding Wicknell Chivayo — and this time, it comes from the most unexpected source: veteran state broadcaster Reuben Barwe himself.

In what was meant to be a cheerful thank-you message, Barwe — who acknowledged receiving a US$100,000 cash deposit and a vehicle from Chivayo — may have just delivered the most incriminating line of the year.

“May where you have removed this be added more,” Barwe says in the now-viral video, inadvertently confirming what investigators have long suspected: that the funds being paraded as “gifts” are not Chivayo’s legitimate earnings, but likely siphoned from public or illicit sources.

The phrase — “removed this from somewhere” — is being dissected across legal and diplomatic circles, where it is being interpreted as a public admission that the money in question came from an undisclosed and potentially criminal origin.

A GIFT OR A LAUNDERING DEVICE?

Chivayo, already under investigation by South Africa’s Financial Intelligence Centre for laundering R1 billion in public funds, has been flaunting extravagant “donations” to high-profile figures — including church leaders, musicians, and now journalists — in what many believe to be an elaborate laundering operation masked as philanthropy.

But with Barwe’s gaffe now immortalized on video, the case for criminal prosecution just received its smoking gun.

“The statement is damning,” said one legal analyst. “It confirms that even the recipients of these funds suspect — and publicly admit — that the source of the money is dubious. That’s not generosity. That’s money laundering in slow motion.”

INTERNATIONAL IMPLICATIONS

International observers say this latest development could finally seal Chivayo’s fate. His activities now risk triggering an Interpol Red Notice or coordinated cross-border arrest under existing treaties on transnational financial crimes.

What began as a performative public giveaway — wrapped in designer clothes, Rolls Royces, and religious platitudes — is rapidly unraveling into a global criminal liability.

Already, financial intelligence agencies in Europe and SADC member states have begun reviewing asset transfers and potential shell companies connected to Chivayo’s donations, with Barwe’s careless confirmation giving them ammunition to fast-track asset seizure and movement restrictions.

THE PRESIDENTIAL CONSENT ANGLE

Even more alarming is Barwe’s comment that “the President consented” to the gift. If proven true, this could rope Zimbabwe’s highest office into complicity — or at minimum, knowledge — of the circulation of possibly laundered money through public institutions and individuals.

That line alone could trigger further scrutiny from international sanctions monitors and diplomatic watchdogs concerned about state capture and elite impunity in Zimbabwe.

A SELF-INFLICTED COLLAPSE

For all his showboating, Wicknell Chivayo may now be watching his carefully curated empire collapse under the weight of his own ego — and the loose tongue of a 40-year state media loyalist.

Reuben Barwe was supposed to offer validation. Instead, he delivered a confession.

And with that, the doors to international prosecution may have just been flung wide open.

Developing story. More to follow as global authorities respond.

Yes, I want to acknowledge that Sir Wicknell deposited US$100,000 into my account and on top of the vehicle which he donated to me today. I want to thank him for his generosity. And I’ve been in service over 40 years, working for this country, being put on sanctions by the Americans and by the Europeans, but I stood first. And it is this young man who later on recognized that this man has been persistent, consistent for over 40 years, defending Zimbabwe’s interests on the box. And I’m very grateful. I also thank him and the President of the Republic for consenting that I should get this gift. Well appreciated, Sir Wicknell.

[thank you] for the gift which you have given me, a vehicle and $100,000, I have just consented to it today. May where you have removed this be added more. I appreciate that you have recognized me from the time when you were in grade two, as you said, that you actually knew my signature, Reuben Barwe, ZBC News, Harare. And I’m very grateful for having these two gifts. These are life-changing. Thank you very much.

Mnangagwa Rangers Seriously Faulty, Manufacturer Announces In Global Recall

By Farai D Hove | MASVINGO, ZIMBABWE – 18 April 2025 — It has emerged that the Ford Rangers used by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s security team during his arrival in Masvingo — on the same day he narrowly escaped injury in a faulty helicopter — is now officially under a global safety recall.

According to an urgent bulletin issued by the National Consumer Commission (NCC), the 2024 Ford Ranger models, are being recalled over a dangerous front suspension defect. The issue lies in the front lower control arm (FLCA), which may have been incorrectly fitted on the left-hand side of the vehicle. This defect can lead to sudden loss of steering control, posing a serious risk of crashes and injuries.

The NCC warns that this potentially catastrophic fault could result in complete loss of control of the vehicle, especially at high speeds or during emergency maneuvers — exactly the conditions often encountered during VIP and presidential convoy movements.

“The separation of the joint may result in loss of control of the affected wheel, with the corresponding effect on vehicle handling increasing,” the Commission states. “This may increase the risk of a crash or injury.”

The recall affects at least 25 vehicles in South Africa and Botswana alone, with more suspected across the SADC region. These vehicles, distributed throughout Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana and Swaziland, have now been flagged for urgent inspection and repair.

A Double Mechanical Threat

Mnangagwa’s arrival in Masvingo drew public attention after he travelled in the same model helicopter that nearly killed his pilot in 2024 — a move already described as reckless by aviation experts. But the situation now appears doubly dangerous as the Ford Ranger he used for the final leg of his trip is part of the defective fleet.

Eyewitnesses captured Mnangagwa being chauffeured in a grey Ranger shortly after touchdown — a vehicle many considered symbolic of elite power and rural outreach. Now, that same car has become a symbol of corporate and political oversight failure.

Ford South Africa Responds

Ford has since confirmed the recall and is offering free repairs to affected customers. Owners are advised to check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and contact their nearest dealership immediately.

“Consumers are required to contact the nearest authorised dealership for an appointment to have the defect repaired,” the NCC emphasized.

The recall places a glaring spotlight on both the safety protocols around the President’s transport and Ford’s quality assurance failures, particularly as more reports emerge from customers experiencing engine failures and part shortages.

Public Safety and Political Optics

This development is expected to raise questions about the vetting of official vehicles, especially during state functions. Critics argue the president’s public relations optics now border on recklessness, citing back-to-back reliance on faulty aircraft and faulty ground transport in a single high-profile trip.

As Zimbabweans mark Independence Day under flooded tents and malfunctioning logistics, the mechanical misfortunes dogging Mnangagwa have taken on both political and symbolic weight.

Is it negligence, or a series of ominous signs?

One thing is clear: both the skies and the roads are no longer predictable under his watch.

Arteta Hints at New Deal for In-Form Thomas Partey…

Sports Correspondent

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested that a contract extension could be in the works for midfielder Thomas Partey, praising his outstanding contributions this season.

“In terms of consistency, this has been Thomas’ best season,” Arteta said. “The way he has played, his performances, and his availability have all been exceptional. He’s a very important player for us.”

When asked directly if he wants Partey to stay at the club, Arteta simply responded, “Yeah.”

VP Chiwenga, Wife In Rare Cultural Attire

By Showbiz Reporter-Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga  Thursday made a grand appearance in striking traditional attire at the launch of the 2025 National Cultural Month in Chiredzi.

Dressed to impress, the couple arrived at Rusununguko Clinic ahead of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who laterofficially launched the event. The Chiwengas effortlessly stole the limelight, drawing admiration from dignitaries, cultural practitioners, and members of the public.

This latest public appearance reflects more than a nod to heritage.

It is the latest in a series of calculated moves by Chiwenga to craft a refined public image, one far removed from the hard military persona of his past.

In recent years, the former army general has rebranded himself as a polished statesman.

His classy wedding to the eloquent and fashion-savvy Miniyothabo in 2022 set a new tone for his public life.

Since then, Chiwenga has regularly appeared in designer suits, traditional regalia, and tailored cultural outfits that signal a deliberate shift from military fatigues to presidential polish.

But behind the glamour lies deep political intrigue.

Chiwenga is the man who led the military coup in 2017 that toppled long-time ruler Robert Mugabe, paving the way for Mnangagwa’s rise to power.

Yet, insiders say he was merely used by Mnangagwa to remove Mugabe and only to be sidelined soon after.

Now, Chiwenga appears to be slowly repositioning himself for a return to centre stage.

While state media reported the Chiredzi event as a celebration of cultural identity, Zanu PF’s online propagandists, known as “Varakashi”, were quick to spin Chiwenga’s presence as an endorsement of Mnangagwa’s increasingly contested 2030 agenda, a bid to remain in office beyond the constitutional two-term limit.

But sources close to the Vice President insist that nothing could be further from the truth.

“This was not about 2030. Chiwenga is carefully reminding the nation—and the party—who he is and where he came from,” said one source. “He knows how Mnangagwa used him. This was about visibility, legacy, and power.”

The symbolism of launching Cultural Month in full traditional attire, in front of war veterans and liberation figures, was not lost on observers.

It was a subtle but powerful message: Chiwenga remains rooted in the liberation ethos, yet he is also prepared to lead a modern, culturally grounded Zimbabwe.

With growing unease within Zanu PF over Mnangagwa’s succession plan and reports of factional tension mounting, Chiwenga’s moves are being closely watched, not just for their fashion statements, but for their political signals.

One thing is clear: he’s no longer just the general in uniform. He’s dressing for the presidency.

Love Your Country, Be Proud Of Your Nation, Mnangagwa Accuses Citizens Of Shunning Own Culture

By A Correspondent

CHIREDZI – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on Zimbabweans to take pride in their country and heritage, urging citizens to embrace unity and celebrate the nation’s cultural diversity.

Speaking during the launch of the National Culture Month commemorations at Rusununguko Clinic in Chiredzi District, Masvingo Province, the ZANU PF leader emphasized the importance of national identity and patriotism in shaping a resilient society.

“Be proud of your country, be proud of your heritage,” Mnangagwa said. “Cultural diversity is meant to unite people, not divide them. Let us continue to celebrate our roots and values as Zimbabweans.”

The event, which ran under the theme “Celebrating Indigenous Voice,” brought together traditional leaders, government officials, artists, and community members to reflect on the country’s cultural richness and promote inclusivity.

Mnangagwa also praised what he termed the achievements of the Second Republic in fostering national cohesion.

“The Second Republic has made strides in uniting our people. We have opened up spaces for cultural expression and empowered communities to take ownership of their traditions,” he claimed.

Critics, however, argue that the government’s repeated emphasis on unity often sidelines voices calling for political reforms and greater freedoms. Despite the president’s optimistic tone, some Zimbabweans view such declarations as attempts to paper over deep-seated divisions and economic struggles affecting ordinary citizens.

Nonetheless, the president remained resolute in his message of cultural pride and patriotism.

“Our heritage defines who we are. As a nation, we must promote our languages, customs, and traditional practices to ensure that future generations know where they come from,” Mnangagwa told the crowd.

As the commemorations continue throughout May, the government has pledged to support artists, cultural institutions, and indigenous knowledge systems—though many await to see if those promises will translate into tangible action.

No Public Exams On May 26, ZIMSEC Tells Candidates

By A Correspondent

HARARE – The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has officially confirmed that no Ordinary Level or Advanced Level public examinations will be written on Monday, 26 May 2025, due to the observance of the Africa Day holiday.

In a public notice issued this week, ZIMSEC reminded candidates that the June examination session will commence on Friday, 23 May 2025. However, Monday, 26 May will be a non-examination day.

“Reminder to all ZIMSEC Ordinary Level and Advanced Level June examination candidates! Examinations begin on Friday, 23 May 2025. Please note, there will be no exam on Monday, 26 May 2025 due to the Africa Day holiday,” read the statement.

While Africa Day is celebrated annually on 25 May, the holiday falls on a Sunday this year. In accordance with Zimbabwe’s public holiday laws, when a holiday falls on a weekend, it is observed on the next working day — in this case, Monday, 26 May.

Originally, some candidates were scheduled to write key subjects such as English and Combined Science on that Monday, but ZIMSEC has now revised the timetable to accommodate the national holiday.

A ZIMSEC official, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained, “We are committed to ensuring that all candidates have a fair and undisrupted examination experience. The change reflects our adherence to national regulations around public holidays.”

The revised timetable is expected to be shared with schools and candidates in due course to avoid confusion and ensure smooth administration of the examinations.

Candidates and schools have been urged to stay alert to further updates and prepare accordingly for the adjusted exam schedule.

“These words in the context of the articles are wrongful and defamatory… intended and understood by the readers… to mean the plaintiff is a dishonest person, hater, corrupt liar, thief of loose morals…”

As this lawsuit unfolds, political observers are raising fresh questions over whether Zimbabwe’s judiciary will treat Mamombe’s case with the same gravity and swiftness afforded to Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s perceived favourite, Fadzayi Mahere.

Mahere recently secured what legal analysts describe as an “irreversible” and controversial court victory, backed by a judiciary many accuse of bias toward state-aligned opposition figures. The same label has been attached to Sengezo Tshabangu, who also benefitted from disputed rulings widely seen as aiding ZANU PF’s agenda to fragment the opposition.

In a scathing cartoon circulated online, Justice Malaba is depicted figuratively “carrying” Mahere and Tshabangu to power, while sidelining Nelson Chamisa — symbolizing the judiciary’s partisan role in restructuring Zimbabwe’s opposition to the regime’s liking.

Now, as Mamombe seeks legal redress against character assassination, many Zimbabweans are watching the courts closely:

Will the same judicial system that elevated Mahere with questionable impartiality deliver justice for Mamombe — or will it continue to protect only those within a privileged political bracket?

Mamombe has given Nyandoro 10 days to respond. The nation awaits the court’s next move.

Mnangagwa Praises “Bootlicking” Traditional Leaders

By A Correspondent

CHIREDZI – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has once again stirred controversy after openly praising traditional leaders for their loyalty and role in preserving Zimbabwean culture—remarks critics say expose a deeper political agenda that blurs the line between cultural stewardship and partisan allegiance.

Speaking Thursday at the launch of National Culture Month commemorations in Chiredzi, Mnangagwa commended chiefs and headmen for their unwavering support of government programs and their efforts to “safeguard national heritage.”

His comments, however, drew immediate scrutiny from opposition figures and civil society organizations who argue that traditional leaders have increasingly become mouthpieces for the ruling ZANU PF party.

“Our traditional leaders are reliable custodians of our culture and heritage,” said Mnangagwa. “They stand firm in their values and are helping carry forward the legacy of Zimbabwean identity.”

But beyond the rhetoric of cultural preservation lies a growing concern. In many rural communities, traditional leaders are accused of acting as de facto political commissars, coercing villagers into supporting ZANU PF and often denying services or aid to those seen as opposition sympathizers.

“We all know what’s really going on,” said a villager in Chivi, who requested anonymity. “You can’t get farming inputs or food aid unless you’re seen at ZANU PF meetings or rallies. The chief keeps a list.”

While Mnangagwa emphasized the Second Republic’s commitment to empowering artists and cultural practitioners—saying, “The Second Republic also remains committed in empowering artists and cultural practitioners in our society who are important in enshrining diversity and peace for future generations”—many see this as window dressing in a larger game of consolidating rural loyalty ahead of future elections.

A local civic rights advocate, who spoke on condition of anonymity, criticized the remarks. “What the president calls loyalty, we call manipulation. Traditional leaders are supposed to serve everyone in their communities, not campaign for political parties.”

Despite constitutional provisions requiring neutrality from traditional leaders, the growing alignment between the chieftaincy and the ruling party continues to raise alarms about political fairness and democratic accountability.

As National Culture Month unfolds under the theme of unity and diversity, the irony is not lost on many Zimbabweans: culture is being celebrated, but democracy in rural areas remains under quiet siege.

Mnangagwa Administration Mocks Striking Teachers…

By A Correspondent

HARARE – A wave of discontent is sweeping through Zimbabwe’s education sector, as teachers from various unions under the Federation of Zimbabwe Educators Union (FOZEU) have announced they will begin an indefinite strike on Tuesday, May 26, 2025, demanding a significant salary adjustment and better working conditions.

The educators are calling for their monthly salaries to be raised to US$1,250, arguing that the current remuneration is far below the cost of living and undermines their ability to perform their duties with dignity.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerai Moyo, FOZEU secretary-general Obert Masaraure wrote: “We are formally notifying the ministry that educators under FOZEU will be engaging in an indefinite strike starting May 26. This decision reflects our members’ desperation after repeated appeals for fair wages went unanswered.”

Masaraure emphasized that the strike is a last resort and said teachers will hold peaceful pickets at their workplaces. “This is not an act of rebellion,” he stated. “It is a call for justice. Teachers are merely asking for the means to survive, commute to work, and support their families.”

The unions involved in the action include the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), Education Union of Zimbabwe, Professional Educators Union of Zimbabwe, and the Zimbabwe Visually Impaired Teachers Union. They met in Harare this week and unanimously resolved to proceed with the industrial action after what they described as “fruitless dialogue” with authorities.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education responded critically to the announcement, downplaying the scale of the protest.

“This so-called strike is nothing more than noise from a few politically motivated individuals parading as educators,” a ministry spokesperson said. “It does not reflect the stance of the majority of hardworking and committed teachers.”

However, teachers across the country have consistently lamented what they say are appalling working conditions, delayed salary reviews, and the ineffectiveness of the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) in addressing their concerns.

As the standoff intensifies, students and parents are bracing for potential disruptions to the school calendar, while educators hold firm, insisting the strike will continue until government acts on their demands.

Dhuterere and Wife Receive Dirty Cars From Chivayo

By A Correspondent

Controversial Zanu PF-linked businessman Wicknell Chivayo has gifted two vehicles to gospel musician Mambo Dhuterere and his wife.

Chivayo, who has faced allegations of looting state funds through the Gwanda Solar Project and other scandals, announced the donation in a lengthy social media post on Friday morning.

“Today I want to celebrate two incredible individuals who have revolutionized gospel music in Zimbabwe and beyond, particularly through their apostolic-style hymns,” Chivayo wrote. “From ‘Dare Guru’ to ‘Mweya Ndisesekedze,’ your music has united the nation, brought hope to the distressed, and been present at major events – including Zanu PF rallies.”

He revealed that two brand new white Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GD6 vehicles were ready for collection at Faramatsi Motors in Harare. He also pledged an additional cash gift: USD $50,000 for Mambo Dhuterere and USD $100,000 for his wife, acknowledging her role as “the backbone of the home.”

Addressing recent media speculation about the couple’s strained marriage, Chivayo expressed concern over reports they were living apart and referenced ongoing legal issues involving Mai Dhuterere. He clarified that the delay in gifting a vehicle was due to Dhuterere’s earlier public statement that he wasn’t in need of one, rather than any bad luck attributed to his wife.

“I have always respected your wife’s strength and support. She has been a vital part of your success,” Chivayo said, urging the couple to reconcile for the sake of their children and their shared Christian values.

Reflecting on his own experience with a broken marriage, Chivayo added: “You still have a chance to save what is precious. Let your love be restored, and may your union inspire others.”

Auxillia Mnangagwa Flies To France To Pose For Photos With French First Lady ?

Tshabangu–Mnangagwa GNU Deal Blows Up

By A Correspondent- A secret pact between controversial Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu and President Emmerson Mnangagwa to establish a Government of National Unity (GNU) that would extend Mnangagwa’s rule beyond 2028 has been exposed, sparking a fresh political storm.

Tshabangu reportedly told legislators aligned with him that the deal guarantees their continued presence in Parliament beyond the 2028 elections under the proposed GNU framework.

The startling revelation was made during a closed-door caucus meeting with 20 MPs and senators loyal to Tshabangu at Parliament yesterday. His remarks have intensified suspicions that he is colluding with Zanu PF to undermine the main opposition and erode its electoral gains.

In a separate meeting held on the same day in Harare, CCC faction leader Jameson Timba addressed 45 CCC MPs and senators, highlighting deepening fractures within the opposition party.

A statement issued by Tshabangu’s faction declared:

“The party leadership reiterated the importance of constructive engagement with the government and key stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to national economic recovery and long-term development, extending beyond 2028.
The caucus reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a genuine national dialogue process that will pave the way for an inclusive government of national unity to stabilise the country and reset the democratic agenda.”

The comments have triggered outrage across opposition circles, with critics viewing them as confirmation of a behind-the-scenes alliance designed to legitimise Mnangagwa’s disputed 2023 election victory and facilitate a power-sharing arrangement that sidelines the legitimate opposition leadership.

Since controversially recalling dozens of CCC legislators, Tshabangu has consistently been accused of advancing Zanu PF’s interests. His recall letters were swiftly endorsed by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda—a senior Zanu PF politburo member—despite legal and constitutional objections. This allowed Zanu PF to reclaim parliamentary ground through by-elections, effectively dismantling CCC’s legislative dominance.

Speaking to NewsDay, Timba dismissed Tshabangu’s GNU claims as “a fantasy orchestrated by his Zanu PF handlers.”

“The attempt by Sengezo Tshabangu, having learned from his handlers to rig himself into the bona fide leadership of the CCC through a caucus, collapsed like a deck of cards when only 21 legislators turned up,” Timba said.
“Our caucus was well-attended, with 45 present and eight apologies.”

Tshabangu has long been accused of acting as a Zanu PF proxy, with his public statements, apparent immunity from legal scrutiny, and behind-the-scenes meetings with state actors feeding growing suspicions. His latest push for a GNU is widely seen as part of a broader strategy to neutralise the opposition ahead of the 2028 elections.

Analysts warn that any GNU born out of backroom deals and not through a legitimate electoral mandate risks entrenching authoritarian rule under the pretense of national unity—while sidelining the democratic will of Zimbabwean citizens.

Rutendo Matinyarare Deletes Own FB White Assault Story

Matinyarare Undermines Own White Assault Claims in Twitter U-Turn

Harare – 16 May 2025

Prominent activist and Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Movement spokesperson, Rutendo Matinyarare, has sparked fresh controversy after contradicting his own widely publicised claims of being assaulted by a white motorist in South Africa.

Initially, Matinyarare posted graphic images of facial injuries, accusing an unnamed white man of attacking him with brass knuckles in a road rage incident. The dramatic photos, which circulated widely on X (formerly Twitter), were intended to frame the altercation as racially motivated abuse.

tried to explain

However, in a surprising reversal, Matinyarare admitted on 15 May that he had pressured the alleged attacker into writing an account of the incident—contrary to his earlier portrayal of being an innocent victim. “While you think he is attention seeking, I was busy pressuring the guy I fought with to put the story in writing… in case he wanted to open a malicious assault case,” Matinyarare wrote in a now-viral post.

He added: “This tactic worked and deescalated the threat… I am a strategist, guys,” suggesting the injury claim may have been exaggerated or manipulated to gain the upper hand legally.

The contradiction has sparked backlash, with critics accusing Matinyarare of fabricating or inflating the incident for attention and political capital. Responding mockingly, his online nemesis “Prophet” DrCde Madzibaba Adamski wrote: “Things that never happened,” and dismissed Matinyarare as a “moron.”

Screenshots shared by Matinyarare himself also reveal WhatsApp exchanges in which the other party expresses regret and tries to reconcile—further undermining the narrative of a racially charged attack.

Legal analysts warn that such conduct may amount to obstruction or misuse of legal process if the incident is proven to be falsified.

The debacle has left Matinyarare’s credibility in question, as observers note the irony of an anti-sanctions activist potentially exploiting racial tensions for personal vindication.

Mnangagwa Bribes War Veterans With Housing Stands As 2028 Succession Plot Thickens

By A Correspondent-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government has launched a housing initiative targeting veterans of Zimbabwe’s liberation war, in what critics view as a calculated move to appease a key but restive constituency ahead of a potential constitutional power grab.

The programme—dubbed The Presidential Stands for Veterans of the Liberation Struggle—was officially launched this week in Harare, with the government promising to deliver 50,000 serviced residential stands across the country. The project is being implemented in partnership with Prevail Group International, a private company owned by Paul Tungwarara, a politically connected businessman who also serves as a Special Presidential Investment Adviser.

Tungwarara’s firm will coordinate the acquisition, servicing, and distribution of the stands through the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works. However, the initiative has raised widespread concern over transparency and timing, as well as the political motives behind it.

A Legacy of Political Bribery

The move echoes a longstanding ZANU PF tradition of using war veterans as political shock troops—and rewarding them handsomely when their loyalty appears to waver.

In 1997, then-President Robert Mugabe made a landmark decision to award war veterans unbudgeted gratuities of Z$50,000 each and a monthly pension, after months of protests and threats from the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) under the late Chenjerai “Hitler” Hunzvi. That decision—widely viewed as a bribe—triggered a collapse in investor confidence, crashed the Zimbabwean dollar, and marked the beginning of the country’s economic freefall.

Since then, ZANU PF has continued to rely on war veterans for both symbolic legitimacy and physical enforcement of its rule. In the 2000s, war veterans were deployed to spearhead violent farm invasions and suppress opposition support in rural areas. In return, they were compensated with land, pensions, and a degree of impunity.

The latest housing initiative is seen as part of that same transactional logic: to contain mounting discontent among war veterans and secure their allegiance ahead of Mnangagwa’s widely speculated bid to extend his rule beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms.

Timing and Transparency in Question

The launch of the programme comes 45 years after the end of the liberation war, raising uncomfortable questions about why it is being rolled out now—when most surviving war veterans are elderly, ailing, and impoverished. Many critics argue that even if they are awarded residential stands, few have the means to build homes without further financial support.

There are also doubts over the actual number of surviving war veterans. While the government claims the initiative targets 50,000 beneficiaries, its own internal estimates place the number of living, eligible veterans at fewer than 30,000. This has fuelled suspicions that the scheme may benefit politically connected individuals under the guise of empowering war veterans.

Paul Tungwarara’s growing portfolio of government-linked projects has also attracted scrutiny. He has been awarded several multi-million-dollar tenders without going through open bidding processes. These include:

  • The Presidential War Veterans Borehole Scheme
  • The Presidential War Veterans Housing Scheme
  • The Presidential War Veterans Fund
  • The Presidential Solar Programme

All of these initiatives are framed under the “Presidential” brand, reinforcing the narrative that benefits for the veterans are directly tied to Mnangagwa’s leadership.

Political Motives Underlying the Programme

Observers suggest the initiative is part of a broader campaign by Mnangagwa to shore up support within the ruling party and the security establishment as speculation grows that he intends to overstay his welcome.

While Zimbabwe’s 2013 Constitution imposes a two-term limit, Mnangagwa’s allies have been floating the idea of extending his presidency until 2030 or beyond. In this context, pacifying the war veterans—who have a history of decisive intervention in Zimbabwean politics—is seen as essential.

Veterans Minister Monica Mavhunga, Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe, and Tungwarara were all present at the signing ceremony in Harare. In his remarks, Garwe said:

“Our Constitution provides for the accord of honour, respect and economic empowerment for our veterans. The Second Republic has put this into practice by appointing the Ministry of War Veterans and initiating projects aimed at improving their welfare.”

Yet civil society actors, opposition politicians, and some within the war veterans’ ranks remain unconvinced. They point out that the same government has failed to deliver on past promises to the veterans, many of whom live in poverty and have gone for years without receiving their full pensions.

Fight On, We Are With You People’s President, Ailing Diaspora Woman Tells Advocate Chamisa

By Tinashe Sambiri

HARARE – Opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa on Friday revealed he had an emotional phone conversation with an elderly Zimbabwean woman based in the United Kingdom, whose heartfelt words reignited his political resolve and hope for the country.

The former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) president said the caller, a woman in her 80s whom he referred to as “Mama Nobuhle,” reached out to him despite her frail health and shared a powerful testimony of love for Zimbabwe and deep sorrow over its current state.

“Today, I received a call that touched my heart deeply,” Chamisa shared. “It was from a senior citizen, in her 80s, who now lives in the UK. Somehow, she had to search high and low to get my number. When she said ‘hello,’ I immediately knew I had to stop and listen.”

According to Chamisa, Mama Nobuhle has both heart and kidney conditions and relies on the UK’s public healthcare system for regular treatment. However, her longing to return to Zimbabwe remains undiminished.

“She said, ‘The desire is always to return home. But how can I? There are no functioning hospitals, no proper medicine, and electricity is not even guaranteed — and for someone in my condition, it’s essential.’”

Mama Nobuhle praised the UK for its support system but criticized Zimbabwe’s deteriorating public services, blaming current and former government officials for looting and collapsing state institutions.

“‘Scarf man, KT, WC and all who are pillaging national resources have destroyed Zimbabwe,’ she told me,” Chamisa recounted. “‘KT was once under Pastor Bhebhe’s care in Gweru, and he came from a humble background. No one has ever explained how he made his fortune.’”

She went further, expressing her anger and frustration: “What they’ve done makes me so furious. I just hope one day they will face justice.”

Despite her pain, Mama Nobuhle made a passionate appeal to Chamisa to continue fighting for change. “‘Please, don’t tell me you’ll leave politics,’ she said. ‘I know it is you who must lead Zimbabwe into a better future. I believe in you.’”

The call, Chamisa said, left a lasting impression and renewed his determination.

“This encounter is the wind beneath my wings. It reminded me of why I must continue. Zimbabweans — even those who have lived abroad for years — still carry the hope of returning to a functioning Zimbabwe. This is not just political. It’s personal, it’s spiritual, and it’s national,” he said.

“To Mama Nobuhle and every Zimbabwean at home and abroad, I assure you — I am clear on what must be done. It shall be done, by God’s grace, without delay. We will be happy again. #HappySoon #HappyAgain #GodIsInIt.”

Chiwenga, Wife Steal Mnangagwa Chiredzi Show

Chiwenga and wife

By Showbiz Reporter-Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife, Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga, turned heads on Thursday as they made a grand appearance in striking traditional attire at the launch of the 2025 National Cultural Month in Chiredzi.

Dressed to impress, the couple arrived at Rusununguko Clinic ahead of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who later officially launched the event.

With growing unease within Zanu PF over Mnangagwa’s succession plan and reports of factional tension mounting, Chiwenga’s moves are being closely watched, not just for their fashion statements but for their political signals.

One thing is clear: he’s no longer just the general in uniform. He’s dressing for the presidency.

Another Chigananda Bags Juicy Govt Tender

By James Gwati-Paul Tungwarara, a close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and a key figure in the so-called 2030 agenda, has been awarded yet another lucrative government contract—this time to construct 50,000 houses for war veterans.

Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe, himself a vocal Mnangagwa loyalist and 2030 cheerleader, announced that Tungwarara’s company, Prevail Group International, would lead the project.

Tungwarara also serves as a Special Presidential Investment Adviser, cementing his growing influence within the inner circle of Mnangagwa’s patronage network.

Prevail Group will be responsible for identifying and servicing 50,000 housing stands nationwide, then allocating them to war veterans through the Ministry of Local Government.

Yet, critics are crying foul, pointing to the continued hand-picking of companies for billion-dollar state tenders without public bidding—especially under Mnangagwa’s ever-expanding “Presidential” branding schemes.

Tungwarara is no stranger to controversy.

He has quietly amassed contracts under a litany of initiatives: the Presidential War Veterans Borehole Scheme, the Presidential Solar Programme, and now the Presidential War Veterans Housing Scheme, raising questions about cronyism, profiteering, and the true purpose of these projects.

Even more troubling is the math.

According to the government’s own statistics, fewer than 30,000 liberation war veterans are still alive. So why commission 50,000 houses?

Observers warn the discrepancy suggests the housing scheme could be a smoke screen for looting and vote-buying, rather than genuine empowerment of the ageing and impoverished veterans.

Many of the real freedom fighters, now old and destitute, lack the means to build homes even if given the stands.

The project’s timing—45 years after the liberation struggle—only fuels suspicions of political opportunism.

With calls growing louder from disillusioned war veterans for Mnangagwa to step down, this latest gesture appears calculated to pacify dissent and tighten his grip on power.

Mnangagwa is preparing to override the constitutional two-term limit expiring in 2028 and extend his rule to at least 2030, if not beyond.

The launch of the housing project in Harare was attended by Garwe, Veterans Affairs Minister Monica Mavhunga, and a visibly beaming Tungwarara—while real war heroes remain in rural poverty, forgotten and used as political props.

In a chilling echo of the past, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga recently warned against the rise of a new elite class of looters masquerading as patriots.

He called them “Zvigananda”—a scathing reference to those who plunder state resources under the guise of serving the liberation cause.

“Mark my words,” one senior war veteran told this reporter, “these so-called investors and their political godfathers will rot in jail when this system collapses. They’re looting in broad daylight, but justice always catches up—especially when the people they betray are armed with history and truth.”

Government Imposes Loyalist on Wonondo Clan

By A Correspondent

A storm is brewing in Matabeleland North following the installation of Misheck Magalela Hlabangana as Chief Wonondo—a move villagers and clan elders say was orchestrated by government to install a loyalist and suppress genuine traditional leadership.

While state media portrayed Wednesday’s ceremony as a “restoration of dignity,” many within the Wonondo clan see it as a betrayal of their ancestral rights and an imposition of a political puppet on the throne.

“This has nothing to do with heritage,” said a disgruntled elder from the clan who requested anonymity. “We were never consulted.

This so-called ‘unanimous agreement’ is fiction. Misheck was handpicked by people in suits, not by the family or the spirits of our ancestors.”

The ceremony, attended by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Richard Moyo, was presented as a fulfillment of the Second Republic’s promise to restore abolished chieftaincies.

However, critics argue the installation is part of a wider strategy by ZANU-PF to plant politically obedient figures in traditional leadership structures ahead of the 2028 elections.

“This government wants chiefs who sing praises, not ones who speak truth,” said a member of the local residents’ association. “They are replacing organic community leaders with government stooges. It’s colonization by another name.”

The Wonondo chieftaincy, which dates back to King Lobengula’s era, was abolished in 1944 after Chief Wonondo resisted forced eviction by the Rhodesian government. While many welcomed the idea of restoring the chieftaincy, they insist that the process must be community-led—not dictated by politicians.

“The rightful heir is not Magalela. Everyone here knows it,” said a 72-year-old clan leader.

“This is about loyalty to the ruling party, not lineage. They are desecrating our heritage.”

Minister Moyo defended the installation, stating: “This restoration reflects government’s commitment to restoring all legitimate, previously abolished chieftainships.” Yet community members argue the government’s interpretation of “legitimacy” conveniently ignores customary procedures and spiritual consultation.

As Chief Hlabangana assumes authority over Wards 5, 6, 19, and 21—covering nearly 11,000 residents—distrust and anger simmer beneath the surface.

“We won’t recognize him,” said a group of villagers gathered near the royal kraal. “He may have the government’s backing, but he doesn’t have the people’s blessing.”

The controversy raises serious questions about the politicization of traditional leadership in Zimbabwe and highlights the growing tension between state authority and community sovereignty in the country’s rural areas.

Ramaphosa Is A Coward, Declares Malema…

By A Correspondent

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has sharply condemned the recent joint press briefing held by President Cyril Ramaphosa and former U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing both leaders of vilifying EFF Commander in Chief Julius Malema and undermining South Africa’s constitutional principles. The fiery statement follows a tense exchange in Washington, where Trump confronted Ramaphosa with discredited claims of a so-called “white genocide” and aired controversial footage featuring Malema.

According to the EFF, what was framed as a diplomatic engagement quickly devolved into a personal attack on Malema and the party’s agenda for land reform and economic justice. The EFF criticized Ramaphosa for aligning himself with white business elites and accused him of denouncing rulings from South Africa’s highest courts, which previously upheld the historical and cultural significance of the struggle-era chant “Kill the Boer.”

In a strongly worded statement, the EFF characterized the meeting as “an interaction dominated by white privileged men” and a clear sign of collusion between the ANC, white capital, and Trump’s political machine. The party also voiced serious concern over what it calls an imperialist attempt to reverse progressive laws such as land expropriation without compensation.

See statement below:

EFF
ECONOMIC FREEDOM FIGHTERS
EFF STATEMENT ON THE JOINT PRESS BRIEFING BY CYRIL RAMAPHOSA AND DONALD TRUMP REGARDING CONDITIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA AND CIC JULIUS MALEMA
Wednesday, 21 May 2025

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has taken note of the press briefing held jointly by the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa and the President of the United States of America (USA) Donald Trump. The meeting, which came under the pretext of discussing diplomatic, trade and economic relations, ended up being a discussion about the President and Commander in Chief of the EFF Julius Malema and his correct and principled position regarding the return of the land to African people, and the return of the means of production into the hands of the African majority.

In what comes as no surprise, Cyril Ramaphosa and his delegation which was constituted by the likes of Stellenbosch racist billionaire Johann Rupert, Donald Trump’s golfing buddy Ernie Els, and Minister of Agriculture and leader of the racist Democratic Alliance (DA) John Steenhuisen, was an interaction dominated by white privileged men, who have amassed wealth at the expense of African people, who spent a majority of the time expressing their hatred of the EFF and of its leader Julius Malema.

Trump proceeded to play numerous clips of the President of the EFF wherein our leader spoke correctly about the unequal distribution of land in South Africa and sang the chant “Kill The Boer, Kill The Farmer”, which is a song that expresses the desire to destroy the system of white minority control over the resources of South Africa. This liberation chant was considered as part of African heritage by the Equality Court, which also said the song could not be interpreted literally. The Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court of South Africa then ratified this decision.

In an act of cowardice, Cyril Ramaphosa blatantly denounced the rulings of the courts of the country he is a President of, and this was then followed by insults from John Steenhuisen who then confirmed that they reached a pact with the African National Congress (ANC) to keep the EFF out of power. This pact was a clear collusion to prevent genuine transformation in South Africa. Additionally, this meeting between Ramaphosa and Trump has led to the inadvertent confirmation of the consolidation of the 2024 alliance between white minority capital and the neoliberal and counter-revolutionary ANC.

Johann Rupert then followed, identifying the CIC Julius Malema as his enemy for over 10 years, and then citing their relationship since Julius Malema’s days in the once vibrant ANC Youth League. The true intentions of the meeting were then revealed as Rupert went on to lobby for the allowing of Elon Musk’s Starlink to operate in South Africa.

The dominance of white male voices in the entire interaction proves and vindicates the EFF that the delegation was one that sought to make assurances to Trump that the transformation agenda of South Africa is one that can be compromised on upon negotiation. All of the utterances by Ramaphosa’s delegation point to a devious plot to rekindle relations with a maniacal Trump administration by sacrificing our sovereignty at the altar of convenience.

The South African delegation was at pains to explain how they have no interest in redressing the unequal patterns of land ownership in South Africa using what is now constitutionally provisioned as nil compensation through the Expropriation Act. The entire delegation failed dismally at countering the false narrative of a white genocide in South Africa, by contrasting the narrative through evidence-based statistics and data around crime in our country that affects all South Africans.

South Africa has been embarrassed by a delegation that was contradicting itself, that abandoned judicial decisions, and at times was simply grovelling and lying.

The EFF is proud that its legislative and political agenda, led by the President and Commander in Chief Julius Malema, has shaken the corridors of imperialism in Washington. Our Commander in Chief can be considered in the lines of great revolutionaries, as Donald Trump in his illiterate rants has called for his arrest for daring to call for land expropriation without compensation. As a result, the EFF is concerned by this call that something must be done to stop the EFF President from chanting a liberation heritage song.

Therefore, the EFF will continue to keenly follow the developments in Washington and reiterates that we will oppose any compromising of our laws to allow for Starlink to operate in South Africa, and we will oppose any reversal of transformative legislation including that which will allow for expropriation of land.

We will defend our constitutional democracy and never bow and succumb to imperialism. All those opposed to the dominance of the few by the many must never fear and must chant loudly against the system of oppression.

Mnangagwa Hoodwinks War Veterans With Residential Stands

By A Correspondent

HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration is once again under fire for alleged duplicity, as top government officials and politically connected elites are poised to hijack a lucrative housing development project meant to benefit war veterans.

This follows the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding involving the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, and a little-known private entity, Prevail Group of Companies.

The agreement, marketed as the “Presidential Stands for Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Programme,” promises residential stands to at least 50,000 war veterans—but critics say the deal reeks of cronyism and deception.

Behind the patriotic rhetoric lies a well-worn pattern: Mnangagwa’s government pledges empowerment for liberation war fighters, only for politically connected “fatcats” to swoop in and claim the spoils.

“This is yet another case of war veterans being used as campaign bait,” said a senior official from a veterans’ association who spoke on condition of anonymity. “These tenders are never transparent. They’re handed out to companies owned by friends of the powerful, while actual war veterans continue to live in poverty.”

Prevail Group of Companies, the beneficiary of the development contract, has raised eyebrows for its sudden involvement in such a high-stakes national project. No public tender process was announced, and little is known about the company’s track record. This has fueled suspicions that the project is more about enriching elites than honoring veterans.

President Mnangagwa has long touted his regime’s commitment to improving the lives of liberation fighters. “The Second Republic is concerned about the welfare of veterans,” he claimed through Minister Monica Mavhunga. However, past initiatives, including the so-called Presidential War Veterans Borehole Programme and the Housing Scheme, have failed to reach many intended recipients—often marred by corruption, lack of follow-through, and political favoritism.

“Section 23 of the Constitution mandates support for war veterans,” said Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe. “This agreement honors that.” But legal experts argue that meaningful constitutional support cannot exist without transparency, accountability, and fair access to opportunities.

Dr. Paul Tungwarara, chairperson of Prevail Group, said, “We are happy to be part of this initiative,” but failed to provide details on how the company was selected or how it intends to execute the project.

As construction looms, disillusionment among war veterans grows. Many fear that, like previous schemes, this will be a smokescreen for looting.

“This is classic Mnangagwa,” said a retired freedom fighter in Highfield. “Make a loud announcement, shake hands for the cameras, then disappear while your friends eat. We fought for land, not lies.”

In the face of growing economic hardship and broken promises, war veterans—once a core pillar of ZANU-PF’s support base—are increasingly questioning the sincerity of a government that continues to speak their language while betraying their cause.

Malema calls for justice

United States of America is threatened by EFF, President Julias Malema’s call for justice as this was revealed by the recent visit to USA by the President of South Africa and the main agenda was Malema, though not sure about the closed doors meeting with Donald Trump. The whole of the Oval Office had to switch off lights in DC to watch Malema’s old video that is a clear sign that Trump is afraid of Malema Movement.

Callous Woman Poisons Own Daughter( 7 Months ) With Pesticide

By A Correspondent

GWERU – A 21-year-old woman, Felistas Mpofu, has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the Gweru Circuit High Court for the cold-blooded poisoning of her seven-month-old daughter with a pesticide.

According to a statement released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Mpofu committed the offence in 2022 when she was 19 years old. She had travelled from Mberengwa to Mandava, carrying her baby girl.

In a shocking revelation, Mpofu admitted to mixing pesticide into milk and feeding it to her infant daughter. The baby reportedly began crying uncontrollably, prompting concerned individuals to take her to Zvishavane General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, the child tragically passed away.

A post-mortem later confirmed that the baby had ingested a toxic substance, leading to her death. The case took a decisive turn when a Good Samaritan, who had temporarily taken Mpofu in, found a baby feeding bottle emitting a strong chemical odour among her belongings. This discovery led to further investigations and ultimately, Mpofu’s arrest and prosecution.

In court, Mpofu expressed regret but admitted to the crime, saying she felt overwhelmed by the responsibility of motherhood. “I killed my child because I felt I could not take care of her properly,” she told the court.

The judge, in delivering the sentence, noted the gravity of the offence but also considered Mpofu’s age and circumstances at the time of the crime. However, he emphasized the sanctity of human life and the need for deterrence.

Mpofu will serve seven years in prison for the crime that has shocked the nation and reignited conversations around mental health, poverty, and support systems for young mothers.

Top CIO Boss Dies In Horror Crash

By A Correspondent- A top Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) officer and a senior prison official were killed in a horrific road accident in Masvingo on Tuesday evening, rekindling concerns about the alarming number of unexplained deaths involving senior security service personnel since Zimbabwe’s 2017 military coup.

Gift Nyama, the CIO head for Gutu District, and Principal Correctional Officer Masimba Blessing Mandimutsira of Mutimurefu Prison died in a three-vehicle pile-up near the Mutimurefu Prison Bus Stop along the Masvingo–Mutare highway.

Nyama, who had just attended a farewell party reportedly held at 4/2 Infantry Brigade at Mpandawana Growth Point in Gutu, is said to have been driving from the event when tragedy struck. According to early reports, Nyama’s vehicle rammed into a stationary tractor abandoned in the middle of the road without lights or reflectors. While prison officers, including Mandimutsira, rushed to the scene to assist, a second vehicle—a Ford Ranger driven by Chief Superintendent Simangaliso Dube, Officer Commanding Masvingo Central District—approached at speed. In an attempt to avoid the pile-up, Dube reportedly veered off the road and struck Mandimutsira.

Nyama is said to have died instantly after breaking his neck, while Mandimutsira succumbed to his injuries at Masvingo Provincial Hospital.

Sources told The Mirror that the farewell party had been attended by high-profile figures, including Walter Manjonjo, a ZANU PF provincial youth executive member for Ward 33 in Gutu, indicating the deep political and military connections of those involved.

The crash occurred at a known black spot that has claimed the lives of two other officers in the past year. The Zimbabwe Republic Police provincial spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, was unavailable for comment, but Superintendent Francis Makonese, Officer-in-Charge of Prisons in Masvingo, confirmed the accident in a statement.

A Trail of Suspicious Deaths Since 2017

The deaths of Nyama and Mandimutsira add to a growing list of fatal incidents involving senior security personnel in the aftermath of the 2017 military coup that ousted long-time leader Robert Mugabe and brought President Emmerson Mnangagwa to power.

Since the coup, several high-ranking figures within the military, intelligence, and police sectors—many of whom were either aligned with or seen as potential threats to shifting power dynamics—have died under unclear or suspicious circumstances. Among them:

  • Major General Trust Mugoba, former commander of the African Union standby force and a key figure in military diplomacy, died suddenly in 2019 after being recalled from Addis Ababa. His death remains shrouded in mystery.
  • Air Force of Zimbabwe Commander, Air Marshal Perrance Shiri, who became Minister of Agriculture post-coup, died in 2020 from what the government claimed was COVID-19, though insiders speculated foul play amid internal ZANU PF factional battles.
  • Central Intelligence Organisation Director for Internal Affairs, Mernard Muzariri, and several other CIO operatives have also died in unexplained car accidents or illnesses in recent years.
  • Commander of Presidential Guard, Brigadier General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe, was hastily redeployed abroad following the 2018 post-election shootings, widely viewed as part of a purge or relocation strategy for security heavyweights.

These deaths—often reported as accidents, sudden illnesses, or COVID-related—have sparked persistent speculation of a silent purge within the state security infrastructure, as rival factions continue to jostle for control behind the scenes of a politically fragile regime.

In this context, the death of Gift Nyama—a high-ranking CIO officer with access to sensitive national security operations—may raise more questions than answers.

A Nation on Edge

The pattern of fatalities among security sector elites feeds into broader concerns about instability, secrecy, and unresolved tensions within Zimbabwe’s post-coup establishment. With elections now concluded and internal ZANU PF power battles heating up ahead of 2028, observers warn that such deaths may not be mere coincidence.

“Zimbabwe’s security sector remains deeply factionalised and heavily politicised. Every death of a senior official must be scrutinised, especially when it involves those with knowledge of past or ongoing power struggles,” a former intelligence officer told The Mirror on condition of anonymity.

As the country continues to grapple with economic hardship, contested legitimacy, and deepening repression, the shadow of the 2017 coup looms large—its consequences still unfolding, one suspicious death at a time.

Touching Tribute To Joseph Madhimba

By Tichaona Sibanda- I became a journalist because of Joseph Madhimba.

So when I received the news today that the iconic journalist—who defined the role of anchorman for an entire generation of Zimbabwean television viewers—had passed away, I was devastated.

I knew he had been unwell since last year. After both of us left the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) more than two decades ago, we remained in close contact. We would speak on the phone weekly, for hours, discussing everything from politics and current affairs to the state of our beloved Zimbabwe. He was an encyclopaedia of knowledge—always the person I turned to for guidance and wise counsel.

Around September last year, I noticed I hadn’t heard from him in several days. I called, but there was no answer. I sent messages, but he didn’t respond. My concern grew. I reached out to an old friend, Tabby Moyo, a journalist based in Windhoek, Namibia, and asked him to check on Joseph.

Before Tabby could get back to me, I contacted one of Mukoma Joe’s longtime friends from their St Ignatius College days—John Gambanga, a distinguished journalist based in Harare. The two had been friends for over 50 years, and it turned out that John was already aware: Joseph had suffered a massive stroke and had been hospitalised.

Ironically, just last month, one of Zimbabwe’s finest news anchors, Wayne Musabayana, called me after I’d informed her that her former co-presenter was unwell. Both of us were hopeful that he would recover. His passing today is a personal blow—he was the reason I decided to pursue journalism straight after high school.

Growing up in Mkoba, Gweru—Joseph was also from Gweru—he became a fixture in our household. Every evening at 8 p.m., we would tune in to the ZBC main news bulletin. His was the first voice I associated with the news. He inspired me, and everyone I grew up with will tell you: all I ever wanted to be was a journalist. It was because of him—this man who has now sadly left us.

Joseph Madhimba stood for professionalism, integrity, and dignity in journalism. He was a national treasure, known for his rich, distinct baritone voice that became a hallmark of Zimbabwean radio and television.

I remember once my mother shouting from the kitchen: “Turn down that radio! Can’t you hear Madhimba’s booming voice rattling the windows?” That same commanding voice echoed through our long phone calls—but now, heartbreakingly, it is silent.

I hold fond memories of our time working together in the News and Current Affairs Department at Pockets Hill. He was meticulous about language and pronunciation. If you got it wrong, he would patiently sit you down and explain the correct way. His command of the Queen’s English left many in awe—including me. He would often jokingly say, “Babamunini, I didn’t go to school for nothing.”

Beyond that, Joseph was a gifted linguist. He spoke fluent French, having studied journalism in France before Zimbabwe’s Independence in 1980.

Go well, Mukoma Joe.

My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. He touched many lives, mine included.

May his soul rest in peace.

Tottenham Stun Red Devils To Clinch First Silverware Since 2008

Sports Correspondent

Tottenham Hotspur ended a 17-year wait for a major trophy by edging Manchester United 1-0 in a gritty UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday night, thanks to Brennan Johnson’s scrappy first-half goal.

The victory, Spurs’ first piece of silverware since winning the League Cup in 2008 and their first European trophy since 1984, also secured them a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. The win marked their fourth over Manchester United this season.

The decisive moment came in the 42nd minute. Pape Matar Sarr delivered a dangerous cross into the box, where United’s defense failed to react. Goalkeeper André Onana stayed glued to his line as Johnson and United defender Luke Shaw charged in. The ball appeared to deflect off both players before finding the back of the net, just out of Onana’s reach.

The match itself was a tense, scrappy affair — perhaps unsurprising given both teams’ underwhelming domestic campaigns. United currently sit 16th in the Premier League, with Spurs just one place above in 17th.

United had chances to draw level. Rasmus Højlund rose well for a header in the second half, only to see Micky van de Ven produce a superb clearance off the line. In the dying moments, Luke Shaw’s header nearly rescued United, but Guglielmo Vicario pulled off a stunning save to preserve the lead.

After the match, a jubilant Brennan Johnson expressed the team’s relief and pride.

“This season hasn’t been good at all but I swear not one of us players right now care about that. This is what it’s all about, this club hasn’t won a trophy for 17 years,” Johnson told TNT Sports.

“Honestly, this is what it means. It means so much. All the fans get battered, we get battered, for not winning a trophy, for not winning anything. But we had to get the first one in a while today. I’m so happy.”

For Spurs and their supporters, the long-awaited moment is finally here — and it came at the expense of one of their fiercest rivals.

Croco Motors Boss Implicated In Serious Fraud

By Crime and Courts Reporter– Croco Motors owner Moses Tonderai Chingwena and his sons have been implicated in a serious fraud case involving the alleged unlawful takeover of Karoi Properties, a company reportedly owned by the late businessman Brian James Rhodes.

The allegations were made by Elizabeth Parerenyatwa, a Harare woman who claims to be the executor of Rhodes’ estate. Parerenyatwa made the disclosure while testifying in a separate case in which she accuses two Harare men of providing false information to a public official.

She told the court that Chingwena and his sons unlawfully imposed themselves as directors of Karoi Properties and are currently benefiting from the late Rhodes’ estate without any legal authority.

“Chingwena and his sons are criminals who should be arrested for their actions,” Parerenyatwa told the court during her testimony.

The matter has been postponed to May 27, when Parerenyatwa is expected to be cross-examined by the defence.

Division One Club Calls For Match Postponement Due To Financial Meltdown

By Sports Correspondent

Mvuma – Zimbabwe Division One outfit Dinson Mvuma FC has appealed to league authorities to postpone its upcoming fixture against Midlands State University (MSU) FC, citing a severe financial crisis that has crippled the club’s operations.

In a formal letter dated May 19, 2025, addressed to football authorities, club Secretary General Mr. D. Virima laid bare the challenges facing the team, blaming the turmoil on the failure by their main sponsor, Dinson Iron and Steel Company, to release funds since the start of the season.

“Our club Dinson Mvuma FC has since the season started been going through a difficult financial strain due to the fact that our sponsor Dinson Iron Steel Company has not availed funds to run the team from the first game to date,” wrote Virima.

The club, which hails from Mushenjere Village in Manhize, requested the postponement of its scheduled fixture against MSU FC on Saturday, May 24, 2025, and potentially its next home game as well.

“This will allow us time to engage the company as well as find other sources to run the team,” Virima stated, revealing that the team has failed to adequately pay match officials for the past two home games.

The situation has now reached a tipping point, with players deserting camp due to the lack of support and payment.

“Consequently our players have all left camp and we are unable to raise a team for this weekend’s fixture,” he confirmed.

The club acknowledged the disruption such a request may cause but emphasized that the decision was necessary to preserve the team’s future in the league.

“We are fully aware of the huge inconveniences our request will cause but we think this will allow us time to restrategise and be able to run the team through the season,” said Virima.

Dinson Mvuma FC, nicknamed The Steel Boys, was established in 2023 and had entered the 2025 season with high hopes. However, the unexpected financial blackout has thrown their campaign into jeopardy.

As the club awaits a response from league administrators, it remains unclear whether the fixture against MSU FC will go ahead as scheduled. Football fans in the region now watch with concern as one of the area’s promising teams fights for survival.

‘If Last Night Was An Election, Julius Malema Would be the New US President’

Did Trump win his argument on Genocide ?: South Africa vs Ukraine

By Dorrothy Moyo | Analysis | A pair of viral images recently shared by the far-right “End Wokeness” account show U.S. President Donald Trump in the White House, speaking sternly to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in one photo and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in another—this time brandishing a printout referencing alleged attacks on white farmers in South Africa.

The images have reignited an international debate over Trump’s apparent double standard on mass violence and human rights: dismissive of Russia’s documented atrocities in Ukraine, yet vocally alarmist over what far-right platforms call “white genocide” in South Africa—a claim not supported by credible data.

Trump’s Silence on Russian Aggression

While Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has been universally condemned by Western leaders, Trump has consistently refused to hold Vladimir Putin accountable. Speaking at a CNN town hall in May 2023, Trump said:

………..

Circulating pictures

“I want everybody to stop dying. Russians and Ukrainians, I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that war settled in one day, 24 hours.”
— CNN Town Hall, 10 May 2023

He refused to say whether he wanted Ukraine to win the war and avoided directly criticizing Putin. Trump’s evasiveness and past praise for Putin—calling him “very smart” at the outset of the invasion—have drawn criticism from NATO allies and American foreign policy experts alike. Despite mounting evidence from international investigators of war crimes, mass graves, and civilian bombings, Trump has never acknowledged Russian aggression as genocide.

Trump Amplified “White Genocide” Conspiracy

Contrast this with Trump’s 2018 tweet:

“I have asked Secretary of State @SecPompeo to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large-scale killing of farmers.”
— Donald Trump, 22 August 2018

The tweet was inspired by a Tucker Carlson segment promoting the false claim of a racial genocide against white farmers. Multiple investigations, including one by BBC Africa Check, concluded that:
• Farm murders in South Africa affect both black and white farmers.
• There is no state-led or systematic campaign of extermination.
• The homicide rate in farming communities is part of broader violent crime trends.

Even South Africa’s government condemned Trump’s tweet as based on “false information.”

Julius Malema: A Surprising Voice of Moral Consistency?

While Julius Malema is often described as a populist and firebrand, particularly over his rhetoric on land expropriation and race, he has publicly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine—setting him apart from Trump’s equivocation.

“Russia is wrong for entering Ukraine militarily, but the US is equally wrong for provoking Russia. We need peace and not war.”
— Julius Malema, EFF media briefing, 10 March 2022

“We call for the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. The sovereignty of Ukraine must be respected.”
— EFF Statement, 3 March 2022

Malema went further to call for a return to negotiations and respect for the territorial integrity of all nations, a stance he reiterated in multiple public addresses. While the EFF criticized NATO’s expansion as a trigger for tension, they did not excuse the invasion itself.

This stands in stark contrast to Trump, who has repeatedly refused to assign blame to Russia or even acknowledge Ukraine’s suffering in clear terms.

Who Is the Better Moral Example?

The comparison may be uncomfortable for many in the West: a South African opposition leader often vilified for radical speech showing more moral clarity on a major war crime than a sitting U.S. president.

While Malema’s rhetoric is not without controversy, his condemnation of Russia’s aggression is grounded in international law and human rights principles. Trump, on the other hand, has used his platform to amplify disinformation about South Africa while remaining silent on verified atrocities in Ukraine.

Political Expediency Over Principle

Trump has proven to be no moral beacon. His response to international crises is shaped not by justice or ethics but by what resonates with his political base. Malema, though deeply polarizing, has at least maintained consistency in condemning global violence—whether from NATO or Russia.

Verdict: No, Trump has not communicated wisely or ethically. His selective outrage undermines his credibility, and ironically, even Julius Malema—a man Trump supporters might dismiss—has stood on higher moral ground when it comes to global justice.

In the end what could have worked to stop Malema’s dangerous inflammatory politics, has sadly gone sour due to Trump’s failures at communication. It might take a while for someone to come up and heal the credibility wounds inflicted. The embarrassment was huge – if last night was an election, Malema would be the new US president. – ZimEye

Trump Confronts Ramaphosa Over Persecution Of White Farmers

By A Correspondent

In a tense and unexpected exchange at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump confronted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa with controversial accusations that white farmers in South Africa are being systematically targeted, attacked, and killed.

The meeting, initially intended to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss trade, was quickly derailed when Trump launched into a pointed interrogation regarding alleged violence against white South African farmers—a claim that has been widely debunked by human rights organizations and South African law enforcement.

During a live press conference, Trump cued a video montage depicting a field of white crosses, which he claimed represented the graves of murdered white farmers

. The footage included a snippet of opposition leader Julius Malema chanting “Shoot the Boer,” a phrase that has stirred significant controversy in South Africa.

“This is what’s happening in your country,” Trump said, gesturing toward the screen. “They take their land, they kill the white farmers, and nobody is held accountable. What are you doing about this?”

Visibly taken aback, Ramaphosa pushed back forcefully. “That’s simply not true,” he replied. “If we were experiencing genocide, the white South Africans in my delegation—people like Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, and Johann Rupert—wouldn’t be here today.”

Trump appeared unconvinced, interjecting, “But these people, they get their land taken, and then they’re killed. The world needs to hear this.”

Ramaphosa reiterated that South Africa’s government does not support violence or racially targeted attacks. “We are a constitutional democracy,” he stated. “What you saw in that video—those comments are from an opposition leader, not government policy.
We don’t govern through hate.”

The video shown by Trump, according to analysts, was sourced from a 2020 protest in KwaZulu-Natal following the murder of a farming couple. The crosses were a symbolic installation, not actual grave markers. Trump admitted he didn’t know the specific origins of the video, but insisted it demonstrated a “pattern.”

The meeting followed the controversial U.S. decision to grant asylum to 59 white South Africans, citing fears of racial persecution. Ramaphosa previously dismissed the asylum-seekers as “cowards” fleeing a non-existent threat.

EFF leader Julius Malema, whose rhetoric featured prominently in Trump’s presentation, reacted mockingly on social media: “A group of old men met in Washington to gossip about me,” he posted. He further clarified that land expropriation without compensation remains a policy objective, but that it does not translate to physical harm against any racial group.

Despite Ramaphosa’s effort to charm the former U.S. president with golf-themed diplomacy—including a massive book showcasing South African golf courses and the presence of two national sports icons—the tone of the meeting shifted sharply after the video was played and Trump distributed printed articles of alleged attacks on white farmers.

“We’re not here to sweep things under the rug,” Trump concluded. “This issue matters, and I want answers.”

Ramaphosa maintained his position: “We welcome scrutiny, but it must be grounded in truth, not myth. South Africa belongs to all who live in it—black and white.”

The contentious exchange has raised questions about the influence of fringe narratives on U.S. foreign policy and whether refugee designations are being politicized. For now, it remains unclear whether the diplomatic fallout will impact trade negotiations, especially with looming tariffs on South African exports set to take effect later this year.

Julius Malema Declares Ramaphosa-Trump Media Briefing Is A “Cowardly Betrayal” of South African Sovereignty

By A Correspondent

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has sharply condemned the recent joint press briefing held by President Cyril Ramaphosa and U.S.

Chivayo Ruins Barwe Reputation With Dirty Cash, Car

By A Correspondent

Zanu PF-linked businessman and controversial tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo has sparked outrage and debate after gifting veteran Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) journalist Reuben Barwe a brand new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR LX 300 Series — along with US$100,000 in cash “pocket money.”

While some have viewed the gesture as a grand tribute to Barwe’s decades of loyal service, others see it as a scandalous blow to journalistic integrity, particularly for a public broadcaster that is supposed to be impartial.

Social media erupted soon after the announcement, with critics questioning Barwe’s ethics. One notable reaction came from Farai Motsi via WhatsApp, who did not mince his words: “Chivayo atowetera mukurumbira waReuben Barwe (Chivayo has urinated on Barwe’s reputation). Kutora mota yechiganda iwe uri mutori wenhau hazviko, Barwe you have soiled your image.”

Motsi’s comments reflect growing discomfort among media observers and members of the public over what is seen as an increasingly blurred line between journalism and political patronage in Zimbabwe. Accepting such a lavish personal gift from a politically exposed businessman, they argue, compromises Barwe’s credibility as a journalist who should be objective and independent.

Chivayo, however, was effusive in his praise of Barwe, detailing his admiration in a lengthy and emotionally charged Facebook post:

“Rrrrrrrrrueben Barweeeee , ZBC News… Harare!”…For over three decades, this has been a SIGNATURE sign-off by one of the most DECORATED veteran journalist and DISTINGUISHED news reporter that Zimbabwe has ever had,” Chivayo wrote.

He went on to recall watching Barwe as a child in 1987 on a black and white television, admiring his charisma and consistency in delivering the main evening news. He praised Barwe for his patriotism and unwavering loyalty to the national cause:

“You have kept the Nation INFORMED and INSPIRED for a better tomorrow… From the days of the late President Mugabe to the Second Republic under President E.D. Mnangagwa, you have remained LOYAL, diligent and DEDICATED to your craft.”

In what he termed a token of appreciation, Chivayo instructed Barwe to collect the luxury vehicle from Farai at Faramatsi Motors and pick up the US$100,000 from his lawyer, Mr. Sikhumbuzo Mpofu, of Munangati & Associates.

“SO THERE YOU HAVE IT…Keep raising ZIMBABWE’S flag high and keep reminding the WORLD through your gift that there is no better Zimbabwe than what we have, what we call HOME,” Chivayo concluded.

But many Zimbabweans are not celebrating. Critics argue that such a gift undermines the principles of journalistic neutrality and raises questions about ZBC’s editorial independence. For a public broadcaster funded by taxpayers, Barwe’s acceptance of Chivayo’s gift could be interpreted as aligning with political and business elites, rather than maintaining objectivity in the public interest.

As the story continues to spark debate, one thing is clear — Barwe’s legacy, once considered untouchable, is now being hotly contested.

Geza Revolution: Nation Holds Breath as Military Receives Petition Calling For Mnangagwa’s Retirement

By A Correspondent

A petition authored by a group of concerned citizens, calling for the immediate retirement of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was successfully delivered to the military on Wednesday, ZimEye can exclusively reveal.

The group acts in solidarity with war veteran Blessed Geza, who has publicly called for President Mnangagwa to step down due to alleged incapacitation.

Below is the petition:

To: The Commander, Zimbabwe Defence Forces
Cc: All Service Chiefs, Generals, and Senior Officers
From: The Citizens of Zimbabwe
Date: 20 May 2025

Subject: Request for Intervention Regarding State Capture and Presidential Incapacity

Dear Commander,

We, the citizens of Zimbabwe, have delegated Blessed Geza to represent our collective voice and highlight the urgent need for your intervention in the face of widespread state capture and corruption allegedly orchestrated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his associates.

Despite substantial evidence, there has been a lack of meaningful investigation or accountability, fostering a culture of impunity. According to Section 212 of our Constitution, the Defence Forces are mandated to preserve peace, protect territorial integrity, uphold the rule of law, and safeguard democratic institutions.

We bring to your attention the following critical concerns:

Allegations of the President’s involvement in corrupt activities, resulting in the looting of state resources.

Failure to address basic socio-economic issues, leading to widespread public suffering.

Reports of the President’s deteriorating health, particularly vascular dementia, which may impair his ability to govern.

Attempts to extend the presidential term to 2030 and establish a political dynasty.

Capture of key democratic institutions, including ZACC, the judiciary, and the Human Rights Commission.

We respectfully urge you, as custodians of national integrity, to act before the situation deteriorates further. We request your intervention to uphold the Constitution, restore the rule of law, ensure accountability, and protect our democratic framework.

We trust in the Zimbabwe National Army’s dedication to defending our nation’s interests and constitutional values. We therefore call upon you to take decisive and timely action in response to these urgent matters.

Please note: This letter serves as a cover note. A detailed report is attached.

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,
The Citizens of Zimbabwe

Citizens Take On ZANU PF in Gutu East By-election

By A Correspondent

A political showdown is set to unfold in Zimbabwe’s Gutu East Constituency as citizens aligned with opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa gear up to challenge the ruling ZANU PF in the upcoming by-election slated for June 14.

The by-election, triggered by a vacancy in the parliamentary seat, has attracted three contenders: Zvarevashe Masvingise of ZANU PF, Zivanai Nzvenga of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA), and independent candidate Gift Gonese.

Opposition supporters say the by-election presents an opportunity to send a strong message to the ruling party, citing years of corruption and misgovernance.

In a statement issued Wednesday, former Masvingo Central MP Jeffryson Chitando said the people of Gutu East were ready to reject ZANU PF at the ballot box:

“We will send a clear message to Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa and ZANU PF. People are tired of corruption and looting.”

Independent candidate Gift Gonese, who has gained support from citizens in the constituency, also expressed confidence about the contest:

“Yes, I am ready for the by-election, and I know citizens are behind me.”

With the campaign heating up and public discontent growing, the June 14 by-election is shaping up to be a crucial test of political will and grassroots sentiment in Masvingo Province.

Observers note that voter turnout and the transparency of the electoral process will be pivotal in determining the outcome—and could point to broader shifts in Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

Shock As Two Security Officers Die In Mutimurefu Highway Tragedy

By A Correspondent

Masvingo – A dark cloud hangs over the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) following a harrowing incident that claimed the lives of two senior security officers in a double tragedy near Mutimurefu Prison on May 21, 2025.

According to officials at Mutimurefu Prison, Principal Correctional Officer Masimba Mandimutsira was fatally struck by a Ford Ranger vehicle driven by Masvingo District Police Chief Superintendent Simangaliso Dube while attempting to rescue Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) Officer-in-Charge for Gutu District, Gift Nyama, who had moments earlier been involved in a separate traffic accident.

An officer at Mutimurefu Prison confirmed the incident and expressed sorrow at the tragic loss.

“Officer Mandimutsira was a selfless and committed member of our service. He did not hesitate to respond to the scene in a bid to save lives, and sadly, he paid the ultimate price,” the officer said.

The incident occurred at around 6:00 PM along the Mutare–Masvingo Highway, near the 22-kilometre peg, approximately 500 metres from the Mutimurefu Prison Farm bus stop—a stretch now regarded as a dangerous black spot, with multiple fatal accidents reported this year.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that Officer Nyama had been travelling from Gutu to Masvingo following a farewell function with a colleague, Johannes Tafirenyika, when his vehicle collided with a stationary tractor obstructing the road.

As rescuers gathered to provide aid to Nyama, a Ford Ranger—reportedly driven by Chief Superintendent Dube—ploughed into the group, fatally injuring Mandimutsira. He was rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital but was pronounced dead at around 7:30 PM.

“It’s heartbreaking,” the officer added. “We have lost not just a colleague but a hero who gave his life trying to save another. Our thoughts are with both families during this incredibly difficult time.”

Officer Nyama also succumbed to injuries sustained in the initial collision. His death and that of Mandimutsira have reignited urgent calls for enhanced road safety measures along the hazardous highway stretch.

ZPCS officials emphasized the need for immediate government intervention. “There must be warning signage, reflectors, and better lighting on that stretch,” the officer said. “We cannot keep losing lives like this.”

Police are conducting investigations into the sequence of events leading to the tragic crash.

See official ZPCS statement below:

NOTICE OF DEATH

TO: The Officer Commanding Masvingo Province, Deputy Officer Commanding, CSO Human Capital, CSO Admin and Statistics, Senior Officers and All Officers

It is with profound regret that I inform you of the passing of P.C.O Mandimutsira of Mutimurefu Prison Farm, a dedicated member of Mutimurefu Prison Farm, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident on 21/05/2025 at Mutimurefu Bus Stop.

At around 18.00 hrs, a tractor and a pick-up truck were involved in a road accident. Residents from Mutimurefu, including officers, responded and went on to assist victims at the scene.
Unfortunately, amidst assisting, a Ford Ranger belonging to Chief Superintendent Dube of Z.R.P (DISPOL), oncoming from the Mutare side, failed to judge the tractor-pickup accident in time and, while trying not to cause another accident, the Ford Ranger veered off the road in the direction where Mutimurefu residents were standing—thus striking P.C.O Mandimutsira who was also assisting.

The late P.C.O Mandimutsira was transported to Masvingo General Hospital where he received medical attention. Despite efforts to save a life, the late P.C.O Mandimutsira was pronounced dead as informed by Masvingo General Hospital around 19.30 hrs.

As Mutimurefu, we are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincerest condolences to the officer’s family and colleagues.

A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is underway by Z.R.P Masvingo Traffic.

Sincerely,
Superintendent F.Z Makonese
Officer in Charge, Mutimurefu Prison Farm

Tshabangu Reveals ‘Selling-Out’ Deal In Push For GNU

By A Correspondent-Self-imposed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu has openly told legislators aligned to him that he has secured a deal guaranteeing their continued stay in Parliament beyond 2028 under a proposed government of national unity (GNU).

Tshabangu made the remarks during a caucus meeting with 20 MPs and senators loyal to him at Parliament yesterday. His revelations have reignited accusations that he is acting in concert with Zanu PF to undermine the main opposition and neutralise its electoral gains.

In a competing meeting held on the same day, CCC faction leader Jameson Timba addressed 45 CCC MPs and senators in Harare, signalling deepening divisions within the opposition party.

A statement issued by Tshabangu’s faction declared:

“The party leadership reiterated the importance of constructive engagement with the government and key stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to national economic recovery and long-term development, extending beyond 2028.
The caucus reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a genuine national dialogue process that will pave way for an inclusive government of national unity to stabilise the country and reset the democratic agenda.”

Tshabangu’s statements have sparked outrage within opposition circles, with many viewing the comments as confirmation of a behind-the-scenes alliance with Zanu PF aimed at legitimising a disputed 2023 election outcome and facilitating a power-sharing arrangement that excludes legitimate opposition leadership.

Critics argue that Tshabangu’s actions since controversially recalling dozens of CCC MPs have consistently served the interests of the ruling party. His recall letters were readily accepted by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda—a Zanu PF politburo member—despite legal and constitutional challenges. This enabled Zanu PF to regain ground through by-elections and effectively dismantle CCC’s parliamentary majority.

Timba, speaking to NewsDay, dismissed Tshabangu’s GNU ambitions as a fantasy propped up by Zanu PF handlers.

“The attempt by Sengezo Tshabangu, having learned from his handlers to rig himself into the bona fide leadership of the CCC through a caucus, collapsed like a deck of cards when only 21 legislators turned up,” Timba said.
“The caucus that we called was well attended, with 45 attendees and eight apologies.”

Tshabangu has long been accused of being a Zanu PF proxy, a claim bolstered by his actions, which have consistently benefited the ruling party’s strategic goals. His meetings with State actors, perceived protection from legal scrutiny, and calls for a GNU have fed suspicions that he is part of a broader strategy to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2028 elections.

Observers warn that any GNU formed without a legitimate electoral mandate risks entrenching authoritarianism under the guise of national unity, while sidelining citizens’ democratic will expressed at the ballot box

Lazy Government Bureaucrats Eye War Veterans’ Housing Tender

Panic Hits Chinhoyi Over “Stray Lion” Caught On CCTV

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | National Parks And Wildlife
@FarawoTinashe dismisses reports that have shut down school learning in Chinhoyi over an alleged stray lion spotted on a CCTV camera. (picture enclosed).

A viral audio circulated early morning 22 May with a male voice saying, “ Hello guys there is a lion that has been found in our neighbourhood right now. I am standing at Bhebhe’s home. If you have children they must stay indoors. There is a line that has been spotted right now there are National Parks here now.

“It was not caught, stay in home.”

But Mr Farawo tells ZimEye there is lion at all. He tells the news network in a brief interview as follows-

“There’s no need for people to cause unnecessary panic in the community by spreading fake news because our reaction team went to the ground and there was nothing.

“What I am telling you is a formal report that when I receive such distress calls, we go on the ground and do assessments. We have gone on the ground to do assessments and there is nothing like that according to our assessment from our reaction team.

Question- but there are lions, are there not, in the caves?

Answer: “We have an enclosure and those lions are domesticated and they do not live in the wild; “

Question- And there’s no lion that has leaked?

Answer: “No, no, no. There is no need to count. There are only two lions there.” – ZimEye

Mbeu In An Embarrassing Hit-and-Run Storm

By A Showbiz Reporter-Afro-fusion sensation Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora,  has landed in hot water after a warrant of arrest was issued against him, four months after he was involved in a New Year’s Day car crash in Harare.

The “Mavanga” hitmaker, who was driving a Toyota Aqua at the time of the accident, is accused of negligent driving and failing to take responsibility for damages caused to another motorist, Patikayi Murisa, whose Peugeot 407 was hit at the intersection of Harare Drive and Borrowdale Road.

What has shocked many is not just the incident itself, but Mbeu’s conduct in the aftermath, which has left fans and observers questioning his integrity as a public figure.

“It has been five months of hell for me because Mbeu has not been picking up my calls after he caused the accident on January 1,” Murisa told H-Metro.

“I didn’t know him personally, but as a celebrity, I expected him to cooperate in resolving the matter. Instead, he vanished.”

Murisa said efforts to resolve the matter amicably hit a brick wall as Mbeu allegedly ignored calls, refused to communicate, and even referred Murisa to his wife, Faith Mashami — who later claimed she was no longer with the musician.

Screenshots of WhatsApp conversations shared with this publication confirm that Mashami eventually told Murisa to reach out to Mbeu directly, stating:

“We are no longer staying together.”

Murisa, who had initially hoped to avoid legal action, said he was left with no choice but to approach the police, leading to the issuance of the warrant of arrest.

“They had agreed to fix my car, which is still parked at home. I didn’t want it to end this way, but he gave me no option,” Murisa added.

Ironically, it was only after the warrant was issued that Mbeu resurfaced, reportedly pleading for a meeting with Murisa at Highlands Police Station.

Contacted for comment, Mbeu admitted the delay but maintained he is now cooperating.

“I know the guy, I’m meeting him on Thursday. We are actually talking,” he said.

In a now-controversial post on social media, Mbeu reflected on surviving the accident, writing:

“On the 1st of January 2025, just a day before my second born’s birthday, I got into a horrible accident and almost lost my life… I owe God my life. I will rise again and even stronger! Mbeu ndini!”

However, critics argue that while he had time to post about the crash online, he failed to do the honourable thing and make amends with the man whose vehicle and life were upended.

In a country where celebrities are expected to be role models, Mbeu’s silence, deflection, and delay raise uncomfortable questions about the social responsibility of public figures.

Horror as Lorry Collides with Train in Kadoma, Leaving Trail of Destruction

Kadoma – 22 May 2025

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | A terrifying collision between a haulage truck and a freight train occurred near Kadoma early Wednesday morning, sending shockwaves across the region and raising renewed concerns about railway crossing safety in Zimbabwe.

The crash, which happened at an unmanned rail crossing, left the lorry completely wrecked, with debris scattered across the tracks. Eyewitnesses who arrived shortly after the impact described a harrowing scene of mangled metal and chaos.

“There was a loud bang that shook the ground,” said one witness. “By the time we rushed to the scene, the truck was split open. It’s a miracle anyone made it out alive.”

Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of casualties, but emergency services, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police and National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) officials, swiftly attended the scene.

According to initial assessments by NRZ engineers, the collision severely damaged the rail line, disrupting freight operations between Harare and Bulawayo. Recovery operations were still ongoing late into the afternoon.

NRZ confirmed in a statement that investigations are underway to determine whether the truck driver ignored rail safety regulations or if visibility was compromised. The crossing, locals say, has long been a hazard due to lack of boom gates and warning signals.

”…the driver and his passenger jumped off the truck and left it to ram into the last two wagons of the passing train.
The two men were rushed to hospital where they were treated and discharged,” NRZ said in their statement.

No official fatality figures have been released, and police have urged the public to stay clear of the site to allow for recovery work.

This story is developing.

Epworth Community Disrupts Church Over Anti-Sensei Mugo Poster

By Sports Reporter Angry community members in Epworth have disrupted a planned night church vigil after a local church posted a flyer deemed antirenowned karateka and fitness trainer Sensei Mugove “Monya Mugo” Muhambi.

The leader of The Light of the World Church of All Nations, Prophet Michael Williams was forced to cancel an all-night prayer vigil scheduled for this weekend after residents in Epworth objected to the event’s theme, accusing the church of mocking the late martial artist.

The church’s flyer, which surfaced this week, promoted the vigil under the provocative theme: “OPERATION MAMONYA NGAAFE”, loosely translated as “Operation: The Bouncers Must Die.”

The backlash was immediate, with many interpreting the slogan as a direct reference to Sensei Mugo and fellow bodybuilder Naison Masaka—both of whom passed away within days of each other.

Sensei Mugo died in a car crash in Harare, sending shockwaves through the fitness and martial arts community.

Social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp groups comprising his friends and fans, were flooded with outrage.

Many condemned the church for what they viewed as a callous and poorly timed message. Some even called for Prophet Williams to be held accountable.

Ironically, Williams is a neighbour of the Muhambi family. In an audio statement obtained by H-Metro, he defended the flyer, saying it was grossly misunderstood.

“Yes, I am a neighbour to the Muhambis and I considered the late Mugove as my brother,” Williams said.

“The poster was designed and circulated on May 3, weeks before his tragic passing. Out of respect, we have since cancelled the event. The theme was spiritual in nature—it had nothing to do with Mugove personally. It was never intended to cause harm or offence.”

Despite the cancellation, the flyer has stirred deep emotions in Epworth and within Zimbabwe’s fitness and martial arts circles. Critics say the theme—regardless of when it was conceived—shows a lack of awareness and empathy.

Sensei Mugo was laid to rest on Monday at the Epworth Cemetery, with thousands in attendance—a testament to his impact and popularity. Among the mourners was Sports Minister Anselem Sanyatwe, who described him as “a true warrior whose discipline, dedication, and service to the community transcended sport.” Several senior government officials also attended the funeral.

Some members of the public have also questioned why Sensei Mugo was not buried at what they consider more “prestigious” cemeteries like Zororo or Glen Forest. However, sources close to the family revealed that the decision to bury him in Epworth was both sentimental and practical. Born and raised in the area before relocating to St Martins, Mugo maintained strong family ties in Epworth. His older brother Elson—a former boxer, fitness trainer, and councillor—is also buried there.

As the controversy begins to subside, community leaders have called for mutual respect in moments of grief and faith, cautioning against divisive language and sensationalism that risks deepening wounds.

Mnangagwa Twin Sons’ Friend Dies In Horror Crash

By A Correspondent- A close friend of one of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s twin sons, Sean, Vitalis Zvinavashe (Jnr)., has died.

Vitalis died following a car accident that occurred on Sunday, sources confirmed on Monday.

Zvinavashe Jr, affectionately known as “Vita” among his peers, passed away early Monday morning from injuries sustained in the accident. Social media tributes flooded timelines as friends, colleagues, and family members mourned his untimely death. The accident has shaken the Mazowe Central community, with reports indicating it occurred during the weekend and involved individuals connected to local soccer events.

Vitalis Zvinavashe Junior

Zvinavashe Jr was not only known for his charisma and influence among Zimbabwe’s young business elites, but also for his strong personal and business ties to Sean Mnangagwa. The two were involved in undisclosed ventures believed to straddle real estate and logistics, with sources describing Zvinavashe as “one of Sean’s most trusted allies.”

He was also the son of the late General Vitalis Zvinavashe, the former Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, who was one of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s closest and most loyal confidants during the early years of independent Zimbabwe.

Tributes online from figures like Last Matinyarare and others close to the family expressed deep grief. “Life will never be the same without this guy,” wrote Matinyarare. “Rufu ndimadzongonyedze.”

Family and friends are expected to release funeral arrangements in the coming days.

This marks yet another tragic chapter for Zimbabwe’s post-liberation political elite as the younger generation of power-linked families grapples with sudden losses amid growing national scrutiny.- ZimEye

Supreme Court Upholds 6-Year Jail Sentence in Rushwaya Bribery Scandal

Harare – 21 May 2025

By Dorrothy Moyo | The Supreme Court of Zimbabwe has upheld the conviction and six-year jail sentence of Alex Tombe, who was found guilty of attempting to solicit a US$20,000 bribe in a high-profile judicial corruption scandal aimed at securing a lighter sentence for convicted gold smuggler Henrietta Rushwaya.

The court confirmed the decision of the High Court, dismissing Tombe’s appeal and reinforcing the judiciary’s stance against corruption. Tombe’s co-accused, former prosecutor Pardon Dziva, is already serving a 10-year sentence for his central role in the bribery scheme.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the scheme was exposed after Progress Maringamoyo, a lawyer still at large, allegedly approached Wellington Takavarasha, a close associate of Rushwaya, claiming that Dziva could influence the outcome of Rushwaya’s sentencing if paid US$20,000.

Rushwaya’s sister, Helliatte, reported the bribery attempt to the Police Anti-Corruption Unit (PACU), which then launched a sting operation. In a carefully coordinated trap, marked bills were prepared and an exchange was arranged at a Kebab restaurant in central Harare. Both Dziva and Tombe were arrested after receiving US$10,000 in marked currency.

While Tombe was not part of the initial negotiation, the Supreme Court found him guilty on the grounds that he knowingly facilitated the handover of the bribe money—an act that directly contravened the law.

This case is one of the most significant rulings to date in the state’s anti-corruption drive and casts a long shadow over Zimbabwe’s judicial system, particularly as it implicates senior legal figures. The fugitive Maringamoyo remains on the run, with authorities urging the public to provide any information on his whereabouts.

The NPA said the ruling sends a clear message: “Judicial corruption will not be tolerated, and every link in the chain of criminal interference will be held accountable.”

Teachers Resign En Masse As Education Sector Collapses

By A Correspondent- The education sector is collapsing, with more than 15,000 teachers having resigned or taken early retirement.

The teachers are fleeing the collapsing education sector under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration due to poor salaries, deplorable working conditions, and psychological distress, teachers’ unions have revealed.
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) president Takavafira Zhou said the mass exodus reflects a growing crisis that is crippling the country’s education system, particularly in the sciences where critical shortages are now widespread.
“Yes, we have received such cases,” Zhou said. “What is most worrisome is the delay in processing retirement benefitsfor those who formally retire — some even die before accessing their pensions. The sciences — Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Combined Science and ICT — are the most affected.”
Zhou added that while accurate data is hard to obtain, estimates show that Zimbabwe is losing between 15,000 and 20,000 teachers annually due to desertions.
“These statistics are computable,” he explained. “Apart from monthly provincial reports, the Salary Services Bureau provides monthly updates on members whose dues can no longer be deducted after leaving the profession.”
Zhou accused the government of deliberately punishing teachers, saying many have been demoralised by continuous blame and lack of support, despite doing their best under dire conditions.
“There is a general feeling that the government is fixing teachers for a crime best known to the employer. Many are psychologically affected.”
He also slammed the government’s top-down imposition of curricula reforms with little consultation, planning, or provision of teaching materials.
“There is little room for genuine engagement. The government imposes changes without appropriate educational taxonomy, prudence, interoperability, or standardisation — let alone resources for implementation.”
The exodus of educators marks a deepening crisis in Zimbabwe’s public sector, with long-term implications for the country’s human capital and development prospects.

Online Gambling Increases Due to Deepening Economic Crisis in Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent

The Lotteries and Gaming Board has raised alarm over the rapid increase in illegal online gambling activities in Zimbabwe, linking the trend to the country’s worsening economic crisis and a lack of proper regulatory tools.

Presenting a report to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence, Home Affairs, Security Services and War Veterans Affairs, the board acknowledged the widespread growth of unauthorized online betting platforms.

A government source stated, “The report attributed the rise in illegal online gambling to technological advancements, increased accessibility, and the borderless nature of online activities, which pose regulatory enforcement challenges.”

The report also pointed to internal limitations, including staffing shortages, that hinder efforts to shut down illegal gambling operations. “The board also cited inadequate personnel as a hindrance to closing illegal gambling shops sprouting across the country,” the source added.

It further noted a notable increase in both foreign and local investment in the gambling sector in recent years, sparking concerns about the rising concentration of gambling outlets. In response, the board has implemented measures to manage gambling density, including limiting the number of licensed outlets and introducing more rigorous vetting processes for applicants.

The report additionally warned of the potential for gambling platforms to be exploited for illicit financial activities. This has led the board to adopt stricter monitoring and regulatory measures aimed at curbing financial crimes within the industry.

Retire Mnangagwa Now, Citizens Tell Zimbabwe’s Military

By A Correspondent

A group of concerned Zimbabwean citizens has made a formal appeal to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, urging them to intervene in what they describe as a national crisis marked by presidential incapacity, widespread corruption, and captured state institutions. The letter, dated 20 May 2025, outlines serious allegations against President Emmerson Mnangagwa and calls for his immediate retirement in the interest of restoring constitutional order and protecting national integrity.

See letter below:

To: The Commander Defence Forces of Zimbabwe National Army
Cc: All Service Chiefs, All General and Senior Officers
From: The Citizens of Zimbabwe
Date: 20 May 2025

RE: Request for Intervention on State Capture and Presidential Incapacity

Dear Commander Defence Forces,

We, the citizens of Zimbabwe, have sent Blessed Geza to speak on our behalf, highlighting the urgent need for your intervention in addressing the rampant state capture and corruption perpetrated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his associates.

Despite overwhelming evidence, there has been a glaring lack of investigation or accountability, suggesting a culture of impunity. Our constitution, specifically Section 212, empowers the Army to restore order, protect territorial integrity, peace, the rule of law, and democratic institutions.

We bring to your attention the following pressing concerns:

  • The President’s alleged involvement in corrupt activities, bleeding state resources for personal gain
  • The failure to address bread-and-butter issues, such as basic services, which has led to widespread suffering
  • Allegations of the President’s deteriorating health, specifically vascular dementia, which may incapacitate him from performing his duties
  • Attempts to extend the President’s term of office to 2030 and create a political dynasty
  • Captured democratic institutions such as ZACC, Judiciary Services, Human Rights Commissions, and others

We implore you, as the guardians of our nation’s integrity, to intervene before it’s too late. We seek your assistance in restoring the rule of law, ensuring accountability, and protecting our democratic institutions.

We have faith in the Zimbabwe National Army’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and defending our nation’s interests. We urge you to take swift and decisive action to address these critical issues.

Please note this is just a cover note — a detailed report is attached.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Yours sincerely,
The Citizens of Zimbabwe

Fake O-Level Certificates Land Duo in Legal Trouble Over Nursing School Applications

By A Correspondent

Two women from Mutare and Harare are facing legal consequences after allegedly forging Ordinary Level certificates to gain entry into nursing training programs at Parirenyatwa and Chitungwiza hospitals.

The accused are Lisa Chiedza Chivasa (22), from Hobhouse in Mutare, and Tendai Florence Muroiwa from Harare.

Muroiwa has already been convicted and sentenced to one year in prison, wholly suspended on condition of good behavior. She was also ordered to perform 210 hours of community service at Greendale Clinic.

Chivasa appeared before the same magistrate and was granted US$50 bail while awaiting trial.

According to the state, on May 16, 2025, Chivasa misrepresented her academic qualifications while applying to the Parirenyatwa School of Nursing. She submitted a forged certificate claiming to have passed five O’ Level subjects, including a C in Combined Science, a C in Agriculture, and an A in Mathematics.

However, the state alleges that Chivasa actually received an E in Combined Science, a D in Agriculture, and was ungraded in Mathematics.

The forgery was uncovered by human resources manager Macdonald Magavu during a routine verification of credentials. He alerted loss control officers, leading to a police report and Chivasa’s subsequent arrest.

Nomsa Kangara appeared for the state in the matter.

Prison Guard Up For Cell-Phone Theft

By Crime and Courts Reporter- Police have arrested a prison officer for stealing cellphones from three of his neighbours at Harare Central Prison Camp.

Clive Kahiya confessed to the theft and led to the recovery of some of the stolen phones.

His three neighbours were asleep when he gained entry into their rooms through an unlocked door.

He stole a Samsung A02 phone, which had US$100 in its porch, from Lovemore Chipinda.

The phone was tucked under the pillow.

He stole two cellphones, a Samsung Note 10 and a Samsung Note 25G, from Tawanda Mpofu.

Both Samsung cellphones were on the charger. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.

“Police arrested a man for theft. All the stolen cellphones were recovered from the accused person who resides in a separate room to where the complainants stay.

“Total value of cellphones stolen from the trio is US$$890 and US$740 was recovered,” said Insp Chakanza.

Top Music Celebrity In Hit-and-Run Drama

By A Correspondent- One of Zimbabwe’s most promising musical talents and Afro-fusion sensation Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora, has landed in hot water after a warrant of arrest was issued against him, four months after he was involved in a New Year’s Day car crash in Harare.

15,000 Teachers Flee Mnangagwa Government Amid Collapse of Sector

The Strategic Value of Timesheet Software for Modern Workplaces

Today’s workplaces are using more digital tools and becoming more flexible. With more teams and remote work, businesses must find better ways to manage time and productivity. Because of this, there is now a greater need for digital workforce tools. For example, timesheet software is used to track hours, simplify tasks and assist in making better decisions. In this article, we will examine how timesheet software helps modern workplaces become more efficient, accurate and perform better.

 Understanding Timesheet Software

Timesheet software is used by businesses to monitor the time employees spend on different tasks, projects or work hours. The main features are tracking time, managing who is present and producing reports. Most tools let employees clock in and out, either by themselves or automatically and managers can review and approve their timesheets. Advanced systems allow you to track your projects, analyze time spent and connect with payroll or project management tools. Using timesheet software instead of manual methods guarantees correct records, saves everyone time and makes things run more smoothly for both parties.

Strategic Business Benefits

Better Planning and Allocation of Resources

The Timesheet app helps a lot in making project planning more effective. When managers know how employees spend their time, they can use resources more effectively. This information reveals which projects are more urgent and where there are uneven workloads. With time, you can identify patterns that help you improve future project estimates, avoid delays and prevent wasting or lacking resources. As a consequence, businesses can improve how their teams work and guarantee that all deadlines and budgets are met.

Data analytics helps to improve productivity.

Advanced analytics in today’s timesheet tools help turn raw time data into useful productivity information. Managers can check visual dashboards and reports to see how many tasks have been completed, how projects are advancing and how efficient employees are. They help us notice trends in performance, find areas that are not working well and determine which processes should be improved. Using this information, organizations can improve their processes, make workflows more efficient and achieve higher results without adding more work.

Making Decisions with Knowledge for Management

Good strategy depends on having accurate information at all times. With timesheet software, you can trust the data you get to help with planning, budgeting and forecasting. The software helps with making decisions about a client’s profitability and future hiring plans by giving accurate information. It helps leaders avoid unexpected issues, be more open, and address business problems before they become serious. In the end, timesheet software helps more than just track time; it also supports the company’s growth over time.

 Team and Employee Empowerment

Encouraging Transparency and Accountability

With timesheet software, everyone can see how time is being used within the team. If employees can easily see their time entries, it encourages them to be responsible and trustworthy. When everyone can see the tasks and workloads, there is less chance for misunderstandings. It also encourages team members to take charge of their time. One of the key benefits of timesheet management is this transparency, which helps each employee improve and unites the team around shared goals and standards.

Fairness in Work Evaluation and Performance Tracking

Using timesheet software ensures that performance reviews are based on real data and not on assumptions. Managers can see what each staff member has done by tracking time and tasks accurately. As a result, everyone’s contributions are recognized and the team moves forward using measurable data. When employees are confident they’ll get fair feedback, it makes them feel better and encourages them. Basically, it sets up a system where advancement and rewards depend on how well and how much an employee performs.

Flexibility for Remote and Hybrid Teams

With more companies using remote and hybrid work, timesheet software becomes very useful. Employees can use any device to log their hours and handle their tasks, whether they are at home, in the office or traveling. Because of this, work can be done efficiently from any place. Team members are informed in real time and managers can see how the work is progressing without having to watch over every detail. Working flexibly and still being responsible helps employees balance their work and personal lives, feel more independent and be happier at work.

Choosing the Right Timesheet Solution

Selecting the best timesheet software means looking at how it matches your team’s priorities. Automation, real-time status, reporting features and simple user interfaces should be your main priorities. Combining systems is required your new software should be easy to use with your current payroll, HR and project management applications. A system is valuable if it supports your business growth yet stays easy to understand. Protecting employee data should be a top priority when creating your network. Any solution worth using will handle functionality, work in any situation and be secure for long-term compliance.

Conclusion

Using timesheet software helps managers and employees plan better, work more efficiently and achieve more. It changes time tracking from a simple task into a useful way to make decisions and hold people accountable. With more digital and flexible workplaces, using dependable timesheet software helps a business succeed in the long run. When workflows are improved and transparency is supported, it changes from a tracking tool to a key factor in sustainable growth and efficiency.

Pharmacy Employee Steals USD 300 000 From Company

BY A Correspondent

A credit controller at Varichem Pharmaceutical Company was on Wednesday arraigned before the court facing charges of theft of trust property after allegedly embezzling US$300,000 from his employer.

Milton Goremusandu, 42, appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa, who remanded him in custody until Thursday for a bail ruling.

Goremusandu is alleged to have committed the offence in collaboration with his subordinate, Edwell Sibanda, a debtor’s clerk, who is already on remand.

According to court documents, earlier this month the complainant received a tip-off from a whistleblower indicating that Goremusandu and Sibanda were working together to steal funds from the company.

“A preliminary internal investigation revealed that between 2021 and May 2025, the accused collected cash from various company clients—Trinity Pharmacy (US$252,930), Vidamac Pharmaceuticals (US$36,350), Asca Health Care (US$33,220), and Care Point Pharmacy Chinhoyi (US$24,829)—but failed to bank or submit the received funds,” read the court papers.

Goremusandu allegedly instructed Sibanda to process fraudulent journal entries that debited customers who did not owe the company and credited those who had paid, in a bid to conceal the theft.

Using this method, the accused is said to have prejudiced the company of a total of US$347,329.

The matter was reported to the police on 12 May 2025, leading to Sibanda’s arrest at his workplace two days later.

On 18 May 2025, police searched Goremusandu’s residence and recovered a grey Toyota Fortuner SUV valued at approximately US$60,000 and a white Toyota Corolla Axio worth around US$10,000. The vehicles, believed to be proceeds of the crime, were found in the possession of his wife, Miranda Rutendo Mativenga.

The total amount allegedly stolen stands at US$347,329, with two motor vehicles valued at US$70,000 being held as exhibits

Warriors head coach Michael Nees and his assistant Takesure Chiragwi will not be available to lead the national team at the upcoming COSAFA tournament.

The duo is set to travel to Morocco with the senior national team, which is scheduled to play two international friendly matches against Niger and Burkina Faso.

With their absence confirmed, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has begun the search for an interim coach to guide the Warriors during the COSAFA competition.

Last year, the team was led at the tournament by Jairos Tapera, who stepped in on a temporary basis. It remains to be seen whether ZIFA will turn to him again or appoint a new face to take charge of the campaign.

Zanu PF Heavyweight Distances Self From Swiftly Constructed Fuel Service Station

By A Correspondent

Zanu PF MP for Mberengwa Central, Tinashe Shumba, is at the centre of controversy after the rapid construction of a fuel service station near Mucheke River in Masvingo, raising concerns about political influence and regulatory shortcuts.

The GTS-branded station, believed to stand for “Goga Tinashe Shumba” — a combination of the MP’s nickname and initials — was completed and operational within five weeks.

Located in the proposed site for Masvingo’s new Central Business District and smart city, it is currently the only structure in the undeveloped zone.

Shumba, who has a background in gold mining and was once a security guard, denied ownership of the station. “I’m merely a contractor at the site,” he told The Masvingo Mirror, distancing himself from direct links to GTS despite evidence from Chronicle identifying him as the proprietor of multiple GTS stations in Mberengwa and Kwekwe.

The project initially faced resistance from the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), which halted construction in February for non-compliance.

“The new GTS service station was ordered to stop construction work on 11 February 2025 because it did not yet have an EMA certificate of development,” said an official at EMA Masvingo.

However, the ban was lifted within days, and by May 12, the station was already serving customers.

Critics argue the speed and approval process reflect preferential treatment. “If it were any ordinary citizen, they’d still be battling with paperwork. This is what unchecked political power looks like,” said a local resident who declined to be named.

Shumba is no stranger to controversy. In 2024, the Deputy Judge President, Justice Garainesu Mawadze, issued a court order barring him and Kubatana Mining Syndicate from evicting villagers in Mberengwa in pursuit of gold mining. Villagers accused him of using armed men to intimidate them and boasting that no authority could stop him.

According to Chronicle, Shumba rose from humble beginnings to become a symbol of government empowerment, leveraging gold mining ventures to build a growing business empire that now includes fuel retail.

Whether the GTS service station is a mark of entrepreneurial success or a case of political privilege remains a divisive question in Masvingo — but for now, the pumps are running.

Call for Intervention by Citizens to the Zimbabwe National Army on State Capture and Presidential Incapacity

We, the citizens of Zimbabwe, implore the Zimbabwe National Army to intervene in the pressing issues of state capture and presidential incapacity. The current administration, led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been marred by corruption, nepotism, and regionalism, resulting in widespread suffering and the undermining of the rule of law.

Corruption

President Mnangagwa and his close associates have been involved in numerous corrupt activities, including:
• Corruptly awarding companies formerly owned by the Zimbabwe National Army to Kuda Tagwirei.
• Awarding state tenders to cartels without following procurement procedures.
• Involvement in the “goat project,” involving the transfer of funds to Mnangagwa’s account in the Mpofu and Chimombe court case.
• Forcibly seizing mines from their rightful owners and awarding them to Mnangagwa’s family members and associates.
• Awarding tenders to cartels that charge unreasonable and exorbitant prices, with 100% funding from the Treasury, yet no work has been done. A case in point is Wicknell Chivhayo, who was awarded the Gwanda Solar Project, but to date, nothing has materialised. Over and above that, Chivhayo received millions of dollars even after a court challenge by ZESA.

Failure to Address Bread and Butter Issues

The President has failed to address critical issues affecting ordinary Zimbabweans, including:
• Poor remuneration for civil servants, with salaries below the poverty datum line.
• High unemployment rates, leading to increased crime and drug abuse among the youth.
• Essential services have collapsed due to corruption and mismanagement. Vision 2030 should focus on upgrading and building new infrastructure, not merely maintaining existing structures. Hospitals are in a dire and deplorable state. Our roads have become death traps for our loved ones. Poor water reticulation systems are a public health hazard. Everything is now being termed a “presidential scheme,” raising serious questions about the role of line ministries.
• Natural resources are being diverted for personal gain rather than being channelled through relevant ministries for the benefit of all Zimbabweans.

Presidential Incapacity

There are growing concerns about the President’s health, specifically vascular dementia, which may impair his ability to perform his duties. According to Section 97 of the Constitution, if the President is incapacitated due to a medical condition, Parliament should investigate with a view to his removal from office. Section 97 clearly outlines the grounds for removal: gross misconduct, wilful violation of the Constitution, and physical or mental incapacity. There is clear evidence that President Mnangagwa has violated the Constitution, which warrants his removal from office.

Attempt to Extend Presidential Term Limit

The 2030 Agenda includes a plan to amend the Constitution to extend the presidential term limit to 2030, in violation of Sections 91(2) and 328(7). This attempt has received mixed reactions, with the majority supporting the 2013 Constitution as it stands. Amending the Constitution requires two separate referendums, a costly process that diverts funds from critical needs such as healthcare. Our road network has become deadly, and water reticulation failures pose serious health risks. We, the citizens, oppose any constitutional amendment designed to benefit Emmerson Mnangagwa and his close associates.

Human Rights Abuses

The current regime stands accused of numerous human rights abuses, including:
• Suppression of Freedom of Speech, Association, and Expression
The regime has deployed the police to deter citizens from peacefully demonstrating, despite constitutional guarantees of these freedoms.
• Arbitrary Arrests and Detention
On March 31, 109 citizens were arrested and only granted bail after one month. Journalist Blessed Mhlanga was also arrested and spent nearly three months in remand prison before being granted bail.
• Compromised Judiciary
Zimbabwe’s judiciary has been captured and compromised, eroding public trust and allowing those in power to act with impunity.

Nepotism, Regionalism, and Tribalism

The President has consistently promoted nepotism and regionalism, appointing relatives and extended family to key positions and prioritising personal and regional interests over national well-being.

We, the citizens of Zimbabwe, urge the Zimbabwe National Army to intervene in these urgent matters to restore the rule of law, accountability, and transparency.

We have appended our signatures as citizens from all 10 provinces on the attached separate page.

‘We’re Not a Charity’: SA Hospitals Now Charging Foreigners Set Fees for Public Healthcare

By A Correspondent

Foreign nationals in Gauteng Province, South Africa, must now pay set fees to access public healthcare services, as provincial authorities implement stricter cost-recovery measures.

The move has sparked debate amid growing concerns about access to emergency medical services for non-citizens.

A recent case involved a Zimbabwean national who was billed R5,000 (about US$278) after receiving emergency care at a public hospital in the province — a clear example of the province’s new billing policy in action.

“These tariffs are necessary. We’re not a charity organisation — we have to ensure our facilities are sustainable,” said a senior official from the Gauteng Department of Health, who confirmed the new fee structure.

The department outlined the following standard charges for foreign nationals:

Outpatient/Emergency Visit: R5,000 (US$278)

Cardiology Services: R125,000 (US$6,965)

Cancer-related Conditions: R120,000 (US$6,686)

Medical Cases: R50,000 (US$2,786)

Routine Surgical Cases: R50,000 (US$2,786)

All Maternity Cases: R15,000 (US$835)

The Gauteng authorities argue the policy is aimed at managing the financial strain on its health system and ensuring public facilities can recover costs for services rendered to non-residents.

However, critics warn that the high fees could prevent vulnerable individuals from seeking life-saving care. “This policy could deter people from coming forward in emergencies — it’s a dangerous precedent,” said one health rights advocate who asked to remain anonymous.

As the debate continues, human rights groups are calling for a balance between cost recovery and the right to health for all people, regardless of nationality.

Justice Minister Uses Mozambique Former President’s Name To Refuse To Disclose Debt Figures

Ziyambi Defends Zimbabwe’s Debt Strategy in Parliament, Calls for Written Queries on “Disputable” Stats

Harare – 21 May 2025

Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi on Wednesday defended the government’s handling of Zimbabwe’s national debt, telling Parliament that while statistical claims about the country’s debt levels may be “disputable,” the situation is being actively managed through regional and international mechanisms.

Responding to tough questions from opposition MPs about rising debt concerns, Ziyambi urged lawmakers to submit detailed queries in writing, stating that some figures being circulated require interrogation and verification.

“The question is based on some statistical analysis figures that I may not agree with,” Ziyambi said during the session. “These figures need to be interrogated, and I believe the House deserves the actual data on the debt.”

Ziyambi revealed that Zimbabwe is working through a debt resolution programme championed by former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano, in collaboration with African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina. The programme aims to bring together creditors and stakeholders for a high-level debt roundtable on May 26 under the AfDB’s auspices.

“We are engaging at the highest level to resolve our debt situation,” said Ziyambi. “What is very important is that we have managed to clear our arrears with the IMF — we don’t owe them anything. The rest of the debt is manageable.”

The Justice Minister emphasized that further clarity will be provided in a formal response if Parliamentarians present their questions in writing, allowing government to table a comprehensive report showing “our debt status in actual percentages.”

Zimbabwe’s public debt remains a sensitive issue, with critics warning it is crowding out social spending and public investment. As of early 2025, Treasury estimates indicated that total public debt had surpassed US$18 billion, including external arrears. The government, however, insists it is pursuing debt clearance and restructuring under a credible roadmap.

More updates are expected following the May 26 debt dialogue involving the African Development Bank and other key partners.- ZimEye

Zanu PF MP Uses Political Muscle To Construct Service Station At Undesignated Point

Great Zimbabwe University Suspends Student Over “Derogatory” WhatsApp Remarks

By A Correspondent

Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) has suspended one of its students, Linos Munogweyi, for allegedly posting “threatening and derogatory” remarks against the institution’s management on a WhatsApp group, a move that has sparked debate over academic freedom and freedom of expression.

In a letter dated May 13, 2025, GZU Registrar Dr. S. Gwatidzo informed Munogweyi of the verdict following a disciplinary hearing held on May 2. The Student Disciplinary Committee found him guilty of contravening the university’s code of conduct and the Great Zimbabwe University Act.

“On 15 February 2025, at about 2054 hours, you used a WhatsApp group to unlawfully and intentionally post threatening and derogatory messages against the University Management, inciting other students to take action,” reads part of the letter.

As a result, the university has suspended Munogweyi for two semesters, with immediate effect. The letter further warns that any repeat of the offense will lead to “further and more severe disciplinary action.”

The development has drawn sharp criticism from student activists and opposition figures. Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youth assembly spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma condemned the suspension, calling it an attack on students’ rights.

“This is simply unacceptable by GZU,” Chuma said. “We can’t have tertiary institutions suspending students for exercising their freedoms. A university should be a place of sharing new horizons of knowledge, not muzzling of students.”

The university has not publicly detailed the specific contents of Munogweyi’s messages, but sources say the student had expressed dissatisfaction over administrative issues and called for student mobilisation.

Critics argue that GZU’s disciplinary measures are becoming increasingly punitive, stifling dissent and curtailing the democratic space within higher education institutions.

As of now, Munogweyi remains suspended and has acknowledged receipt of the disciplinary verdict. It is unclear whether he intends to appeal the decision.

ZANU PF Dangles US$15,000 to Tighten Grip on Rural Mwenezi

By A Correspondent

In a strategic move widely seen as an effort to consolidate political dominance in rural Zimbabwe, the ruling ZANU PF party has pledged nearly US$15,000 to fund income-generating projects in Mwenezi East’s Ward 15—just months after a series of similar rollouts in other rural constituencies.

The funding, announced by Mwenezi East legislator Honourable Sheilla Chikomo during a community gathering in the Turf area on Monday, will support poultry, fish, and goat farming initiatives. While officially framed as empowerment, the timing and focus of the financial injection have sparked debate over whether the ruling party is leveraging development funds to cement loyalty ahead of future elections.

“This is an ongoing programme. We want our people to be empowered and to stop relying on handouts,” Chikomo said. “As the President always says, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’, we are fulfilling our promises to the electorate.”

The pledge is targeted at beneficiaries aligned with all wings of the party, a detail that critics argue exposes a deeper political agenda disguised as economic support. In a region long regarded as a ZANU PF stronghold, the latest cash injection may serve more as a campaign tool than a development intervention, analysts suggest.

Despite the controversy, residents expressed cautious optimism about the projects, which they hope will bring lasting change to the remote community’s economy. Whether the initiative delivers on that promise—or merely serves as another means of political entrenchment—remains to be seen.

Legendary Former ZBC Broadcaster Joseph Madhimba Dies in Namibia

Okahandja, Namibia – 21 May 2025

Joseph Madhimba, a towering figure in Zimbabwe’s media and academic circles, has died in Namibia. He passed away this morning in Okahandja, about 60km north of Windhoek, after a prolonged illness stemming from a stroke suffered in early 2024. He was 70.

Joseph Madhimba

Madhimba was one of the most iconic newsreaders in the history of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), having joined the broadcaster shortly after Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980. Trained in journalism in Montpelier, France, and with a stint at Agence France-Presse (AFP), Madhimba brought a rare sophistication to Zimbabwean newsrooms during ZBC’s golden era—an era tragically curtailed by political capture.

He rose from sub-editor to lead newsreader under the stewardship of Claude Mararike, then head of news. Madhimba’s deep voice, composure, and commanding presence became synonymous with evening news bulletins, where he worked alongside other luminaries such as Grey Tichatonga, John Gambanga, Busi Chindove, Isidore Gwashure, Robin Shava, Everisto Mwatse, Caleb Thondhlana, Patrick Nyamhunga, Dorcas Munyoro, Praexedes Dzingare, Noreen Welch, Themba Bassopo-Moyo, and the late Alice Chavunduka.

Despite the exceptional talent at ZBC, the broadcaster quickly became a casualty of state control, with ZANU PF transforming it into a crude propaganda vehicle. This political interference not only stifled creativity and professionalism but also ruined the credibility and viability of what could have been a continental media powerhouse. Madhimba’s departure from ZBC mirrored the exodus of talent frustrated by the channel’s politicisation and decline.

After leaving broadcasting, Madhimba relocated to Namibia where he transitioned into academia and finance. He lectured at the Polytechnic of Namibia and built a respected profile in the region’s educational and financial sectors.

He suffered a debilitating stroke in early 2024 which eventually led to heart failure. Madhimba had been in and out of hospital for the past 12 months before his passing.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon.

Mourners across Zimbabwe and Namibia have begun paying tribute to a man remembered not just for his impeccable delivery on screen, but also for his intellectual depth and quiet defiance in the face of a shrinking media space.- ZimEye

Zivhu Claims Geza Was Used as Bait to Provoke Mnangagwa on 2030 Agenda

Headline:

Former legislator and outspoken political commentator Killer Zivhu has weighed in on the unfolding drama surrounding war veteran Blessed Geza, claiming the embattled figure was used as a sacrificial pawn by his associates to test President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s response to opposition against the controversial 2030 term extension agenda.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Zivhu stated, “This comrade was used by his friends to test ED’s reaction regarding 2030. They exploited him, knowing they lacked the power to remove ED. Now, they’re enjoying life with their families while the comrade is in hiding.”

Zivhu’s comments come amid reports that Geza has gone into hiding after issuing a fiery public address accusing Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga of betraying the liberation struggle and enabling state capture. The speech sparked national attention, particularly as it invoked military imagery and constitutional arguments about leadership failure.

In a further jab, Zivhu warned the public against following leaders “who are clueless,” bluntly stating in Shona, “Geza waperara uyu” (Geza is finished). His post was accompanied by an image calling for Geza’s arrest on charges of treason and inciting a coup.

Zivhu’s X post

Zivhu’s assertion implies that internal actors within or around ZANU PF may be testing the waters for dissent, but using less influential figures like Geza to gauge the consequences—while distancing themselves from any backlash.

Meanwhile, legal and political observers have pointed out that calls for arresting Geza over his statement could be unconstitutional and violate his right to free expression, particularly where it concerns public interest on presidential fitness and constitutional governance.

The controversy also reflects deeper tensions within the ruling elite about Mnangagwa’s alleged ambitions to extend his term beyond constitutional limits, a move that has attracted both domestic and international scrutiny.

As of now, Blessed Geza’s whereabouts remain unknown, and no formal legal proceedings have been announced. However, the calls for his arrest, amplified by state-linked social media accounts, suggest that the state may be building a narrative to isolate or criminalize dissenters ahead of a possible constitutional showdown.

Will Ndaitwah Reprimand Mnangagwa Over Gross Violation of Human Rights?

By A Correspondent

As Namibia’s newly inaugurated President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah begins her diplomatic engagement with Zimbabwe, her visit has stirred questions over whether she will confront President Emmerson Mnangagwa on his government’s alleged human rights abuses.

While the official agenda of President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s visit to Harare focuses on strengthening bilateral ties and promoting regional cooperation, critics and human rights activists are urging her to use the opportunity to speak out against the repression of dissent, abductions of opposition members, and continued clampdowns on civic space in Zimbabwe.

Political analyst Jeffryson Chitando expressed hope that the Namibian leader will not shy away from addressing the issue. “We hope Ndaitwah will reprimand Mnangagwa over gross violation of human rights. As a respected figure in the region and a woman with a strong liberation background, her voice carries weight,” Chitando said.

The visit, part of Nandi-Ndaitwah’s familiarisation tour of SADC member states, comes amid increasing scrutiny of Zimbabwe’s human rights record, especially after the controversial 2023 general elections and rising reports of politically motivated arrests.

Although her itinerary includes discussions on trade, agriculture, energy, and education, civil society groups argue that silence on human rights violations would be a missed opportunity for the Namibian president to assert a moral and democratic stance.

“It’s time regional leaders stop treating human rights as a side issue,” said one Harare-based activist. “True regional solidarity must include standing up for the oppressed.”

Whether President Nandi-Ndaitwah will use her diplomatic platform to address these concerns remains to be seen—but expectations are high among those hoping for a shift in SADC’s often-muted response to governance issues within member states.

Illegal Gold Panner Dies After Inhaling Toxic Gas

By A Correspondent

A 22-year-old illegal gold panner, Omega Mazivangeyi, tragically lost his life last Saturday after suffocating in a poorly ventilated mine shaft at Zaina Mine in Penhalonga.

According to Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, Mazivangeyi died after inhaling toxic gas deep inside a 20-meter shaft. “Mazivangeyi breathed in a toxic gas that killed him instantly,” said Chinyoka.

Mazivangeyi, from Nyabadza Village under Chief Mutasa in Honde Valley, had entered the mine in the company of a friend, Gift Mtetwa. The two arrived at the disused mine around 11 a.m. with the intention of illegally panning for gold.

“Mazivangeyi used a rope to descend into the shaft while Mtetwa remained outside. After a while, Mtetwa noticed that Mazivangeyi was not responding and climbed down to check on him,” explained Chinyoka.

However, upon entering the shaft, Mtetwa was quickly overwhelmed by the gas and had to climb out immediately. He then alerted fellow panners who assisted in reporting the incident to Penhalonga Police Station.

A joint operation by the police and Redwing Mine’s rescue team was launched, resulting in the retrieval of Mazivangeyi’s body. Authorities discovered that the shaft had been sealed off using soil and logs, severely restricting airflow.

“This shaft had limited ventilation, which contributed to the accumulation of toxic gases inside,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

Authorities have since reiterated the dangers of illegal mining, especially in unregulated and abandoned shafts, warning that such activities continue to claim lives.

The body of the deceased was taken to the local mortuary for a post-mortem.

Chinese Sneak Into Protected Chiredzi Mine

Six Chinese Nationals Granted Bail After Trespassing and Erecting Illegal Structures at Protected Chiredzi Mine

Chiredzi – 21 May 2025

By Dorrothy Moyo | Six Chinese nationals who illegally invaded a protected mining site and began constructing buildings without the owners’ consent were yesterday granted US$200 bail each by Chiredzi Magistrate Tendai Mutamba.

The accused — Huang Dongqiang, Liang Xiaoan, Li Anming, Huang Honguei, Chen Qinbo, and Yuan Feng — are jointly charged with local accomplice Nyasha Chauke. They face allegations of unlawfully refusing to vacate Oneiric Mine in Ndali, which is registered under special grant number 7809.

According to court records, the group was arrested on Thursday by detectives from the Chiredzi Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit (CID MFFU) following a complaint by the mine owners.

Prosecutors said the Chinese nationals, who reside at Mupinga Business Centre, conspired with Chauke to enter the mine without permission. They began erecting permanent structures on the site despite warnings from the rightful owners.

The mine operators reportedly discovered the developments on April 21, 2025, and formally ordered the group to halt construction on May 7. However, the accused continued with their activities, prompting a police report.

When questioned by law enforcement, the suspects failed to produce any legal documents authorising their presence or construction activities on the site.

All seven accused have been remanded to appear in court again on June 5 as investigations continue. Authorities say more charges may be considered depending on the outcome of the probe.

This case adds to growing tensions around foreign involvement in Zimbabwe’s mining sector, where allegations of illegal extraction, land invasions, and environmental violations have become increasingly common.- ZimEye

Flooding Crisis Hits University of Zimbabwe’s NC1 Hostel

Flooding Crisis Hits University of Zimbabwe’s NC1 Hostel, Students Displaced

Harare – 21 May 2025

By A Correspondent | A dozen University of Zimbabwe (UZ) students have been displaced following a severe flooding incident at the NC1 hostel, sparking outrage over the institution’s deteriorating infrastructure and continued neglect of student welfare.

Footage shared by the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) shows water gushing through corridors and pooling across hostel floors, with some rooms rendered completely uninhabitable. Students can be seen wading through ankle-deep water as they attempt to salvage belongings.

Sections of the hostel under water

“This is NC1, a UZ hostel which is flooding. The institution has not only failed to pay lecturers but even to provide basic services for students,” ZINASU posted, questioning who would bear the cost of emergency alternative accommodation.

The flooding, whose source remains unconfirmed, is being interpreted as symptomatic of broader governance failures at the institution. Critics say the crisis highlights a chronic neglect of infrastructure maintenance, while the university continues to face allegations of financial mismanagement and poor prioritization of resources.

“This is not just water damage. This is evidence of a system that has completely broken down,” said a student who requested anonymity. “There are no contingency plans, no emergency response, and no accountability.”

The flooding comes amid broader unrest at UZ, where lecturers have repeatedly gone unpaid and student amenities continue to collapse. Parents and guardians are now demanding answers from university authorities on why safety and sanitation standards are being ignored.

The university has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident or the relocation plan for affected students.

Lupane Man Arrested for Brutal Axe and Arson Attack on Elderly Woman Over Witchcraft Allegation

Lupane, Zimbabwe – 20 May 2025

By A Correspondent | Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed the arrest of 28-year-old Sibongiseni Mfanaso Mpofu in connection with a horrifying attempted murder case that has shocked the Lupane community.

According to police reports released today, the suspect allegedly struck 72-year-old Christine Ncube on the head with an axe before dousing her in paraffin and setting her ablaze. The gruesome attack took place on 18 May 2025.

Authorities say Mpofu accused the elderly woman of bewitching him — a claim that has sparked outrage and reignited concerns about the continued violence related to witchcraft allegations in rural Zimbabwe.

Christine Ncube sustained severe burns in the attack but was rescued by fellow villagers. She was initially treated at St Luke’s Hospital before being transferred to Mpilo Hospital for further care.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police condemned the incident and reminded citizens that such acts of violence are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of belief systems. Investigations are ongoing.
