Zanu PF Thugs Raid Blessed Geza Farm, Vandalize Property…

By A Correspondent

War veteran and political activist Blessed Geza, who has been at the forefront of a campaign opposing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s alleged attempts to extend his tenure beyond 2028, has revealed that his farm was raided by a group of suspected Zanu PF supporters on Thursday night.

In a statement posted on his official X account, Geza detailed the harrowing experience, indicating that a group of approximately 30 individuals arrived at his farm in two trucks.

According to Geza, the thugs violently breached the property, cutting through the perimeter fence, smashing windows, and breaking doors at the main house.

“Fellow Zimbabwe, I want to report to you that a group of about 30 thugs using two trucks stormed my farm last night, cut the perimeter fence, broke doors, and smashed all window panes on the main house. I strongly suspect they are ZANU PF-sent thugs spoiling for a fight with me,” Geza wrote in his post.

Geza, who has been vocal in his opposition to what he perceives as Mnangagwa’s unconstitutional attempt to remain in power, expressed his belief that the raid was politically motivated. He named several Zanu PF figures whom he suspects are behind the attack, including Legal Ziyambi Ziyambi, MP Polite Kambamura, and Councillor Freedom Matahwa.

“I strongly believe Legal Ziyambi Ziyambi, MP Polite Kambamura, and Councillor Freedom Matahwa are behind this. I will not be intimidated by kindergartens. Time for action is now. Watch out,” Geza stated, vowing not to be silenced by what he described as “kindergartens” or political intimidation.

The attack on Geza’s farm comes amid growing political tensions in Zimbabwe as Mnangagwa’s administration faces increasing opposition, with critics accusing the government of undermining the country’s constitution and seeking to extend presidential term limits. Geza’s outspoken criticism and activism against these perceived threats to democracy have made him a target of what he believes are politically motivated attacks.

The raid has sparked concern about the rising political violence in Zimbabwe, with many questioning the government’s role in fostering such actions. Geza’s resolve to continue his fight for constitutional integrity and his refusal to be intimidated by the attacks signal his commitment to his cause, despite the mounting pressure.

Mnangagwa Unleashes CIO To Crush Dissenting War Veterans

By Crime and Courts Reporter-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has escalated his crackdown on dissenting war veterans, using state security agencies to silence those opposing his rule.

The latest target is Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association leader Andreas Mathibela, who has come under state surveillance for criticizing Mnangagwa’s authoritarian grip on power.

The Joint Operations Command (JOC)—a shadowy security cluster comprising the CIO, Police, Army, Air Force, and Prisons—has issued a “catch and arrest” directive for Mathibela, effectively placing him on a government watchlist.

Security sources reveal that border officials at Plumtree have been instructed to intercept Mathibela if he attempts to leave Zimbabwe.

A leaked letter from the President’s Department to immigration officials at Plumtree reads:

Ref: Request for Watch-List for Persons of Security Interest

“This office kindly requests that you watch-list the following person of security interest, a Zimbabwean national: Ethan Mathibela.

Should the said individual present himself at Plumtree, Maitengwe, or Mphoengs border posts, your office is instructed to deny him exit and inform the President’s Department.”

Mathibela, aware of the escalating threats, confirmed his concerns:

“Indeed, we have gathered this information. It is obviously concerning for me and my family, especially in case of any attempts to kidnap me. I am making arrangements to ensure my family’s safety.”

Teachers Declare Strike Amid Political Crackdown

As political tensions mount, the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has called for a nationwide strike on March 28, citing the government’s failure to address salary grievances despite skyrocketing inflation.

ARTUZ is demanding a minimum salary of US$1,260 for teachers and has urged educators to boycott compromised unions and directly confront the government through mass action.

“The March 28 strike is an opportunity for teachers to unite and demand fair wages without interference, the union stated.

However, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a chilling warning:

“We will not tolerate illegal protests, violence, or disruption of peace. Those who incite unrest will face the full wrath of the law.”

With Mnangagwa intensifying his authoritarian grip, both activists and workers now find themselves at the mercy of an increasingly repressive state.

Kirsty Coventry Bags Top International Job

By Sports Reporter- Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry has been elected the International Olympic Committee President, beating six male candidates, including Britain’s Lord Coe.

She becomes the first female and African president of the international sports committee.

The 41-year-old former swimmer, who won two Olympic gold medals, secured a majority of 49 of the 97 available votes in the first round of Thursday’s election, while World Athletics boss Coe won just eight.

Zimbabwe’s sports minister Coventry will replace Thomas Bach – who has led the IOC since 2013 – on 23 June and be the youngest president in the organisation’s 130-year history.

Her first Olympics will be the Milan-Cortina Winter Games in February 2026.

“It’s a really powerful signal. It’s a signal that we’re truly global and that we have evolved into an organisation that is truly open to diversity and we’re going to continue walking that road in the next eight years,” Coventry said.

Runner-up Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr won 28 votes while France’s David Lappartient and Japan’s Morinari Watanabe earned four votes each. Prince Feisal al Hussein of Jordan and Sweden’s Johan Eliasch both took two.

Coventry, who already sits on the IOC executive board and was said to be Bach’s preferred candidate, is the 10th person to hold the highest office in sport and will be in post for at least the next eight years.

Coventry has won seven of Zimbabwe’s eight Olympic medals – including gold in the 200m backstroke at both the 2004 and 2008 Games.

“The young girl who first started swimming in Zimbabwe all those years ago could never have dreamed of this moment,” said Coventry.

“I am particularly proud to be the first female IOC president, and also the first from Africa.

“I hope that this vote will be an inspiration to many people. Glass ceilings have been shattered today, and I am fully aware of my responsibilities as a role model.”

Coventry described her election as an “extraordinary moment” during her acceptance speech, and promised to make IOC members proud of their choice.

During her election campaign Coventry pledged to modernise, promote sustainability, embrace technology and empower athletes.

She placed particular emphasis on protecting female sport, backing a blanket ban of transgender women from competing in female Olympic sport.

Coe congratulates Coventry

While Coe was disappointed with finishing a distant third, he accepted defeat and refused to be drawn into interpreting the vote.

“We have an athlete at the helm of the organisation,” Coe said. “We talked about it together a few weeks ago and we both agreed it was really important, and I’m very pleased for her. This is a very good result for the athletes.

“I’ve congratulated her. She’s got a huge job, but she will have the confidence of the athletes, and that’s very important.

“I think what is pretty clear is that the athletes and the women members in particular supported her very strongly in the first round, and you know those things happen in elections.”

The presidential vote took place at a luxury hotel in a seaside resort about 60 miles south of the Greek town of Olympia, the birthplace of the ancient Games.

IOC members had to hand in their phones before a secret electronic ballot at about 14:30 GMT.

The campaign process restricted candidates to 15-minute presentations at a private event in January, with media barred and no scope for questions from members afterwards.

Endorsements by members were not allowed, nor was any criticism of rival candidates, meaning behind-the-scenes lobbying played an important role.

British Olympic Association CEO Andy Anson congratulated Coventry, saying: “We know her well and look forward to working together to grow the Olympic movement’s global relevance and commercial success.”

Russia hopes Coventry’s victory will lead to its return from sporting exile. Russian athletes have not competed at the Olympics under their own flag since 2016, following the state-run doping scandal and then the war in Ukraine.

“We look forward to a stronger, more independent, and more prosperous Olympic movement under a new leader, and to Russia returning to the Olympic podium,” Russian sports minister Mikhail Degtyarev, who is also head of the Russian Olympic Committee, wrote on his Telegram account.

Coventry has faced criticism in Zimbabwe in her capacity as sports minister since 2018, but defended her association with the government of controversial president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Governmental interference in football resulted in Fifa banning Zimbabwe from the international game in 2022, while last year the United States imposed sanctions on Mnangagwa and other senior officials for corruption and human rights abuses.

‘Communication will be key’

Coventry pledged to work with her fellow election candidates, saying: “What I want to focus on is bringing all the candidates together. There were so many good ideas and exchanges over the last six months.

“I’d really like to leverage off of that and then really bring everyone back together and have a reset.

“I have some ideas, but a part of my campaign was listening to the IOC members and hearing what they have to say and hearing how we want to move together.”

On the challenges posed by geopolitical issues, Coventry said: “The IOC and the Olympic movement have lasted so many generations because it brings people together and the diversity is a unifying way for us to connect with each other.

“So right now in today’s world, this is our biggest platform to showcase the good of humanity and to share our values as the Olympic movement.”

Coventry said that “communication will be key” with US President Donald Trump, with fears his immigration policies could affect athletes’ abilities to get visas before the 2028 LA Games.

“I have been dealing with, let’s say, difficult men in high positions since I was 20 years old,” she said.

‘A landmark moment for world sport’ – analysis

This is a landmark moment for the IOC and for world sport.

As the first woman to hold sport’s most powerful role, Kirsty Coventry is a trailblazer. But as a member of its executive board, she is also an IOC insider.

Coventry was seen as the preferred candidate of outgoing president Thomas Bach and her convincing victory after a low-key campaign will be seen as a reflection of his influence.

IOC members were clearly untroubled by her close association with the controversial Zimbabwe government.

Coventry will assume her new role in June at a critical time for the Olympic movement.

She will have to deal with a tense geopolitical landscape, the potential reintegration of Russia, and US President Donald Trump before the 2028 LA Games.

She will also have to tackle issues such as gender eligibility, climate change, and ensuring the Games remain relevant going forward.

Meanwhile, this is a rare setback for Lord Coe, who will be hugely disappointed to have been beaten so convincingly.

On paper he was very well qualified for the role, but antagonised the IOC hierarchy with a surprise move to introduce cash for gold medals at last year’s Paris Olympics and his tough stance with Russia.

He was seen as a reform candidate and a disruptor – and in the final reckoning that seems to have cost him the role he said he had been preparing for all his life.

Coventry’s triumph is a groundbreaking moment. But it also suggests that the IOC is resistant to the change that Coe stood for.

CIO Targets Another War Vets Leader

By Crime and Courts ReporterZimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association leader Andreas Mathibela has been targeted by the state for criticizing President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mathibela has been placed under surveillance by the Joint Operations Command (JOC), which has issued a cath and arrest directive to the police.

JOC, which comprises the CIO, Police, Army, Air force, and Prisons, is widely known for its role in the surveillance, abduction, and disappearance of anti-Zanu PF citizens under the guise of protecting national security.

Sources reveal that the security cluster, operating through the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), has instructed border officials at the Plumtree border post to alert the police if they spot Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association leader Andreas Mathibela attempting to leave the country.

Mathibela, like Blessed Geza—who is now in exile—has been vocal in his criticism of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule, demanding his resignation.

NewsDay has established that Mathibela has been placed on a government watch list.

A leaked letter from the President’s Department, addressed to the regional immigration officer at Plumtree, reads:

Ref: Request for Watch-List for Persons of Security Interest

This office kindly requests that you watch-list the following person of security interest, a Zimbabwean national: Ethan Mathibela.

Should the said individual present himself at Plumtree, Maitengwe, or Mphoengs border posts, your office is instructed to deny him exit and inform the President’s Department.

Your usual cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Mathibela confirmed he was aware of the watch-listing.

“Indeed, this is what we have gathered, and it is obviously concerning for me and my family, especially in case of any attempts to kidnap me,” he said.

“I am making arrangements to ensure my family’s safety.”

Teachers Declare Strike Amid Political Tensions

Amid escalating political tensions, the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has called for a nationwide teachers’ strike on March 28, citing the government’s failure to address salary grievances despite the rising cost of living.

In a statement, ARTUZ demanded a minimum salary of US$1,260 for teachers and criticised the government for undermining genuine collective bargaining by negotiating through the National Joint Negotiating Council.

“ARTUZ urges all teachers to bypass these compromised unions and confront the employer directly through mass action,” the statement read.

“The March 28 strike is an opportunity for teachers to unite and demand fair wages without interference.”

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a stern warning, stating that law enforcement would not tolerate any unlawful protests.

“We remind the public that any form of protest must be conducted within the confines of the law,” Nyathi told NewsDay.

“We will not tolerate violence, destruction of property, or disruption of peace. Those who incite or participate in illegal activities will face the full wrath of the law.

We urge citizens to remain peaceful and not be misled by individuals.”

Socialite “Breezy” Arrested in School Fees Forgery Scandal

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – March 21, 2025

Bulawayo socialite Brendon Shoko, widely known as “Breezy,” has been arrested in connection with an elaborate forgery scandal that has shocked the city. Shoko (28) allegedly teamed up with his girlfriend, Priscah Chipeta (38), also known as Gugulethu Banda, and an accomplice, Knowledge Mhlanga (41), to defraud a local woman of US$560.

According to court papers, the trio is accused of swindling Ms Phethekile Madonko, who had entrusted Chipeta with the funds to pay her child’s school fees at Gloag High School. Instead, the accused allegedly diverted the funds for personal use and conspired to forge CBZ Bank deposit slips to give the false impression that the fees had been settled.

The scam unraveled when Gloag High School contacted Ms Madonko, reminding her of the outstanding fees, which led to a confrontation with Chipeta. Despite Chipeta’s vehement denial of wrongdoing, Ms Madonko proceeded to file a police report, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects.

The accused appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Maxwell Ncube on Thursday, where they were remanded in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for today. The State is being represented by prosecutor Ms Mufaro Ndirayire.

The case details two separate incidents. On January 7, Ms Madonko handed Chipeta US$350 to deposit into the school’s CBZ Bank account. Instead, Chipeta allegedly converted the money for personal use and sought the help of Shoko, who in turn enlisted Mhlanga to forge a deposit slip.

A second incident occurred on February 20, when Ms Madonko gave Chipeta an additional US$210 for the same purpose. Once again, the funds were allegedly misappropriated, and the accused are said to have repeated the forgery scheme.

The scandal has sparked outrage and concern over the exploitation of trust in the community, particularly in matters involving children’s education.

More details to follow as the story develops.

Shortage Of ZESA Transformers Hits Nation

By A Correspondent

The country’s electricity grid is facing a dire shortage of critical infrastructure, with 6,000 transformers reported as missing, largely due to widespread vandalism. However, the Minister of Energy and Power Development, July Moyo, seems to be deflecting attention away from the real issue — the government’s inability to upgrade and maintain key equipment.

In a session at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Moyo responded to questions from Murehwa South legislator Noah Mangondo regarding the government’s strategy to replace transformers, especially in areas critical for schools and health institutions. Many of these areas have been without electricity for months.

In his response, Moyo sought to downplay the crisis, focusing on external factors rather than addressing the government’s failure to adequately invest in or maintain the country’s electrical infrastructure. He said:

“The main problem we are facing is vandalism of infrastructure and as we speak, 6,000 transformers were stolen countrywide. We have no capacity locally to produce enough to replace them timeously.”

While Moyo attempted to frame the shortage as an unavoidable issue caused by criminal activity, many critics argue that the underlying problem is a lack of long-term investment in the country’s energy infrastructure. As local manufacturing capabilities remain limited, the government has been unable to keep up with the rising demand for replacement equipment.

Moyo’s statement also emphasized the government’s new policy on wooden electricity poles, stating that:

“For the wooden poles, the policy we now have is that we replace them with concrete ones which are more durable.”

However, this response raised concerns about the government’s priorities. While upgrading poles to concrete may be a positive step, it does little to address the root cause of the ongoing energy crisis — the severe shortage of transformers and the failure to replace them in a timely manner.

It’s clear that Moyo’s answers failed to address the larger issue at hand: a broken system that has seen the country’s electrical infrastructure deteriorate due to neglect, coupled with a lack of strategic planning and funding. The shortage of transformers has left countless schools, hospitals, and households without power for extended periods, leading to frustration among citizens and politicians alike.

Moyo’s attempt to conceal the government’s failure to provide adequate resources for the sector was evident in his unwillingness to fully address the long-term implications of the crisis. The situation is further compounded by the fact that the government has shown little progress in improving the country’s capacity to produce the necessary equipment domestically.

As the nation continues to grapple with chronic power shortages, the call for stronger leadership and accountability in the energy sector grows louder. Without substantial investment in infrastructure and a concerted effort to rebuild and upgrade critical components, the energy crisis in Zimbabwe is likely to persist.

Bus Company Diverts from Chirundu Border Due to Zimbabwe’s Deteriorating Roads

By A Correspondent

A major bus company, Likili Motors, has ceased operations via the Chirundu border due to the deplorable state of Zimbabwe’s roads. The company has opted for an alternative route through the Victoria Falls border to ensure the safety of its passengers and protection of its vehicles.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Likili Motors announced the immediate diversion of its cross-border services from Johannesburg to Zambia. The decision, effective immediately, was necessitated by the poor road conditions on the Zimbabwean side, which posed significant risks to both passengers and vehicles.

According to the company, the diversion is a proactive measure aimed at safeguarding the well-being of its clients and preventing potential accidents. While Likili Motors has not provided a timeline for resuming services via the Chirundu border, the company will continue to utilize the Victoria Falls border for the foreseeable future.

The decision by Likili Motors highlights the growing concerns about Zimbabwe’s infrastructure, particularly the country’s roads. The poor maintenance and wear and tear of major roads have led to numerous accidents, delays, and frustrations for both local and international travelers.

As Zimbabwe struggles to address its infrastructure challenges, the government’s response will be crucial in retaining and attracting cross-border businesses like Likili Motors. The country’s transportation sector is facing significant hurdles in maintaining the necessary infrastructure to support the growing demand for road travel.

In light of these challenges, Likili Motors’ decision serves as a wake-up call for the Zimbabwean government to prioritize infrastructure development and maintenance. By doing so, the country can ensure the safety and convenience of travelers, while also promoting economic growth and development.

Chipinge Based PYCD Shapes National Policy

Claris Madhuku PYCD Director

By Parliament Reporter- A Chipinge-based youth empowerment and advocacy grouping, Platform for Youth and Community Development (PYCD), has been invited by the government to participate in the 2025 national budget consultations.

This recognition marks yet another milestone for the organisation, which has a long history of successful lobbying on key community issues, including land rights, environmental justice, and governance transparency.

The budget consultations, held ahead of the Finance Minister’s official budget statement, provide stakeholders with an opportunity to shape national priorities.

The invitation was extended by Clemence Chiduwa, chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Budget and Finance, signalling the growing impact of the organisation’s advocacy efforts.

The organisation’s  Claris Madhuku, Thursday confirmed the group’s readiness for the event, emphasising that they will raise several pressing issues that directly affect the Chipinge community.

One of PYCD’s key priorities is the establishment of a Human-Wildlife Conflict Fund. Despite the introduction ofthe Chibuwe-Mutema CAMPFIRE project, human-wildlife conflicts remain rampant in Chipinge.

” The budget must allocate clear financial support to sustain this initiative and effectively address the daily challenges faced by affected communities,” said Madhuku.

He said the organization would also push for the creation of a Disaster Fund and an Early Warning System (EWS) to mitigate the devastating effects of cyclones and floods, which have historically wreaked havoc in Chipinge.

PYCD believes that an effective EWS should be integrated with local community radios, Vemuganga FM and Ndau FM, both of which were recently licensed by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe.

” These radio stations, should be strengthened to enhance access to information and serve as key agents in the national devolution agenda,” he added.

Climate adaptation is another major concern. PYCD is advocating for the solarisation of boreholes to support community gardens and irrigation projects.

Many areas in Chipinge suffer from severe water shortages, and the organisation believes that investment in sustainable water solutions will significantly improve local livelihoods.

The expansion of solar energy is also high on PYCD’s agenda.

” The Hakwata Solar Project has already demonstrated the viability of solarisation in Chipinge, and we want similar initiatives rolled out, particularly in schools,” Madhuku said.

The organisation stresses the need for computers and reliable internet access to ensure that students are not left behind as the country embraces Education 5.0, which integrates technology into learning.

Additionally, PYCD will call for transparency in the disbursement of devolution grants.

The organisation argues that funds from the central government must be allocated in a timely and systematic manner to prevent bureaucratic delays that often slow down procurement and development projects.

The group is also spearheading efforts to combat drug and substance abuse in the region.

With an alarming increase in school dropouts and child marriages linked to drug abuse, PYCD wants anti-drug campaigns to be prioritized in schools and adequately funded through the national budget.

Beyond its lobbying efforts in the budget process, PYCD has a proven track record of standing up for Chipinge’s most vulnerable communities.

The organisation played a pivotal role in successfully blocking private companies that sought to displace residents from their land.

It has also exposed corruption within local authorities in Chipinge and surrounding districts, holding officials accountable for mismanagement and abuse of public resources.

Moreover, PYCD played a crucial role in stopping politically connected land barons from prematurely pushing for Checheche Growth Point to be granted town status.

The move was a ploy to enable fraudulent land sales to unsuspecting home seekers, and PYCD’s intervention saved many from falling victim to this scheme.

With a strong history of activism and policy influence, PYCD’s participation in the 2025 budget consultations is a significant step in ensuring that Chipinge’s developmental needs are not ignored.

The organisation’s commitment to community-driven solutions continues to position it as a powerful voice for grassroots empowerment and accountability.

Another Geza-Styled War Vet Targeted

By Crime and Courts ReporterThe Joint Operations Command (JOC) has placed the leader of another faction of military veterans under surveillance, heightening concerns over state repression of dissenting voices.

Warriors Coach Optimistic Ahead of Benin Clash

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwe’s national football team, the Warriors, are gearing up to face Benin in a crucial 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Group C encounter this evening. Despite a slow start to the campaign, coach Michael Nees remains confident that his side can secure a positive result.

The match is set to take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa, with kick-off scheduled for 6 pm CAT. Zimbabwe currently sits at the bottom of Group C, having picked up just two points in their first four games.

However, Nees believes that his team has the potential to turn their fortunes around. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, he expressed his optimism, stating, “I think we can be confident and positive going into this match without being overconfident, with focus and concentration.”

Nees emphasized the importance of executing a solid game plan, saying, “If we bring our best into the match, we can be successful. It’s very simple. We have to throw in the best possible plan to get a win and reduce the gap.”

A win would be crucial for the Warriors, as a draw would do little to improve their current standing.

Benin currently tops Group C with seven points after four games, making this evening’s match a must-win for Zimbabwe.

Why You Need To Avoid Speeding . ..

Speeding is more than just a violation of traffic laws; it is a deadly risk that can change lives in an instant.

Each time you choose to drive above the speed limit, you are not only endangering yourself but also putting others at risk. Speeding kills, disables, and causes heartache, leaving behind broken families and shattered lives. It’s essential to understand the profound impact of your actions on the road and the ripple effect they can have on others.

One of the most tragic consequences of speeding is the loss of life. Car accidents are a leading cause of death worldwide, and speed is often a contributing factor. When drivers exceed the speed limit, they decrease their ability to react to sudden changes in road conditions, such as pedestrians crossing, animals running into the road, or other vehicles making unexpected movements. At higher speeds, the impact of a collision is much more severe, increasing the chances of fatalities or life-altering injuries.

The consequences extend far beyond the driver. A fatal or serious crash caused by speeding can leave children without parents, spouses without partners, and entire families grieving. Imagine the pain and suffering that your loved ones would endure if you were taken from them because of your reckless decision behind the wheel. Your family loves you and wants you to come home safely at the end of each day. They depend on you, and speeding compromises that promise.

Moreover, speeding can lead to long-term disabilities for both drivers and other road users. Survivors of high-speed crashes often face permanent injuries, which can affect their ability to work, care for their families, or live independently. These injuries are not just physical; they can also have a psychological toll, leading to trauma, depression, and a diminished quality of life. The emotional and financial burden of recovery falls not only on the individual but also on their family and community.

Respecting road laws and driving responsibly isn’t just about following rules; it’s about ensuring the safety of everyone on the road. There are countless other drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists sharing the same roads as you, and their lives are just as important. Your behavior behind the wheel affects them directly. Driving carefully and within speed limits is a basic way of showing respect for the lives and safety of others. By choosing to drive responsibly, you’re helping to create a safer, more considerate driving environment for everyone.

We all have a responsibility to ensure that our actions on the road do not harm others. Every life is precious, and the impact of speeding is far-reaching. It can change your life forever and leave scars on those around you. So, before you accelerate, take a moment to think about the consequences. Your loved ones, the people around you, and even strangers on the road depend on you making the right choice. Drive safely, follow the speed limits, and remember that speeding kills. It’s not just a statistic — it’s a reality we can all prevent.

Broke Government Fails to Pay Pensioners

By A Correspondent

The administration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa is facing increasing pressure as it struggles to settle outstanding payments owed to pensioners.

This issue was brought to the forefront by Mbizo Constituency Member of Parliament, Honourable Corban Madzivanyika, who criticized the government’s failure to meet its financial obligations to retirees.

On Wednesday, Hon. Madzivanyika highlighted the severity of the situation, calling it a “serious eyesore” for the country. In a statement, he called on both the Ministry of Finance and the Insurance and Pensions Commission (IPEC) to take urgent action. He said:

“The plight of our pensioners is a serious eyesore! The Ministry of Finance and IPEC must urgently expedite this process instead of dodging questions. Our old men and women deserve adequate compensation that corresponds to the blameworthiness of the government and pension companies to enjoy it while the sun still shines, according to the Justice Smith Commission report of 2015.”

Hon. Madzivanyika’s comments reflect the frustrations of pensioners who have long been waiting for compensation that reflects the value of their contributions over the years. Despite repeated calls for action, both pensioners and concerned citizens continue to face delays, leaving many elderly Zimbabweans in financial distress.

The Justice Smith Commission report of 2015 recommended measures to address the pensioners’ issues, yet little progress has been made since its release. The MP’s appeal to expedite the compensation process emphasizes the urgency of resolving the situation before it worsens.

Pensioners, many of whom rely on these funds for their daily survival, are left in a state of uncertainty as the government struggles with financial constraints. The failure to address this issue is exacerbating the sense of neglect felt by Zimbabwe’s retired citizens.

As the pressure mounts on the Mnangagwa administration, the need for swift action on pension payments becomes more critical. Without prompt intervention, pensioners are left to face a grim reality of inadequate financial support in their twilight years.

Mnangagwa’s Cash Donation to Warriors: A Blessing or a Curse?

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s $150,000 winning bonus for the Zimbabwe Warriors ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria has sparked debate. On one hand, the generous offer is a testament to the government’s commitment to national football and the team’s aspirations for World Cup qualification ¹. The bonus, which will be awarded to the players, technical team, and support staff for each victory, serves as a morale booster for the team.

However, some might argue that this donation could be a curse in disguise. With the team’s current ranking at sixth in Group C, the pressure to secure victories in both matches and claim the full $300,000 bonus might be overwhelming. This added pressure could potentially negatively impact the team’s performance.

Additionally, the timing of the donation raises questions. Is this a genuine attempt to support the team, or a political move to gain popularity? The fact that this amount is in addition to the $1 million already set aside by the government for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Finals adds to the skepticism.

Ultimately, only time will tell if Mnangagwa’s cash donation will prove to be a blessing or a curse for the Warriors.

Hip-hop Artist Holy Tears Into Uebert Angel: Aindikumbira Mababe

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean hip-hop artist Holy Ten has accused Uebert Angel, the country’s Ambassador-at-Large to Europe and the Americas, of inappropriate behavior and misconduct within his church.

In an explosive interview on DJ Ollah 7’s podcast, Holy Ten detailed troubling allegations, claiming that Angel repeatedly asked him to find young women for his personal pleasure.

Holy Ten further accused gospel musician Mudiwa Hood, a close associate of Angel, of bringing firearms and condoms into the church. The artist’s revelations paint a picture of significant disillusionment with Angel, who he once admired.

“I was first inspired to pray by Uebert Angel. I used to watch his sermons. But for him to turn into someone who asks me to find ‘slay queens’ was the worst thing ever,” Holy Ten shared during the podcast. The rapper revealed his shock and disappointment, stating that what was once an inspiration had now turned into a source of distress.

Holy Ten also recalled a disturbing incident during a visit to Angel’s church, where he alleges that Mudiwa Hood showed him a gun and then revealed a stash of condoms from his bag. “I swear I will never go back to that church again. You can even ask my crew. Those people are not who they claim to be,” he declared, expressing his deep frustration and disillusionment with the church’s leaders.

These allegations come two years after Uebert Angel was implicated in the Al Jazeera Gold Mafia documentary, which exposed illegal gold smuggling and money laundering schemes operating in Southern Africa. In the documentary, Angel was secretly recorded bragging about his ability to launder over US$1 billion, exploiting his diplomatic immunity.

Neither Uebert Angel nor Mudiwa Hood has publicly responded to Holy Ten’s accusations, leaving the allegations to circulate without comment from the accused. Nonetheless, the artist’s claims have sparked a significant public debate, with many calling for further investigations into Angel’s activities, both within his church and in relation to the allegations of financial misconduct.

Dejected Mnangagwa Launches Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme

By A Correspondent

In a move aimed at addressing rising discontent, President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched the Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme in Harare on Thursday morning, amidst increasing pressure from war veterans demanding his immediate resignation.

The war veterans, led by Blessed Geza “Bombshell,” have openly called for Mnangagwa’s resignation, accusing him of undermining the constitution. On Tuesday night, Geza urged citizens to stage protests against what he described as Mnangagwa’s efforts to subvert the country’s legal framework.

Despite the mounting political pressure, thousands of youths from across the country gathered at the Harare International Conference Centre to witness the launch of the much-anticipated Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme, where President Mnangagwa was expected to officially unveil the initiative.

The event saw a thunderous arrival of President Mnangagwa, with thousands of enthusiastic youth chanting slogans in his support. “2030 Ndeya Emmerson!!” and “Kutonga Kwaro Gamba Is Unstoppable 2030 Pfeee Gezaa Tsaa,” echoed through the venue as the president made his entrance, signaling the high expectations and enthusiasm surrounding the youth empowerment initiative.

Eight Critically Injured In DZ Blackspot Accident

By Crime and Courts, Reporter-Eight people have been critically injured in Wednesday’s deadly traffic in Dzivaresekwa that also claimed seven lives

Three cars collided, resulting in the accident.

A local witness, Hebert Karimazondo, who narrowly escaped the tragedy, has called on authorities to install speed humps to prevent further loss of life.
“I cannot believe I survived. I was supposed to be among the victims,” he said.
Karimazondo had chased after the speeding kombi in Dzivaresekwa, hoping to board, but the driver failed to notice him.
“When the accident happened, my neighbor, Mai Alice, called my name at the scene, thinking I was among the victims,” he added.
According to Karimazondo, the spot has become notorious for deadly crashes.
“This is the third fatal accident here in just five months. The traffic lights are not working, and drivers won’t slow down unless speed humps are installed.”
Eyewitnesses say a speeding UD truck, attempting to switch lanes, slammed into the kombi, which had reversed to pick up a passenger.
“A woman carrying day-old chicks was injured in the crash. Only one chick survived, while she was rushed to the hospital,” Karimazondo recounted.
Residents now fear more deaths if urgent action is not taken.

Bus Company Shuns Zim Roads Due To Inaccessibility

By A Correspondent

Likili Bus Company has raised serious concerns about the state of Zimbabwe’s roads, citing their poor condition as a major hindrance to operations.

As a result, the company has decided to adopt alternative routes to ensure the safety of its passengers and the protection of its property.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Likili Bus Company announced that it will no longer use the Chirundu border for its cross-border services due to deteriorating road conditions in Zimbabwe. The company also indicated that it would now be utilizing the Victoria Falls border as an alternative route.

The statement, directed at all cross-border clients, read:

“ATT: All CROSS BORDER CLIENTS
Be informed that all Likili Motors Buses from Johannesburg entry to Zambia will be using Vic Falls Border, we will avoid Chirundu Border until further notice.”

The bus company further clarified that the decision was motivated by concerns over road safety. The statement highlighted that poor road conditions on the Zimbabwean side of the border posed risks to both the company’s vehicles and passengers, prompting the management to find a safer route.

“This is due to some bad roads on the Zimbabwean side and in order to protect property and safety of our passengers,” the company added in the notice.

In light of these challenges, Likili Motors has taken proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted service for its clients while prioritizing the safety and well-being of passengers. While the company has not yet provided a timeline for the resumption of services via the Chirundu border, the current focus remains on safer alternatives for the foreseeable future.

The decision by Likili Motors underscores the growing concerns about the state of infrastructure in Zimbabwe, which has been under scrutiny for some time.

Road conditions in the country have long been a source of frustration for both local and international travelers, with poor maintenance and the wear and tear of major roads contributing to numerous accidents and delays.

Likili Motors’ move to bypass one of Zimbabwe’s key borders reflects a broader issue facing the country’s transportation sector, which has been struggling to maintain the infrastructure necessary to support a growing demand for road travel.

As Zimbabwe continues to grapple with these infrastructure challenges, the government’s response and potential solutions remain a critical aspect of the country’s ability to retain and attract cross-border businesses like Likili Bus Company.

Army Officially Takes Over Police Duties

ZIMBABWE POLICE COMMISSIONER CONFIRMS JOINT OPERATIONS COMMAND NOW CONTROLLING LAW ENFORCEMENT

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Harare, 20 March 2025 – In a stunning development, the Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba, has effectively confirmed that Zimbabwe’s law enforcement is no longer under the command of the police but has been ceded to the powerful Joint Operations Command (JOC).

In a formal letter dated 18 March 2025, addressed to “The Concerned Citizens of Zimbabwe” and referencing a planned nationwide peaceful demonstration scheduled for 20 March, Commissioner Mutamba discloses that his office has no mandate to regulate public gatherings under Zimbabwe’s Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (MOPA) [Chapter 11:23]. Crucially, Mutamba states that the notification for the protest was misdirected to him and should instead be addressed to the JOC, effectively acknowledging that the military-led body has taken over policing responsibilities.

Ordinarily, the police are part of JOC, and members of the public accesss JOC services through the police. But the relegation of responsibility to JOC as if the police are no longer of JOC is a message in itself, a sign posting by the police boss that there is now a new decision maker inside JOC.

LEGAL IMPLICATIONS

MOPA, enacted to govern public demonstrations and gatherings, grants regulatory powers to the police service. Yet, in this correspondence, Mutamba distances the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) from this role, subtly pointing to an extraordinary shift in the chain of command. Analysts say this is a tacit admission that the police force has been sidelined and that the JOC — traditionally a coordinating security body comprising army, intelligence, and police chiefs — is now the de facto law enforcement authority.

Stephen Mutamba

The Police Commissioner is communicating to the public that JOC no longer has full confidence in the police boss to conduct law enforcement.

”From now on JOC is reverting back into the hands of real Commanders of various State Security Organs, not some mere Kitchen porters like Owen Mudha Ncube

“That is why Cde Geza has boldly reappeared in military gear.

“What I am saying is that President Mnangagwa has lost control,” opinionated one Hosia Mviringi.

The letter by Commissioner Stephen Mutamba

Since taking office, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has worked to reduce JOC’s influence by centralizing power under the Presidency and parallel structures like Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) institutions. However, this letter reveals that the balance of power has now shifted back to JOC.

Notably, Commissioner Mutamba bypassed the police’s national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, opting to issue this critical communiqué himself, using official stationery typically reserved for internal processes like criminal background checks.

FALLOUT AND NEXT STEPS

With Mutamba’s tacit retreat and Blessed Geza’s re-emergence, observers suggest the JOC has decisively reasserted control over state security from illegal institutions like FAZ. This also explains the call for the swift release of detained journalist Blessed Mhlanga after alleged intervention by Cde Geza, suggesting Mutamba no longer controls arrests or releases.

JOC is now widely seen as the figure exercising real executive authority, while President Mnangagwa appears increasingly isolated.

NO LEADERSHIP VACUUM

Despite these dramatic developments, sources stress that Zimbabwe is not without leadership. The security establishment, led by the JOC, has moved swiftly to stabilize control under the constitution.

In summary, Zimbabwe has entered an unprecedented phase where the country’s top police officer has formally deferred to military authority, confirming what many had speculated — the army, through the JOC, is now running operations in order to protect the citizens during this state of uncertainty which is the constitutional role of the Defence Forces Of Zimbabwe regarding the national and territorial sovereignty.

Section 212 regarding the Function of Defence Forces, regulates as follows stating,

“The function of the Defence Forces is to protect Zimbabwe, its people, its national security and interests and its territorial integrity and to uphold this Constitution.”

Commenting, Dr Masimba Mavaza ZANU PF and a Political analyst disputed the editorial notion saying, “Commissioner General of Police Stephen Mutamba did not relegate or upgrade the authority to allow demonstrations to JOC. A clear reading of the letter by Stephen Mutamba shows clearly that he is applying direct response policy where he is directly responding to the letter which was directly submitted to his office. In his submissions in the letter, paragraph 2, Mutamba said, “Having perused the said correspondence, and particularly, noting that the author(s) intend to ‘notify the Joint Operations Command (JOC)’ of an intended ‘peaceful demonstration countrywide,’ I am certain that it has been misdirected to my office.” Mutamba acknowledges that the letter was sent to him in error as it was addressing the JOC. All that Mutamba is saying is that he cannot override JOC and thus it will be duplicity of work to give a decision where another power will sit to decide on the response. Thus, Mutamba’s response is not saying that the army is now responsible for such requests.

Furthermore, it would have been wrong for Mutamba to give a sweeping response on behalf of JOC. Once the letter indicates an expectation of a decision from a higher power, it becomes imperative that the authors of the letter be directed to the powers that be.

In short, there is no reason to panic or to doubt the police powers and duties based on Mutamba’s response.” – ZimEye

Six Robbers Gunned-Down In Feirce Police Shoot-Out

By Crime and Courts Reporter- Police have gunned down Six armed robbers in a shoot-out  near the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls toll gate.

According to the police, the suspects opened fire when detectives attempted to apprehend them, prompting officers to respond with force.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi reiterated the police’s commitment to combating armed robbery syndicates, warning that any confrontation by criminals would be met with appropriate force.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a shootout with six armed robbery suspects along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls toll gate between 2 AM and 4 AM,” said Comm Nyathi.

He revealed that the suspects had spent the previous day monitoring and drinking at Young Money General Dealer Shopin Insiza before launching their attack.

“The gang later pounced on two complainants, armed with pistols, knives, and axes. They tied their victims’ hands with electric cables, covered their faces with blankets, and demanded gold and cash,” he said.

The robbers ransacked the shop, making off with an undisclosed amount of money, groceries, a 48-volt lithium battery, an inverter, an amplifier, a nine-kilogram gas tank, and cell phones.

They loaded the stolen goods into a silver Honda Fit (registration AEY 4843) and fled.

One of the victims managed to alert their employer, who quickly reported the incident to the police.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as they continue their crackdown on armed robbery syndicates.

Why Do You Beatrice Mtetwa Appear Covering Up For Auxillia Mnangagwa?

Why not simply cease your services without inflicting additional harm on Marry Chiwenga?

Dear Ms. Beatrice Mtetwa,

I am forced to go public since you have not returned my calls since Saturday. I would not have taken this step otherwise, as I respect every lawyer. Yet, I am deeply disturbed to see Marry Chiwenga reduced to tears after you called her family and threatened to disconnect your legal services—simply because she answered my call after the Government/Ruling Party Spokesman exploited her name for financial gain. Why not simply cease your services without inflicting additional harm on her? Why demand that she behave more appropriately than trained CIO operatives like Auxillia Mnangagwa and others with whom I have spoken at length?

A clip from the video call last Sat evening (insert)

I must stress that I am not in competition with your services. Marry benefits from my free service, which draws on over 25 years of experience in risk management across various insurance companies. In light of this, why did you not candidly inform her that the courts are powerless in her case? Many lawyers utilize alternative strategies and methods to assist victims like her. Withholding these valuable options from a mother of five is both unacceptable and unjust.

Furthermore, why is it that you expect Marry to submit to your authority, and by extension to her oppressors, as a condition to earn your so-called “Permanent Stay of Prosecution” award? Who do you truly serve? Your disparate treatment of clients is perplexing. Yes Marry met me via phone, and your friend Hopewell went on to meet the Minister of Defence to corrupt/alter his decision making for Mnangagwa’s scheme of discrediting the VP. How come you never threatened Hopewell Chin’ono with disconnection when he approached the Minister of Defence to advise him that Marry and other civil society victims be hunted down to avoid tension? Is this your version of fairness?

The video of Marry in tears after your threat to disconnect services continues to haunt me. Had it not been for my intervention, how would the public have learned that Auxillia is now pressuring Marry to falsely accuse Constantino?

For six years you have charged exorbitant fees while hiding critical information from Marry—information that reveals her struggle as little more than a pawn in a power game between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga. When this all began, I reached out to those who hold real power: I contacted Chiwenga himself; then Mnangagwa—who now controls the very courts for which you charge Marry; followed by his wife, the First Lady Auxillia; and most recently, I spoke with Chris Mutsvangwa after his international outburst. Did you even consider calling Mutsvangwa when he resorted to using your client’s name to further his unscrupulous power play against Chiwenga? Why continue deceiving Marry by assuring her that she can win in courts that have been blatantly controlled for six years, all while facilitating baseless accusations—such as suggesting that Chiwenga decapitated his wife?

How can you justify charging Marry USD 100,000 for services that ultimately yield nothing while, over six years, you have been depleting her resources and compromising her well-being? Moreover, why did you withhold my video of Nyarai Bwanya—the very video captured after she lied under oath in an attempt to incriminate Marry? Does this not suggest that you are complicit with Mnangagwa, using Marry for financial gain?

Since you have declared your intention to disconnect your services, I urge you to do so today. I remain steadfast in supporting Marry’s plight and will rally Zimbabweans to assist her from this moment forward.

Hamba kahle!

Wilbert Mukori: Geza’s 31 March’s A 2017 Scam

indepth...Wilbert Mukori

By Wilbert Mukori | In 2017, the people of Zimbabwe responded to the call to come out into the streets in support of the 15 November military coup.

(I insist on calling it a military coup because it WAS a military coup. Forget the nonsense about it being “a military-assisted transition” — we cannot call a game of musical chairs a transition. As for the coup being “justified, legal, and constitutional,” that was just “bulls***t,” as Blessed Geza would say.)

indepth...Wilbert Mukori
indepth…Wilbert Mukori

Back to November 2017: Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends supported the coup out of greed. Chris Mutsvangwa promised Tsvangirai and company that the coup leaders would form a new GNU, similar to the 2008–2013 GNU. Tsvangirai discharged himself from his South African hospital bed, singing, “The good times are here again!”

The MDC leaders failed to implement even one token reform during the 2008–2013 GNU because they were too busy enjoying the gravy train lifestyle. Once they joined the GNU, Mugabe ensured that Tsvangirai & Co. were pampered with all the trappings of high office: E-Class Mercedes-Benz ministerial limousines, generous salaries and perks, a US$4 million mansion for Save himself, and so on. With their snouts deep in the feeding trough, they naturally forgot all about implementing reforms.

The November 2017 coup was a Mafia-style offer that MDC leaders were too greedy to refuse — so they took it.

The MDC leadership had no problem persuading their brain-dead followers to flood the streets in support of the coup. They told the mob that the new GNU would implement all the democratic reforms and finally stop Zanu PF from rigging elections. The mob believed it — no questions asked.

They never asked why the 2008–2013 GNU had failed to implement even one token reform. Had they asked, they would have quickly realized that if MDC leaders failed to implement reforms when Zanu PF was hamstrung by the 2008 Global Political Agreement — with SADC as guarantor — then this new GNU wouldn’t have a chance of implementing any meaningful reforms either. None!

To sugarcoat the bitter pill of a military coup, Mnangagwa assured the nation and the world that Zimbabwe would hold free, fair, and credible elections as soon as possible.

When Mugabe saw multitudes on the streets hugging and kissing the soldiers behind the coup, he knew the game was up. He signed his resignation letter as state president.

As soon as the coup leaders had Mugabe out of the way, they abandoned the promised GNU. Morgan Tsvangirai died a few weeks later “of a broken heart” at the betrayal of the GNU, according to Chamisa.

Mnangagwa did not implement even a single democratic reform before the 2018 elections. He and his Zanu PF cronies blatantly rigged both the 2018 and 2023 elections, confirming that Zimbabwe remained a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote-rigging thugs. The 2017 coup merely swapped one dictator, Mugabe, for another, Mnangagwa — but nothing else changed.

There is nothing — NOTHING — to make anyone believe that this so-called 31 March “uprising” Blessed Geza is calling for is anything but a repeat of the November 2017 military coup. This uprising seeks to replace one dictator, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, with another dictator, Constantino Guveya Chiwenga.

(Geza’s attempts to portray VP Chiwenga as anything but just another Zanu PF thug must be dismissed with the contempt they deserve. Chiwenga is corrupt, incompetent, and has played a key role in establishing and maintaining the Zanu PF one-party dictatorship, while claiming his lion’s share of the spoils. To say otherwise is an insult to our intelligence — and after 45 years of Zanu PF’s insults, we must put an end to the bulls***t!)

If the 31 March 2025 uprising is merely to replace one dictator with another, a repeat of the 2017 coup, then the people of Zimbabwe must stay away. An uprising that only serves to perpetuate dictatorship and prolong the people’s suffering — as the 2017 coup did — is not worth supporting.

It is sheer madness to keep supporting events whose purpose is to prolong your own suffering. If you cannot disrupt the event, as is the case here, then at the very least, do not be used and abused. Stay away.

Supreme Court Frees Top Harare Lawyer Admire Rubaya in Gold Theft Case

By A Correspondent | ZimEye| TOP Harare lawyer Admire Rubaya is now a free man after the Supreme Court cleared him from a criminal charge of gold theft, a case that also involved a Plumtree Magistrate, a prosecutor, and a police officer in charge.

Rubaya had represented one Jefat Chaganda before Plumtree regional magistrate Timeon Makunde, and Chaganda was acquitted of gold smuggling. Following this, the court ordered the return of the gold to Chaganda.

The State then charged everyone involved in the case, including Rubaya, the magistrate, and the prosecutor, with theft or alternatively, obstruction of justice.

Rubaya’s legal team, comprising Advocate Thabani Mpofu, Oliver Marwa, and Tymon Tabana excepted to the charges but did not find favourt with the High Court.

Through his lawyers Rubaya argued that this was an instance of victimizlsation within the legal profession, violating the attorney-client privilege.

“Legal professional privilege is an established principle of our law that goes to the root of a fair trial as entrenched by section 69 of the Constitution,” said the lawyers.

After the High Court’s decision, Rubaya filed the present appeal whichnwas heard by Supreme Court bench, including Justices George Chiweshe, Chinembiri Bhunu, and Hlekani Mwayera, accepting their arguments and exonerating Rubaya of any wrongdoing.

The Supreme Court also acquitted Magistrate Makunde.

In their appeal before the Supreme Court, Rubaya’s lawyers pointed out that the High Court had conceded that the charge against Rubaya was defective but still allowed the case to move forward, which they deemed a misdirection.

Mpofu contended that the acquittal of Chaganda had no bearing on Rubaya’s actions and insisted that whether the magistrate’s decision was correct was not something to be attributed to his client, especially since the decision still stands.

“In the instant case what is revealed is that appellant (Rubaya) represented an accused person who was acquitted, and that the court acquitting the appellant’s client also ordered the release of the gold.

“Whether or not it was competent for the Learned Magistrate to make such an order is irrelevant, as the conduct of the Magistrate is not imputable to the appellant and no basis has been alleged for taking that position,” the lawyer argued.

He further accused the State of attempting to unfairly prosecute his client and co-accused, ignoring legal principles.

Mpofu descrined the state as “clumsy” for trying to reason backwards in order to conclude that an offence or offences were committed.

“In other words, because the appellant made certain telephone calls or was seen with some of the accused persons after the acquittal of his client and after the Magistrate had ordered the release of gold then he must have connived to steal the gold or to defeat or obstruct the course of justice!

“With the greatest respect, the essential facts constituting the offence must be present at the time that the offence is committed and cannot be inferred from conduct post the event giving rise to the charge,” he said.

Mpofu added, “If anything, what seems to be alleged is that merely because the person accused of smuggling gold was acquitted and the Magistrate ordered the release of the gold, then everyone who interacted with the trial proceedings must be found to be guilty of the offences charged.

The lawyers contended that the judge erred by not recognizing that no offense was disclosed by the charges.

“The court a quo also erred in failing to decide the issue before it, namely, whether it was competent at law for the appellant to be required to account in criminal proceedings for a defense he had prosecuted on behalf of a client who still stood by the same defense and not renounced it.”

Be Warned : Speeding Kills

Time For Action Is Now : Geza

By A Correspondent

War veteran Blessed Geza has issued a stark warning to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, urging him to leave the country before it’s too late.

Geza, who made a public appearance in full military gear on Tuesday night, accused Mnangagwa of using his cronies to plunder the nation’s resources.

Geza’s statement, delivered with intense conviction, was as follows:

“I am your comrade, Blessed Geza. I am alive, I am safe, and I am in good health. Mnangagwa knows where I am, but it is he who is afraid to approach me. I am among the people, protected by the people because I act on their behalf. My wife was harassed, but as the wife of a soldier, she can handle it.

Fellow Zimbabweans, despite the growing alarm among war veterans and others about the corruption plaguing our politics and economy, Mnangagwa and his cronies remain unapologetic. They continue to plunder the country while the majority of Zimbabweans suffer in poverty. Just last month, Comrade Jealousy Mawarire exposed the POSB scandal on television. Yet, last week, his girlfriend, Virginia Mabhiza, was also implicated in the same saga.

We are deeply concerned about the arrest of journalist Blessed Mhlanga, as it seems an attempt to silence voices calling for democracy. We demand his immediate and unconditional release. Arresting journalists is a violation of the values we fought for during the liberation struggle.”

Geza continued his call for accountability, specifically addressing the judiciary, urging them to resist being used as tools by Mnangagwa’s regime.

He stressed, “Don’t be manipulated. You are oppressing the people. We fought for free speech, free assembly, and free association. You have jailed people like Timbas, Chibaya, and Sikhala. Justice Malaba, put your house in order, because we will come after you.”

Turning to issues of corruption, Geza highlighted the dire situation within the military, particularly regarding the AgriFora company, which he claimed is responsible for providing substandard food to Zimbabwe’s soldiers.

“Our soldiers are starving. They are being fed with food meant for pets, while millions are being funneled away by corrupt individuals like Chief Secretary Rushwaya and Willard Manungo. Mnangagwa’s cronies, like Kudakwashe Tagwirei, are taking over companies like ZIMASCO and POSB. We won’t stand by and let this happen.”

Geza did not hold back in his condemnation of Mnangagwa’s actions, adding, “Mnangagwa is using people like Tagwirei, Wicknell Chivayo, Scott Sakupwanya, and Tungwarara to further his corrupt agenda. We also know that Mnangagwa has given Scott Sakupwanya a contract to export gold, charging other companies 7% of the proceeds—depriving the government of much-needed revenue. Is this what we fought for? This is absolute nonsense.”

Geza also criticized figures like George Guvamatanga, accusing them of being complicit in the regime’s corrupt practices.

He added, “I’ve read articles where Patrick Chinamasa says I’ve been fired from Zanu PF. That’s a lie. Zanu PF is a product of both ZIPRA and ZANLA forces, and it’s a party that’s built on blood.

Instead, I am the one who fired Mnangagwa and his cronies from Zanu PF. They cannot fire me from an organization I don’t belong to.”

He issued an ominous warning to the people of Zimbabwe, saying, “If we don’t take action now, future generations will never forgive us. Mnangagwa’s reign will leave Zimbabwe a shell of its former self.”

The war veteran then shifted to discussing Zimbabwe’s military leadership, particularly Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, whom he praised as a “living hero.” Geza sharply criticized those attacking Chiwenga and his wife, Marry, and accused Mnangagwa of attempting to poison Chiwenga. “Mnangagwa was behind attempts to kill Chiwenga.

I have evidence from his own brother, Joseph Rera. Mnangagwa even told Rera that Chiwenga would return ‘as a coffin.’”

Geza also condemned individuals like Chris Mutsvangwa for their behavior and failure to defend Chiwenga’s honor. He noted, “Chris, you were arrested in 1976 for being accused of being a Muzorewa sympathizer, but now you’re attacking Chiwenga. This is a disgrace.”

In his final remarks, Geza addressed the Zimbabwean public, saying, “The time for action is now. We are planning a demonstration on March 31, and we call on all Zimbabweans to rise up. It is not just a demonstration—it is an uprising. We want Mnangagwa and his cronies out.

We will deal with the law enforcement agencies who try to stop us. Let everyone know that this is our right, as enshrined in the constitution.”

Geza concluded with a final plea: “Mnangagwa must go. He must leave now before it’s too late. Zimbabwe is on the verge of a major change, and it’s coming soon.”

Zanu PF Hardliners Maintain Mnangagwa To Rule Beyond 2028

By A Correspondent

Tensions are escalating within the ruling Zanu PF party as hardliners assert that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will remain in power beyond 2028, despite growing opposition.

The latest developments come amid calls from war veteran Blessed Geza for protests against Mnangagwa’s alleged attempts to bypass constitutional provisions.

Geza, who made a dramatic return to the public eye on Tuesday night dressed in full military gear, openly demanded the immediate resignation of President Mnangagwa.

The calls for Mnangagwa to step down have been met with resistance from party hardliners, who argue that the President is crucial to the country’s stability.

However, Zanu PF’s legal supremo, Patrick Chinamasa, is among those defending Mnangagwa’s extended tenure.

Chinamasa emphasized that the party will do everything in its power to ensure Mnangagwa remains in office for as long as possible.

“We will do all in our power to coax Mnangagwa to bow to the people’s demands,” a party source party said on Tuesday.

Despite the growing opposition, party officials have indicated that the movement to keep Mnangagwa in power is gaining momentum, especially among hardline factions within Zanu PF. These factions are reportedly using all available political and legal means to extend Mnangagwa’s rule, well beyond the current constitutional limits set for 2028.

As protests and internal party friction continue to escalate, the country is now at a crossroads, with calls for constitutional adherence being pitted against the ambitions of those seeking to secure Mnangagwa’s rule for another decade.

The political landscape remains tense, and it is unclear how these developments will play out in the coming months.

Editor Threatened Over Residents’ Leaders Story

By A Correspondent

Masvingo-Centre News Editor, Godfrey Mtimba, has been receiving threats from anonymous callers accusing his paper of reporting on a story involving local residents’ leaders. The leaders had taken legal action against illegal gold panners mining near Masvingo city’s water tanks, seeking an interdict to halt their activities.

The anonymous callers allegedly warned Mtimba to stop reporting on the issue, claiming it could endanger his life, as well as the safety of his reporters and family.

“Yes, I have been receiving calls from hidden numbers warning me to stop reporting on the water tank issue, or something very bad will happen,” Mtimba said. He added that his safety and security were now at risk, and he suspected that unidentified individuals might be following him.

The report highlighted concerns over potential human rights violations, particularly the right to life. It revealed that the miners are using dangerous chemicals such as cyanide, which could contaminate the water tanks and endanger human life.

The tanks supply water to about 100,000 residents in Masvingo city. There are also fears that the tanks could collapse and cause floods due to cracks that have developed from the miners’ use of explosives. The miners, who are allegedly backed by local and national political figures from the ruling government, are also accused of degrading the environment by leaving open pits and destroying vegetation.

The Masvingo Media Centre (MMC), a media rights advocacy group, has expressed concern over the threats, condemning the violations of press freedom and media rights.

“We are appalled by the continued threats against the editor of The Centre News. This is a direct attack on the free press and a violation of press freedom and media rights. We strongly condemn these cowardly acts and call for a thorough investigation,” MMC said in a statement.

Centre News has since engaged its legal team to file a formal police report, seeking an investigation into the callers. The same individuals have also been threatening the Masvingo United Residents and Rate Payers Alliance over the issue, after the residents’ group took the matter to the High Court.

Revealed: How ZRP Cop Shot Detective Cassandra Hove

By A Correspondent

ZRP Constable Nomore Muradzikwa, 37, appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Maxwell Ncube on Tuesday, facing a murder charge for fatally shooting Detective Constable Cassandra Hove during a police operation in Bulawayo’s Pumula Suburb.

Muradzikwa was part of a team pursuing armed robbery suspects on March 6, 2025.

Armed with a CZ pistol, he fired a shot at Fikile Ncube, 26, a robbery suspect, hitting him on the left elbow.

Tragically, the bullet ricocheted and struck Hove in the chest, killing her.

Initially, police reported that Hove was shot by armed robbers. However, in a shocking twist, Muradzikwa confessed to firing the fatal shot .

The reasons behind Muradzikwa’s involvement with the CID homicide team, particularly with the elite all-female Team Lozikeyi, remain unclear.

Muradzikwa was represented by Tinashe Tashaya of Sengweni Legal Services and was remanded in custody until April 1.

He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court .

Women’s Rights Group Condemns Harassment of Women During Vendor Crackdown

By A Correspondent

The Masvingo Women Rights Advocacy Group (MWRAG) has strongly condemned the intimidation, harassment, and sexual abuse of women by Masvingo City Municipal Police Officers and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) during the recent crackdown on vendors in Masvingo City. The wave of rights violations against women vendors has surged following a 48-hour ultimatum issued last week by Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe, ordering all local councils to clear vendors from the streets across Zimbabwe.

Since last Wednesday, MWRAG has recorded 16 cases of intimidation, harassment, and sexual assault against women vendors at various locations, including Croco Motors, N-Richards Hurudza, Downtown, Mucheke Rank, Sisk’s Chesvingo Drive, and other busy pick-up points. These incidents have been perpetrated by Municipal Police and law enforcement agents working together to remove vendors from the streets. Many women vendors have reported that their wares were taken violently and without warning.

Women, who are more vulnerable to violence in such situations, have borne the brunt of the crackdown. In contrast, male vendors often manage to resist arrest or flee with their goods, while women are more likely to be targeted.

MWRAG has called on the Masvingo City Council and law enforcement authorities to uphold the rights of vendors, particularly women, during this and future operations. The group also urged the council and government to prioritize women when allocating market stalls, ensuring that they are not forced to trade in undesignated and unsafe areas that expose them to further risks of intimidation, harassment, and violence.

Chivayo Withdrew Vital Security from Inlaws Home Before They Were Attacked By 20 Armed Robbers | Video

How One AK-47 Could Have Changed Everything at Wicknell Chivayo’s In-Laws’ Farm

Marondera, Zimbabwe – 18 March 2025

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye| In what might be a reminder of how quickly fortunes can turn, the daring armed robbery at Alpha Omega Farm — the homestead belonging to the in-laws of flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo — has left the nation stunned. While the headlines focus on the 20-strong gang that raided the farm at 1:00 AM on 18 March, it is the absence of a single weapon that could have altered the course of that night.

Video footage during Chivayo’s wedding captured by ZimEye reveal an armed security team, which was withdrawn after the high-profile wedding event hosted by the Chivayo InLaws . Among the weapons Chivayo took off-site was an AK-47 rifle — a firearm powerful enough to stand as a force multiplier in such a scenario.

Security experts suggest that a single AK-47, wielded by a trained guard, could have been a decisive deterrent against the 20 attackers, who were armed with a mix of rifles, pistols, machetes, bolt cutters, and iron bars. “It only takes one strategically placed AK-47 to hold off or even repel such a group, especially if the attackers are disorganized or reliant on close-quarter tactics,” one expert explained.

Without that firepower on site, the gang easily overwhelmed farm security, assaulted family members, and forced their way into the home. The thieves made away with USD 74,100 in cash, a pistol, multiple Samsung smartphones, and other valuables.

It is a weapon both feared and revered — a single AK-47 rifle. Across Africa and beyond, history is littered with moments when this iconic firearm has tilted the scales of survival against overwhelming odds. In Somalia’s Bakara Market, a lone shopkeeper famously held off a mob of nearly 30 looters during the 2011 food crisis, firing warning shots with his AK-47 until security forces arrived. In Nigeria’s volatile Middle Belt region, a single vigilante armed with the same rifle repelled 40 bandits attacking a farming community in 2020, forcing them into retreat. The weapon’s presence was also decisive during a 2017 robbery in Lusaka’s Chalala suburb, where a private guard used an AK-47 to fend off 25 heavily armed burglars, preventing what could have been a massacre. In South Africa’s Northern Cape in 2018, a lone farmer with an AK-47 stood his ground against a gang of 30 livestock thieves, wounding several and recovering stolen cattle. And in the Democratic Republic of Congo, militia groups have often found themselves at a disadvantage against even a single AK-47-wielding rival holding a fortified position.

Video of one of the security men that the businessman withdrew from his in-laws’ home-ZimEye

Yet, as chilling details emerge about last night’s robbery at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera — the homestead of businessman Wicknell Chivayo’s in-laws — one question looms large: could the withdrawal of a single AK-47 rifle days earlier have changed the entire outcome of the night?

Police Commissioner Nyathi confirmed in an official statement that investigations are ongoing and appealed to the public for information to bring the suspects to justice. However, behind the formal appeals, lingering questions remain: Why was the security detail withdrawn so soon after the wedding, and how different might the outcome have been if just one AK-47 had been left behind?

The attack has reignited debate about personal security at high-profile rural estates, especially those linked to influential figures. For now, Alpha Omega Farm stands as a stark example of how, in the absence of even a single rifle, an entire homestead can be left exposed to the terror of organized criminals.

BREAKING: Seven Killed In Dzivaresekwa Horror Accident

By Crime and Courts Reporter-Police have confirmed that seven people died in a fatal road accident in Dzivaresekwa early this morning.

In a statement on X, the police reported that the crash involved three vehicles—a Toyota Hiace kombi, a haulage truck, and a UD 70 truck.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Bulawayo Road and the Dzivaresekwa turn-off near Thuli Service Station.

“Seven people were killed, while eight others sustained injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that the kombi driver failed to yield at the traffic light-controlled junction, leading to the collision. More details will be released in due course,” police stated.

ZimEye first broke the story, speaking to eyewitnesses who described the devastating scene.

“An early morning collision between a commuter omnibus and a haulage truck along Bulawayo Road has resulted in multiple deaths and serious injuries,” an eyewitness told ZimEye.

Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads as investigations into the tragic accident continue.

LEAKED: War Vets Evicted From Worcestershire Farm By Owen Mudha

Worcestershire Farm War Veterans and Residents Resist Eviction Threats by Alleged Land Barons

Gweru, Midlands Province – 19 March 2025

Tensions are running high at Worcestershire Farm in Gweru Rural, Midlands Province, as over 80 families, including war veterans, village heads, and other long-time residents, face potential eviction by alleged land barons seeking to subdivide the farm for private development.

In a formal letter to ZimEye, the farm community has voiced alarm over a leaked document circulating on WhatsApp, which outlines plans to parcel out the 800-hectare farm into residential stands under the Munhumutapa Youth Housing Scheme. The community, who have occupied the land since 2000 as beneficiaries of Zimbabwe’s Land Resettlement Programme, claim that this move is an affront to their 25-year tenure and their legal rights as holders of official offer letters.

Owen Mudha Ncube

The leaked documents, allegedly originating from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, invite several government departments for a site visit, deepening concerns among residents about the potential endorsement of the scheme by state actors.

“This is not just land to us,” the residents wrote. “Our farm is home to war veterans, retired soldiers, the elderly, people with disabilities, school children, and other vulnerable groups. It holds graves of our elders and heroes, making it sacred ground.”

Despite reassurances from local MP Kwidini at a recent meeting that no evictions would take place, the community remains skeptical. Past attempts to dislodge them from the land have left them wary, prompting them to retain legal representation from Kanoti and Partners Legal Practitioners.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, community leaders say they have been subjected to intimidation. Village Head and community secretary, Mr. Svas Degwa, and War Veteran Chairman, Cde Everson Nyoni, allege they were threatened by individuals claiming to represent Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister, Owen “Mudha” Ncube.

One individual, identified as Mr. Cainos Nyandoro, alias Mujambajecha, reportedly told them to withdraw their legal case or face “serious consequences.”

“This is a blatant attempt to intimidate us,” the letter continues. “No one deserves to face threats, least of all our Village Heads and war veterans, who have dedicated their lives to serving this country.”

The community is demanding government intervention to stop what they describe as illegal land grabs by politically connected actors. They are calling for transparent engagement with relevant authorities and the protection of their rights as legitimate resettlement beneficiaries.

The Worcestershire Farm case highlights a growing concern across Zimbabwe’s rural landscape, where tensions between resettled farmers and developers continue to escalate. With over 1,000 livestock and vital community infrastructure like a recently launched diptank, residents say displacement would spell disaster for their livelihoods.

The residents are now urging both the Government of Zimbabwe and Zanu (PF) leadership to uphold the promises made during the 2000 land reform programme, fearing that, without swift action, they may soon be forcibly removed from land they have called home for nearly a quarter of a century.

Minister Owen Mudha Ncube did not respond to comment.

ZimEye will continue monitoring this developing story.

Mutsvangwa Final Letter

The ZANU PF Chairperson
Mashonaland West Province
Cde Mary Mliswa
Chinhoyi

20 March 2025

Dear Cde Mliswa

RE: Reminder to take Corrective Action Against Cde Chris Mutsvangwa

It is now a couple of days since Cde Mutsvangwa issued damning and defamatory statements against our Vice President and Second Secretary of the party, ZANU PF, Cde CDGN Chiwenga. Your silence regarding such gross misconduct points to impunity. We have a precedent where swift action was taken, but in this case there is lethargy. Whilst the Province recommended Cde Geza’s expulsion from ZANU PF, it was important, as a law of natural justice, to also call Cde Mutsvangwa to order.

I strongly feel that corrective action against Cde Mutsvangwa should be initiated and recommended by the Mashonaland West Province leadership. Failure to uphold the same procedure creates a narrative that, between our leaders, one is a darling to Mash West leaders and the other is not. It is also in the public domain that everyone criticised what Cde Mutsvangwa uttered about Retired Army General Cde Chiwenga, which was totally uncalled for, unjust, and defamatory.

The statements by Cde Mutsvangwa denigrating VP Chiwenga affect the reputation of the party and that of the First Secretary, Cde Mnangagwa. Cde Mutsvangwa is the Party Spokesperson, and everything that he says binds the party. As a concerned cadre, I believe such behaviour has a bearing which poses a security risk to both our party and our country.

The Politburo endorsed the expulsion of lower-level party cadres on social media abuse allegations. How about a senior member of the party in the capacity of Spokesperson?

I will continue to remind you to take corrective action against Cde Mutsvangwa every two days until you fulfil your duty and ensure justice within ZANU PF.

Yours Comradely,
Gifford Gomwe

War Vets Houses Shape Up Around The Country

By A Correspondent| Houses for war veterans are taking shape across the country, with several having been completed in urban areas to offer decent accommodation to stalwarts of the country’s liberation struggle.

The 3 bedroomed houses will also include a solar-powered borehole and will benefit thousands of people across the country under the newly launched Presidential War Veterans Rural Housing Scheme, which is geared towards complementing other schemes.

The programme is aimed at providing decent housing for war veterans while ensuring they benefit from solar energy schemes.

Special Presidential Investment Adviser Dr Paul Tungwarara, who implemented the hugely successful War Veterans Fund, said while the houses are bigger and a reflection of the role war veterans played in liberating the country.

“There were some uninformed and unfounded criticisms when the programme began, but the houses that you see now (in the picture) are the ones that war veterans will get, we have two plans, one for urban settings and another for rural areas,” said Dr Tungwarara.

War veterans are looking forward to the programme, as they are already reaping benefits from the Presidential War Veterans Fund that left no place and no place behind.

List of Items, Cash Robbed from Chivhayo’s In-Laws

By Showbiz Reporter-Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo has detailed the items and amount of money stolen when armed robbers raided his in-laws’ residence on Tuesday.

Initially, reports indicated that Chivhayo’s in-laws lost $75,000 in cash and valuables after robbers stormed their home at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera.

However, police investigations confirmed a total loss of $74,600.

Breakdown of the Robbery

According to official reports:

  • A gang of 20 armed robbers stormed the farm at approximately 1:00 AM on March 18, 2025.
  • The robbers were armed with three rifles, two pistols, two bolt cutters, machetes, and iron bars.
  • From the first bedroom, the robbers stole US$18,000 in cash, a pistol loaded with two rounds, and two cellphones.
  • From the second bedroom, they took a cellphone and US$1,100 in cash.
  • From the main bedroom safe, they made off with US$55,000 in cash.
  • The total value of the stolen items amounted to US$74,600.

Police Response

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, stating:

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at Alpha Omega Farm, Marondera, on 18th March 2025 at 0100 hours. Twenty suspects, who are yet to be identified, were armed with rifles, pistols, bolt-cutters, machetes, and iron bars. They overpowered the farm security personnel, assaulted family members, cut burglar screens, and forced entry into the house.

The robbers took away US$74,100 in cash, a pistol, a Samsung S24, a Samsung S23, and a Samsung Galaxy A35, among other valuables. The ZRP appeals to the public for information that could assist in identifying and arresting these suspects.”

The security personnel at the farm were caught off guard when one of the guards was ambushed and assaulted. The robbers then force-marched him to where other security guards were stationed, overpowering and disarming them before proceeding into the house to execute their looting spree.

Chivhayo’s Statement on the Robbery

Chivhayo, known for his extravagant lifestyle and deep political connections, took to social media to condemn the attack and announce a US$100,000 reward for any information leading to the robbers’ arrest.

“It is with UTMOST REGRET that I share a very UNFORTUNATE incident that occurred at my in-laws’ residence in Marondera during the early hours of 18th March 2025. According to information confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, a case of armed robbery is under investigation involving 20 suspects who UNLAWFULLY gained access to my in-laws’ residence at Alpha Omega Farm and stole a significant sum of MONEY and various valuable items.

I STRONGLY CONDEMN such cowardly criminal conduct and kindly request the public to cooperate with the police by providing any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of these offenders.

To support this PUBLIC effort, I am offering a reward of USD 100,000 in hard CASH to anyone who will provide CREDIBLE information leading to the positive IDENTIFICATION of ANY or ALL of these SHAMELESS robbers, their residential locations, or other significant particulars and ultimately their ARREST. This reward is offered on a NO QUESTIONS ASKED basis, provided any of the culprits are identified and apprehended.”

Chivhayo urged anyone with relevant information to contact CID Homicide, Harare, or other designated police officials.

A Lavish Lobola Ceremony

The robbery occurred just weeks after Chivhayo’s extravagant lobola payment, widely regarded as one of the most lavish in Zimbabwe’s history. Sources close to the family claim Chivhayo paid well over US$500,000 in cash, along with luxury vehicles, cattle, and other high-end gifts.

Videos from the ceremony showed Chivhayo dressed in designer outfits, flanked by an entourage of security personnel and business associates, as he showered his new in-laws with wealth. The event attracted top ZANU PF officials, socialites, and business tycoons, further fueling speculation about Chivhayo’s deep political connections.

A Life of Extravagance and Controversy

This incident adds to Chivhayo’s long history of high-profile moments and controversies. A self-proclaimed “money magnet,” he has previously:

  • Gifted luxury cars to ministers and government officials.
  • Displayed millions in cash on social media.
  • Made multi-million-dollar donations to political causes.
  • Thrown extravagant parties attended by celebrities and politicians.
  • Been implicated in controversial government tenders, including the infamous ZESA power deal, where he was accused of pocketing millions without delivering the contract.

Despite numerous legal challenges, including fraud allegations and accusations of benefiting from government corruption, Chivhayo remains a polarizing figure with strong ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Was It an Inside Job?

The robbery has raised serious questions about how the gang knew about the large sums of money stored at the farm. Given Chivhayo’s widely publicized lobola payments and recent financial activities, some analysts suspect an inside job, with an informant tipping off the robbers.

While police investigations continue, Chivhayo’s US$100,000 reward is expected to intensify the hunt for the culprits.

Mnangagwa Said Chiwenga “Must Return from China as a Coffin” – War Veteran Geza Alleges

Harare – March 19, 2025

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | A senior Zimbabwean war veteran, Comrade Blessed Geza, yesterday made explosive claims accusing President Emmerson Mnangagwa of orchestrating a sinister plot against Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga, stating that Mnangagwa allegedly told his own brother that Chiwenga “must come back from China as a coffin.”

In a hard-hitting address, Geza, who identifies as a founding liberation fighter and former ZANU PF member, accused Mnangagwa of poisoning General Chiwenga and harboring intentions to eliminate him physically and politically.

“Mnangagwa is 100% behind attempts to kill General Chiwenga,” Geza declared. “I have the evidence from Mnangagwa’s brother Joseph Rera. When Joseph asked Mnangagwa about Chiwenga, he said, ‘He is coming back as a coffin.’”

The remarks come amid escalating factional tensions within Zimbabwe’s ruling party and military elite, with Geza warning of an imminent nationwide uprising set for March 31.

Geza, who spoke from an undisclosed location, also accused Mnangagwa of undermining the legacy of the liberation struggle, labeling him as a “Rhodesian Special Branch agent” involved in the historical assassinations of prominent liberation figures such as Herbert Chitepo and Josiah Tongogara.

Corruption and Capture of the State

Geza’s fiery statement further charged Mnangagwa with presiding over unprecedented levels of corruption, accusing the President of using business cronies such as Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Scott Sakupwanya, and Wicknell Chivayo to loot state resources.

“Our soldiers are dying of hunger while pet food is served in barracks,” Geza said, citing AgriFora, a company linked to Chief Secretary Misheck Sibanda and others, for supplying substandard food to the military. “By the time Mnangagwa loses power, Zimbabwe will be a shell.”

Geza lambasted Mnangagwa’s inner circle for allegedly monopolizing key sectors of the economy, such as mining and banking, warning that “we didn’t go to war for you to get monopoly through corruption.”

Call for Mass Action

In a chilling warning to the government and judiciary, Geza called for mass mobilization across Zimbabwe.

“The signal is coming very soon,” he said. “We will no longer tolerate this betrayal of the liberation struggle. Mnangagwa must go, and he must go now.”

He called for all Zimbabweans—from Plumtree to Mutare—to take to the streets on March 31, referring to the action as an “uprising,” not a mere demonstration.

Threats to Judiciary and State Institutions

Geza also issued a stark warning to Zimbabwe’s judiciary, accusing Chief Justice Luke Malaba of turning the courts into instruments of oppression under Mnangagwa’s regime.

“You jailed Job Sikhala, you jailed the Timbas, the Chibayas, now you’ve arrested journalist Blessed Mhlanga. We will come after you,” Geza said.

Factional War and Chiwenga’s Safety

The war veteran, who describes Chiwenga as “our living hero,” condemned ongoing smear campaigns against the Vice President and his ex-wife Marry Mubaiwa.

Geza also denounced First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and other ZANU PF elites for allegedly weaponizing personal issues to discredit Chiwenga.

“You poisoned Chiwenga. Bullshit! When you fled in 2017, Mugabe said Chiwenga will save the country. And today you try to finish him?”

A Nation on Edge

Geza’s declaration has added fuel to Zimbabwe’s deepening political crisis. His claim that Mnangagwa is plotting to neutralize Chiwenga amid growing public unrest could escalate existing tensions within the military and ruling party.

As of this writing, there has been no official response from State House, the Ministry of Information, or President Mnangagwa’s spokesperson.

A Defining Moment

Geza closed his remarks by calling on security forces to refrain from suppressing demonstrators, warning that any acts of violence would be met with severe consequences.

“We want everyone in Zimbabwe to live well,” he said. “Mutamba [CIO Director-General], don’t you dare harm a single demonstrator.”

This developing story underscores growing fissures in Zimbabwe’s political landscape, raising serious questions about the stability of Mnangagwa’s leadership and the looming showdown on March 31.

President Mnangagwa was reached for comment.

Blessed Geza Speech- Transcript

ROUH TRANSCRIPT-

I am your comrade Blessed Geza. I am alive. I am very safe and in good health. Mnangagwa knows where I am. It’s him who he is afraid of approaching me. I am here among the people I’m being protected by the people because I do the wishes of the people. My wife was harassed but as the wife of a soldier, she can handle (sic). Well, fellow Zimbabweans, despite war veterans and other war veterans are raising alarm all our politics and the economy are characterised by corruption; We have realised that Mnangagwa and his cronies are unapologetic. They continue to plunder the country while the major majority of Zimbabweans wallow in absolute poverty. Last month, Comrade Jealousy Mawarire, Save, was on television exposing the POSB, but last last week his girlfriend Virginia Mabhiza… we have everything that is happening in the POSB saga. We are worried by the arrest of Journalist Blessed Mhlanga, we see it as an attempt to silence democratic voices. We order the unconditional and immediate release of Mhlanga. Arrests of journalists violate the values of the liberation struggle.

We want to tell the judiciary, we are warning you, this has been going on for a long time. Don’t be used as a tool by Emmerson. You are oppressing people. We fought to have the right to free speech, free assembly and free association. So you, people of the judiciary… It didn’t start on Mhlanga, the Timbas and the Chibaya’s, and the Sikhala’s you jailed them. Justice Malaba put your house in order. We will come after you. Fellow Zimbabweans; corruption in Zimbabwe has become a norm; right now we have a company called AgriFora, to supply food to the barracks. Unfortunately as we speak, our soldiers are dying of hunger. They are being fed, content (sic) used to make pet foods. They don’t have meat, yet the country is forking money every month. The company is fronted by Chief Secretary Rushwaya, and Willard Manungo sons. Mnangagwa has put his Chiganandas. He is privatising companies. Companies have been taken away by Kudakwashe Tagwirei. Now ZIMASCO, POSB have prime targets. Tagwirei we are warning you. We didn’t go to the war for you to get monopoly through corruption. We are going to deal with you.

By the time Mnangagwa loses power Zimbabwe will be a shell. Future generations will not forgive us if we don’t take action. Mnangagwa is using Tagwirei, Wicknell Chivayo, Scott Sakupwanya, and Tungwarara.

All this will come to an end mark my words. We also know fhaf Mnangagwa has given Scott Sakupwanya a contract to export gold. He is now charging other companies 7% of the proceeds. This deprives government the revenue. You attack vendors. Is this what we fought for? No no no. This is totally bull shit. All these corrupt deals are enabled by George Guvamatanga. Shall we go to the war? You become successful to buy girlfriends properties? All over the world there are properties of your girlfriends. We are going to deal with you very soon. We know you are buying properties. I’ve read newspaper articles where Patrick Chinamasa announces that I have been fired form ZANU PF. That’s bullshit. I told you that ZANU PF is a product of ZIPRA and ZANLA forces. ZANU PF is a party of blood. Instead I actually fired Mnangagwa and his cronies from ZANU PF.

The true ZANU PF I fired them from it. You cannot fire me from an organisation that I don’t belong to. That is why I offered Mnangagwa to leave.

Fellow Zimbabweans the situation has become too much. Our grandchildren will never forgive us if we don’t remove these charlatans.
As I promised a signal is coming very soon . The delay was a result of the efforts to ensure the safety of everyone else. Mnangagwa must just go and just go now.

There are other things that I have left that I will now speak in Shona to those who do not speak English. I thought I should speak in the Mother tongue. I shall start with the matters relating General Chiwenga. General Chiwenga is our commander. He is our leader as Zimbabweans. His history is known by all Zimbabweans, especially us war veterans. He is our living hero, and he is our leader. We will die with him. It is a disgrace that Chris Mutsvangwa, you leave your wife being insulted that she is a prostitute. Why don’t you control them? You are now talking about Marry, will you help her?

Mnangagwa when did he come to the war? Was he not at Dumbuchena’s office?

You, Chris and Chinomona, stop what you’re doing. Let’s respect our commanders. And it’s not only General Chiwenga.

You, Chris when you were arrested in 1976 accused of being Muzorewa- who talked of it?

General Chiwenga isn’t the first to be separated from his wife. You know what happened, who wanted to kill General Chiwenga. Mnangagwa was 100% behind attempts to kill General Chiwenga. I have the evidence from Mnangagwa’s brother Joseph Rera. You told Joseph Rera when he asked you about Gen Chiwenga and you said he I coming back as a coffin. You poisoned Chiwenga, bull shit. Now when Marry fell ill, she spoke with your wife asking for help. Your wife said it’s a family affair, but you’re now trying to say she needs help. Your wife is calling Maddy we have the records from Econet. Your wife and Pokello, July Moyo you’re a disgrace we will deal with you, deceiving Marry that she was decapifated by General Chiwenga. We will not allow you to accuse our leader. We are going to deal with you decisivel. All medical bills are being paid by General Chiwenga. You never talk of that. Why don’t you speak of? Where did you see General Chiwenga with machetes? It is being done by doctors. So what do you want Chiwenga to do?

We are planning demonstrations and women are asking us what to do with these mad people. You, Chinomona comrades have always questioned your behaviour that you were sent by the Special Branch. What did Chiwenga do to you? You are you going out to fight your own commander. Garwe was a Selous Scout is the one who’s now saying Pasi na Chiwenga. We will definitely deal with you. Mutsvangwa stop what you’re doing, deal with the Temba Mliswa’s. Protect your wife. Go fight those men and say my wife is being said she cheat. Your mouth needs a napkin.

Mnangagwa you were deployed by the Rhodesia Special Branch. We now have evidence you participated at Chitepo’s death, at Tongogaras death, and you’ve killed all the generals. Your behaviour is of hatred. The way you hate ZANU PF bothers to the point that you have a hand in the poisoning of General Chiwenga. You are not ashamed you poison someone who saved you. When you fled, Mugabe said Chiwenga I am comfortable to leave you the country and Chiwenga refused and today he is the person you are doing this? You were deployed by the Special branch so we are you going to deal with you. So Zimbabweans the signal is near. We are now bringing the signal. It is near. We know Mnangagwa wants to declare a State Of Emergency he is playing. He doesn’t know what we can do. We have heard Mutsvangwa saying this and this, South Africa is a leader, that is bullshit. We as Zimbabweans we will deal with our issues. We will deal with our issues. We have talked with the all political players the Chamisa’s, the Biti’s, Sikhalas, we agreed with the way forward and all these people there is no one who hates General Chiwenga. We are now beginning to wonder why you hate your own boss. So the signal is coming and it is coming very soon. We act as trained people. The family of Zimbabwe, 31 March; this is Comrade Bombshell speaking. We are asking you all from Plumtree, in fact it isn’t a demonstration, it is an uprising. Everyone must go into the street. The spy Mnangagwa must go with his cronies. To those who can assist, the kombis and buses please help the people. Your businesses are struggling. Please come out all of you and support 32 March. We want people to go. To law enforcement agencies, what we ask you young man Mutamba you sent me Homicide boys with AK rifle to kill me on sight. What is my fault? My fault is to make you all and your men comfortable. Why? Behave Mutamba. I don’t want to hear of any demonstrator who gets hurt or injured.

The jail you will end in, you won’t come out Mutamba. Mark my words. Let people demonstrate because it is in the constitition. We want everyone in Zimbabwe to live well. If you’re clever people and your CIOs; run in a hurry because people are furious. Advise Mnangagwa to leave the country and exit power in a hurry. I have finished.

Mnangagwa’s Useless Independent Complaints Commission Continues To Waste State Cash Doing Nothing

By A Correspondent

The Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission (ZICC), established to address human rights violations by security services, is set to expand its operations to the provincial level in an effort to fulfill its mandate nationwide. However, critics argue that despite its establishment under the 2013 Constitution, the commission has yet to make a meaningful impact, leading to concerns over its continued misuse of state resources.

ZICC’s Chairperson, Justice Nicholas Chinamora, spoke to state media during the commission’s inaugural strategic review meeting in Darwendale on Monday. He emphasized the commission’s goal of tackling human rights abuses, particularly those carried out by members of the security services, which have long been ignored.

“ZICC was established by the 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe, specifically Section 210. Its key mandate is to address human rights violations perpetrated by members of the security services, which had been swept under the carpet,” said Justice Chinamora. “The commission aims to provide an effective and independent mechanism for receiving and investigating complaints from the public. We are therefore meeting with some of the key stakeholders to deliberate on a strategy that enables us to effectively carry out this obligation in line with the National Development Strategy 1.”

While the commission talks about broad plans and strategies, such statements are starting to sound hollow as there has been no concrete action or results to show for the millions of dollars allocated to it. Justice Chinamora further disclosed that efforts are underway to recruit staff for the commission, including a substantive executive secretary, investigators, and provincial and district officers.

Yet, the question remains: why has this commission, along with others like the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), Zimbabwe Gender Commission, and Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, failed to make a significant difference in the lives of ordinary citizens?

Despite their constitutional mandate to ensure good governance, these commissions continue to face criticism for their lack of effectiveness and, in the case of ZICC, their apparent failure to meet the expectations of Zimbabweans. The lack of tangible outcomes has led many to question whether these commissions are simply draining state resources without delivering any real benefit to the public.

Sad: OK Zimbabwe Closes Four Branches in Harare Amid Economic Crisis

By A Correspondent

OK Zimbabwe, one of the country’s leading retail outlets, has confirmed the closure of four of its branches in Harare, a move that has resulted in the loss of jobs for 56 employees.

The closure marks another troubling chapter in the ongoing economic crisis that continues to affect both businesses and individuals across Zimbabwe.

This latest development has drawn significant attention as it coincides with Parliament launching a nationwide probe into the growing trend of formal retail shop closures, a situation that has exacerbated the country’s economic difficulties.

The decision to close the branches is being attributed to the harsh economic climate that has made it increasingly difficult for businesses to remain viable. The continued inflationary pressures, rising costs, and a lack of liquidity in the economy are straining the ability of retail outlets to operate efficiently.

OK Zimbabwe, which has long been a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s retail sector, has struggled to keep up with the challenges posed by the economic downturn. The company’s closure of branches in Harare has left many wondering about the broader implications for the country’s retail sector.

The 56 employees affected by the closures will now face an uncertain future, adding to the growing concerns about job losses in various sectors as businesses are forced to downsize or close. This trend is increasingly worrying, especially as more companies, particularly in the retail and manufacturing sectors, grapple with the harsh realities of Zimbabwe’s economic challenges.

Parliament’s investigation into the closure of formal retail shops underscores the critical impact these closures are having on the country’s economy. With unemployment rates already high and the informal sector growing at an alarming rate, the loss of formal retail outlets like OK Zimbabwe could have long-term consequences for economic recovery and growth.

The closure of OK Zimbabwe’s branches serves as a stark reminder of the pervasive economic difficulties facing the nation, and highlights the urgent need for comprehensive solutions to address Zimbabwe’s economic woes. As businesses like OK Zimbabwe struggle to survive, the broader question remains: what can be done to turn the tide and prevent more retail closures that contribute to the country’s deepening economic crisis?

Fresh Details In Chivhayo Lavish Lobola Robbery

By Showbiz Reporter- Social media is awash with speculation that the robbers who Early Tuesday raided Wicknell Chivhayo’s in-laws’ residence and made off with $75,000 in cash and valuables could be the controversial businessman’s friends.

Chivayo, known for his ostentatious displays of wealth and deep political ties, had recently paid lobola for his wife, Lulu Muteke, in a lavish ceremony that drew Zimbabwe’s elite, including prominent socialites, business tycoons, and senior government officials.

The armed robbery, which police say involved a gang of 20 criminals, took place at the Alpha and Omega Farm, a property linked to Chivayo’s in-laws.

The robbers reportedly overpowered security before making off with a substantial sum of money, sparking speculation that the attack may have been an inside job, given the high-profile nature of the transactions that had taken place at the farm.

Chivayo’s Statement on the Robbery

In response to the incident, Chivayo took to social media to condemn the robbery and announce a reward for any information that could lead to the culprits’ arrest:

“It is with UTMOST REGRET that I share a very UNFORTUNATE incident that occurred at my in-laws’ residence in Marondera during the early hours of this morning, 18th March 2025. According to information confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, a case of armed robbery is under investigation involving 20 suspects who UNLAWFULLY gained access to my in-law’s residence at Alpha and Omega Farm and stole a significant sum of MONEY and various valuable items. I STRONGLY CONDEMN such cowardly criminal conduct and kindly request the public to cooperate with the police by providing any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of these offenders.”

“To support this PUBLIC effort, I am offering a reward of USD 100,000 in hard CASH to anyone who will provide CREDIBLE information leading to the positive IDENTIFICATION of ANY or ALL of these SHAMELESS robbers, their residential locations, or other significant particulars and ultimately their ARREST. This reward is offered on a NO QUESTIONS ASKED basis, provided any of the culprits are identified and apprehended.”

He urged anyone with information to contact the CID Homicide, Harare, or other listed police officials.

A Lobola Fit for Royalty

The robbery comes just weeks after Chivayo’s headline-grabbing lobola payment, which was widely regarded as one of the most extravagant in Zimbabwe’s history.

Sources close to the family claim that Chivayo paid well over $500,000 in cash, alongside luxury vehicles, cattle, and an assortment of high-end gifts.

Videos from the event showed Chivayo in his signature designer outfits, flanked by an entourage of security personnel and business associates, as he splashed out on his new in-laws in typical flamboyant style.

The event attracted top ZANU PF officials, further fueling speculation about Chivayo’s close ties to the ruling party.

A Life of Extravagance and Controversy

This incident is just the latest in a long list of headline-making moments for Chivayo, who has built a reputation as Zimbabwe’s most flashy and polarizing businessman.

A self-proclaimed “money magnet,” Chivayo has previously:

  • Gifted luxury cars to ministers and government officials
  • Showcased millions in cash on social media
  • Made multi-million-dollar donations to political causes
  • Thrown extravagant parties with celebrities and politicians
  • Been linked to questionable government tenders, including the infamous ZESA power deal, where he was accused of pocketing millions without delivering on the contract

Despite his larger-than-life persona, Chivayo has faced legal troubles, including fraud allegations and accusations of benefiting from government corruption. His close ties to ZANU PF heavyweights, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, have made him an influential yet divisive figure.

Did Insiders Leak Information About the Money?

The daring robbery has raised serious questions about how the criminals knew about the large sums of money at the farm. Given the scale of Chivayo’s lobola payments and his widely publicized spending spree, some analysts suggest the robbery may have been an inside job, with someone tipping off the gang about the cash stored at the residence.

While police investigations are ongoing, Chivayo’s $100,000 reward is expected to intensify the search for the robbers.

Six Armed Robbers Killed in Bulawayo Shootout

By A Correspondent

In a dramatic turn of events on March 18, 2025, six armed robbery suspects met their end following a shootout with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) near the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road tollgate.

The suspects had spent the previous day surveilling the Young Money General Dealer Shop in Insuza, where they consumed alcohol and observed the shop’s activities. Later that evening, they launched an attack on two individuals at the shop, binding their hands with electric cables, covering their faces with blankets, and demanding gold and cash. The assailants ransacked the premises, seizing an undisclosed sum of money, groceries, a 48-volt lithium battery, an inverter, an amplifier, a nine-kilogram gas tank, and several cellphones. They loaded these items into a silver Honda Fit (registration number AEY 4843) and fled the scene.

Acting on a tip-off, detectives spotted the suspects’ vehicle traveling toward the tollgate in the early hours of the morning. When ordered to stop, the suspects instead opened fire, leading to a shootout during which they collided with the tollgate’s boom gate. The suspects were apprehended and transported to the United Bulawayo Hospitals but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities recovered two pistols with live rounds, two gas-operated stoves, two knives, an axe, and some of the stolen property, including groceries, a lithium battery, an inverter, a gas tank, and an amplifier.

The ZRP has reiterated its commitment to combating armed robbery syndicates and assures the public that any confrontations with criminals will be met with appropriate measures. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspects were involved in other criminal activities.

The ZRP urges businesses and residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement. This incident underscores the importance of community cooperation in ensuring public safety and security.

Chivhayo Speaks On Lavish Lobola Robbery

By Showbiz Reporter– Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has offered a staggering $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of robbers who raided his in-laws’ residence in Marondera in the early hours of Tuesday, March 18, 2025, and made off with $75,000 in cash and valuables.

Benin coach Gernot Rohr has outlined his objectives ahead of their upcoming match against Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Group C fixture.

The Warriors will face the West Africans at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Thursday, with kick-off scheduled for 6 pm CAT.

In his pre-match comments, Rohr expressed his desire for his team to continue their strong performance in the campaign as they take on Zimbabwe.

With seven points from four matches, Benin are currently level on points with Group C leaders Rwanda.

“It’s quite surprising that we (Benin), Rwanda, and South Africa are the leaders after the first four rounds in this competitive Group C,” Rohr told Nation Sports.

“We won our last two matches in Abidjan, and now we’re heading into an away match against Zimbabwe in Durban, followed by another away game against South Africa in Abidjan.

Court Postpones Trial Of Pro-Democracy Campaigners For Disorderly Conduct

By A Correspondent| The trial of some prominent pro-democracy campaigners, who were seized from a plane in Harare last year and tortured before being prosecuted on charges of disorderly conduct in a public place, has been postponed to 27 March 2025 as one of the accused persons was not available.

The nine who include prominent pro-democracy campaigners namely Namatai Kwekweza, Robson Chere, Samuel Gwenzi, Emmanuel Sitima, Phillies Pikitayi, Dephine Gutsa, Simbarashe Blackson, Last Chinodya and Vusumuzi Moyo, are on trial at Harare Magistrates Court answering to charges of disorderly conduct in a public place as defined in section 41(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

The nine, who were arrested in July last year, are accused of allegedly participating in an unsanctioned demonstration reportedly held at Harare Magistrates Court in June 2024, where they reportedly protested against the detention of Citizens Coalition for Change political party leader Jameson Timba and some of the opposition party members and demanding their release from prison.

On Monday 17 March 2025, the trial of the nine persons could not proceed as Moyo was reportedly out of the country and could not make it on time to stand trial with his co-accused persons and hence proceedings were postponed to 27 March 2025.

Jeremiah Bamu, Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Kelvin Kabaya of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, are representing the accused persons.

Warriors Ready To Face Benin

Khama Billiat has shared his thoughts on Knowledge Musona’s return to the Warriors squad ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Group C matches against Benin and Nigeria this week.

Musona made a return to the national team after ending his international retirement, having initially stepped down in May 2022 to focus on his club career and allow younger players a chance to shine. However, coach Michael Nees successfully persuaded him to come back, and the forward is now rejoining the team.

Billiat believes Musona’s wealth of experience will be a valuable asset to the squad.

“Having Knowledge back, with all his experience, is a huge motivation,” Billiat told ZBC News before the Warriors’ departure for Durban, South Africa on Sunday afternoon. “We’ve worked together in the past, and it feels amazing to have him back. It’s been a long wait, and now he’s finally here. We really need his experience, and it will add a lot to the team. He’s a great leader, and his presence will surely be a big motivation for all of us.”

Discussing the Warriors’ chances in the upcoming games, Billiat said: “We’re taking each match one step at a time, focusing on doing our best. The first one is in South Africa against Benin, so that’s where our focus is right now.”

The Warriors will host Benin at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Thursday, before traveling to Uyo, Nigeria, to face the Super Eagles on Monday.

R124 000 fraud trial resumes as more key witnesses testify

By A Correspondent| The trial of a Harare man Michael Smith, accused of defrauding MA Auto Suppliers trading as Mr Cruiser of at least US$38 000 and R124 000 resumed.

The State prosecutor Mr Anesu Chirenje has led testimony from two key witnesses.

Smith faces multiple charges, including two counts of theft of trust property, 12 counts of fraud, and 25 counts of corruptly concealing transactions from his principal, represented by Mr Michael Scott Asher, before Harare Magistrate Mrs Ethel Chichera.

The first witness, Sophia Mupariwa, a Customer Service Adviser at MA Auto Suppliers, testified about her former boss, Michael Gordon Smith.

Her responsibilities include attending to customer inquiries, receiving and booking in customer vehicles and inspecting vehicles and generating quotations and job cards among other things.

Mupariwa stated that from 2020 to 2022, Smith was employed as a director, overseeing daily operations.

During this time, several vehicles owned by Smith, his family, and friends were serviced at the company.

She alleged that Smith frequently ordered the release of these vehicles either without full payment or after partial payments, despite the company providing labor and parts for the services.

For instance in one case, a client with a Land Cruiser 100 Series was charged US$1 680 for seat covers but only paid US$850, leaving a loss of US$830 to the company.

On another occasion, Smith brought in his son’s Prado J95 for repairs costing US$1 378.46 but paid only US$600, leaving a balance of US$778.46 unpaid.

The second witness, Christine Vellah, Finance and Administration Manager at MA Auto Suppliers, detailed her role in maintaining financial records and ensuring fiscal compliance.

She testified that Smith managed company cash and would provide her with payment schedules, making it difficult for her to reconcile accounts due to incomplete information.

Vellah revealed troubling practices involving a company called Mant Procurement, in which Smith held a 50% stake.

This company allegedly siphoned money from MA Auto Suppliers without providing legitimate services.

For example, she noted an independent runner charged only 15% for transportation, but Smith inflated costs, hiding invoices to justify higher charges, leading to a loss exceeding R100 000.

Vellah recounted several other instances of alleged fraud.

On 9 November 2020, Smith received a US$10,000 loan from Cruiser Bond (Pvt) Ltd without informing her, resulting in the company having to repay the full amount without any record of its use.

In a sale of a Toyota Land Cruiser 78 series for US$13 000, only US$5 000 was recorded in company accounts, with Smith pocketing the rest.

Additionally, Smith reportedly took company property, including chairs valued at R4 786 and a 95-liter fridge, without ever making payment.

Vellah highlighted another instance where Smith instructed her to pay ZW$295 200 for fees related to a jointly operated boat, despite the company only being liable for ZW$88 250.

The remainder was Smith’s personal responsibility, which he never repaid.

Prosecutor Chirenje through Vellah tendered documentary evidence relating cash records , invoices, emails and bank statements that inscriminate the accused largely relating to count 1 to14.

Defence counsel Mr Takudzwa Nyambira raised an objecting arguing that some of the schedules which the witness was testifying to were not in order.
He also said he did not have some of the schedules thay were being refered to by witness but Mr Chirenje said it was not the duty of the State to put them in order since he served him with all the documents.

Mr Nyambira then consented to the admission of the said documents into the record.

The trial will continue on Monday, with Vellah testifying.

Effects Of Reckless Driving…

Police Confirm Armed Robbery Attack at Wicknell Chivayo’s In-Laws’ Farm

Marondera, Zimbabwe – 18 March 2025.

https://x.com/zimeye/status/1902004643661565994?s=46

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have confirmed a brazen armed robbery at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera, believed to belong to the in-laws of controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

According to a press statement released today by the police, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning at around 1:00 AM, when a gang of approximately 20 armed suspects stormed the property. The suspects, who are still at large, were reportedly armed with rifles, pistols, bolt cutters, machetes, and iron bars.

ZRP revealed that the attackers overpowered security personnel at the farm before proceeding to assault family members, cutting burglar screens and forcing their way into the family home. The gang made off with USD 74,100 in cash, a firearm, and several high-end mobile devices, including Samsung S24 and S23 models, as well as a Samsung Galaxy A35.

The police have launched a full-scale investigation and are appealing to members of the public for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects.

In a statement signed by Commissioner Nyathi P., Chief Staff Officer for Press and Public Relations, the ZRP urged anyone with relevant information to contact the National Complaints Desk at 0242 703631 or via WhatsApp at 0712 800 197.

The incident is likely to draw significant public attention due to its link to Chivayo’s family and the scale of the attack.

Further updates will follow as the situation develops.

Mystery Over Theft Of Chivayo Lobola Cash

By A Correspondent

In a dramatic turn of events, a significant sum of US$75,000, believed to be part of the lobola money paid by controversial tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo for his wife Lulu Muteke, was stolen in a daring raid on Tuesday morning.

The theft occurred at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera, where up to 19 armed gunmen reportedly stormed the property in the dead of night, according to ZimLive.

The robbery comes just days after Chivayo made headlines by paying a hefty lobola amount for Lulu Muteke. It is believed that Chivayo paid over US$100,000 in total for the lobola, a traditional bride price, but a portion of the money, specifically US$75,000, was reportedly taken during the raid.

The amount was allegedly in cash and was meant to be part of the formal lobola agreement between Chivayo and Muteke’s family.

Witnesses claim the gunmen were heavily armed and managed to overpower those at the farm, making off with the substantial sum before fleeing the scene. Authorities were alerted shortly after the raid, and police have since launched an investigation into the theft.

Chivayo, known for his controversial business dealings, made headlines last week after he reportedly paid the large lobola sum to Lulu’s parents, which stirred public conversation about the lavish amount involved in a traditional custom. While the theft has raised questions, sources close to the family have not confirmed whether the stolen cash was solely part of the lobola payment or included other financial arrangements.

The police are actively pursuing leads, and it is expected that the robbery will add fuel to the ongoing debate surrounding Chivayo’s business dealings and personal life. However, at this stage, the focus remains on recovering the stolen money and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

As the investigation continues, the theft has left many questioning the audacity of the criminals involved and the high-profile nature of the incident, given Chivayo’s prominence in Zimbabwe’s business and social circles.

Mnangagwa’s Independent Complaints Commission Blows State Cash While Doing Nothing

OK Zimbabwe Offloads 56 Workers Amid Economic Crisis

Zanu PF Uses State Cash to Build Expensive Party Offices in Masvingo

By A Correspondent

In a move that has raised eyebrows, the ruling Zanu PF party is reportedly using state funds to construct lavish party offices in Masvingo, a project that critics argue is being funded at the expense of struggling citizens.

Sources within the party have claimed that money has been coerced from government departments to fund the construction, sparking outrage over the misuse of public resources.

According to party insiders, the project in Masvingo, which includes the building of expansive and state-of-the-art offices, is expected to be completed by December this year. This comes at a time when many Zimbabweans are grappling with worsening economic conditions and a lack of basic services.

Masvingo Minister of State Ezra Chadzamira confirmed the ambitious project, stating, “By December this year, the project will have been completed.” While Chadzamira did not directly address concerns over the use of state funds, his comments underscore the scale and importance of the project in the region.

Rabson Mavhenyengwa, the Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chair, further elaborated on the grand plans for the new headquarters. “We will also have space to hold our inter-district meetings on top of the conference centre that will accommodate 10,000 people. This is a new era for Masvingo,” he said, highlighting the significance of the development.

The building of a conference centre with the capacity to hold 10,000 people is being touted as a key feature of the project, signaling the party’s ambitions to create a massive venue for political gatherings. The infrastructure is intended to serve not only as party offices but also as a space for large-scale events and meetings, further consolidating Zanu PF’s presence in the region.

Critics, however, are expressing concern over the priorities of the ruling party, especially at a time when the country is facing economic challenges. The funds being channeled into such an extravagant project are being seen by many as a glaring example of how public resources are being diverted to serve party interests rather than addressing the pressing needs of the Zimbabwean people.

“This is a clear misuse of state resources,” said one concerned local resident. “While ordinary citizens are struggling to make ends meet, the government is pouring money into building luxurious offices for a political party. This is not what the people need.”

As the project continues, the controversy over the use of state funds to build the Zanu PF offices in Masvingo is likely to intensify, with many questioning the government’s commitment to addressing the basic needs of the citizens it is meant to serve.

DIVIDED OPINIONS: Watson Munyaka’s Death Sparks Heated Debate – Was He a Victim or a Villain?

My Dead Uncle Watson Munyaka Wasn’t A Good Person

Watson Flexy Munyaka’s death has not only sent shockwaves across social media but has also left a sharply divided public questioning his legacy. As tributes pour in, so too do bitter accounts of the man’s conduct online, with some calling him a “vile” individual whose words left deep scars on many.

One of the strongest voices comes from Gugu Van De Musa, who did not mince words. “He was not a good person. Whoever says so is just lying. I won’t sugarcoat. Even though he didn’t deserve to die like that, my dead uncle was vile,” she wrote. Gugu’s frank remarks have ignited a broader conversation about Munyaka’s controversial online persona.

Her view resonates with others who described Munyaka as a ruthless troll who left many wounded with his cutting words. Frank Onismo Ziyambi added weight to this narrative, stating, “Those who were trolled here on Facebook know how much damage his trolls caused on them. Regai vataure. Watson’s words pierced the hearts of many like a spear.”

Yet, amid these harsh critiques, some have defended Munyaka. Nomathemba Primrose Ndebele pushed back against the backlash: “Watson Flexy Munyaka was good to me… End of story! Tell your narratives about him, we respect it! But don’t come on my post and tell me that my dead friend was evil… andinei nazvo.”

The comments reflect a deep polarization—while some mourn Munyaka as a friend and loyal ally, others view him as a man who left behind a trail of hurt, accusing him of bullying and harassment.

Farie Suegar, attempting a neutral tone, commented, “Such is life. We say condolences to the bereaved even if we are indifferent about his passing. Ndo nzira yedu tose.” However, others like Tatenda Malunga echoed Gugu’s sharp stance, stating, “He was not a good person.”

What’s emerging is a troubling portrait of a man who, to some, was loyal and kind but to many others, especially on social media, was seen as combative and toxic. The rift reflects a growing tension within online communities where public figures and followers of controversial leaders, such as Shepherd Bushiri and Uebert Angel (with whom Munyaka was associated), often find themselves at the center of storms.

As Munyaka’s sudden and violent death (reportedly involving him being thrown from a moving vehicle) continues to trend, Zimbabweans and beyond are left grappling with complex emotions—mourning a life lost while also unpacking uncomfortable truths about his digital footprint.

For now, one thing is clear: Watson Munyaka’s legacy will be debated for a long time, and perhaps, as Gugu Van De Musa’s comments suggest, not all stories about the dead are written in kindness.

Nurses Confront Mnangagwa Regime Over Poor Working Conditions

By A Correspondent

Nurses at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare staged a protest yesterday, temporarily halting operations in response to the worsening working conditions at the facility.

The demonstration, which saw dozens of healthcare workers waving placards, was sparked by critical shortages of essential medical supplies and poor maintenance that have left staff struggling to provide adequate care to patients.

The protesters highlighted several key issues plaguing the hospital, including inadequate medical equipment, malfunctioning elevators, and a lack of basic necessities like electricity and running water. In a particularly concerning statement, they revealed that snakes had been found in some of the wards, a consequence of poor maintenance and the hospital’s deteriorating infrastructure.

One nurse, speaking during the protest, emphasized the dire situation, saying, “We are working under very difficult conditions, with broken equipment and no running water. It’s a matter of life and death, and we can no longer work in these conditions.

We have to be heard.” Another nurse added, “The elevators are not working, patients have to be carried up the stairs, and we don’t have the basic medicines to treat them. It’s unacceptable.”

In response to the mounting protests, the Minister of Health, Dr. Douglas Mombeshora, intervened and met with the protesting healthcare workers. He acknowledged the severity of the issues raised but assured the nurses that the government was committed to improving the conditions at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital and other public health facilities across the country.

However, the protest has raised serious concerns about the state of Zimbabwe’s healthcare system, which has been deteriorating for years due to chronic underfunding, mismanagement, and a lack of basic resources. The nurses’ protest is a stark reminder of the everyday struggles faced by healthcare workers, who are often forced to work without the proper tools or environment to deliver quality care.

The situation at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital is not unique. Other public hospitals across the country have been grappling with similar challenges, including a shortage of medical personnel, inadequate supplies, and poor infrastructure.

As Zimbabwe’s healthcare system continues to deteriorate, nurses and doctors are becoming increasingly vocal in their demands for better working conditions and adequate resources to ensure the health and safety of both patients and healthcare workers.

For now, the protest has temporarily disrupted operations at one of the country’s busiest hospitals, but whether the government’s intervention will lead to real improvements remains to be seen. Nurses are clear in their demands: without substantial changes, the situation will only worsen, and the country’s healthcare system will continue to crumble under the weight of neglect and underinvestment.

More Woes For Couple Accused Of Defrauding Gideon Gono

By A Correspondent| The trial of Clark Clever Makoni and Beverly Aisha Ndonda Makoni, who face charges of defrauding former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Gideon Gono, of ZWL$137 million, took a significant turn on Friday when the court sanctioned the inclusion of an audit report as evidence.

Magistrate Stanford Mambanje rejected objections to audit’s admissibility.

The prosecution, led by Heather Muwokoto, formally presented the audit report to the court. The trial is now scheduled to resume on March 28th.

The core of the accusation revolves around the couple’s alleged manipulation of Valley Lodge’s ownership, purportedly transferring it into their names and subsequently misappropriating substantial funds from the company’s accounts.

During the preceding court session, Lindiwe Sabeka an internal auditor at Galwex Investments, owned by by Gono, provided crucial testimony, outlining the discrepancies uncovered during an internal audit of Valley Lodge.

These irregularities, as detailed by Sabeka, ultimately precipitated the Makonis’ arrest.

Admire Rubaya, the defence counsel, had previously challenged the audit report’s validity, citing concerns over its authorship and the absence of certification from a public auditor.

The prosecution’s case was, however, bolstered by corroborating testimony from additional witnesses.

Tonderai Karumbidza, a ZB Bank manager, testified that the Makonis had altered CR14 documents, falsely representing themselves as the new proprietors of Valley Lodge, situated in Mutare.

Karumbidza described the process by which the couple became authorised signatories on the company’s account, affirming that the bank adhered to its standard operational procedures.

He stated his initial interaction with the accused occurred in 2017 when they sought to modify the signatory details for the Valley Lodge account.

The bank, he explained, provided the necessary forms, including 14A and 14J6, which delineate the requirements for signatory authorization.

The Makonis submitted the requisite Know Your Customer (KYC) documents for processing, and Karumbidza, in his capacity as bank manager, approved their application.

He further added that he interacted with them frequently as they conducted transactions in their supposed capacity as directors.

Adding to the state’s case, Lindsay Musukutwa, Registrar of Companies within the Department of Deeds, Companies, and Intellectual Property, confirmed that the official records maintained by her department still designated the Omar Family as the lawful directors of the company, thereby contradicting the Makonis’ assertions.

Chivhayo In-Laws Lose US$75K Lavish Lobola Money To Armed Robbers

By Showbiz ReporterPolice have launched an investigation after a daring early-morning raid at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera, where a gang of up to 19 armed robbers made off with US$75,000 in cash—believed to be part of the lobola businessman Wicknell Chivayo recently paid for his wife, Lulu Muteke.

The robbers stormed the farm on Tuesday, overpowering security before fleeing with the substantial sum.

Authorities are yet to release further details on the incident, but sources indicate that the assailants meticulously planned the heist, targeting the high-profile family.

A Lobola Fit for Royalty

The stolen money was reportedly part of the extravagant lobola ceremony that Chivayo, known for his flamboyant lifestyle, hosted for his bride.

The businessman, famous for his ostentatious displays of wealth, spared no expense in securing Muteke’s hand in marriage.

His lobola proceedings made headlines after he allegedly paid a record-breaking amount, including luxury gifts, high-end vehicles, and large sums of cash.

Held in grand style, the ceremony drew the who’s who of Zimbabwe’s elite, with socialites, business moguls, and evengovernment officials in attendance.

Chivayo’s generosity reportedly extended beyond the traditional payments, as he showered his in-laws with lavish presents, solidifying his reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s most extravagant spenders.

The brazen robbery has sparked speculation about whether the criminals had insider knowledge of the significant cash transactions that took place at the farm.

More details to follow as the investigation unfolds.

Two Security Guards Fired For Escorting Chivhayo

By Showbiz Reporter- Two security guards were fired after they escorted Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo from a bank in Central Harare.

Chivhayo had been mobbed by scores of people at the bank on Monday, hoping he would hand out cash.

Chivayo, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and public cash giveaways, was spotted entering the bank, drawing a large crowd.

As he exited through the back entrance and made his way to his car, dozens of people surrounded him, either hoping for money or simply excited to see him.

The incident led to the dismissal of two security guards employed by Safeguard after they were seen escorting Chivayo to his vehicle.

The guards, identified as Gunner Chitsatsva and a colleague known only as Zvirawa, were accused of acting unprofessionally by appearing to provide security to the businessman.

Safeguard manager, identified only as Gwatidzo, confirmed their dismissal, stating that their actions misrepresented the company.

“As a company, we do not have a contract with Chivayo, and the two had no right to offer him security when they were supposed to be manning the premises,” said Gwatidzo. “The video circulating on social media did not reflect well on our organization since they were in uniform. Kana mukariwonawo video racho, vashandi vedu vakangavakatoti kwati kwati vachidzivirira vaChivayo.”

One of the dismissed guards’ wives expressed frustration over the decision, alleging that social media comments influenced her husband’s punishment.

“Someone assumed my husband received money from Sir Wicknell Chivayo, but he got nothing. They were only trying to manage the crowd and prevent people from pushing towards Chivayo while he was withdrawing his money,” she told H-Metro. “Now he has lost his job, and our children are suffering.”

Attempts to reach the dismissed guards for comment were unsuccessful.

Watson Flexy Munyaka, Follower of Shepherd Bushiri and Uebert Angel, Dies Amid Controversy

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | Watson Flexy Munyaka, a known follower of controversial clerics Shepherd Bushiri and Uebert Angel, has tragically died under circumstances that are sparking heated debate on social media.

Munyaka’s passing comes in the wake of a tense online confrontation with socialite Patience Mangezi, who shared a series of exchanges (attached) that indicate Munyaka had made unsettling statements, some hinting at threats and an expectation of conflict.

“He was threatening me that day, and things spiraled until people were asking, is this even about asking, ‘Where is Mutsa?’ It became a much bigger issue,” Mangezi recounted. According to her, the saga started when she commented on a post involving Maynard Manyowa, the official spokesman for Shepherd Bushiri, inquiring about Mutsa, believed to be one of Manyowa’s wives.

“This was about Maynard’s wives. Remember, he has many. I asked a simple question, ‘Where is Mutsa?’ Then Watson Munyaka came at me aggressively, questioning me and eventually threatening to come looking for me,” Mangezi explained.

She further claims that Manyowa joined the fray, admonishing her for probing into his family matters before allegedly launching a tirade of insults.

The incident has peeled back a wider history of online hostilities involving Munyaka, Manyowa, and their circles, who have, according to Mangezi, “stepped on a lot of toes” much like their spiritual leaders, Bushiri and Angel.

Shepherd Bushiri and Uebert Angel, who have long been dogged by controversy, are currently embroiled in legal and political battles in Malawi. Angel recently made headlines after threatening the Malawian president with electoral defeat should the government fail to honor Bushiri. Meanwhile, Bushiri faces extradition to South Africa over serious criminal allegations, implicating both himself and Angel.

The ripple effect of these controversies appears to extend to their followers. “Just like their spiritual fathers, Maynard and Watson have been stirring up trouble for years,” Mangezi added.

Adding fuel to the fire, Uebert Angel remains under scrutiny in Zimbabwe following his appearance in the explosive Gold Mafia documentary, where he brazenly claimed to be the second most powerful person in the country.

Watson Munyaka’s death—reportedly linked to a violent incident involving him being thrown from a moving vehicle, according to other social media posts—has further stoked debate on the influence and actions of the so-called “spiritual sons” of Bushiri and Angel.

Authorities are yet to confirm details surrounding Munyaka’s death. However, the incident has prompted wider reflection on the toxic dynamics of social media confrontations and the dangerous power plays within these prophetic circles.

Mnangagwa Regime Expresses Desire To Punish Blessed Mhlanga

By A Correspondent

Ziyambi Ziyambi, a member of the ZANU PF Politburo and Minister of Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, has sharply criticized journalist Blessed Mhlanga of Heart & Soul Television (HSTV) and Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) for allegedly using social media platforms to incite violence.

At a Special Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting in Chinhoyi, Ziyambi made it clear that the government would not tolerate such actions, warning that the law would take “decisive action” against those spreading violent or provocative messages. He stated:

“It is irresponsible for any journalist to foster panic and uncertainty.”

He further emphasized the seriousness of the issue, asserting that:

“The law will act decisively against the broadcasting of incitement and violent messages. This kind of behaviour is not only dangerous but also poses a threat to our nation’s stability and economic progress.”

Ziyambi also declared that no nation would accept calls for violent uprisings against its leadership, reinforcing the government’s stance against such actions.

Mhlanga was arrested on February 24, 2025, after he voluntarily turned himself in to the police. His arrest came after allegations that he had incited public violence through his broadcasts on HSTV, which included interviews with political figures critical of the government. Among those interviewed was Blessed Geza, a war veteran known for his outspoken criticism of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mhlanga is facing charges under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly transmitting messages intended to provoke violence or harm property. Although his lawyer sought to challenge the evidence and secure bail, the High Court indefinitely postponed his bail hearing, leaving him in custody at Harare Remand Prison.

Mutsvangwa Went To War As A Bachelor And Returned With A Beautiful Wife

Chris Mutsvangwa in 1979 with his wife, Monica

People who dressed like this in the rear in Maputo played a huge part in organising the war effort logistically, ideologically and strategically, among them broadcasters like Charles Ndlovu (now Webster Shamu), singers like Dixon Chingaira (Cde Chinx) typists and others that include Christopher Mutsvangwa, pictured here in 1979. Cde Oppah Muchinguri as well, although she also did war front duties.

Cde Mutsvangwa is one of the few people who went to war as a bachelor and had the luxury to come back home with a beautiful wife.

Many Cdes left wives and girlfriends behind and came back to find them.either killed in the war or married.

Whatever roles Cde Mutsvangwa and Monica his wife played in Maputo during the war must be celebrated as heroic.

However Cde Mutsvangwa must not self appoint himself as the Chief Appraiser of individual war efforts of others, especially those that actually bore the pain and suffering at the war front. That’s very disrespectful to say the least.

It is insulting. He attacked the late Rex Nhongo (Gen Mujuru) and the late Robert Mugabe in 2020, and now he is attackinc General Chiwenga, belittling them as meaningless nobodies to the war effort, and vaingloriously so.- Comment by Reason Wafawarova

Zanu PF Aims To Snatch Glen View South Parliamentary Seat

By A Correspondent

As the April 12 National Assembly by-election for Glen View South approaches, ZANU PF candidate Tsitsi Tawomhera has come under scrutiny amid reports of vote buying and voter intimidation tactics being employed by the party. Tawomhera, a 37-year-old national executive member of the ZANU PF Youth League, won the primary elections last Sunday to secure the party’s nomination for the by-election, following the death of local legislator Grandmore Hakata of the opposition CCC in January.

While ZANU PF has struggled to win the constituency in recent years, the party is now making aggressive moves to reclaim the seat, which has been largely controlled by the opposition for two decades.

Tawomhera, confident of her chances, declared that she would run a “vigorous campaign,” claiming that the opposition had failed to serve the people of Glen View South. She stated:

“For a long time, the opposition has been dominant in Glen View South, but they have failed to deliver. The Members of Parliament we have had over the years did not report back to the people; they remained silent while we faced numerous challenges like cholera outbreaks, poor roads, and a lack of development.”

However, reports from local voters and opposition figures suggest a more troubling side to the ZANU PF campaign. Allegations of vote buying have surfaced, with claims that party supporters are being offered money, food, and promises of development in exchange for votes. Additionally, there are reports of ZANU PF officials intimidating voters, pressuring them to support Tawomhera or face repercussions.

In one instance, a local resident, speaking anonymously, revealed:

“We are being pressured to attend ZANU PF rallies, and if you don’t show up, people start talking about your loyalty to the party. Some are even offering cash to people who say they will vote for them. It’s becoming very clear that the election isn’t just about ideas, it’s about who can pay the most and intimidate the hardest.”

The opposition has condemned these tactics, claiming that they undermine the democratic process. As the election date draws closer, the issue of vote buying and voter intimidation looms large over the by-election, raising questions about the integrity of the race and the fairness of the competition.

Social Media in Shock as Watson Flexy Munyaka Dies Days After Posting Cryptic Message

Harare, 18 March 2025 By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | Social media platforms are abuzz with shock and speculation following reports of the death of popular online personality Watson Flexy Munyaka, just two days after he posted a cryptic message on his verified Facebook account, hinting at his aversion to crowds and suggesting that people would only gather for him after his passing.

Munyaka, known for his humorous and candid social media posts, wrote:
“Have I ever told you why I have never given anyone the chance yekundiitira birthday? The same reason why I can never have a wedding. I can’t be at the centre of anything; crowds (7 people or more) annoy me. Muchazongondiunganira chete ndafa coz it won’t be in my power… but ndogona kumuka ndikakurovai zvisingaita,” followed by laughing emojis.

The message, initially taken lightly by his followers, has now taken a dark and ominous tone after news of his sudden death began circulating online.

Though official confirmation is yet to be released by authorities or Munyaka’s family, thousands of social media users have flooded timelines expressing disbelief, grief, and unease over the timing of his passing in relation to his chilling post.

The trending discussion has sparked debates about the deeper meanings behind Munyaka’s words and whether he may have sensed or been aware of an impending tragedy.

Screenshots showing his post alongside an image of over 500 pending friend requests have also gone viral, adding to the eerie atmosphere surrounding the incident.

Many users have described Munyaka’s words as a “premonition,” while others are calling for more information about the circumstances surrounding his death.

If confirmed, his passing will mark a tragic end to a social media figure known for blending humor with personal reflections.

This is a developing story.

Rwanda Cuts Diplomatic Ties with Belgium

Kigali, 17 March 2025

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | The Government of Rwanda has announced the immediate severance of all diplomatic relations with Belgium, citing what it described as Belgium’s “pitiful attempts to sustain its neocolonial delusions.”

The announcement was made via an official statement from Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, accusing Belgium of consistently undermining Rwanda’s sovereignty and security interests, particularly in relation to the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“Belgium has a deep and violent historical role, especially in acting against Rwanda,” the statement read, highlighting Belgium’s alleged interference in regional dynamics and its support for groups that Rwanda claims propagate genocide denial and destabilization in the Great Lakes region.

The Rwandan government claims that Belgium has “clearly taken sides” in the regional conflict and has “systematically mobilized against Rwanda in different forums,” using what Kigali describes as lies and manipulation aimed at creating hostility toward Rwanda on the international stage.

Rwanda also invoked Belgium’s colonial legacy, blaming it for fueling the ethnic divisions that culminated in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The government further accused Belgium of allowing its territory to serve as a base for groups allegedly sustaining genocidal ideology.

The decision, which Kigali says reflects its commitment to safeguarding “national interests and the dignity of Rwandans,” comes amid heightened tensions between Rwanda and international actors over the DRC conflict and accusations of regional interference.

All Belgian diplomats in Rwanda have been given 48 hours to leave the country. Kigali has, however, pledged to comply with the Vienna Convention by ensuring the protection of Belgian diplomatic premises and property in Rwanda.

The move is expected to further strain Rwanda’s relations with Western nations and could have significant ramifications for regional diplomacy and security.

Belgium had not commented at the time of writing.

War Vets At Press Conference ‘Presenting Evidence’ Mnangagwa Vacated State House

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | President Emmerson Mnangagwa has vacated state house.

A press conference by war veterans’ leadership in Bulawayo concluded with the announcement that ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa officially abandoned state house duties a long time ago.

When President Mnangagwa on 12 March 2022 left State House and travelled to Chiweshe to install a convicted armed robber to the judicial chief position, he officially abandoned the duties of a president and became an armed robber accomplice, the ZIPRA war veterans association’s spokesman Baster Magwizi announced. Speaking during the second segment of a disrupted press conference, Magwizi said, When you left State House to go install armed robbers onto chieftainships, you abandoned State House and left the country with no president, so may you go well.

Magwizi also cited another incident where President spent 10 years since 2015 sponsoring an armed robber suspect, who is a fake inventor, Maxwell Chikumbutso to scam western investors USD125,000.

lMagwizi declared that “Zimbabwe no longer has a president,” claiming the current head of state “vacated State House a long time ago.” Speaking alongside Andrease Mathibela, the Chairman of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA), the two war veterans’ leaders called for what they termed a “national revolution” to address what they describe as the country’s deepening governance crisis.

The two addressed a heated joint press conference in Bulawayo on Monday, which was initially disrupted by security forces..

Magwizi: ‘The president is absent, governance is dead’

Magwizi’s statement was both defiant and accusatory, directly blaming President Emmerson Mnangagwa for enabling corruption, looting, and allegedly facilitating international scams.

“Our leader, the President, has been doing deals with convicted robbers and scammers,” Magwizi charged, alleging that the president played a key role in a scam that defrauded investors of over $125,000. “A whole President spending nine years assisting armed robbers scam the world suggests money laundering and financing of terrorism,” Magwizi said.

Calling on Mnangagwa to “restore his integrity within 72 hours,” Magwizi demanded that the president refund investors and distance himself from what he termed a “cryptocracy” running Zimbabwe into the ground. He warned that failure to do so would result in veterans mobilizing all “comrades” nationwide to take further action.

When asked if declaring the country leaderless was excessive, Magwizi stood firm, saying: “The country is ungovernable. It is now led by a cryptocracy, corrupt to the bone marrow. The governance is dead.”

Mathibela: ‘The center of power is the source of the crisis’

Echoing these sentiments, ZNLWVA Chairman Andrease Mathibela laid the blame squarely on the government. “By no means is this a poor country,” Mathibela said, “but the source of the problem is the center of power.”

Mathibela lamented the entrenchment of corruption, nepotism, and the emergence of dynastic politics, accusing leaders of “amassing wealth at the expense of ordinary citizens.” He revealed that various veterans’ groups had written to the Joint Operations Command (JOC) demanding accountability and respect for citizens’ rights to peaceful protest.

Mathibela also announced a mass demonstration scheduled for March 31, where Zimbabweans will be called to the streets to “peacefully show they have had enough of misgovernance.”

Rising tensions ahead of March 31.

The war veterans’ statements mark one of the strongest public denunciations of Mnangagwa’s administration from liberation war figures, traditionally seen as pillars of Zimbabwe’s ruling establishment. The accusations come amid rising public frustration over economic hardship, endemic corruption, and a weakening local currency.

Magwizi described Zimbabwe as being “in time only” and accused the government of perpetuating “structural violence,” with poverty, joblessness, and industry collapse causing widespread suffering.

“We are really in abject poverty in Zimbabwe,” Magwizi said. “The welfare of Zimbabwe is taken away, and people are poor.”

The veterans’ statements have set the stage for a potentially volatile confrontation with state authorities.

It remains to be seen how the government will respond to this direct challenge from former freedom fighters, who once played a key role in the country’s liberation struggle.

Trump Shuts Down Studio 7

By Staff Reporter-US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to cut funding to the federally funded news organization Voice of America (VOA), accusing it of being “anti-Trump” and “radical.”

VOA operates Studio 7, the US-based Zimbabwean news service, which has been broadcasting from Washington, D.C., since 2003.

Studio 7 was established to provide independent and critical news coverage for Zimbabweans, countering the dominance of state-controlled media, which has long been used as a propaganda tool by the Zimbabwean government.

Since its inception, Studio 7 has filled a critical gap in Zimbabwe’s media landscape, offering alternative perspectives on political developments, governance, human rights, and socio-economic challenges.

In a country where press freedom has been severely restricted, Studio 7 has served as an essential platform for voices that are often suppressed in state media.

Over the years, the station has provided in-depth reporting on election rigging, human rights violations, corruption, and the deteriorating economic situation, giving Zimbabweans access to information that the government often censors.

At least 1 million Zimbabweans tune in to Studio 7’s daily bulletins, primarily broadcast through shortwave radio, a medium widely used due to its ability to reach remote areas beyond government-controlled frequencies.

Recognizing the changing media consumption habits, Studio 7 has also expanded its reach by packaging its news bulletins on WhatsApp, ensuring timely distribution to listener groups and diaspora communities seeking credible information about their home country.

A White House statement explained that the executive order aims to “ensure taxpayers are no longer footing the bill for radical propaganda.” It included quotes from politicians and right-wing media critics who have accused VOA of biased reporting.
VOA, originally established during World War II to counter Nazi propaganda, has since grown into an influential global broadcaster, reaching hundreds of millions of people worldwide each week. However, Trump’s directive significantly weakens its operations.
Mike Abramowitz, VOA’s director, revealed that he and nearly all of the network’s 1,300 staff members have been placed on paid leave. He expressed concern that the order would severely impact VOA’s ability to fulfill its “vital mission,” particularly at a time when authoritarian regimes such as those in Iran, China, and Russia are investing heavily in state-sponsored disinformation campaigns.
The National Press Club, a leading representative group for US journalists, condemned the move, stating:
“If an entire newsroom can be sidelined overnight, what does that say about the state of press freedom? An entire institution is being dismantled piece by piece. This isn’t just a staffing decision – it’s a fundamental shift that endangers the future of independent journalism at VOA.”
The president’s order specifically targets VOA’s parent company, the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which also funds organizations such as Radio Free Europe and Radio Free Asia—services originally set up to counter communism. The directive instructs managers to “reduce performance to the minimum presence and function required by law.”

For Zimbabweans, the potential loss of Studio 7 means the erosion of a vital news source that has played an indispensable role in keeping citizens informed and holding the government accountable.

With state media continuing to serve the interests of the ruling elite, the closure of Studio 7 would leave a significant void in the fight for press freedom and democratic discourse in Zimbabwe.

Slay-Harare CEO Loses US$100K To Sangoma

Rangarirai Fariro Chrystal Mushonga

By Crime and Courts Reporter- A stylish female Harare business executive has lost US$100,000 to a self-styled spiritual healer in a “get-rich-quick” scam, a Harare court heard over the weekend.

The victim, Rangarirai Fariro Chrystal Mushonga, who heads Property Handle Africa, was allegedly duped by Modesta Simakani of Kadoma after being introduced to her by her sister-in-law in 2022.

According to the State, Simakani presented herself as a powerful sangoma and convinced Mushonga that she was under the influence of a spirit preventing her from accumulating wealth.

She allegedly persuaded Mushonga to hand over her earnings for “spiritual cleansing,” promising that this would unlock financial success.

Between September 2022 and January 2024, Mushonga reportedly transferred a total of US$100,000 through Mukuru Mobile Money Transfer, Innbucks, and EcoCash.

However, when Mushonga later tried to recover her “cleansed” money, Simakani became evasive and eventually unreachable.

Realizing she had been scammed, Mushonga reported the matter to the police.

No recoveries have been made so far.

Mathibela also announced a mass demonstration scheduled for March 20, where Zimbabweans will be called to the streets to “peacefully show they have had enough of misgovernance.”

Rising tensions ahead of March 20

CAPS United Bury Sugar Boys

By A Correspondent

CAPS United secured their first victory of the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, defeating Triangle United 2-0 on Sunday. After a sluggish start to the campaign, with a 1-1 draw against Green Fuel and a 2-0 loss to Scotland FC, the Green Machine finally found their rhythm.

Juan Mutudza proved to be the hero, scoring a crucial brace in the first half. He netted the opener in the 15th minute and doubled the lead just 11 minutes later, sealing the win for the visitors.

The loss further compounded Triangle United’s woes, as the Sugar Boys remain winless and pointless after three games. In contrast, CAPS United’s triumph injects momentum into their season, and they will look to build upon this result in their upcoming matches.

Atletico de Madrid Pay Price For Sitting Back Against Barcelona

By A Correspondent

In a thrilling Spanish title race showdown, Barcelona staged a stunning comeback to defeat Atletico Madrid 4-2 on Sunday. The Catalans trailed 2-0 but fought back to claim victory, with Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres scoring in stoppage time.

Barcelona’s win propelled them back to the top of the table, level on 60 points with Real Madrid, who had briefly taken the lead after beating Villarreal on Saturday. Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, trail the top two by four points after a devastating week that saw them eliminated from the Champions League.

The match saw Atletico take an early lead through Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth, but Barcelona responded with goals from Robert Lewandowski and Torres. The visitors then seized control in stoppage time, with Yamal and Torres sealing the win.

Barcelona’s comeback victory extended their unbeaten streak to 18 matches across all competitions, demonstrating their resilience and determination in the pursuit of the Spanish title.

Speed Kills: The Devastating Impact of Reckless Driving

Alarm As Ziyambi Ziyambi Reveals Mnangagwa Is Keen To Punish Journalist Blessed Mhlanga

Mnangagwa Son Sidelines Chiwenga Allies, Donates Cement To Masvingo Clinic Construction Project

By A Correspondent

In a move that seems to reinforce his family’s influence within the political landscape, Major Sean Mnangagwa, the son of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, made a significant contribution to the construction of Zishumbe clinic in Masvingo North Constituency. His donation of 100 bags of cement has raised eyebrows, with political insiders suggesting it may also be a strategic maneuver to assert his father’s authority amid rising political tensions within the ruling Zanu PF party.

Speaking at the weekend, Masvingo North Constituency Member of Parliament Brian Mudumi expressed gratitude for the donation, which is expected to significantly aid in the completion of the clinic, a vital project for the community.

“We are truly grateful for Major Sean Mnangagwa’s generous contribution of 100 bags of cement towards the construction of Zishumbe clinic,” Mudumi said.

“This donation will undoubtedly play a significant role in the completion of the clinic, which will provide essential healthcare services to the people of Masvingo North.”

The clinic construction, a crucial development for the area, is part of ongoing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure in rural Zimbabwe.

However, the timing of the donation raises questions about underlying political motivations, particularly in light of the increasing rift between factions within Zanu PF.

A source within the ruling party hinted that Major Sean Mnangagwa’s charitable act could be part of a broader strategy to strengthen his father’s position amid growing political tensions. “It’s a calculated move meant to portray President Mnangagwa as a man of the people. The whole thing is meant to ease the heightening tension,” the source explained, suggesting that the donation was not just an act of goodwill but also a response to internal party rivalries.

With Zanu PF facing ongoing factional infighting, particularly between allies of President Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, the donation could be seen as a subtle way for the Mnangagwa family to assert its dominance, sidelining Chiwenga’s supporters in the process.

While the gesture has been positively received in Masvingo, the political ramifications are more complex, signaling the Mnangagwa family’s keen interest in shaping the narrative and maintaining influence within the party.

Nelson Chamisa Aides On the Run After Being Attacked by State Security Agents Over March 31 Protests

By A Correspondent

Two opposition activists aligned with Advocate Nelson Chamisa were attacked by State Security agents in Bulawayo on Saturday.

The activists, Arnold Batirai Dube and Takunda Madzana, are now on the run as they are being pursued by State Security agents in connection with the March 31 protests.

War veteran Blessed Geza had previously announced that protests against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s third-term agenda would take place at the end of the month.

In an interview with ZimEye.com on Monday, Batirai Dube shared his experience: “We are currently on the run. On Saturday, eight State Security agents assaulted me, punching and slapping me while demanding to know the whereabouts of Gift Ostallos Siziba. I told them I had no knowledge of his location.”

He continued, “They grabbed my phone and searched it, also punching me in the ribs. I somehow managed to escape. I am afraid to go home because I know they are looking for me.”

Madzana also expressed his fear, saying, “I am terrified for my life because government agents are searching for me. They are accusing me of organizing the March 31 protests.”

Blessed Mhlanga Spends 21 Days In Remand Prison

Blessed Mhlanga, a senior Zimbabwean journalist accused on transmitting data messages with the intention of inciting violence, has spent more than 20 days in detention, as determination of his freedom bid remains pending at the High Court.

The 44 year-old Mhlanga, who is represented by Chris Mhike of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, has spent 21 days in both police and prison detention after Zimbabwe Republic Police officers arrested him on 24 February 2025 and accused the senior journalist of acting unlawfully when he allegedly recorded a video of Blessed Runesu Geza and reportedly made it available to members of the public by transmitting and broadcasting it on YouTube, a social media and online video sharing platform and on Heart and Soul Broadcasting Services (HSTV), a digital content service provider and distributor, with the intention of inciting people to commit undisclosed acts of violence.

On 7 March 2025, Mhike filed an appeal at the High Court against Harare Magistrate Farai Gwitima’s decision to deny bail to the senior journalist. In the appeal, Mhike argued that Magistrate Gwitima grossly erred and misdirected himself by denying bail to Mhlanga on 28 February 2025 as there were no compelling reasons to justify his continued incarceration.

On 10 March 2025, High Court Judge Justice Gibson Mandaza began hearing Mhlanga’s bail appeal, where Fungai Nyahunzvi, a law officer inthe National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) made a shocking move of filing an application seeking referral of Mhlanga’s appeal to the High Court’s Anti-Corruption Court (ACC) from the regular Bail Court; and also sought a postponement of the matter pending the referral of the matter to the ACC.

In his application, Nyahunzvi argued that Mhlanga’s matter was placed in an ACC at Harare Magistrates Court and practice therefore dictates that the bail appeal in the High Court should be placed in the ACC Division of the High Court.

However, Mhike objected and opposed Nyahunzvi’s applications and argued that there is nothing corruption-related in the charge being faced by Mhlanga.

In his ruling, Justice Mandaza dismissed Nyahunzvi’s application and ruled that the ordinary Bail Court was competent to hear Mhlanga’s bail appeal.

Justice Mandaza then postponed hearing of the bail appeal to12 March 2025 to allow the NPA to file its response to Mhlanga’s bid for freedom.

On 12 March 2025, Justice Mandaza postponed hearing of Mhlanga’s bail appeal to allow himself to make a determination on the senior journalist’s request to be furnished with additional information such as the electronic and video evidence, which prosecutors claim incriminate Mhlanga in the commission of the offence of allegedly transmitting data messages inciting violence as defined in section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

On 17 March 2025, Justice Mandaza resumed hearing of Mhlanga’s bail appeal and first ruled that the High Court will not view the relevant video, which constitutes the basis of the state’s case against Mhlanga, because it is not part of the record of proceedings in the Harare Magistrates Court and indicated that he would be guided only by the content of what transpired in the lower court.

Afterwards, Mhike submitted arguments in support of Mhlanga’s bail appeal and asked the High Court to set free the senior journalist while Nyahunzvi opposed the appeal and insisted that the media practitioner should remain holed up in prison and stand trial from jail.

Justice Mandaza then reserved his judgment on Mhlanga’s bail appeal and indicated that he will advise all concerned parties in the matter when his verdict would be ready.

Zimbabwe Shall Be A Nation Of Abundance: Nelson Chamisa

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwe’s opposition leader, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, has shared a bold and optimistic vision for the future of the country, declaring that Zimbabwe shall be a nation of abundance. In a passionate statement on Monday, Chamisa outlined a future where Zimbabwe thrives in every sector, from governance to agriculture, education, and tourism.

“The Great Things to Come… Zimbabwe shall be a nation of plenty. Zimbabwe shall be taken to another level, the next level of leadership excellence and government integrity,” Chamisa proclaimed. His words reflected a deep belief in Zimbabwe’s potential to achieve “phenomenal growth” and “unprecedented success” under the right leadership—leadership that he emphasized must respect and value people through a foundation rooted in the love and fear of God.

Chamisa’s statement painted a picture of Zimbabwe as a nation known for “good governance, exemplary fantastic policies, values, rights, and the rule of law.” He continued, “We will set an example in everything,” signaling his commitment to a future where Zimbabwe is a global leader in these areas.

He went further to outline specific sectors that he believes will flourish under his vision. Chamisa spoke passionately about Zimbabwe’s infrastructure development, asserting, “Zimbabwe shall have first-class infrastructure. We will be in the world class of Europe, Japan, China, and the US in infrastructure standards.”

The opposition leader also highlighted the importance of education, declaring, “We shall be renowned for excellence in education. We shall be a global learning center and model world education hub.” This vision extended to social welfare, with Chamisa emphasizing the need for a country that takes care of its pensioners, elderly, and war veterans with robust social safety nets, describing Zimbabwe as a “nation of politeness and care.”

Agriculture was another key focus, with Chamisa forecasting a strong future for Zimbabwe in this sector. “

Zanu PF Launches Glen View South By-election Campaign Amid Intimidation, Vote Buying

Judge Dismisses Blessed Mhlanga’s Application for Particulars

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | High Court judge Gibson Mandaza has dismissed an application AMH journalist Blessed Mhlanga who was seeking further particulars from the state to argue his bail appeal.

Mhlanga is accused on publishing videos containing inciting messages following a press conference with Blessed Geza, a war veteran and Zanu PF member who is demanding the resignation of president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Through his lawyer Chris Mhike, Mhlanga asked the state to avail video graphics of the alleged press conference arguing that what was uttered in the videos was different from what was on the request for remand papers.

In coming up with his ruling Mandaza said his court can only interfere where there is a misdirection by the lower court.

“In my view for the the requested video to played in thus court may be inappropriate and this can be done during trial.

“In appeals of this nature, it is the findings of the court aquo which must be attached,” Mandaza said.

He said the High Court should confine itself with the laws.

“Allowing this court to view the videos is tantamount to making this court make a decision which should come out at trial.

“I therefore conclude that the application by the defense fails,”he said.

Bail hearing now on.

Cop Takes Own Life After Betting Loss

By Crime and Courts Reporter- Gweru police officer who committed suicide last week did so after after losing borrowed money to betting.

Claude Jele downed an unidentified poison shortly after penning a suicide note.

The Aviator online game, developed by Spribe, is an online game that has gained popularity across the globe.

It is a social multiplayer game where players place bets on a plane that takes off and flies higher and higher.

A multiplier counter starts as soon as the plane sets off, beginning from 1x and incrementing as time goes on.

Although the plane flies indefinitely, it can still fly off at any time, and players must cash out their bets before that happens.

There is no telling when the plane will fly off.

This adds to the intrigue of placing an Aviator bet and cashing out at the right moment.

Sources told H-Metro Jele had lost US$3000, which he had borrowed, by the time he took his life.
“Officer vakakwereta mari ikanyudzwa nekandege.
“Zvavaremera kudzosa uye kuwana counseling kwakuzvitorera upenyu,” said the source.
In the suicidal letter, Jele wrote:
“Having survived all these 38 years, I have reached a point where I feel like it’s all the same being on this earth or leaving.
“So, please do not accuse anyone or anything, it’s my personal decision to end my life this way; reads part of the suicidal note.
He said his death would inflict severe pain and he asked for forgiveness from his family urging people to avoid making false allegations against his wife.
He said his suicide was because of his failures in life.

Chinamasa Wields Axe on Chiwenga

By Parliamentary Reporter– Zanu PF legal affairs secretary Patrick Chinamasa has been assigned to spearhead efforts to neutralize online dissent against Mnangagwa’s “ED2030” agenda as the party escalates its crackdown on digital activism, targeting individuals and groups using social media to challenge President Mnangagwa’s proposed continued rule.

Speaking at a Zanu PF meeting in Mutare over the weekend, Chinamasa reaffirmed the party’s commitment to Mnangagwa’s continued rule, declaring, “President Dr. ED Mnangagwa’s leadership has brought invaluable progress to our nation. We will not relent in our efforts to persuade him to accept our unanimous support for his tenure until 2030.”

However, Chinamasa also issued a stern warning to digital activists, vowing to unmask those who use anonymous accounts to criticize the government. “Ghost accounts cannot hide you; we have the means to identify perpetrators of malicious social media activity, and they will face consequences,” he warned.

Escalating the Digital Clampdown

Under the pretext of curbing misinformation and protecting national stability, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere has announced plans to introduce new regulations targeting online activities. Speaking at a Ministers Meet the Media event last week, Muswere described social media as a “double-edged sword” that, while enabling engagement, is also being “misused by activists and critics to undermine government interests.”

“Social media is not properly governed, and this has led to a situation where people are chasing shadows—shadows that have no meaning; shadows run by ghost accounts operated by individuals seeking to demonize their own country,”Muswere stated.

He also accused former journalists of transforming into “activists-for-hire,” using digital platforms to push political agendas without verification. He insisted that upcoming laws would ensure accountability and prevent social media from being weaponized against the state.

“Part of our responsibility as a ministry is to ensure that social media is governed effectively. We are preparing new legislation to regulate these platforms and hold users accountable,” he added.

Mnangagwa’s Deepening Authoritarianism

Since ousting Robert Mugabe in a military coup in 2017, Mnangagwa initially portrayed himself as a reformist leader. However, his administration has been defined by increasing authoritarianism, the suppression of independent media, and a crackdown on opposition voices. His government has repeatedly targeted activists, journalists, and opposition politicians under the guise of maintaining national security.

Legislation such as the Cyber and Data Protection Act (2021) has already been used to silence critics, with individuals arrested for social media posts deemed critical of the government. Human rights organizations have documented cases of abductions, arbitrary arrests, and judicial harassment of dissenting voices.

Power Struggle with Chiwenga Driving the Crackdown?

The latest crackdown on digital activism comes amid rising tensions between Mnangagwa and his deputy, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. While Mnangagwa’s faction pushes for his continued rule until 2030, Chiwenga’s camp has been quietly positioning itself for a leadership takeover.

Chiwenga, the former military general who played a decisive role in the 2017 coup, has long been seen as Mnangagwa’sbiggest political rival. His allies within the military and intelligence services remain powerful, and sources within Zanu PF suggest that the digital clampdown is partly aimed at weakening Chiwenga’s influence.

Social media platforms have become a battleground for political factions within the ruling party, with activists and whistleblowers leaking information that exposes corruption and internal disputes. Analysts argue that Mnangagwa’s new digital crackdown is not just about controlling opposition voices but also about preventing internal party rivals from using online platforms to undermine his leadership.

State-Controlled Media and Narrative Engineering

Muswere emphasized that Zimbabwe already has a structured governance system to ensure the public has access to “accurate information.” He urged journalists to rely solely on government sources, reinforcing Zanu PF’s efforts to monopolize information.

“The media has a critical role in nation-building, in terms of identifying any issues, negative or positive, that impact our Vision 2030. We urge journalists to be ethical, verify facts, and seek information from official government platforms,”Muswere stated.

Critics argue that these remarks reflect a broader agenda to erode press freedom and consolidate state control over media narratives. Zimbabwe ranks poorly on global press freedom indices, with state-controlled media dominating the landscape while independent journalists face increasing persecution.

Global Trends vs. Zimbabwe’s Digital Repression

The push to regulate social media aligns with global trends, as many countries have introduced cybersecurity laws. South Africa’s Cybercrimes Act addresses digital offences, the UK’s Computer Misuse Act (1990) governs online threats, and the US has the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and Communications Decency Act to regulate digital spaces.

However, Zimbabwe’s approach is viewed as more repressive, given its history of using such laws to silence opposition. The 2021 Data Protection Act was initially presented as a cybersecurity measure but has been weaponized to justify surveillance and targeting of critics. The proposed new laws signal yet another step toward deepening digital authoritarianism.

As Mnangagwa tightens his grip on power, digital spaces remain a critical front in Zimbabwe’s ongoing political struggle, with the government determined to control the narrative—both online and offline.
